Hey all :)
TRADE SEASON IS OPEN
Trade rules:
- You can't go go go go submit a list lodgement where your total salary is below the minimum cap. If you do, you will lose your first round draft pick in 2022, and also 4 premiership points for the 2022 season.
- You can go over the maximum cap, provided you cut it down in your list lodgement
- Trades can be any combination of players and picks
- You can trade priority picks, picks in the first 5 rounds of the International draft and in the first 4 rounds of the Pre-Season draft.
- Available list spots will be worth 100k each in your cap
- You can't trade a currently retired player.
- You can trade draft picks (unrestricted) until a day out from final AFL list lodgements (date is still being decided)
Start date: After the WXV GF, and once I finalise salary caps and all rules have been voted on and decided
Finish date (players): Monday 22 November 11:59.59pm AEDST
Finish date (picks): Sunday 28 November 11:59.59pm AEDST
In appropriate intervals, I will put trades up for a vote.
List trades as:
Team X trades: Player Y + Pick Z
Team A trades: Player B + Pick C
*then provide reason and/or insight as to why you did the trade*
The other team must then confirm the trade, and also provide a reason and/or insight as to why they did the trade.
Please just list and confirm trades here! All talk should go to this thread:
WXV Trade Confabulation (https://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,114322.0.html)
Trade Voting
Every coach needs to vote, missing 2 votes consecutively will result in A LOSS OF A DRAFT PICK. So have your assistants in order. The first co-coach vote I receive will count, the second co-coach vote I receive will not.
- 0-3 votes is an auto-pass
- 4-5 votes passes the trade with the admin having the power to reject it
- 6-7 votes fails a trade with the admin having the power to pass it
- 8+ votes is an auto-fail.
You have a week to vote! But don't do that. Do it quicker.
I'll also be disclosing/quoting the reasons why you negged the trade (in a rejected trade) to the coaches involved (via PM), but omitting the authors of the negs.
This year, if I'm not satisfied with your reason why you negged the trade, I simply won't count it. If I feel it is out of being petty or the reason just lacks detail, I won't count it. If you feel strongly enough about a trade, the reasons should be apparent enough for you to articulate them into a couple of sentences.
Trade Etiquette
- If a coach trades a player that you inquired about without getting back to you, PM me with a quote of the message, and I will auto-neg it. It is then expected that the coach enter negotiations with an open-mind to the coach it previously didn't get back to, and once resolved, then the trade will be put back on for voting. Come on guys, this isn't hard and I get sick of it happening.
- Complain all you like (except don't) about the decision of a trade, it won't amount to anything. 2018 was the best year yet though, but even then there were complaints I had to deal with. Did they get anywhere? No. Please note how futile your whining is to me. I get so sick of it, that I might just start deleting posts if I feel it will lead to a nasty discussion. I just don't have the time or endurance to put up with it.
- If you have a genuine complaint, please PM me and we'll talk about it.
- FFS, don't complain about a trade decision (publicly). Just don't. Move on.
- YOU WILL NOT CHANGE MY MIND!
International Draft
Date of draft: At the very earliest, the night of the AFL final list lodgment (Monday 29 November). It will commence once all WXV list lodgments have been submitted and processed by me.
Who can you draft: All players drafted in AFL National Draft, unclaimed supplemental period players, priority access signings and delisted WXV players.
If you pass in any pick, you get picks in the Pre-Season draft
Pre-Season Draft
Date of draft: Immediately after International Draft
Who can you draft: All players left over from International Draft, players from the AFL preseason draft, players from the AFL Rookie draft, and any other Misc players (Cat B rookies, etc.)

Trade season is OPEN
Dublin Trade: Dustin Martin + Toby Greene + Jeremy Howe + Jack Gunston + Shannor Hurn
Dillos Trade: Andrew Brayshaw + Patrick Lipinski + Brodie Kemp + National Pick 29 + Jordan Roughead + Jayden Hunt
Reason: Going younger so losing 5 starters which is alot but picking up a young potential captain option in Brayshaw as the centre piece of the package. Lipinski and Kemp are two young talent that i rate and im hoping can crack into good roles in teams 22s over the next few years. The pick is a handy one to take to build out the list and the other guys are there to balance out cap.
Dublin Trade: Dylan Shiel, Dyson Heppell, Nat 11, Anthony McDonald Tippa, Minario Frederick
Jing Trade: Caleb Daniel, Nat 7, Nat 26, Nat 44
Reason: Trading out 3 Essendon players should be reason enough, but this fits my going younger plan loads me up with 1 younger starter a 2nd rounder and a 3rd rounder to take some punts and a pick swap. Frederick and AMT there to help Jing fwd line
Dublin Trade: Rory Sloane, Josh P Kennedy
Berlin Trade: James Harmes + Nat 32
Reason: While Harmes has a much lower ceiling then these guys, its keeping with the plan of going young and adding in the pick to continue with that.

