Post by: Pokerface on March 04, 2020, 12:25:03 PM
Their bye is becoming a standalone bye in round 11... Houston, we have a problem  :'(

In fact with Roberton gone as well for round 11, I think Houston has to be off the table.

The longer this pre season goes the further I’m moving from Houston and the closer I’m getting to Dawson. I am also running with Roberton and this just pushes me further in this direction.

Don't think I'll be scared off a player because of 1 game half way through the season if Houston or Roberton play well in their 2nd Marsh game they are in.

+1

I'm even looking at not starting Roberton. If I do start him, I doubt he will be good enough for Top 10 and will need to be upgraded anyway so I'd do that before this bye

Just having Houston miss that week isn't a problem

Roberton is a bit iffy with his heart problems I hope all goes well for him but not sure when they crank up to home and away his heart issues won't surface again lets see how he goes this weekend.

TBH I'm not really worried about that - I just think in general, with their current side, he won't be a 90+ def

That backline has a different look to what it did several years ago when he was scoring well

Will be a nice stepping stone still, so not ruling him out by any means, but I'm not locked on him by any stretch either

You should bring him in rnd 12, one more game than everybody else. I don’t mind him missing 1 game, it’s just like a one week injury and makes the real bye rounds that much easier to deal with.

Damn, there goes Houston from my team! I'll hold onto Robbo though since I only see him as a stepping stone opposed to a keeper.

Well that week is the week I plan to be cashing a couple of fat rooks and converting to a prem defender and emerging rook

I have no fear!

Remind me ... How many players do we need to field each week

[/quote Is best 18 but suspect Rd 11 will be as usual with 22 as has been the case previously.

Yeah round 11 will be standard 22. If Robbo becomes a keeper (certainly not impossible) I still think its pretty hard to start both him and Houston. Although the dpp could come in handy. Can't think of any Port/Saints mids I'd be looking at.

Is there any confirmation of how this will actually work? AFL website has the game listed as Rd 11 even though the date is during Rd 12. I think we need some explanation of how the scoring will work from the rule makers before any adjustments are made. Link if this exist please

AFL website is a piece of crap now - doesn't show stats, haven't updated this change etc

As far as I can tell they were originally playing in Round 11 and having their bye in Round 12, and now it's been switched around - they have their bye in Round 11 and play Round 12

As they will be the only two teams having a bye in Round 11 it's business as usual for SC - 22 starters on field

Round 12 will now have 2 less teams (Port/STK) having a bye, so just Brisbane, Essendon, Geelong and WCE have a bye that week

I agree Raisy. Its gone from being one of the most stable informative websites to a complete mess. Hopefully they get it back on track.

Likely what you say is how it's going to play out, looking for Herald Sun to give some confirmation much like they did when the Phil Walsh game was was moved. Sure this will come out before the start of the season if it hadn't already.

I know this link is just Fantasy not SC, but they've tended to follow each other around bye operations. I'd be working on this assumption for now unless further info comes out

Yeah cheers, did read it. Not sure this is definitive though, it's written by Warnie and although he's probably in the loop as far as I know he has nothing to do with the running of the competition, they are more glorified players, he didn't list any reference so may be assuming like the rest of us. Also like you have said the competitions are generally pretty parallel although they've diverged over recent years in many rules.

My assumption is the same but I would like them to confirm it. If you've got 200,000 people entering a competition its pretty easy to send out an official clarification when something abnormal happens that could cause confusion, especially when there's time to do it before the kick off

Yeah that's a fair call Belegur, I agree. The Point Scoring section in the Help page at SC still says 'CLUB BYES AND 'BEST 18' SCORING IN 2020 There will be three rounds (12, 13 & 14) in 2020 where six teams respectively will have a bye in each round.' etc
