Team Song (to the tune of Bon Jovi's it's my life):

This aint a song for those easily daunted
No silent prayer for those who are faulted
We aint gonna be just faces in the crowd
you're gonna see us play
when we smack you all down

Valkyries
It's now or never
Cause we aint gonna play forever
We just want to win before we die
(Valkyries)
Our game is simply never blase
We'd play Hell and  beat them our way
We just want to win before we die
Valkyries

We're gonna be the ones who stood their ground
With skill and guidence we'll never back down
Tomorrow's getting harder make no mistake
Luck ain't even lucky
Got to make your own breaks

Valkyries
It's now or never
Cause we aint gonna play forever
We just want to win before we die
(Valkyries)
Our game is simply never blase
We'd play Hell and  beat them our way
We just want to win before we die

The Valkyries would like to announce that due to unforseen circumstances, we will no longer be able to be located in or affiliated with the Vatican, and will be playing, from 2014 onwards, in a new home country. We apologise to our Vatican based fans,  to our players, families and staff.

More to come in following weeks.

For such a big decision, the board took longer deliberating the change of location than originally anticipated.

Working with our Norse based mythology, the Valkyries are officially relocating to Svalbard, which while technically recognising Norwegian sovereignty, is also classed as a nation. Svalbard is the most northerly permanently inhabited place on earth, and subsequently due to the extremely low temperatures  (average summer temperature of 4-6 degrees, average winter temperature -16 to -12) means that a permanent fully indoor 70 000 person stadium as well as training facilities will be constructed outside the University Centre in Svalbard.

Our major sponsor is now Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani (Store Norske) and the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry, whose sponsorship includes the payment of transportation for all Gold Member Valkyrie supporters to all games of their choice, an offer which allows us to be based in Svalbard, boosting the country's tourism. Tod's Shoes will remain a secondary sponsor of the team.

Despite our huge relocation as north as possible, the Valkyries with the support of the Svalbardians are still offering to play for the South in North V South championships if otherwise unorganisable.

Our new Number One Ticket Holder will be Jennifer Lawrence, because there's nobody famous from Svalbard, and she's awesome.

Cool facts about Svalbard- most northern inhabited place on earth
-Nearly completely crime free
-Has more polar bears than people
-Is the home of the Valkyries
-Has a global seedbank designed to survive a nuclear war.

From the Press Nov 22, 2011

Riccardo de Luca, from the Italian newspaper La Repubblica has a few questions from Ziplock.

1.Qual è il costo stimato della riqualificazione?

Translation:
1.What is the estimated cost of upgrading?
2. How do you propose to redevelop the Coliseum and retain much of the original brick work and fauna?
3. Have you gone mad? Turning to the Coliseum in an AFL stadium is an insult to the Italian people and their long, rich heritage

Response:
1. I'm not at liability to divulge that. The church, who is covering the costs of upgrading and rebuilding has asked me not to disclose this sensitive information.
2. We have on our team, some of the greatest architects from over four generations. They'll be dealing with the specifics, but, they're very confident that they pull this off, while at the same time maintaining the history of the Colosseum- wouldn't it be, if anything, a greater atrocity to have such an impressive monument being unused for it's original function- maybe we no longer have gladiator fights, as these have been overtaken by modern day sports. But we'll be damned if we don't at least try to pay homage to this great landmark.
3. Some people call it being a madman, personally I say it's closer to visionary. The Italian people are insulting their own rich heritage by leaving the Colosseum used purely as a tourist attraction, rather than in the spirit it was created for, by one of the greatest and most influential empires in history!

and more to the point, the Italian people insulted themselves by voting in Berlusconi, year in year out, until he ran their country in the ground. If they want a chance to fix their economy, without going into chronic and crippling debt, this is their only option. Embrace it.

Press Release, November 2, 2012
It is with great sadness and regret that the Valkyries inform the followers of the Euro league, that Israel Folau has retired from EXV. We thank him greatly for his 2 games of service at a senior level, and for his behind the scenes contributions.

