Seeing as Club cricket starts this weekend post how you played and in what divison you are in. It will
be good to watch FF players Cricket season stats. :P
You're lucky barlow, i don't start until next week, when school comes back. I play u17 grade, opening batsman last season although i might ask for a drop to 5/6 when we play a bottom side. Just to see how i go.
My season started last weekend i played B Grade and Under 16s batted in under 16s and made 12 not out havnt got to bowl yet we field next week then played B grade and got 0 for 16 off 5 overs but didnt get a bat cause i was at number 11
Nice ph :) where do you bat what do you bowl?
I bat right-handed and our no. 1 team rule is that i can't bowl. My left arm orthodox is way too inconsistent.
i am a bowler PB i can't bat too well but i am starting to improve but i bowl right arm medium fasts and usually bat at 11 in B grade but more middle to lower order in under 16s
i play indoor
No outdoor cic?
Sweet ph! You dominate last season? I finished 6th in our league, 1 spot off making the best side. :( my captain came top, he beat everyone by heaps.
This will be my 8th season retired :)
i got the 6th most wickets in my league in under 16s last year but thats about all
That's good. Can't be the best at everything. It's something to improve on. I want to make another 50, every week i'd get a start, get to thirty odd, then play a loose shot. I managed to make 3 40's in a row last season >:( I'll take those scores but want to get past the half this season.

nah dont play outdoor
indoor is more fun but i find that my concentration as a keeper is worse if im batting first
ATM i am 17/2's and i am a bowler, i play C Grade also taking 2 fa on the weekend
I came 2nd in bowlin average in the league last season and 5th for wickets.
won my club one's though.

yeah i am always happy just to make it past 10 runs cause i don't usually end up getting much of a bat and when i do i often get out early :-\
I am playing div 2 cricket. Last season was leading wicket taker with 25 wickets at an average of 10.25. Opening bowler with my right-arm medium fast. Get my wickets with my swing. Not rated as a batter in seniors although I have a number of 50's to my name
I am an opening bowler and bat at number 3 or 4.
Last year I won the batting and bowling average for my school team, batting and bowling average for my club and also bowling average and most wickets for the league, so was a pretty good year ;)
Had the 2nd Phase of the North West Wizards (regional team) try outs on Monday, got another 3 sessions for that, hopefully I make the cut :)
We've got some star cricketers on FF. :)
I play U14A in CMCA and play U15 Hatch too.
I play Cricket with Pothead in B Grade.
I suck though :P
I'm more of a footy man..
i like my footy more aswel, but seem to be equally as good at both.

Playing now. Just got out for 15. Played a loose hook on a pitch which is greener than the lawn at st. Andrews. >:(
i played my worst game for 3 years on friday night
run out 3 times
dropped 2 catches
bowled 4 wides and had 4 4's and a 6 taken from my two overs

How can you get out 3 times?
have you never played indoor?
played U16s and B grade yesterday i bowled 0 for 2 off 5 overs and made 0 not out then in B grade i bowled 1 for 12 off 8 overs and made 0 not out again
Made 48* yesterday, it was a one dayer and the new rules are we have to retire at 50, my last shot was a slog sweep against a spinner, it bounced just next to the boundary line and was called four, but my coach thought it was a 6 and he took me off thinking I had made 50 -_- Haha
Bowled alright - only got 2 overs as it was the first game of the season and the coach wanted to get a look at everyone's bowling...what have you been doing all the net sessions then?? ::)
All out for 109. In reply they are 0/74 off 29 overs. Going to lose :'(
Right arm bat/bowl. Can bat anywhere I get told to and bowl leggies but can bowl mediums if needed.
I play Div 3 so far this season in the WDCA (Warragul Disctrict Cricket Association, anyone else play this league?)
Round 1 we lost by 16 runs, I made a hard hitting 2 and took 0-38 bowling mediums. Not what I usually bowl but we had a few players unavailable so I had to.
On Saturday, I took 5-26 off 8 bowling leggies and made 9 not out. We lost by 7 runs, ended up 5-159 chasing 166. Not too bad considering they were 2-117 after 16 overs. I had 0-12 off my first over, then in the next 4 overs took 5-9. I got the 3rd to 7th wicket :)
I think I'll be a bowler this year.

i play in the LDCA leongatha district cricket association so not far from you one mate
3/2 of 12 in C Grade and 1/9 of 8 in juniors.
Bowled juniors out for 72 and atm are 0/28
Bowled C Grade out for 116 and atm 7/30
My cricket days are over, couple of tons and quite a few +5fers. Fielding all rounder was probably my forte. Batting mostly at 6/7 and coming on first change with the ball.
I played District Cricket in Darwin for four years (1 season D, 2 seasons C, 1 season B grades). I have two great memories from that time, firstly playing in a match that saw my team mate Adam (Geelong boy) claim TWO hat tricks in the same game and I took two of the catches at first slip! He had his face on the front of the NT News holding ALL the stumps representing his scalps, he ended up with 7 for 20 8)
Secondly was watching my A Grade side be demolished by Merv Hughes. I think he played for Pints (Pints is the ACTUAL Club name, not how they paid him) when he took 9 fer. The only wicket he didn't get was a guy who was run-out trying to get off strike from big Swervin Mervin. I reckon I've told RB this story as I reckon don't you play with Merv's son RB? - Apologies if I'm wrong.
Playing back here in Adelaide I played in The Torrens Valley District (B Grade Country Cricket). My favourite story from those days was one day I was stand in Captain (Skipper had a CFS emergency and Vice was playing in the A's) so I put everyone up the order to give them a hit, it didn't work too well until Hillsy and I came together for what I still believe is a record partnership for the 9th wicket (157) - of this partnership I made 37. Hillsy was actually the wicket to fall, scoring 159 - including one over in which he sent the first five balls back over the long on boundary and blocked the sixth. The opposition team were sledging him for not going for the last one to which he replied ' It was a good nut, well bowled'. What he said to me mid pitch at the change of over was a bit different, he said 'he was flowered'. I fell for 51 a couple of overs later, leaving the Junior (who had never scored double figures before) at the other end on 9 not out :'(
That Junior went on to become a Disrict Keeper at East Torrens and made many more runs over the years than I did at Senior level in our side.

Correct, actually gave him quite a nice bruise at training tonight! He's a pretty good batsman, not quite as good a bowler as his old man though ;)
But trust me, playing backyard cricket at his house keeps you always keeping an eye on the doorway to make sure Merv isn't coming out to roll his arm over ;) :)

I played for Darwin CC (Eagles), our home ground down is down at Kahlin Oval. Loved running into the nets there with Cullen Bay as the backdrop and having a laksa at Mindl Beach Mkt on Thursday nights after training 8)
Palmerston (Magpies) were the enemy at the time (1998-2002), not sure if the rivalry still exists. I must say I really loved the relaxed atmosphere of D Grade when I first started, all one day matches on a Sunday and Beers on from as soon as the last ball was bowled, often with the opposition and a BBQ. C and B were a bit more serious with more expectation on me in the nets to keep bowling to the A Graders because of my fitness and speed. We used to rotate alot of bowlers in the nets to the A Grade batsmen that had come up from South (which frustrated me) but it had to be done to make sure the quality fringe talent from South had a chance to get better and also strengthen our comp too.
We lived at Palmerston for a while in 'The Chase' and really enjoyed it.
Well well well, today was an absolute diasater. From last week the other team was 0/74 chasing out 109 and with 72 overs to get the runs, us winning was never going to happen. To make matters worse we only had 9 players >:(
They batted until halfway, declaring on 3/208. So we only needed to bat out 34 overs with 9 players to avoid an outright defeat. Did we do it?? No :( all out for 63 just after halfway. I myself though, batted from the start to the finish ending on 32* :D Very happy with the way i played but wished that we had another 2 players coz i felt like there was a fifty out there for me :(
So we start the season with an outright loss.
only got to play Under 16s yesterday as B grade got called off but we batted and i opened and made a slow 18 then got caught 2 balls before drinks
Played div 2 yesterday and we had a tie. Came to the crease at no.10 with the score at 8-115. Departed 8 overs later witht he score on 9-200. I scored 31 off 28 , in a match defining partnership. Then bowled and got 1-24 off 8, bowling the death overs as well and picked up 1-8 in those 4 overs at the death
Washout number 1 for the season.
Last year we had heaps, I batted a total of 9 times, including finals...
Had training last night, and it turns out that i'll be the permanent captain, as i filled in on Sunday and our old skip is no longer playing. Good for me, bad for the team ;D
What happened to your old skipper PB? Did you poison him ;)