Confirmed.
I wanted more midfield depth, albeit even if for 1 year. If it means giving up some long term, so be it.

Confirmed. Losing Brayshaw is tough whos averaging 107 this year at only 21, however i can cover the midfield and getting two older but quality fwds such as greene and Martin is better for my team, while Holz gets a future captain for his rebuild. Lipinski and Kemp are expendable to me in a premiership push but should are promising youth with kemp finally getting over his injuries troubles and Lipinski likely to find a new home this year, in return I get two older premos (gunston and howe) who have virtually missed over a year each but can hopefully return to some form. Then Hurn for N29, we know he wants to play on but WC have put his contract talks on hold till the end of the year. Roughhead and Hunt are good depth but mainly helpful for cap reasons.
Christchurch trade: Isaac Quaynor + Deven Robertson
Cape Town trade: Sam Menegola + NAT 12
Reasoning: Need some more midfield firepower, have the depth to cover the loss down back.

Confirmed. Tough decision to make, but Mills loses def for 2022, Mayne retired who i was banking on filling the void somewhat, and LMac may lose def as well. Have mids coming out of my ass, so Menegoat could be moved. Like IQ and think he can ne a solid defender for me, and loved what Dev did for the Lions this year and adds a young mid to what was a retirement home of sorts a few hours ago.
[This trade is based on the assumption that trade 2 passes]
Beijing Trade: Dan Houston + NAT 11 + Chayce Jones
Moscow Trade: Stephen Coniglio + Tom Hawkins + Future 2nd Round Pick
Reason: Selling low on Houston? Probably, but looking medium term I feel this is a good move for us. We lose a starting defender/mid(?) and a first round pick, but in return get the services of Coniglio who I'm confident can put 2021 behind him, as well as Tom Porkins who is hitting the best form of his life these last few years. Hard to part with Tassie boy Chayce Jones from the infamous Mundy trade, but a future 2nd balances the trade out, and I don't mind a bit of gambling!
Torp/Jukes to confirm.

New York trade: Andrew McGrath + Izak Rankine + NAT 19
Dublin trade: Caleb Daniel + NAT 30
Dublin are going down the youth track and needed another young gun mid, and I've got mids to spare and am wanting to bolster my backline
Rankine and the picks make up for the def/mid/avg differences and balance it out nicely

Confirm, Caleb is way better then Mcgrath but im going younger and the 2 extra pieces could have some nice upside.
New York trade: Jade Gresham + Fischer McAsey + Conor Stone + N9
Cairo trade: Bailey Dale + N22 + N40
Did not think I would be trading Bailey Dale and it wasn't a decision I made lightly given he's now a 90+ def but with a mostly old and injury-prone starting midfield and terrorised by the memories of OOP mids, Gresh makes sense as a young mid (potentially m/f) acquisition. Fisch makes sense as a nice cuff to Worrell and I'm a big wrap for Stone who could settle either end for GWS but also acts as a cuff for Finlayson. N9 either helps draft a decent young mid or is a nice on-trade asset if the opportunity arises. Other picks for balance.

As the main bones of the trade it's Gresh + 9 for Dale, but as Nige said the other parts are all quite valuable for both sides too and balance it all out nicely

Berlin trade: Patrick Cripps, Logan McDonald + Future 2nd round pick
Seoul trade: Luke Jackson, Darcy Fogarty + Mexico City Future 3rd round pick
I charge the ruck premium price, then I pay the ruck premium price.
I acknowledge this is quite a bit to pay for Jackson (something I famously said I wouldn't do when he got drafted). But have you seen this guy play?
This completes my ruck set, which is important to me. I honestly think Jackson picks up where Gawn will leave off once he retires, and average a ridiculous amount. My whole team in the past few years has risen and fallen with Gawn, so this trade secures my future, the way I see it!
Cripps and Logan have the potential to really hurt me. But again, the price is worth paying, considering it will secure my future. Just look at what Darcy has done for Christchurch, and what Gawn does for me.
Seoul get another big mid, which rounds them out, and a long term venture in Logan to replace Jacko.

Confirm
Reason: Continuing to go younger. Matty just entering his prime but I'm not in contender mode so don't want that wasted. I lose my captain but rate Smith highly, he certainly had some third year blues but hoping its just that and he can push on an improve from his fantastic second year.