You'll be missed Izzy.

Press Release November 22, 2012
The Valkyries would like to thank traded players Jack Riewoldt and Captain Marc Murphy for their services to the club. It's sad to see such talented players go, but the decision to see them depart was deemed to be in the best interest of the club. On a happier note, the Valkyries would like the install Callan Ward as the new Co-Captain along Adam Goodes, and to welcome the new players into our club- Caddy, Pittard, Adams and Lynch.

We wish you the best and hope that you can help lead the Valkyries to victory.

Old Information pre-location change

Stadium:

Here's where it gets interesting. The actual Vatican is incredibly restrictive towards visitors, for security reasons, so holding afl matches inside the city is impractical. We considered turfing up St. Peter's Square, but Pope Benedict was not happy about having an AFL stadium outside his window- after a lot of argument and negotiation, we have agreed to re-turf the square, but only use it for training purposes, and not after 8pm. Oh well, you win some and you lose some.

Our Training Ground (before it's turfed up)

(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d6/St_Peter's_Square,_Vatican_City_-_April_2007.jpg/800px-St_Peter's_Square,_Vatican_City_-_April_2007.jpg)
(Taken from google)

and finally, our stadium. We looked long and hard, considered the conversion of several pre-existing soccer stadiums in Italy, and even building our own.

But then we thought, hey, why build something new, that'll be run down in 50 years, when we can have something old, something gold and something that's stood for two millennia. So, with a bit of tricky adjustments, a little bit of widening and substantial lengthening, architectural feats in themselves, I present to you, the Vatican Valkyries Offical AFL stadium

The Colosseum was no easy task to acquire, but, it was all made possible with our number one ticket holder.

You know him. You either love him or hate him (depending on your religious views). Claimed by many to be God's own representative on earth, I present to you the Vatican Valkyries Number One Ticket Holder:

With the support of good old Benny, and subsequently the Catholic church, a Trillion dollar organisation, we were able to 'persuade' the Italian Government into handing over such a 'priceless' monument. With the economic situation Italy is in at the moment, they didn't really have any other option ;)

We filled in the old architectural ruins with dirt and turfed over it- to preserve as much of the history as possible: there are actually tunnels under the current Oval in order to access the ruins, still study or view them.

The Colosseum can still be accessed at a very reasonable price of 10 euros any day, for which you can not only see the Valkyries train, if you arrive at the opportune moment, but still walk around the ruin, and feel the true millennia old atmosphere.

Feel free to get on our level any time kids.

1. I'm not at liability to divulge that. The church, who is covering the costs of upgrading and rebuilding has asked me not to disclose this sensitive information.
2. We have on our team, some of the greatest architects from over four generations. They'll be dealing with the specifics, but, they're very confident that they pull this off, while at the same time maintaining the history of the Colosseum- wouldn't it be, if anything, a greater atrocity to have such an impressive monument being unused for it's original function- maybe we no longer have gladiator fights, as these have been overtaken by modern day sports. and more to the point, the Italian people insulted themselves by voting in Berlusconi, year in year out, until he ran their country in the ground. If they want a chance to fix their economy, without going into chronic and crippling debt, this is their only option. Embrace it.

Yeah, max capacity is a bit under 50k atm, but with our rebuilding, lengthening and widening, we're expecting to get a fully functional 100 000 seater in.

According to documents found dating back to 352AD, it could hold up to 87,000.

However due to the massive earthquake in 1349, where most of the outer south side was destroyed along with other sections, it has now been severely reduced to close to 50,000 people.

Maybe Zarts will redevelop it to its former glorious state?

Another question Zarts.

Currently the centre oval within the Colosseum is 87m long by 55m wide, how are you going to widen and lengthen it without destroying other buildings around the Colosseum?  ;)

Zippy, Try and get some Italian Sponsors so the Italians will come to your home games. My home ground Camp Nou can fit about 100k too.Sadly we have failed in our attempt to remodel to get it up around 106k seats but we are looking at trying again in the next few seasons.