No, i didn't poison him, it's too hard for him to make all trainings. He'll probably play some games with us, but i'm captain :P Got me game in 1 hour.
Play U14A and made 27 n.o and took 3/7. :)
We bowled first, got them out for 250~. We had this one end which an absolute dud, and no-one wanted to bowl from it, so i bowled myself to the tail; took a solid 1/11 off 4 overs with my slow left armers.
Then when batting we needed to survive 11 overs to make stumps. My partner fell LBW early, and the No. 3 was playing really well, i just sat at my end and blocked. Then the 10th over was bowled by a spinner, i faced the last ball, tried to cream the fielder under the helmet, ball went straight under it, clean bowled >:( Gone for 9.
I was so annoyed with myself, i was so stupid to play something like that so close to stumps. So next week we need another 212 starting from 2/38.

Well, my team is looking to gets its first win tomorrow, against the other side who is in the same position as us, one outright loss, one first innings loss. When i looked through their squad i didn't really find anyone who stood out, so hoping to bat first, gets some runs on the board, come back the next week and clean them up.

Played away today, won the toss, bowled first on a terrible pitch. Knocked them over for 130. That wasn't the surprise, the surprise was i took 2/19 off 7. Both wicket taking overs being maidens too :)
(Left arm half-trackers FTW!!!)
I got the ball turning fo rthe first time in a very long time, and i actually enjoyed bowling for a bit there, but my last two overs were all long-hops ;D ;D
In reply we are 4/53 :-\ Our no. 4 is on 23* and i just joined him at the crease, yet to score.
Equation: 78 runs off 72 overs. Should do if we hold our wickets. :)
Well done PB. Looks like you have the game wrapped up if you and your number four take it slow. Get your eye in mate. Plug away and move on from there.
i got two wickets in two balls bowling right arm slingers on friday night but we lost :(
Guy in my team a couple of years ago had to have a shoulder reco. He bowled slingers and threw sidearm a lot.
Good stuff though cic.
i normally bowl offspin tho
but i was struggling to get my line right so i bowled a couple of slingers and they came out okay lol
Hahaha that's the stuff ;)
Our league 20/20 comp started last night. I wasn't playing but I went to watch. Ended up having to umpire.
flower I hate umpiring!

We made 6/140 by halfway, so got the win. I made 24 and the other guy who i was battign with made 34.
We declared, sent them back in, and they creamed us, 3/200 off 35 overs. there was a 94, a 90* and 2 ducks in that score.
But we won the first innings, and that's what counts.
Anyone in finals?
We finished 2nd, semi next weekend :D
we lost on Friday although we needed 30 from the last 4 overs
because the last pair didn't run aggressive enough and our best batsmen got out twice in an over :(
Yeah my team's in the finals, also playing a T20 tomorrow night for school..should be fun :)

Does anyone play indoor? I was thinking of starting up a team to play with a few of my mates while its off-season for outdoor? Is it worth it???

Right-handed batsman who bowls a bit of leg spin
Batting: middle-order although it has been suggested that i open...havent got the balls to do that yet tho ;) i am very defensive and go through patches where I struggle to score and lose my wicket playing a silly shot but most of the time im a solid accumulator.......i got chosen for a representativ side a couple of years back, which im quite proud of! Too much pressure :P plus the old man is games & run record holder for my club and he's an opener, makes it even tougher on me...but i think ive gotta change things up this year and might give opening a shot as i had my worst season ever last year and felt like quitting multiple times so ya never know, opening may be my forte :D
I never used to bat at all, i was down at 9 (this is bakc in U13s) then one game in a 2nd innings i got a chance to open, yet to be pushed outta my stop since. One game i asked to bat at 6 (since i'm captain that went ahead easily) but was pushed back to no. 1 once figured no-one else can open.

wow, very,very simmilar to mine!
Leg-Spinner and RHB, not an allrounder, more of a bowler who can bat. Like a Jason Gillespie or a Harbhajan Singh
Lower order, usually about 7-8, basically I come in when our team has fallen apart, I score 70 percent of my runs behind the bat. However, I possess a vicious square cut and a decent ability to take batsmen down the ground occasionally. I am a very conserative batsmen. Very simmilar to Ed Cowan in that aspect. It has been suggested a plethora of times I open. But I dont have the balls. :P Ive never been bowled or caught behind. Only caught and run out. I have 3 diamond ducks to my name.
I play with a Screaming Cat bat http://screamingcat.com.au/.
Bowling, Im quite loopy in my bowling style and get taken down the ground a fair bit. I generate a fair bit of turn, which wrist exercises have helped with. I got coaching from Terry Jenner just before he became ill, and that has helped a lot. I get most of my wickets by mistimed shots, however I can deliver one that spins on and one that stays ridiculously low. Im hopeless at the wrong-un. I have a strike rate in the low 20's (yes I worked it out :P)
Fielding, I have cat like reflexes, I usually field close in or at cover, but I can be sent anywhere. Im a very safe pair of hands except in the outfield. I have a very weak but scaringly accurate arm.
and yeah, Jay, currently in yr 10 there. :)

Im involved in an academy as well :)
Bowling: i get a lot of turn but struggle to land it in the right areas consistently...had some 1-on-1 coaching with peter mcintyre (played for australia) and im improving :)
wow, very,very simmilar to mine!
HAHA! wow that is very similar to me! You even added thing in yours that i forgot to put in mine that are identical :D
Well good luck in your cricket KK and remember, school work comes before cricket going into year 11...
Does it Jayman?? :( Bummer. :P
ahahah cheers Jay, yeah I know it does. =)

Oh and btw...here is my cricket bio:
Right-handed batsman who bowls a bit of leg spin
Batting: middle-order although it has been suggested that i open...havent got the balls to do that yet tho ;) i am very defensive and go through patches where I struggle to score and lose my wicket playing a silly shot but most of the time im a solid accumulator.......i got chosen for a representativ side a couple of years back, which im quite proud of! If I managed to land it in the right areas consistently I'd be alright, I can generate decent spin using all 4 fingers (thumb doesn't count) and placing them 1 by 1 one the seam (not all at once).
However I haven't been able to play competively yet so I will realize most likely I'm actually not good.
When I am in form I can swing the ball as much as those indoor players . This is with an outdoor cricket ball though. Very wristy action I have. I would say I am a bowling all-rounder. Use to be a batting all-rounder in juniors. I played div 2 last season and have had 4 sides seeking me to play div 1 for them next year. 19 years of age. Interesting to see how I go this year as I have gotten a boilermaker apprenticeship. Lifting all the metal and stuff has seen me add on 15kg in 6 months, combined with gym and mma and jiu-Jitsu training
I am a very aggressive batter but have a switch where I can be defensive then all of a sudden bang just start teeing off. For instance last season in t20 it took me 6 balls to get off the mark. I was struggling big time. 4 off 10. There opening bowling gives me a juicy half volley I smash over covers,1 bounce 4. He decides to try and sledge me. It's on. His next over I hit him for 4 fours and a six. Finished up on 38 off 20
Good to hear more and more about your guys cricketing careers! Sounds like we have quite a few quality players round here. ;)
My pre-season cricket training is now building up more and more, after having a month or two off bowling after the end of the season (I am a pace bowler and had a few injuries during the season) to give my body a bit of a rest, have been batting as much as I can but with so much rain lately it is a bit of a struggle to find dry nets! (unless we book an indoor net)
But after starting bowling again a few weeks back I have been getting back into it, still not 100% by any means and struggling a bit for rhythm but that will come. Have been invited to go to the Victorian trials next thursday at the G so that should be fun!

tbh never had it officially tested, but have been told by people who know their stuff and using some rough measurement techniques I'd say I'm around the 110-120km/h mark, remember I am a bit younger than some of you guys ;)
But like I said, don't know officially. Hopefully sometime soon it will be tested!

i have been playing for 5 years
A group of me and my mates formed a team to hopefully play some matches over winter, in our first game we had no idea what was going on and lost by about 130 runs lol and that week at footy I broke my arm so missed the next 5 or so matches and when I was all set to come back our team folded (dunno why :P)
It was very different to 'real' cricket, an interesting experience. Doubt I'd go back to it but you never know.