Confirmed. Both players were excess to my needs in the short-term, so willing to let them join the Beijing flag pursuit.
Dublin Trade: Brad Crouch
NY Trade: Will Phillips
Reason: Keep going younger, Brad is my favourite non North player but I'm getting number 29 from North. I think Phillips will take a while but im prepared to wait. For NY he gets a premo mid with many years left.

Was really torn on whether I should do this or not. Phillips being last years Pick 1 in the WXV draft, and having been rated so highly as a junior besides Rowell and Anderson, I'm quite confident he is going to be a future gun, but I'm looking to finally start competing next year, so I'm biting the bullet and doing this
Dublin Trade: Dustin Martin + Toby Greene + Jeremy Howe + Jack Gunston + Shannon Hurn
Dillos Trade: Andrew Brayshaw + National Pick 10 + Patrick Lipinski + Brodie Kemp + + Jordan Roughead + Jayden Hunt
Reason: On the feedback of coaches Pick 29 has been moved up to pick 10 which is major upgrade. Kemp went pick 13 a few years ago and now fully recovered from the the injury which slipped him back rate him a top 10 pick so thats 2 top 10 picks which is very handy. Lipinski looking set to move clubs and if he does i think he will be a good utility. A captain is the key to a rebuild and Brayshaw is on track to be a 115+ mid, Cerra moving and Fyfe injured and old its about to be his Club.

Cairo trade: N9, N58 + 2022 Future 2nd
Mexico City trade: Jordan Clark, Riley Collier-Dawkins + Noah Balta
Mids are tuff to acquire sometimes, and when you've been terrorised by OOP mids, you have to go in and fix it somehow. I was always looking to on-trade 9 for mids if possible but the fail-safe option was to draft one if it didn't work out - but it did! Clark and RCD are two well-rated kids, both have shown scoring potential, just need the opportunity. My hard on for Balta is difficult to conceal and he scores well enough to sure up D4 with Dale out the door.
Marlon Brando to confirm.

Been hassling me since I got the team for RCD. Clark been frustrating. Needs a fresh start, so I could lose this one big. But i back myself in with pick 9
Cairo trade: Oleg Markov + Tom Sparrow
Berlin trade: Tom J Lynch, Sam Frost + Daniel Lloyd
My love for both Leggy and Sparrow are very well known, but Purps has reliably informed me that TJ was not a cultural fit in Germany and demanded a move back to Egypt. Understandable if you ask me. I also desperately need the forward because Josh Bruce's ACL had its own plans. Lloyd is a nice cuff to the recently acquired Stone and the wimp that is Finlayson. Frosty adds some B22 insurance to my defensive stocks should I need him in a pinch, plus who doesn't enjoy watching his brand of chaosball?
Purps to confirm.

To elaborate
Daicos obviously had a disappointing year compared to 2020, but should pick up F status. Forwards don't exactly grow on trees, especially ones that have proven that 80+ is doable. Gresham has had a very injury prone few years, but we think is a solid 80+ option for us moving forward, Pick given to balance.
Dublin Trade: Dustin Martin + Toby Greene + Shannon Hurn
Dillos Trade: Andrew Brayshaw + Brodie Kemp + Pick 29 + Jordan Roughead + Jayden Hunt
Reason: Taking us back to the original trade the comments where mainly around Dublin Giving up 4 Solid Starters with years left plus Hurn with 1 left for 1 starter alibiet a superstar and youth. So based on this we have removed Jack Gunston and Jeremy Howe so the 4 starters is reduced to just 2 moving. So it is 2 older starters for 1 young starter + young talented kid. Then Hurn 29 Roughy Hunt added in at the end.
I have built my list out to have multiple young good mids but what im missing is a young captain option and Brayshaw is that. Only 21 years old and already a 107 average.
Brodie Kemp went pick 13 2 year ago (in a better draft) and that was with the knowledge that he had just done his ACL and he was a long time prospect. He is currently being trained as a intercept defender but the long term scope is that he can develop into a mid which is why he was so highly touted. His last 2 games before getting injured as a junior he averaged 22 disposals, 13 contested possessions, four clearances and 1.5 goals as a mid. Considering he went pick 13 while injured in a better draft id rate him a low end top 10 pick.
While im not that big a fan of the top 15 of this draft, what i do like is the 15-35 range and getting another pick in this range gives me a nice selection of picks. There are alotf of nice picks in the 20s so the more i get the higher chance i get to hit.
Roughead and Hunt give me cap so give me the flexibility of moving on some of my leftover old starters so that can add more youth to my side. Obviously both are not huge pieces but they have some value and certainly mean I can extract more value out of other players and both are some of my better bench options. Roughhead averages 72 so is actually handy depth based on his average he would be a D5.