I've recently been to the colleseum, and there are no buildings of significance within the immediate vicinity that would need to be demolished to get it to afl length. It may be on the small side for an afl field, at the worst case scenario, but will certainly fulfill the minimum requirements for length and width. We are already in discussions with the local government as to organise permanent traffic diversions, as there is one road that the collosseum will end up engulfing, but there seems to be little issue in that area.

Our restoration is intended to keep as close to original as possible- the goal is to make the difference between the new and the old collosseum sections impossible to spot with the naked eye.

Riccardo de Luca, from the Italian newspaper La Repubblica has a few questions from Ziplock.

1.Qual è il costo stimato della riqualificazione?
1.What is the estimated cost of upgrading?
2. How do you propose to redevelop the Coliseum and retain much of the original brick work and fauna?
3. Have you gone mad? Turning to the Coliseum in an AFL stadium is an insult to the Italian people and their long, rich heritage

Embrace it.

very witty Zip, enjoyed your answers alot.......actually made me laugh out loud (didn't want to use the token symbol)

Media release!

'Confident about the Valkyries current squad,

Def: J. Grimes, J Trengove, T. Armstrong, B. Jacobs
Mids: M. Murphy, J. Ziebell, Jack Trengove, A. Gaff
Rucks: B. Mcevoy
Fwd: A. Goodes, J. Riewoldt, JJ Kennedy, Christensen
Utility: C. Ward, T Hawkins
Interchange: C. Morton, J. Roughead, Veszpremi, Buntine

Emergency: Haynes, Bastinac

The team's coach Ziplock has unorthodoxly called for our paper to run a poll amongst the viewers, to get a general public opinion of where this new Euro team will be finishing in 2012, in a bid to attract more followers and supporters to the club.

The Valkyries are a team very much centred around a youth policy, but believe 2012 will still be a year in which they can make a true challenge as the leagues first premiers. '

Poll's up doges.

a little bit of age statistics for the lot of you :P

Vatican Valkyries:
Current fielded players average age by the end of 2012: 23.1
Current benched players average age by the end of 2012: 22.4
Overall Average age: 22.7

Fielded Backs average age: 22
Benched backs average age: 21.4
Backs average age: 21.7

Fielded midfield average age: 21.75
Benched midfield average age: 21.25
Midfield average age: 21.5

Fielded ruck age: 23
Benched rucks average age: 26
Rucks average age: 25

Fielded forward average age: 25.5
Bench forward average age: 23.3
Forwards average age: 24.57

Utilities average age: 23

As you can see, I've got a reasonably balanced team age wise, with my averages being slightly distorted by my two players considerably older than the rest of my list (goodes and stephenson), with them removed my overall average age drops down to 22 :P

The Valkyries were sorry to let Morton go, but felt it was for the best. The Vatican is our country, and it's populace were very disappointed with Cale's promiscuity and love of chocolates, subsequently figured that it would be best to move him out to the Basher's, where his sex mania, and fattening obsession will be welcome :)
Title: Re: EuroXV: Vatican Valkyries

Due to the clear superiority in coaching staff at the Bashers since arriving in Belgium Cale has accepted a diet and weight control program and has got himself a girlfriend and has stopped his wandering sexual exploits.
This again shows how superior the Bashers are to theory rivals the valkyries...
Well Done Cale!!

We received inside intel that Cale's girlfriend is in fact, a male prostitute.

And we also received photos from his neighbour, clearly showing 100kg of chocolate being delivered his front door, in order to eat away the depression of having to move to belgium.