Kieran Gray is only 11 years old and yet he might already have enjoyed the most memorable day of his cricketing life.
Kieran, who plays for Maidenhead & Bray's U13 side, a picturesque Berkshire ground on the banks of the River Thames, took a wicket with every ball of an over - inviting speculation from club officials that the feat might never have been achieved before in a competitive match.
He was surely the first bowler to be removed from the attack after taking six wickets in an over. As other juniors got a chance to bowl, he preserved remarkable figures of 1-1-0-6.
The first five batsmen from Taplow CC were all bowled and, with tension rising on the banks of the Thames, his sixth ball was struck straight to cover. Taplow, 0-6 after one over, were all out for 21 and lost by 131 runs.
I'm thinking about having a 'return', one of my golfing buddies is my old Cricket Clubs' President and has been in my ear about returning to the fold.
I'm thinking about it, B Grade Captaincy perhaps, bat at 6, bowl 2nd change - will my back hold out at 40?
*keep you posted, training starts at end of September.

Getting keen for the new cricket season. Full off season of training under my belt has since me bulk up from a 6ft 60 kg opening bowler to a 6ft 84kg bowler. Should hit the deck harder now

Haha same, one will bowl them around the legs, the next will go way off into the offside net :P
i play indoor and cannot bowl at the death :-[
picked up 3 stumpings tho on friday night :P
The one time I played indoor cricket that was the 1 thing I was good at - bowling at the death haha. So different to normal batting in cricket, hard to adjust.
Yeah KK my pre-season is going pretty well too, training about 4 times a week at this stage (POTENTIALLY could train about 6 or 7 but I don't want to break down before the season even starts :P)
Took 10 wickets in my first weekend of cricket for the season in t20
what are people's advice for overcoming pre-game batting nerves?
I'm not sure why but I just get really nervous in the lead-up to a game; didn't fare too great in the last summer with the bat and was wondering what people's tips are on beating these pre-game nerves? Thanks guys

Hey Big Tom
Best advice I was given back in the dark ages was...
Relax and just be confident with what you can do.(whatever level that is..opening bat or in at 7th drop)
You are already as good at the sport as you are going to be by the time the game comes around, so stop worrying now.
(If you need/want to be better then thats a training issue)
You should just think about having some fun competing with your team mates in the sport you are playing..
Think of it as fun and much of the nerves should settle once the game starts.
There you go..some old peoples advice...lol 8)

cheers T-Dog... anybody else's input is also valued too
Different people get nerves more so than others, everyone is different. One thing to remember is, it isn't bad to be nervous. A little bit of nervous energy can make you switch on a little more, but if it gets to the point where you can't concentrate on your game then it is a bit of a problem. You just have to back yourself, you're there for a reason and a lot of the game, like most other sports, in between the ears. You have to ask yourself, every time you go out to bat are you in fear of failure? If you are then you're in trouble...I know it sounds easy but just relax and hit the ball! If you don't make runs, so what? There'll always be another innings and you have to have a positive mindsight every time you play.
I always get nervous before I go out to bat. Best thing is to pretend to be 'super confident' before hand. :P
Be arrogant about going out there. I said to one of my mates before I went out to bat that I'd smack a 6 near thy yonder shed.....
I did hit that 6 right where I said I would, and made 53 not out. :P
go out to bat thinking you need to be a hero to chase a big total
have no fear and be confident in your ability
thanks for all your help guys, cheers for all of you :)
if you got any more ideas keep em coming!
start your innings by playing your favourite shot regardless of the delivery that comes
My tip is to not be too stationary before going in to bat. Get in the nets, play practice shots, do whatever you can to keep moving.
Works for me anyway!

I would agree with this. Not that I do play cricket for a team, but in any sport I play, I've found that moving around, playing a few practice strokes or having a kick can really settle the nerves before a match.

No matter where the ball is pitched? You're not going to play a reverse sweep first ball in if their opening bowler is on and gives you a bouncer....
why not? indoor cricket balls don't bounce as much nor do they hurt when you are hit by them

I coppied Warnie in 1992 when I was 12, so no supprises I had some success as a Leggy, well I haven't played for four years but looking to this summer (as did last summer ::)), only 32 and with a best of 5 for 13 I think I have something to offer, but we'll see

I don't actually play, but favourite shot for me is straight back over the bowlers head :P
The little leg glance that goes for 4 between the keeper and fine leg, tells the bowler to stop bowling at my toes, as Im very good there. :P
chasing 43 in the last 4 overs got them with 2 balls to spare despite losing 2 wickets along the way
How old are you cic? That play your favourite shot statement sounds like something a kid would say.
On the question, I too get nervous before I go in to bat and before I bowl. Batting at 7 and opening the bowling.
I get real fidgety when I am the next man in. Walk around heaps, drink heaps and piss like a race horse. Walk out at your speed and breathe , take centre and take your time. I am nervous until that first run is scored. I find I like to get bat on ball early. Have faith in your ability. Play each ball on its merits. Once I get bat on ball the tension goes and I relax
Batting at 7 many don't expect me to be able to bat. So have some fun. Stick around, score runs piss the fielders off. You will feel good and relaxed
Bowling wise I have been very successful since coming up from juniors 120 wickets in 3 seasons. I have a routine of stretching, drinking water and loosening up. Before I bowl my first ball I like to do a jingle like you see swimmers do with their arms. Get them moving release tension
As a bowler I hate being hit straight back past me. Whether in the air or along the ground. Batting wise my strength is from mid wicket to cover in front of the batsman
Yesterday I faced the club bowling machine on 141km/h bowling inswinger yorkers. Got bowled once. Was good fun till I chopped it on to my big toe
cheers for all the tips re nerves and stuff last week
For your information, we won our game by 5 wickets and I came in and made 13 not out batting at 6. Hit the winning runs too 8)
Batting at four this Saturday in a two-day match so my aim is to make at least 30 and bat for a long time... Big score coming I can feel it!
Just want to gloat a bit :D
Took my first ever 5-for today after switching to bowling leggies this season. Only knocking around in C grade at the moments so the wickets came cheap, but the celebrations were still impressive :)

Very impressive Spink! 8) Did you get the match ball? Still yet to crack the 5 for, 4/7 is my top figures so far. :/
Thought I might gloat a bit too, me being a very conserative batsmen is an understatement, my high score before today was 7 and that came off 38 overs in the middle, I just leave anything outside off, block on the stumps, and occasionally guide one through the slips or arund the corner if Im feeling risky. I usually bat 11, which allows for a healthy last wicket partnership if the other guy is established, so we lost 4/17 this morning in a 70 over game and we were only 6 overs in, so I was sent in a number 6, nek minnit 70 overs is done, 4/198, the other guy made 147, And I batted for 64 overs for a new top score of 19, including a 6 over point which left me dumbfounded Id actually connected and the guy at the other end pissing himself laughing. Mind you I felt dead when I got home.
But guess what the hilarious thing is?........
I was dropped on the first ball I faced! 8)

I think it's more knowing that anything can happen and that he doesn't want to get out cheaply early.
I find cookie (from my experience of having a hit in the nets, I don't actually play) that when I bat, I need to get my feet moving from ball one. I know it's different from actually playing, but you can get nervous knowing your mates will take the piss if you get bowled straight away :P

Last year came against someone very similar (except he was opening the batting) so we just surrounded him with back pad short mid silly point etc, one of the first bouncers caught the shoulder of his bat and over the keepers head for four. Dude was 23 and shoulda seen the smile on his face apparently first four he's ever hit (wtf?) Next over he gloved one to my short mid ;)
Well done Koop, same thing happened to my side today... 50 over game, slumped to 4/13 and I got us to 4/75 before I got a peach of a delivery and was bowled... Bowled out for 98 though haha
I made 21 btw, my partner got 47
My best figures came in the same year. 5/9 in a regular season game and then 6/12 against the same side in the gf, which we lost yet I picked up man of the match
Yeah pyro. I hate getting out if its a stupid shot. Especially early