Dublin Trade: Jeremy Howe + Dane Rampe + Pick 19
Jing Trade: Jake Lever + Jing Future 2nd
Reason: moving on 2 older starters for a Lever who at 25 broke out to have a premo year at 90+. While He might pull back abit I'm hoping he can push out a 80-85+ from here on to really flesh out my defence.
The pick swap balances out the rest and still leaves me with multiple picks in the 20-35 range .

Dublin Trade: Jack Gunston + Jing's Future 2nd
Seoul Trade: Lachlan Fogarty + Jed Bews + Levi Casboult
Gunston still under 30 (just) and after a tough year is on track for a good preseason and some more valuable fwd starter years. Fogarty is a bit of a mixed bag he has games where he pushed up the ground and shows a high ceiling with 90 96 and 163!!! and these were games were he racked the ball up not just kicked a bunch of goals (only 2 in those 3 games), but he has mainly been a pressure forward putting up 50-70.
Bews casboult mainly for cap, understand Casboult was delisted but GC is showing interest and Cas was just added in for free pretty much as was going to be delisted.
Jings Future 2nd is to balance it out, Jing has a nice list for next year so should be a mid to late 2nd.

Christchurch trade: Harry McKay

There's a bit of uncertainty around Lippa, but it seems like he will likely request a trade to get more opportunities so I'm willing to take a shot on him, with the assurance of also getting N10 should it not go to plan, while BA get a proven def starter in Doedee and N22 to balance it out nicely

We both agreed that Darling is probably worth a late 1st rounder, so getting 34 back, as well as the security of Jack being contracted til 2025 was enough for me to part with such a high pick
Dublin Trade: Dublin (aka. Todd Goldstein) + Pick 66
PNL Trade: Marc PIEttonet + Trent Cotchin + Pick 33 + Jack Nelson
Reason: This is the signal of a full rebuild with 6 time Best and Fairest winner Goldy on the search for another premiership medal. With the deal I get Pitto who was a 85 average ruck before going down injured and another pick in that sweet spot of 25-35. Nelson had a really good season in 2020 with a 74 average so hoping he can bounce back abit to be a solid D4 or cover. Cotch certainly helps out with cap and given the rebuilding nature of Dublin he is actually a 20 point increase in who i currently have at U2 so a 85 from Pitto and a 75 from Cotch will match Goldy + my current U2.

Confirmed: Pittonet done us proud in that trade from last year and only 25 so should continue on while TDK takes a couple more seasons to develop
nelson handy player if he can bounce back still think he will be good
Cotchin not needed after mid reinforcements added and a waste of him to leave as a reserve player for PNL when clearly decent enough to play at teams
but going for a flag and happy to take 1-2 years from goldy in search of said flag

New York trade: Brad Crouch + Kyle Langford + Nat 40
Rio trade: Nat Fyfe + Brad Close + Nat 42
Just before Fyfe missed the last few games of the season it was reported he was short of hitting the 35% required to get F, so he's a 100avg mid this year. Langford will also likely lose F too, so it's an older 100 mid + 65 fwd for 2 90 younger mids
Seeing as I have a fair bit of mid depth and and lacklustre forward line, happy to part with 2 starting mids for a better one and decent F3/F4 type, whilst Rio was looking to boost their mid numbers which they do here

Trade period is closed.
Trade Period 2 is OPEN
Rules:
- Where previously this was strictly 1 for 1, 2 for 2 movements etc, you now have some flexibility! Provided that you STAY WITHIN THE CAP AT ALL TIMES, your list size can be between 43-44 (44 being the max number of players on a WXV list atm), allowing you to do 1 for 2 or 2 for 1 deals, etc.
- If you started the trade period below the cap, then you are only permitted to do trades that increase or maintain your overall salary cap.
- You are permitted FOUR LIST MOVEMENTS. A list movement is defined as the trading out of a player. If you trade 1 player and get 2 back, this counts as 1 movement for you, and 2 movements for the other team.
- On-trading a player ALSO counts as a list movement. If I trade Cale Morton for Jimmy Toumpas, then Jimmy Toumpas for Jordan Gysberts, I haven't made one list movement, I've made two (1 for trading out Morton, 1 for trading out Toumpas). Again, movements are defined as the trading out of a player.
- You are still able to trade future picks from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds. Each pick you trade out counts as a list movement. Provided that your current list remains at 43 or 44 players, you are only restricted by your number of list movements (e.g. you can hypothetically trade out 4 future round draft picks in exchange for 1 player, provided that the other team formerly had 44 players, and you had 43 players)
- I rule on all trades in this period (except for ones I'm involved in). These decisions are final.
- Trade Period closes 11.59.59pm AEDST on the day before the first AFL pre-season match (March 2nd)