So make what you will of the Basher's 'superior' coaching staff

I think the Bashers speak for the general public when we say we want evidence. We don't believe anything until we see it.
The Belgian Bashers will also not be getting involved in any more trash talk until closer to rivalry round.
Thanks, the Belgian Bashers. :)

With the additions of Hanley to our backline, the Valkyries are looking like a force to be reckoned with

Def: J. Grimes, P. Hanley, J Trengove, T. Armstrong (Jacobs, Connors, toy, Bews)
Mids: M. Murphy, J. Ziebell, Jack Trengove, A. Gaff (Bastinac, Haynes, Ward, Bewick,  K Stevens, D Butcher)
Rucks: B. Mcevoy (J Roughead, stephensen)
Fwd: A. Goodes, J. Riewoldt, Christensen, Hawkins (Vespremi, Grant,  Gumbleton, Dell'Olio, Folau)
Utility: Ward, Bastinac

are you scared?

that's a team that potentially would not have a player under a 90 average.

And with the design and creation of the Valkyries new guernsey, we would like to be making a social justice announcement.

The Valkyries have decided that the most important thing in life, isn't just winning premierships (although we will be doing a lot of that), so after approaching a very important organisation, the Valkyries have thrown in their support behind the National Breast Cancer Foundation, to support pink ribbon day, and in fact fight against cancer all year round.

We do this by giving a full 20% of our profits to the cancer council to help fund research, while we raise awareness through our newly released guernsey, with a design to demonstrate our support.

Backfired on me this week, traded redden for BLOODY CORDY WHEN I KNEW HE WOULD GET RED VESTED!! Bad trade to avoid a zero when I was playing a league match i never stood a chance of winning. Heavy trading this week.

Horror round of injuries striking the Valkyries.

With several players entering the season already injured, such as Dick, Gumbleton, Armstrong, our depth was cut quite short.

Goodes and Mcevoy out with LTIs hurt, but hurting almost equally are Christensen and Veszpremi's injuries, leaving our forward line incredibly depleted, along with number two ruck Roughead also going down.

so for round 8, with only 4 fit forward, the key phrase is

'Stand up Folau'

show the competition why you were recruited. Dominate for your club, or be dominated.

The followers of this sport don't expect much- just 3 votes for BOG and a bag of goals to boot.

Still over 6 months out from the opening of the Euro's 15 transfer window there are numerous whispers that Valkyrie Andrew Gaff is seeking a switch to the Bashers in which his very good mate 'elephants' owns.
It is also highly likely that Pearce Hanley will attract interest due to his Belgian/Irish background...

;D

unfortunately, the valkyries have been rocked by injury once again, this time with captain Marc Murphy going down for months.

we're looking forward to 2013, considering we've copped injuries to goodes, mcevoy, christensen, murphy as well as 2nd ruckman roughead.

with murphy out for up to three months it's really left a void in the best and fairest, just waiting to be filled... with defenders Jack Grimes and Pearce Hanley stepping up in an attempt to claim the inaugrual award.

Our future leader Gaff is quite adament that he is very happy to stay part of the Valkyries and help, in the future, lead out club to many victories.

There are very few players that the valkyries see as being able to measure up with Hanley and Gaffs potential and current output.

In the defender line we'd probably only be even considering heppell/ deledio and for the midfield probably only rockliff/ pendles :P

The boys are quite happy where they are currently :P

Injury List:
Marc Murphy
Ziebell
Mcevoy
Goodes
Christensen
Hawkins
Gumbleton
Folau

Ziebell should be right this week, the rest of them though... the first 6 are all easily in our best 15, as well as our fringe players and cover such as Dick and Grant who are coming back from injury, and need time to find form.

but that's a pretty mammoth injury list- 5/ 10 forwards injured, one rookie listed, 2 returning from injury... leaving me with only 2 fit fowards. Our 1-3 draft picks all out with LTIs doesn't help.

we're just... so injury riddled lol.

Really? God I hope these late changes don't muck the team up by much. Can't flirt with players form and by the look of it they may need all the % they can get
Geelong Cats ‏@CatsInsider
"Allen Christensen has also been stretchered off the ground after a collision. Will have more details when they come to hand. #VFL"

"Christensen head injury. Taken off on stretcher. Neck brace on."