Same thing happened to me last year. I came to the crease at 8/115. Me and the other batter put on 80 runs in 8 overs. We always had good partnerships. In a t20 game we were batting together. We put on 60 in 4. I got dropped 3rd ball for 0. Went on to make 37 off 15. Hit both openers for six. First over cover, second was a straight drive
Disappointing loss today. Opened the batting and dismissed for 9 sparking a collapse. All out for 89 batting out only 22 overs. Took 4 with the ball and we looked a show of an upset early, but ended up getting soundly beaten....
Played my first game of cricket earlier this year. It was a game of college "gentleman's" 20/20 earlier this year. Basically so many people signed up, we had a bowling and a batting team. For my one over, I got 2/14. So many wides, but the ones I put on the pitch were good. One got lofted to the lad at deep mid-wicket, who took a lovely chest mark (great bruise in the morning!). The second one was a slower ball which tore through middle stump :D
Such a good day, I got "unofficial" man of the match for our team (we lost by a fair bit, lol) and so I was in the boot of a car drinking a 2 week old beer which was lying in our captain's car. It was about 30C, but goddamn, it was a delicious trophy!
batted for 25 overs today, came in at 3/17 in the 7th over (we were 0/16 after 5) and finished the day at 8/169 after 32 overs, top scored with a slow but unbeaten 52 which should hopefully push my claims to get into the school 1st XI next week 8)
it was a two-day game and we lost in the end but we didn't lose outright so that was good
i took 2 catches in the final over of my indoor game to avoid defeat keeping their best batsman off strike 8)
Good stuff Tom, hopefully you get there sooner rather than later, keep putting the runs on the board like that and you'll be there in no time :)
In juniors this morning pretty uneventful game from a personal point of view, came in at 4 with a couple of overs to go with the opener on 90-ish so got run-out on the last ball of the over trying to get him the strike but that's fine, needed to be done.
In seniors in the afternoon managed to make 53* (one dayer and a new rule this year is that you have to retire at 50 which is a touch gay) and managed to pick up 2 fa so pretty handy day at the office.
Congrats on the 50s Tom and RB :)
Got 2/24 off 5 for Adelaide High this morning vs Prince Alfred College, then for Glenelg in the afternoon got 4/18 of 7.3 overs vs Sturt, came in into the attack relatively early and bowled a 5 over spell which went wicketless for 11 runs, then came on again just after tea when they were 6 down and ripped through their tail, as leg spinners tend to do. Second spell 4/7 off 1.3 :) so 6/42 off the days play, which brings my season total to 10/66 off 20.3 overs, really hitting a purple patch so far this summer. As I only nabbed 7 wickets for school and 8 for District with West Torrens last year makes me the 2nd best bowler in the whole Under 16 whites comp this year (Jayman and Tominator would know what that is.) But thats bound to drop as only 4 out of the 14 teams have confirmed there scores for today with mycricket ( you can check my district scores on mycricket as well just to see Im not lying. ;) )

hahah 3 games a weekend would absolutely kill me at this stage. :P Did toy with the idea of trying out for Flinders Park, but that never eventuated.
Cricket is a dog of a game. Go out there, get a gem of the ball first up and there is nothing you can do. :(
Looks like my retirement lasted 3 games, been talked into heading back to training on Thursday.
You're not alone there Jay...at least I lasted 3 balls :P
A pair on the weekend :( 3rd ball leading edge for school and a 9th ball caught behind in District which was given out, clipped my shirt on the way through, was about 5 cm from my bat, nothing you can do though.

don't worry mate, I finished the end of last season with a pair and came out start of this season sh*tting myself - sitting on a pair for 6 months is sooo bad - got that first run off an inside edge through to fine leg, but once that happened my nerves just vanished and I made 28* that day :)
See at the moment, Im putting all my focus into batting. Anyone have any other fitness regimes that can help me with my cricket and try to take my mind of just batting? If you get what I mean :-\
Torn my rotator cuff. Bowling figures aren't looking too good so far this season. 4-79 off 18 overs in the 2 games i've bowled with 2-55 off 12 today (didn't have many bowlers so had to bowl a few). Today was the first day of a 2-dayer, bowled them out for 213 in 51 overs on a ground the size of a postage stamp. In reply we're 0-54.
Made 17 today and that turned out to be the second highest score of the day. Smashed a spinner straight to short cover but it was right off the middle of the bat f it was half a meter either side of the fielder it was four runs
Finished the school season with an average of 42.5 with scores of 13no, 5, 50no and 17, happy with my batting over the course of the year 8)
5 with the bat, no action with the ball today. Given out LBW by a bloke from my team who was umpiring, didn't leave me in a good mood :)
Picked up another 3 today in school and club, takes my combined tally to 15 wickets off 7 games this season. So far this season my figures have been 1/21, 3/5, 2/28, 4/18, 2/24, 1/29 and 2/31, so 15/146 off 51 overs this season, really in a purple patch. :)
Good stuff KK.
School yesterday, came in at 5/60 odd after about 25-ish and they were well on top but I managed to hang around and get through the tough period and bat until about the 43 over mark to take our tally up to 6/130. Ended up creaming one similar to you Tom but off the opener and to mid-on who took a very sharp catch, half a meter either side or over his head it was 4 but oh well. Ended up with 22 but it was one of the innings I was a lot prouder of, I've made 50*s and 60+'s before but this one I worked a lot harder for and was going against my natural game and playing the anchor role for our gun bat at the other end.
We ended up with 157 off our 50 overs and then bowled them out for 110 in a great bowling effort especially seeing as our spinner was out and our other opening bowler went down with a side strain in one of his first overs leaving a lot on the shoulders of myself and our first changer. Managed to get 3/28 myself which was nice.
EDIT: Not to forget an absolute SITTER dropped at mid-off which as you could guess I wasn't exactly stoked about.
That would be flowering right, a flowering horrible umpiring decision gives me my first ever pair. Considering giving it up, would save me from going through disapointment after disapointment

boys I need some help... I have been having a good season, but with pretty inconsistent scores, and I wanna know if you guys have any tips on this.
I tend to go on a make decent scores once I can get my eye in, which is generally after I face about 10-15 balls, but until then I am like Mike Hussey, a very nervous starter. This season I've made 31, 4, 50no, 19, 5, 27, 3, 18no, and 1.
The four single-digit scores have been when I've faced less than 10 balls. The 3 was when I chopped a ball on and last weekend I made 1 after attempting a cover drive but getting caught behind. I'm a nervous starter but as I said once I get my eye in I am very difficult to get out and generally make a decent score.
With that in mind, what are people's tips for getting through those first 10-15 balls and getting your eye in before you get out?
Thanks for all advice :)
Hey mate, I have experienced a similar problem but I will give you the best advice I can
I would suggest just putting away your cover drive for the first 10-15 balls of your innings and just focusing really hard to hang around. It is always great to get a shot away early in your innings and really gets your confidence up but that reward does not outweigh the risk IMO e.g. you can easily catch the outside edge if you're eye is not it in yet.
Early in your innings just try to push the singles, dont worry about batting too slowly as you can always make that up later when you are settled.
I have always found that run 0-1 is the hardest you have to make in any innings, my plan is just to tell your partner to back up, hit it in a gap and run.
So yeah, just park away your attacking shots early and just focus as hard as you can to face out the first 10-15 balls of your innings. Then look to tick the scoreboard over
Hope I helped :)

Keep ya head still, bat straight and a good stride forward. Tell yourself "Forward defensive, forward defensive" :)
Just block until you have the feel for the conditions (get your eye in)..
Dont be lured into hitting/chasing the bad ball and getting caught early (your timing might not be there)
Also take deep breaths and try to slow your heart rate. Nervousness is normally just an effect of increased heart rate.
Hope that helps in some way.
Or just do what i do, put the cover drive away and look for cow!