The recently announced player positions left me with a surplus of mids, and thus an opportunity to address my aging mid profile. I was hoping WHE would retain fwd status which is why I'm after Cripps, and DBJ also gives me another medium term prospect in defense.
Overall the trade addresses my list balance in terms of age profile and position.
RD to confirm

Confirmed
I've got heaps of forwards now so even though Cripps is a likely starter for me, getting Sloane into my midfield was more important. DBJ is much younger and has history of being a 80+ def, so it balances it all out and helps both sides

At the end of the day, any personal beliefs about the short, medium, or long-term potential of the players involved is secondary to the fact this addresses needs for both coaches as they have stated. As a judge of trades, I'm typically a fan of supplying the rope and letting coaches deal with the consequence of the moves they make if they don't work out, so while each coach may have their own view on who is winning, ultimately it's not an inherently broken trade and therefore passed.
Approved.
In case anyone missed some context here, Purps asks me to adjudicate on any trades he makes during TP2 as typically he alone rules on trades and therefore can't do so on his own.
Christchurch trade: Brent Daniels
Toronto trade: Tom Phillips
Reasoning: Trying to be more like Rio, one midget punt at a time.
Ryno to confirm.

Confirmed. As has been mentioned a few times, I was counting on Rowan Marshall receiving DPP this season and that did not eventuate. Brent Daniels is not the most fantasy-relevant guy but he is a best 22 forward and that will have to be sufficient.

Approved. Current and expected averages, combined with position differences and age makes it a fairly straightforward trade.
Colin O'Riordan for Jroo
Holz to confirm
Further fwd depth doesnt hurt given how unreliable/unpredictable some of my fwds
Beijing trade: Charlie Dean
Toronto trade: Patrick Ryder
We need another ruck in case Grundy goes down again, Ryder fills that hole for a year and will hopefully play a good amount of games, while Toronto pick up Dean who is a good young KPD prospect. Both players are under injury clouds too which is neat.

Confirmed. Ryder was essentially an excess utility this year and I am not expecting him to play on past the conclusion of this season. Thus, I'm willing to punt on the younger player who, by all reports, will likely get his chance at AFL level this season at some stage.

confirmed. Jroo is old and Roids killed it in the VFL before getting a injury. Was in the Swans elimination final team so hoping he cracks a spot in the 22. Plus missed Roids at Dublin
Nothing like 2 challenging trades to deliberate to close the season.
Trade 73
Buenos Aires trade: Colin O'Riordan
Dublin trade: Jack Riewoldt
Trade 74
Beijing trade: Charlie Dean
Toronto trade: Patrick Ryder
Both of these trades have the same characteristic. What is the worth of a player whom in all likelihood has only 1 more year?
Patrick Ryder, together with his valuable RUC status, averaged 83 last year and will probably safely put that up again you'd think. But, you'd suspect Roma plays more than 13 games this year, and they also did bring in Tom Campbell. Whilst I think he will play and score well, I don't think he necessarily demands compelling compensation. Charlie Dean, PSD Pick 7 last year... by all reports was on track for Round 1, and played in Collingwood's practice match. How many draftees are on that trajectory? All I'm trying to say is that his worth is already more than PSD Pick 7, and given he is 20yo and with every opportunity to play many games for Collingwood, I think there is enough potential there to *just* bridge this gap for me.
Trade 74 passes
Now, I really agonised about Trade 73.
I suspect there is an optimism that Riods will play now given Dawson is out. But I researched Riods... he played all year, had a strong VFL year sure, but when he played he scored poorly. He is 26, and just seems destined to be a VFL player, and almost proud of it. I searched and searched and searched for potential here, and I just don't see it, not enough to bridge the gap. Riewoldt is worth more, even if he does average just 70.
Trade 73 rejected
Buenos Aires and Dublin have 48 hours to re-negotiate if they wish.
Ultimately, it came down to potential of the younger player in these 2 trades. Riods is too much of a known quantity, with little upside to improve. Whilst Dean, I think, has sufficient upside to bridge the gap.
Trade period is now closed to all