Looks like Allen's return to the euros will be delayed even further. Best of luck to him.

VATICAN CTIY  VALKYRIES

17.16 118

Lost to

SERBIAN EAGLES

18.13 121

our first block buster with the eagles resulted in a yet another disappointing loss. The Valkyries don't like to cast blame or make excuses, but if we were, we would point very specifically to our extensive injury list.

3 votes go to Jack Riewoldt with another stellar performace
2 to Jack Grimes for holding up a backline that was caving under pressure
1 to Captain Ward, for yet another solid performance.

The Valkyries would like to congradulate Jack Grimes for pulling equal in our best and fairest voting, along a sidelined Marc Murphy, and Pearce Hanley on 8 votes. With 6 players over 5 votes currently, it's looking like a  tough honour to take out this season

Bad luck Zip we have both been hit hard with injuries this year and this match doesn't show how good our teams really are. When it was down to Cloke to ton up i was a little nervous but he came through for once.

Its the start of what should be a tough battle between our teams for hopefully years to come. But next year it will be 1v2 not 13v 14

It will be better when we have fully fit squads

I... don't have a forward line atm...

as evidenced by my forward line scores of
Riewoldt- 147
Veszpremi- 49
Bewick- (33/2)- 17
Armstrong- (31/2)- 16

seriously though
round 1- Murphy- LTI
round 2- mcevoy- LTI
round 3- goodes- LTI

my highest remaining draft picks are round 4- Grimes, Round 5- Trengove, Round 6- Riewoldt.

and until recently, grimes was the only one willing to raise the bat :P

I love it how grimes is the guy who survives injury. I havent had as many high profile outs as you but i have had a few guys really under perfoming

round 1 gibbs- lost DPP and drops average 20 points, cloke drops average nearly 20 points
round 2 mummy- out most of the season, nearly killed me this week
round 3 priddis - injured and under producing
round 4 cotchin - is a star
round 5 lecras - LTI

whats hurt me the most is guys like schnieder and knights being on the cusp of selection not to mention Swallow being out and Shuey getting suspended on my most important week.

the good news is your guys should be back for our next game.

Surprisingly, leading the Valkyries best and fairest are two of our star defenders Hanley and Grimes! Their relative experience compared to the rest of our young team has given them quite an edge in this club accolade. Both of them have been named in the BOG an impressive 6 times out of 14 rounds, equal with 3rd place Ward, while 4th Marc Murphy, remains in the running on 8 votes, if he can return from injury soon.

And, for the first time in a long time, the valkyries have close to a full squad named this week
italics for emergency
Def: J. Grimes, P. Hanley, J Trengove, T. Armstrong. (Jacobs, Connors, Frost, Toy, Bews, Laird[/s])
Mids: M. Murphy, J. Ziebell, Jack Trengove, A. Gaff (Haynes, Bewick,  K Stevens, D Butcher)
Rucks: B. Mcevoy (J Roughead, Stephensen, Dowdell)
Fwd: A. Goodes, J. Riewoldt, Christensen, Hawkins (Vespremi, Grant,  Gumbleton, Dell'Olio, Folau, Dick)
Utility: Ward, Bastinac

23 players named, the Valkyries are finally starting to come together- we'd like to give a big warm welcome to Gumbleton whose return from injury has been much anticipated.

The Valkyries are outraged with Ziebells unfair 4 week suspension. One of our key, young, developing midfielders is going to be a large blow to the club. That being said, our remaining midfield depth should be more than enough to cover his unfortunate loss, bolstered by Sam Frosts debut, we believe that Meows Swedish metal could be in for an upsetting challenge ;)
Title: Re: EuroXV: Vatican Valkyries
Post by: Ziplock on August 10, 2012, 06:40:38 PM
And the Valkyries's injury riddled season is finished, with a disappointing 10th placed finished, substantially lower than anticipated. Largely attributed to losing the Vaticans top 3 draft picks to LTIs, the Valkyries are just looking forward to a strong pre-season, and a fit 2013 premiership cup.