haha, yes JB! ;D
Yeah some good advice from UTM there
Pretty much what the others have said, always have faith in yourself to pick up the scoring later on so you can confidently play out the first few overs of your innings.
As an example when I came out to bat on Saturday we were 5/20 and they were all over us, my partner and I faced out nearly 8 maidens in a row until he got a single haha, but after that I was seeing the ball nicely and as soon as a change in bowling came I was playing them with ease and ended up getting a 50 probably not much over a run a ball, given I faced about 20-25 dots to start my innings but unfortunately we were 9 down when I brought it up so didn't really get to go on with it.
I don't have advice on what to do, but I do have advice on what not to do. Don't try to slog every ball. ::) I speak from experience of course. :P

I had a similar year, ended the home and away season with an average of 25.1 but didn't make in the 20's all year. 6 scores of 0 to 19 and 5 scores of 32 to 53... I just go out to bat with the attitude "I'm better than these bowlers". Tended to get myself out though through stupid shots >:(
I just try to bat naturally. My favourite shot is the cover drive so if anything comes to me that I can drive, I go for it. I found that trying to bat differently to how I usually would doesn't work very well.
thanks for all your help guys !
My 'coach' of the under 12's told me: "The first move you make is back and across, get the feet moving."
Still heed those words 7 years later. So back foot to off stump every ball and the front foot in the direction you want to hit the ball, depending on where it pitches off course. :D
got the first day of a two day game this weekend, I prefer the 50-over format (two-dayers) as opposed to the 27-over games (one-dayers) as I take time to get in, get set and then get going
My last 2 two-dayers I have scored 50no and 27, so fingers crossed !
Anyone play last man stands?
Its awesome stuff

3 games in the winter cricket comp and I have a golden, a second ball duck and a 1*. Both of the ducks caame off absolute ripper balls that were there to drive and swung late to bowl me. Gotta leave the cover drives alone until your eye is in, exactly as you said. ;)

I had the problem last season. First ball was an absolute gem for me to belt through covers for 4. Of course, things didn't go to plan. I got a massive inside edge onto middle stump
Not really sure if I want to play cricket in term 4, not feeling much love for it ATM. Hopefully the Ashes will get me back into it.
Used to be a middle order batsmen at club and wicketkeeper but now I decided to give club cricket the miss. Just playing school and am a keeper still however have been batting anywhere from opening to number 5.
I've been playing since Kanga cricket.
It's hard to explain what type of batter I am but I'll give it a go. I am definitely not a hack, and never slog it, even deep into my innings. Depending on how I'm feeling i'll either play shots straight from ball 1 or take a while to get going. Love playing aggressive shots yet never in the air, can't really fabricate shots either, don't think I'd be that good at T20. I love to punish the bad balls but struggle to score well against quality bowling. I generally think of myself as a better player when it's a 2 day game however my best innings this/last season (term 1) was when I came in at 5 looking at a hard run chase, opening order collapsed and I got 50* , won the game with a 4 (perfect cut shot) and that 4 also brang up my 50 ;D. It was poor captaining, they just bowled 2 absolute hacks, they were of spinners and got bowle from either end for about 12 overs :o. Loved every minute of it dispatching them with classy shots, anyway now this is turning into a life story, a real area I have trouble with, despite playing since I was a little tacker is Blocking ::) I am a somewhat defensive batter yet I really struggle blocking out ball after ball, usually I just get bowled (which happened the game after i got 50 when I opened, happened to get a quacker :-[ ) anyway, was just wondering if expert blockers or people who are really solid defensively have some tips for me? What do you do to block well, sounds so simple yet even if i am well into an innings i feel very nervous blocking balls on the stumps.
Wow there's a thread for this. I myself am a medium pacer, I like to think of myself as a Glenn McGrath type but showerter, love the swing! I once came second in best bowling, best bowling average and most wickets under age in my league which was shattering, :(
I also bat around 8 for my club.
Here are my blocking tips
-Front foot out towards the pitch of the ball (not just straight down the wicket every time, I learnt this the hard way)
-focus the top hand elbow to be high, almost an extension of the bat handle.
-let the ball hit the bat, (don't reach out to the ball
-keep your eye on the ball (of course)
- lastly be sure to keep the bat nice and close to the front pad, wouldn't want to get bowled through the gate,
If you time it write it can ping off with the right bat, ;)
Good luck
P.S. best figures 5/7 best score 51* same game, :P
" I like to think of myself as a Glenn McGrath type but showerter" hahaha comedy gold ;D

The ones with a strikethrough I got covered...
These tips have made me think of my blocking and I realize that I don't get the foot to the pitch of the ball, I just stick it out in front. I don't exactly reach out to the ball and my bat is right next to my pad, yet way out in front, if that makes sense... I am that nervous about defending I don't even keep my eye on the ball, I just step forward and hope I hit it. Cheers for the advice, I'll need to get down to the nets with the brother and practice, really try to focus on those aspects.
When I'm playing any other shot I do those things fine, foot to the ball, eye on the ball and good technique but when it comes to defense it's a completely different story :P
Most common mode of dismissal for me is either Bowled or LBW, very very rarely caught, never stumped and not ran out often, although I actually get ran out more than caught! ::)
Not sure whether I said this before but my batting was reminiscent of Chris Martin from New Zealand...

Hahaha classic.
Had the first innings of the season on the weekend. Batted for a hell of a long time and as a team we managed about 100 runs in the 30-odd overs that I was at the crease. So you'd expect someone that had been batting that long to get pretty close to a 50 right? Nup, 22 for me, which came all from 1s and 2s :P I reckon I was on 1 for about 8-10 overs, just ridiculous ::)
Anyone got some tips on how to turn the strike over a bit more? I'm feeling alright just gotta learn to push the singles. Any tips?
Oh and, facing spin bowling... Recommend advancing and trying to get to the pitch of the ball or just staying back in the crease? In the nets I'm constantly charging but don't have the balls to do it in a game. So getting bogged down by spinners regularly.
Thoughts? Cheers :)
Gotta love cricket season, where were you batting? and when did you come in?
Early in any innings i like to turn the strike over as much as i possibly can, study the field, where are the fielders the deepest?
If you're really struggling, just mention to your partner to back to a bit extra and tell him you're going to drop it in short and run.
Also with spinners it's crucial you use the crease as much a possible, between a front foot shot and a very deep back foot drop you should be able to mess up their mojo a little bit, Also keep practicing using your footwork, it plays with the spinners mind like crazy if you occasionally come down the pitch and thats when the loose balls appear.
Forgot to add before, hit a 3 through mid-on. So it wasn't all 1s and 2s :P
I came in at 6 on the weekend. Was after we'd lost 3 quick wickets for not many at all. So was looking to play defensive to steady the ship a bit since I had an attacking guy at the other end who was really batting well but I could never really get going. Happy that I got to spend a bit of time at the wicket though to start this season, unlike last year ::)
Just gotta get that mindset to hit it in the gaps and run. Plenty of runs available all the time but its just having the confidence instead of "batting to not get out" which I fall into doing quite a lot.
The pitch didn't seem to have much spin in it so I'm not sure how many overs I'll be getting next week with my leggies but should be interesting :)
scored 12 runs from 2 partnerships.... only role was to get the hitters on strike.... my partners scored 80
Ahh, batting collapses are always the worst, ::) but it feels good when you stay out there for awhile, cut shots were always my go to single or two getter, ;)
Decent effort Cic, gotta love watching a clinic from the non strikers end, ;)
yeah so much nicer than trying to smash my way out of a thrashing
Nothing worse than coming in during the last over of a 20/20 at the non strikers end, running 11 in 5 balls and then getting clean ripped for a duck on the last ball, :-[

Haha that's solid mate, different types of innings are always required at different times of the game so don't beat yourself up that kind of knock can be very handy. Sometimes that type of innings is even more fulfilling. For example on the weekend I went in and worked around for a few overs before notching up a relatively quick 32, 20 of which coming off one over of leggies, before holing out straight down the throat of long on. Fell right into their plan, I would have been much better off going back to turning the strike over as there were plenty of ones to be had with the field back. So a hard worked for 20 odd can be a lot more satisfying than a quick fire 40 or so. Sorry to talk about myself again but another example just popped into my head, a few weeks back in juniors I made one of the worst 50s of all time, with 30 of my runs coming in 6s, my wagon wheel would have been mostly the mid on to square leg region haha. Cow corner yehaaa. That afternoon in seniors I grinded out a 50 off a lot more overs which was a lot more satisfying.
As for turning the strike over speck pretty much nailed it, look where the fielders are deepish/flat footed as there will always be one to them. Another tip, and not many do it at our age really so can really be a pretty handy advantage if you can get it right, is to make sure you keep in mind which hand a few fielders throw with. Point especially, as if they've got any brains they'll put a left armer at point (I do) because the majority of shots will be behind square, spinning towards his left. If they've got a right armer there is a single just behind point every day of the week, left hander be careful.
How you play the spinner really depends on the bowler, what he's doing, what the wickets doing and how confident you feel. If you can pick the length early and get to the pitch of it you are absolutely cruising. Don't charge every ball obviously so just work on facing a lot of spin (both leggies and offies as they often have different flight patterns for every bowler) and pick the length really early.
Best of luck with your cricket Jay, sounding good mate!
If you really want Jay, just let me know when you're playing matches and I'll fly over and play for the opposition... quite ordinary in the field. :P Can throw though, don't mind a run-out. Although, I took a catch once... yeah, just once... in like 7 or so years of cricket. That said, twas a ripper. Batsman top-edged it and it was like a bloody skyscraper... had to wait under it for a while. Had to run a few steps back at the last minute but took it easy on my catch... to everyone's surprise. ;D

If the field is more-so on the off-side, I would try walking across your crease a bit just as the bowler is delivering their ball. Not further than off-stump though. This allows you to work it down to fine leg a lot easier for singles, and also makes it a bit easier to drive as you've already gotten your feet into a good position.
Depending on the quality of the spin bowlers, I would usually advance towards the off-spinners, and stay back against the leg spinners. However, I am left-handed, so if you're right handed, I'd do the opposite. Makes it easier to smash the ball to the leg side :P
Being a spinner myself I prefer batting against spinners.
Unless the spinner is crap I usually just keep my back foot in the crease and just step forward to everything, however sometimes against an off spinner I just step back and hit place everything on the offside like most people do.
How's everyone going so far this season? :)
Played my first game in the seniors yesterday and notched up a 107 run partnership with the skipper. I scored 25 off of 40 overs :P get around that strike rate lol.
Stuff playing, umpires ftw! That is a very nice strike rate you have going there however, wish I had that temperment when I played. :(

Thoughts? Cheers :)
I've never been a big hitter. Never have been, probably never will be. But I can always generally get a single out to cover, point, or third-man.
I often charge spinners in the nets, but I don't have the balls to do it in a game either. If I get bogged down I always just try and find a single to one of those three aforementioned positions. Just wait for the ball to prop up a bit and glide it away. Helps me turn the strike over and build my innings, run by run.
A few of my mates say I'm a bit like Mike Hussey in the way I push singles around ::)
Then when you get a short ball you can easily pull away for a boundary, or hit it hard rather than prod it.
The key is not to lose your cool
I'm in my school's first XI this season. Haven't bowled and have been batting down at 9, 10 and 11 so far, hard to get a look in with the Year 12s we have!
Didn't play this week (cos Year 12s were back from exams) but I batted earlier this season twice, and have made scores of 6no off 4 balls, and 3no off 2 balls .... so I have a 1st XI career strike rate of 150 8)

hahaha, elite, I've never heard of a school's XI, is it just a competition or an actual league?
You've school doesn't have first XI teams for cricket, soccer etc?
Maybe it's more of a private school thing. But basically you just compete against the other schools to see who is the best :)

Yeah....not us as of late :P
Not too sure about the strike rate this year haha don't count the balls but I'll check Mycricket for the scores now
Juniors: 50*, 39, 50
Seniors: 51*, 30*, dnb
School (1st XI like Tom): 23, 26
Bout time to go on with it ay? Haha
Only had a couple games so far this year washed out so I'm pleased, how's everyone else travelling?

Yeah pretty much an intra-schools competition. 1st XI is for cricket and soccer, 1st XVIII is for footy, 1st VIII for rowing, etc, etc
I just got the call my body has been dreading, looks like I'm donning the whites this Saturday for the first time since playing District in Darwin 11 years ago 😳

haha good news mate. just tell them you have a problem with your leg or something. park yourself at first slip.
good luck, here's to a comeback century mate

Had a bit of a break from cricket since winning the bowling trophy for the 16 whites Glenelg district cricket team last season due to mental issues, but put the whites on again on the weekend to play community under 17's, man, I tell you, I missed it so bloody much, got to bowl 1 over at the end, apart from the first ball being hit back over my head for 6 and the next one a close LBW appeal that got turned down, it was great. Theyre coming out the hand really well too, pitching just outside leg and turning back onto an off-stump line with plenty of flight. Good to be back, even if it is in the bottom leagues. 8)
We made 231 off our 40 overs, I came in with two balls to go, 1 not out. Fielded in gully and took two catches to have them 5 for 92 at drinks. We bowled them out for 115 soon after. I didn't bowl but I am feeling the pinch of running to deep third man when the keeper missed a few. Good team effort and a great bunch of lads, fun times.
Post 2morrow after the poppa nap.
Played against brodie smith in a charity t20 today. Nice guy!
Onya Roost! Is that you done for the season? Time to hang up the spikes again?
Talk about feeling the effects.... 128 overs in the field yesterday. Bowled 25 of them. Fair to say little movement was had today on my behalf haha

Doesn't look like it RB, Stereosonic is on here in Adelaide this week and the younger brigade have already bailed, meaning I'm suiting up again this week.
I have to remember to not rock up in my whites otherwise it's another fine.

played my first game for club today (local grade) with a couple of mates
I came in at 2/40, batting at four, and then our opener got out so it was me and my mate both on naught with the score 3/40. He and I put on 89, and he made 66 of them ::) But I managed to chip away with him and then the No. 6 (who made 29 before getting out the ball after me) while I made a pretty slow 27 - creamed a pull shot straight to mid-wicket who took it on the dive. When I got out it was 5/171
Didn't win but it was nice to get some good runs on the board! Haven't really had many opportunities at school level so this was my first innings batting above 9 this summer haha
Does indoor count??
HAvent played outdoor for about 17 years and have started playing indoor this year and am loving it
my season finished this week not back for another month now
Fielding 112 overs in 1 weekend is too much :-X
Halfway through our season so far, my first year captaining and we're currently just out of the top 4 by half a game. I'm also the only batsmen in the team to have made more than 100 runs this season :-\ Hopefully we can get our shower together in the run to finals

Dad's work had a cricket match on today against some other peeps, and I got to play to make up the numbers. First time playing in a few years. It was 25 overs a side, and I had to open the batting as no-one else wanted to. Top scored with 36, with a few boundaries in there. Opened the bowling as well, took 1 wicket off the first over with my good old outswingers to get the edge. Took 2 running catches as well, and a runout. Almost took an absolute sccreamer in the last ball of their innings, fielding at mid wicket and the ball went just over my head, jumped up and back and just got my fingertips to it.
Now my legs are absolutely flowered, but was good to play again :)
Wouldn't mind starting up again this year.