On a brighter note, we would like to congratulate our inaugural B&F winner, Jack Grimes, a defender who came into 2012 with no pre-season under his belt, and after 3 matches to get his fitness up to scratch, has thus far averaged a healthy 96 PPG for the Valkyries from his 15 games, accruing 23 votes, to beat out runner up Hanley by 6, and 3rd place ward by 10.

The name of our clubs best and fairest medal has been under careful consideration by the Valkyries, and it was finally decided to name it, unconventionally, rather than after an influential player, after an attribute that applies both to our inaugural winner Jack Grimes and to our fledgling club, heralding from our most basic roots, in the ancient latin language

vires in faciem adversis Or 'Strength in the face of adversity'

Thank you Jack for all the hard work you've done for the club this season.

The Valkyries Rising Star has been more conventionally named, being given this year to our most improved player, and it's our proud pleasure to release to the public the Gaff Medal, named of course after it's winner, Andrew Gaff, one of only 4 Valkyries to play all 16 games.

We would also like to congratulate all our players representing Southern Europe
J. Grimes: 1
C. Ward: 1
J. Riewoldt: 1
P. Hanley: 1
B. Mcevoy: 1

We would also like to thank the various players who have stepped into the captaincy role throughout the year, especially Marc Murphy and Callan Ward, who both captained the Valkyries for 8 games each. Their dominance in the captaincy should not in anyway diminish the roles of our other players, who also sought to step up when require, in veteran player Adam Goodes, powerful key forward Jack Riewoldt, young and talented Jack Ziebell, and of course 19 year old Andrew Gaff.

Our award for greatest contribution to a single match will be announced at the end of our intra-club scratch matches, which will be played out from now until the end of finals.

with many of our boys suffering injury, it's just as well the valkyries didn't make it to the finals, or we could have been seriously embarrassed. That being said, in our intra-club match, Murphy was solid as always with 99, Grimes living up to his B&F award with 107, with Jvoldt taking the cake with a thumping 116. Christensen gets an honorable mention for his 84.
Title: Re: EuroXV: Vatican Valkyries
Post by: Ziplock on August 23, 2012, 09:39:34 PM
Our second intra-club match produced some thumping scores.
B&F winner Grimes backed up with a massive 125, second place Hanley followed suit with a 94, while JZ returning from suspension showed a lot of talent with his 92. Hawkins return from a serious concussion with an 85 cannot be ignore, neither can veteran goodes, finding some vintage form after his slow injury recovery with a massive 137, but truly taking the cake is Marc Murphy who dominated with 37 disposals, 9 marks, 6 tackles and 2 goals, ousting Jack Riewoldts 147 as the highest score for the year from a Valkyrie. With only 2 rounds remaining, it's now unlikely that that he will be over taken, Jack Riewoldt remains his biggest competitor, coming up against weak competition in the final round, while other contenders such as Ward and Goodes appear unlikely against stiff competition. That being said, Pearce Hanley has to remain in contention, although as a backman, a massive game would be needed from him.

We would like to congratulate Jack Grimes for finishing equal 12th in the inaugural Euro Medal and Pearce Hanley (25th). Other polling members such as Jack Riewoldt, Ben Mcevoy, Adam Goodes, Tom Hawkins, Callan Ward and Marc Murphy should also be pleased with their efforts this season, after all of them managed to poll at least once.

its pretty simple. You can only have 40 on your list.

So you cant have more than 40 on your list by the time the rookie draft starts. If you have 39 you can only take 1 rookie pick and will have to skip your rest. If you only have 32 you will have 8 rookie picks.

All delistings have to be done before the rookie starts ( so people can take them) you can wait till after the nat though.

There will be a few days gap between the nat and the rookie draft for this. Or you can start delisting now. I will make a thread about it.

we only had like (35?) this season on our lists, our lists have been expanded. So that means that I can add up to 5 players without having to delist anyone, and even if I do have to delist people, I have dead weight like connors etc. sitting on my bench.