So that means JB I can narrow down who you play for down to 12 teams haha.
Which 12 teams? Lets see if your right :P
Oh wait, I'm assuming your playing under Adelaide Turf (ATCA). If so then there's 6 Limited Overs Grades, and since your playing in a GF next week, you'd be one of the 12 teams that have made it. :P

Nah, I got bullied severely in my high school's cricket program and politics was involved way too much where I played, took out the bowling trophy in all 5 seasons I played but bowled an average of 3 overs a game in a 40 over format. So just gave up.
I hope to one day return though, maybe at Uni for the Adelaide Uni side or something. Ive let my body go since the end of 2 seasons ago and have put on close to 15kg, something Im not proud of, and will be something I have to remedy if I ever want to get back into it. Remember how good it felt to make my first representative squad (got selected in the initial U14 state squad a few years back but getting cut when the final squad was announced) and its those sorts of things I miss dearly, being part of a team

Once you get out of school I'm sure you'll find success at another club mate. Sounds like you got talent you can use.

never played junior cricket. played indoor for years and uncle asked me to play for his team when I was about 14/15, then asked if I wanted to play outdoor with him so went straight into "seniors" I guess you'd call it when I was 16. last game I played I was 18. grand final. last memory I have on a cricket field is looking back at the keeper as he caught me for 1 :(

first game of the season yesterday, made a solid 26 then smoked a lofted drive straight to the man on the boundary at long off! >:(

Got my new stick today. Grant cricket bats. Made by a fella in Victoria, Caleb Grant
First game of cricket for 3 years, batting at number 11
Team was 8/28 until the next pair put on 39 and lasted 25 overs until one of them got out. After we failing to get my partner on strike for the next over I was forced to face. To not look like an idiot I thought I'd block, the ball got between bat and pad and goes through to the wicket keeper. For all that I know I thought the ball hit the stumps and I was walking off until I turned around after taking a few steps. 2nd ball I was told just have a swing. The field come in cause i looked like s spud batsmam, full delivery outside off I hit a cover drive out the middle and the ball smacked a short cover on the wrist (saving 4 not trying to catch it cause he didn't move) I got off strike. Next ball my partner gets out. Opponents chased it down in 23 overs ending up 4/76
At about 6:30 tonight I received a message the guy I hit has a slight fracture in his wrist
Thats my cricket career
did something similar in footy once.
Went to spoil a ball and an opponent came in from the side, so instead of punching the ball I punched (and fractured) his jaw. Broke my hand too hahah.
The junior team I umpired today managed to bowl 20 overs in 54 minutes in the final session. They fell that far behind their over rate they needed to bowl that quickly to finish on time. The overs went 90/4 as well so it wasn't overly poor bowling either.

First practice match for the season with Monash, and my first match since U15s (like 6 years ago).
Anyway, we bowled first. flowering third over, batsman goes for the big cut, gets some edge, skies it over my head at a wide gully-ish position. Running back with the flight, took the catch 8)
Safe to say I was showerting bricks as it was up in the air though haha :P
Came on to bowl later on, first ball went right through the batter, bowled him middle stump 8)
Only bowled the 3 overs (was only 35 overs each), ended up with 1/9.
Took another catch after that as well, and made a couple of #goat stops in the field.
AND THEN WE BATTED. "Collapse" would be an understatement. After about 6 overs, we were 6/13. Yep. 7th wicket put in a small partnership, but then our #8 fell at 7/45. I came in at #9, needing 60 to win from about 23 overs.
60+ run partnership, flowering GOML. I only made like 20, and about 2000 leg byes, but still :P
Was flowering awesome, especially for my first hit in so long :D

Outstanding Davey well done mate.
Nearly as good as my return 2 years ago Wavy.
0/27 off 2 overs
9 runs
2 dropped catches.
Solid 3/10 yesterday with the ball, and a quick 15 or so with the bat after our opener made 103* :o
I was so not expecting to be umpiring games in the highest division at the start of this season. Been given games in A1 for Rounds 1 and 2 at this stage :D
Kinda funny how the matches I have involve the only two A1 sides I have previously umpired, when I completely flowered the game up I had a shocker. Chance at redemption straight away.
Haha nice PB, good luck!
I was picked for our 3rd XI (B-Grade), didn't show up to training, got promoted to 2nd XI (A-Grade). Gonna get absolutely flowered today haha.
Nothing beats making a chirpy opposition spend all day (80 overs) out in the field!
Turns out I got moved down a division, which sucked. But I guess this was where I expected to be umpiring so got to earn my chance at the top division.
Had a good day today, result already achieved inside the 80 over day.
Bowled the other team out for 81, took 3/22 from 9 overs myself. Got the runs with about 14 overs left (45 each)

Yeah 5fer is pretty impressive.
Part of me wishes I still played :( I just play in the umpires match every season now, and my association has no idea how to play so I am the VIP in the team :P
Won by 73 runs. Our #3 and #4 batters both made 50s, got us to a total of 171. Outfield was incredibly slow, otherwise would've probably been 200+
Knocked em over for 98. We dropped at least 10 catches I reckon (however I held on to both of mine, goml). Bowling (entire team) was awesome though, only got the 1 wicket myself, but should've had 4 :-X
20 wickets in my game today! :o Both teams forgot how to bat. First team made a showerty 93/10, they hit about 3 shots along the ground all innings. Then had the home team 1/3 in reply (3 wickets that is). Home team limped home but was all out just before stumps. Next week is gonna be interesting!
Was nice to add 2 more to the wicket tally today, but didn't bowl as well as last week. Was a ripper of a batting deck though so struggled to generate any turn. We did really well to keep them to 200 considering they were 1-100 at tea. We have a strong batting lineup so if we bat sensibly should be able to chase it down comfortably.
Going 2-0 in a tough comp would be a great start for our side! Fingers crossed :)
Good luck Jayballz!
We're currently 3-0, hoping to continue the win streak tomorrow

Losing this game is going to frustrate me for weeks.. Our top order completely failed having us 6-67 when I went in ::) My old man and I managed to put on about 40 and get through a really tough stretch, and had us kinda looking like we were still a shot. Then, they bring on the part-time offie and I manage to blob the ball straight to silly mid-off >:( game over. Feel like if we'd just been able to put on another 30, the guys below could have finished it off. Frustrating game is cricket!
A week and a half ago we lost with 3 balls remaining. I took 1/16 from 6 overs.
Game was washed out on the weekend, just as I got promoted to the 1s :'(
Making my one and likely only appearance for the year this weekend and straight into the As

Went up into A1 this week, got a promotion. Turned down about 10 genuine LBW shouts, gave 1. Not very liked by either side at the moment...
However I did umpire the guy that reads the sport on Channel 10 news here in Adelaide.
And today I umpired Nathan Bassett. Slowly but surely umpiring well known names. Just gotta stop getting the ex-footballers (Ch 10 sports guy Nick Butler played for Port Magpies) and get into the cricketers seeing as that's the sport I'm umpiring!
Umpired my first hattrick today. 2nd wicket was an LBW which the batsman thought he hit. Swear he didn't hit it but it comes 8 days after I gave another batsman out LBW which he reckoned he hit (And I would believe this guy) so maybe I got this one wrong :-\
Ahh well stuff it, Hattrick!

Umpiring the future of SA cricket this week (Under 14 Premier League which is a North, East, South, West and 2 Country teams). We have some good prospects I reckon :)
First ball of my 2nd over, batsman chips it straight to midwicket - dropped. The next ball, wrong'un, pitches on middle and leg, bloke doesn't pick it, goes back and leaves it... Hits him about a third of the way up middle and off with both legs covering the stumps. Umpy says not out. Dude goes on to hit another 20 and we have our score chased down in the 2nd last over, meaning we go from sitting 3rd, to just missing the finals.
Why do we play cricket?

Agreed, we had a season in D grade, where is you dropped an easy catch you had to buy a slab. We had about 5 sitters for the season (About 45 dropped the season before...) and we won the granny. And I was the keeper so I was stressing worse then anyone else, but I only had to buy one slab.

3 players from either country team faced each other in the granny on the weekend. 2 of the PL guys were batsman and 1 I don't really know. However 2 outta 3 of them made ducks. Team batting first all out for 78. Other team 8/75, a quite big unit put one straight up in the air down to mid on, both batsman watching the ball..(idiots) drop catch only ran to get 1. Still plenty of overs left at this point, next ball an absolute ripper cleans up middle stump. Needing 2 to win apparently the number 11 batsman had batted 5 times for the season with a total score of 4. Last ball of the over he tries to block it out gets an inside edge past the keeper for a couple runs to win the final

haha he'd be happy as. stupid batsmen not running would feel like dicks. even the guy who dropped the catch woulda thought he'd lost it. a lot going on there!
First game of the season yesterday after last week's matches got abandoned. Wind was insane, so a big thanks to our captain for having me bowl into it :P
Bowled 5 overs, and went for just the 12 runs (no wickets). Took a diving catch running about 20m or so after the batsman skied one over my head at mid on, so that was pretty ace. Then made 35 with the bat, but we fell 12 runs short :-\
May have injured my calf whilst batting as well :(
Damn unlucky about the calf but that's a pretty good match :o
So I have a little thing that bugs me, and it has to do with batsmen taking guard. Batsmen can ask for one of 5 things (As far as I'm aware). There's Off stump, Middle stump, Leg Stump, Middle-Leg (Between Middle and Leg stumps) and Middle-Off (between Middle and Off stumps). When I give a batsman his guard I always point to the respective stump at my end so he knows I'm doing the same thing as him.
What bugs me though is that some players use the English way of taking guard, and they don't know what they mean. 2 Centres is pretty explanatory, but then there's 2 legs, and 1 leg, which people constantly get mixed up. 2 legs = Middle-Leg, 1 leg = Leg stump. So yesterday I had a bloke ask for 2 legs, and he lined up on Leg stump. I said "you're on leg stump", and he marked the line like that was what he asked. Okay buddy :P Did the same last week except the bloke was an Englishman so he obviously move his bat away from him coz he wanted Middle-Leg ;)
My rant for the day :P
I didn't even know that was a thing haha. alqays said "middle n off" or "middle n leg"
that sounds like a pretty sick catch Davos!
flowerin rain. Been on and off like 7-8 times already.
Last game I umpire a 268 vs 272/9 match, today I get a game that ends 200/9 vs 198/10!
Two crackers back to back :D today though in the 198/10 the number 3 ended 99 not out as the number 11 got out on the 2nd last ball of the game (I don't think he knew he was on 99 though)
Haha fuarkkk, I would've been fuming :P
It was some innings especially with no one else able to stay with him. First innings was similar with an opening bat lasting 48 overs and making 106 being the 7th man out.
Guess what? My junior match today managed to top the senior match from yesterday. Team A makes 156/4 from their overs (Batted slowly probably cost them in the end). Team B coasting at 134/3, I had to take drinks early because the fielding side were getting aggro at each other and just being poor. Both set bats throw their wickets away, and it's 153/5 (still game over right?). 153/6 and I tell the bowler as I take his hat a hattrick would make things interesting. Well I didn't get a hattrick but I did the 3 in the over, 153/9....
Numbers 10 and 11 got the batting side home but wow, from ripping into each other only 5 overs before hand, into almost winning.
Next match is a T20 on Tuesday, safe to say I have high expectations now!
We got knocked over for 125ish today after only 30 odd overs, still had another 15 to go. I had to open in like 34 degree heat cause we were missing both our openers, made 20ish from like the first 5 overs then hit one a bit too well that carried to mid off (almost cleared him, flowering middled it unfortunately :P).
Then we knocked em over for 40ish, and then again for 30ish, to win outright 8)
4/24 with the ball + a catch
30 with the bat
And we lost by 3 runs :(

Got it around September last year for ~$320
Clearly your bat only broke because it's not an unbreakable Clarke Spartan ::)

4/24 with the ball + a catch
30 with the bat
And we lost by 3 runs :(
58 with the bat
1/14 from 6 with the ball (should have been 2 but mid-off dropped an absolute sitter)
And we lost by 5 wickets with a few overs left

Nahhhhh I'm good thanks :P
Last season I made 149 runs from 15 innings, this season 144 from 6 (which included a duck when the game was already over)
In my last game for 2016, a kid made 42 off 249 balls. Batted for 75.4 overs total.
my uncle just called, they're playing Saturday and might be short a player, seeing if I wanted to play. haven't played for nearly 11 years and I'm like double the size now, and I can't run (accident), but we'll see what happens. I probably won't play (like 95% sure) but I'll come along and have a few drinks anyway
So first game back this year (early Jan) I injured my shoulder, missed a good month of cricket which sucked. Returned via a casual T20 our club had going on, made 22 from 7 balls and retired (cause it was just casual). Won comfortably in the end.
Then last week played B Grade, got asked to open the batting and their openers were pretty flowering good. Saw out the first 15 overs, making about 10 runs, then when the first change bowlers came on I flowerin went out haha, so annoying. Took one of the catchers of my career though which was awesome, and we won by 40ish runs.
Then today got promoted to A Grade (probs cause I'm not available tomorrow aha). We were fielding first, and while warming up I was just doing catching practice and stuff cause only had one training session of bowling in the last 6 weeks or so. As we walk out to the middle, captain says I'm opening the bowling. I thought he was joking at first, but nah. Ended up taking 1/20 from 9 overs, should have had 3 wickets though if people could catch. And then after opening for B Grade last week, got put down at #9 to bat. Came in with about 30 or so to win, made 12* (give or take), and we won with 2 wickets in hand. Didn't get to hit the winning runs though :'(
INTO THE GRANNY YEAH BOIIIIIIIIIIIII
good luck Davos! look forward to hearing about your 66* off 42 balls and match winning figures of 5/19
how's the nerves Davos

Different grades play on different days, so that grounds are actually available for teams each weekend :p
So like I've played in A grade and C grade on Saturdays, and B grade on Sundays

ah yep! makes sense. do you get 2 days for the grannie or 3? I
think we got 3 (could be wrong) so it'd be interesting to see if they played Sunday, Saturday and Sunday or 3 Sundays (that would be weird)

ahkay, for us the finals were longer format. well I guess it's not really the longer format cos both teams usually batted once. so it was like 2 one dayers... if that makes sense. each team got a day to bat.. I dunno. thinking about it now it's weird. I only played in a showerty country comp though. and synthetic pitches. I think McIntye (which was above A grade) was turf but not sure
anyway go to bed and get some sleep :P good luck tomorrow
give us the goss 'Vos, how'd you go bro
better have won hun
dammit should've left it

I found the match scorecard by stalking GL through his real name and clicking a few links.
Hard luck mate, looks like he made 19 off 58 balls (dat patience) in 99 minutes at the crease :o couple of nice fours and ended up being stumped! Team got rolled for 97, opposition got there 7 wickets down, horrendous oversight by Dav's captain not to bowl him. He's got 28 career wickets god dammit!

Haha yeah, when you're like 5/30 or thereabouts gotta be very very patient.
For those who can't see the link, just look up monash university in mycricket and go to the 3rd XI grand final scorecard in latest results
I'm gonna guess that the 1st and 6th wicket celebrations were pretty huge judging by the runs on the board at that point.

How flowering shower are losing GFs though
my last memory on a cricket field is looking behind and seeing the keeper take the catch to dismiss me for 1 run in a grand final
that's also the last memory I have before the accident
I think we lost. pretty sure
lost a few indoor grannies... hurts cos we were the best team every time. we won a few as well obviously

My last club cricket game was a losing GF, they were 8 down and needed 10 to win. I was coming on to ball next but they got the runs before I got on. I actually fielded the ball they got the runs off too, pretty shattering. One bloke in our team went ape-shower and snapped the stumps lol
Playing winter cricket this year, starts this Saturday. Had a praccy match on the weekend, took 2 wickets, a catch, and got a runout. Made 28 with the bat, but went out in the last over when we needed another 3 runs for the win :'(
Only against other Monash players though so meh :P
Captain called me last night and said the other 3 Monash captains had asked if I could play for them instead ;D
Just became C of our 2nd XI this week. Unfortunately we play on Sunday, so I can't be VC loopholed :(
nice, congrats Davos. where do you play?

Not that I played cricket but SA have got finals of different t20 cup this weekend. My local team ‘Renmark North’ are playing in the t20 country cup final on Saturday in Adelaide. The 5 games or however many it’s meant to be with some being live streamed is a great idea. Games Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Yep, all at Adelaide Oval too :o Gonna be a nice weekend
Little bit different bit different I guess, but I'm coaching a primary school team now. It's basically like Milo T20 Blast/Kanga cricket which I was a little unfamiliar with before today, so I learned some things too. :P
It's good fun and the kids were pretty willing to listen and learn, plus they played pretty well and won today so things are off to a good start.
What is also kinda interesting is that the inter-school comp they play in is the same one that I played in back in the day, so we're gonna be basically playing all the same schools and stuff which is actually kinda awesome.