We wish you the best and hope that you can help lead the Valkyries to victory.

the Valkyries would like to announce some intended positional changes for the 2013 season.

Roughead will be spending the majority of his time playing in defence and forward- leaving the rucking to Mcevoy, Stephenson and O'hAilpin

Veszpremi will be moving from the forward line, down into a defensive role, while Adams will be moving more into the guts of it, allowing Bewick and Haynes to roam around up forward.

46.

After looking long and hard at the remaining players, after disappointment struck with siposs, elliott, daw, mitchell, schulz being snagged less than a round before, there are very few left of value remaining for the Valkyries team... to be precise, only about 4 maximum that we believe would be of value to our squad.

But what is this? A shining beacon of light, coming unexpectedly from geelong?

Who is it do you ask? He is known by many titles.

An upgraded rookie.

A man with a remarkably similar name to a high draft pick this year.

A little asshole who beats on women.

But more importantly?

a 66 averaging first year player, removing his subbed games, and with the exception of one outlier, extremely consistent.

Known for his ability to score 30-40 points after coming on as the sub with barely a quarter to go, a man who, if he would stop hitting women, grow a pair of balls, and a proper tank, become a really good DTer, and something for the cats, alongside with caddy, to build a new midfield around....

The Valkyries, final pick, 46, soon to be known as the steal of the draft, goes to one of the top 2 remaining players in the draft, and the one with the best job security

JESSE STRINGER!

Jesse Stringer, welcome to the team.

The Valkyries are disappointed to say that up and coming midfielder Jack Ziebell has had to have a small clean up operation on his knee, which will most likely halter his progress for the season.

Although, it could just be a competition leveller- fully fit it was going to be an unfair advantage for the Valkyries.

In slightly better news, the Valkyries are happy to announce that our only essendon player, Scott Gumbleton, is unlikely to have been jacked up along with his team mates.

New Valkyries recruit Mitch Golby has starred in the opening NAB matches, scoring 42 and 34 in his games, translating to approximately 115 DT points for a full game.

Good job mitch, you're a star of the future.

^ The board will admit that was a contributing factor, especially considering how difficult it is to allow entry into the vatican for visitors.

Alas, most our reasons will remain undisclosed. Our fans can seek comfort in our improved onfield performances next season when we win the grandfinal, lead by our new star spearhead forward Chris Dawes.

A number of teams have already approached me in terror asking if they can forfeit their matches against us already, as they do not wish to subject their playing group to the mental trauma of being crushed by the (Soon to be named) Valkyries.

You must have misread my memo zip. Serbia offered mercy by allowing you to forfeit our two matches. I think we could have a more competitive intra club match.

In reviewing our season we realised our match with valkyries in the last round wasn't nearly competitive enough to prepare us for finals and thus the poor pefornance.

Post by: Ziplock on December 16, 2013, 03:14:13 PM
So, a couple of stats for games played (Valkyries include finals in our B&F, so our team played 15 matches this year).

Only 8 players did not take the field this year- Veszpremi, Jacobs, Frost, Towers, Stringer, Hickey, Lee and Dick.

only 2 players played all 15 games: Ward and Mcevoy
Another 2 players played 14 games: Ziebell and Bastinac
And 2 more players played more than 12 games: Hanley (13) and Golby (12)

Average number of games played by our best 15:

Backs=10.25
Mids= 11.5
Rucks= 15
Forwards= 8

Total number of average games for best 15: 10.5

Now going to tally up the count.

Interesting facts: Hanley polled 9 out of his 13 games, averaging 1.23 votes per game, polling in 69% of his matches.
Compared to that, Ward averaged 1.13 votes per game, and only polled in 40% of his matches.

The top 5 for votes per game are rounded out by Grant with 1 votes/game from 3 games, Laird with 0.833 votes/game from 6 games and Goodes with 0.75 votes/game from 8 games.

In contrast, Bastinac who averaged 85 this year and played 14 games only picked up 1 vote- polling just 0.07 votes per game.

For the number of times polled per game (who polled the post often in the games they played), Hanley topped it with, as said before, polling in a huge 69% of his 13 games.
Second place was Grant, polling in 66% of his 3 games
3rd went to Ziebell at 43% from his 14 games
4th was Ward at 40% of his 15 games
and Goodes rounded out the top 5 polling in 38% of his 8 games.

I CARE <3.

And only have 4 pages for me, so no idea where that response would be Whatz :P.

Think you guys should contend for a spot in the 8 easily, but bottom 6 may be calling if those youngsters don't rise up to the occasion.

First pre-season match of the year has Taylor Adams scoring 116 points vs geelong, with both him and Caddy being named in the best.

Current injury list for Svalbard:

Christensen (12)
Clay smith (TBC)
Goodes (6-8)
Dawes (Test)
Grant (1-2)
Gumbleton (12)
Lee (Test)

Biggest problem is definitely the forward, especially considering Higgins is being nursed back.

Quick update after NAB 2:

Hawks vs North: Cunnington Shredded, while McDonald and Jacobs put up solid performances. Bastinac and Ziebell in the dog house (albeit it, with limited TOG for both).

Pies vs Richmond: After a decent game, Armstrong backs it up with a stinker. Classic.

Lions vs Suns: Hanley chopped up, Golby slightly under par. Lynch put up a reasonable score, despite kicking 1.4, and Nicholls slowly getting back into it returning from injury.

Essendon vs Port: Pittard shredded, which was nice to see.

Dogs vs freo: Stevens put up a good score, and  Higgins made a reasonable effort being eased in as the sub. Honeychurch is a little disappointing, and Gumby with twang :(

Swans vs Eagles: Gaff chopped up.

Melb vs Geelong: Poor effort from trengove after a solid week in rd 1 and grimes going average, while allowing Bartel to slot 2. Caddy pulled out a decent 120+ though, while Hawkins just kind of flopped at sub 50.

Giants vs Saints: Hickey sharing the ruckload with longer, and picking up no possessions was not very useful. Bugg at 125 is impressive though, while Ward at 82 could have been worse. Hoskin-elliott a little average. Haynes was solid as was Kelly in his first taste of AFL football.

Basically, a bit of a turbulent round for Svalbard... probably would have put up a bit of an average score :P

With Hickey gone for 8-12 and Nicholls with a suspected PCL, Svalbards ruck stocks are thinning, relying currently on Giles to play week in, week out.

While we have the utmost faith in him, it could get rough.

Haha, it's actually ridiculous. Two number 1 rucks in their respective teams go down with LTIs within a week of eachother.

Svalbard would like to farewell Pittard and Reid and thank them for their services to the club.

And we'd like to welcome Steve Johnson!

as well as, in a separate trade, Trent McKenzie!

The loss of Hanley's DPP hurts the team, but with the addition of Mckenzie and when Higgins gets defence status, our backline should be stronger regardless.

The inclusion of Ziebell and Christensen as forwards next year is a big boost to the team.

It leaves us with this current team, with other projected DPP changes, which we believe is reasonably strong/ competitive

Giles plays for Bombers now ;). Also Caddy may just get plain mid, but Lynch would slot in nicely as F4!

Got quite a young base there so interesting to see you guys recruit Stevie J for that short term push for finals.

We got him quite cheaply in a mutually beneficial trade

Valkyries trade: Jasper Pittard + Sam Reid + Rookie Pick 32 + N34
Metal trade: Steve Johnson

We also got mundy in something similar

Svalbard gives: Betts, Bewick, N18, N48
Svalbard receives: Mundy

Belarus gives: Mundy
Belarus receive: N18, N28, N48

Hungary gives: N28
Hungary receives: Betts + Bewick

I was feeling like we could have a serious crack this season, we didn't lose any best 15, or even our first tier subs :P
