National Draft:
Pick 2: Noah Anderson (Mid) Gold Coast Suns
Pick 5: Sam Flanders (Mid/Fwd) Gold Coast Suns
Pick 14: Liam Henry (Mid/Fwd) Fremantle Dockers
Pick 17: Finn Maginness (Mid) Hawthorn Hawks
Pick 26: Fischer McAsey (Def) Adelaide Crows
After bringing in N5 and N17 in the trade period, Dallas walked into the National Draft with 5 picks in the top 26, as well as two picks in the top 5. In a very deep and balanced draft, this was the opportunity to acquire a group of talented prospects.
With pick 2 Dallas selected Noah Anderson from the Suns to no one's surprise, with Rowell going at pick one. While we have a plethora of young mids, Anderson was too good a player to miss out on.
With pick 5, Dallas selected Sam Flanders, also from the Suns. A very talented mid/forward type, he should help out our forward stocks, and should get game time in the near future.
Down the order, new Docker Liam Henry was selected with pick 14. The best small forward in the draft, he adds to our forward line, and will find his way into Freo's 22 soon enough.
And at pick 17, Father/Son Hawk Finn Maginness finds himself with the Coyotes. Another excellent midfielder, he knows how to find the ball, and dominated the combine tests to boot. The only question is when he gets a game at the Hawks.
And at pick 26, Dallas' final pick at the draft, Dallas selected Fischer McAsey from the Crows. Perhaps a questionable decision, given he is a key position player, but he's by far the best KPP in the draft, and will add to our defence stocks nicely.
Rookie Draft:
Pick 2: Sydney Stack (Def) Richmond Tigers
Pick 14: Sam Gray (Fwd) Sydney Swans
Pick 17: Noah Answerth (Def) Brisbane Lions
Pick 26: Tyson Stengle (Fwd) Adelaide Crows
A decent hand in a rookie draft filled with talent was in all honesty not full capitalised on by Dallas. While Sydney Stack , who we grabbed with pick 2 is sure to be a brilliant player, the other selections could have been better. Perhaps the biggest regret we have is picking Sam Gray with pick 14, and missing out on Mitch Lewis. Noah Answerth (pick 17) should develop nicely, and Tyson Stengle at pick 26 could end up being a steal. But a pretty average performance in the Rookie Draft for Dallas.

2020/2021 Drafts and Trade Period
Trade Period 1:
In:
Players: Milo, Ed Langdon, Marty Hore, Will Setterfield, Isaac Cumming
Picks: RD 4
Out:
Players: Jack Ross, Matt Taberner, Brent Daniels, Lochie O'Brien
Picks: NAT 1, NAT 31
----------------------------------------------
Trade 1.
Dallas trade: Jack Ross
Los Angeles trade: Milo
Trade 2.
Dallas trade: Matt Taberner + Brent Daniels
Los Angeles trade: Ed Langdon + Marty Hore
Trade 3.
Dallas trade: NAT 1 + NAT 31 + Lochie O'Brien
El Paso trade: RD 4 + Will Setterfield + Isaac Cumming
In the first trade period I set out a few goals:
1. Get Milo
2. Get another solid midfielder
3. Get another early rookie pick
4. See what I can get for pick 1 in a trade
I think I accomplished all of these goals pretty well. I got Mihocek fairly easy, though at the cost of one of our young mids. Guadajalra was after forwards and had a surplus of mids, so a deal between us was natural, trading an older forward in Taberner, as well as a younger forward in Daniels, for a very solid young mid in Langdon, and Marty Hore, who will hopefully return in 2021. Lastly, I traded N1, N31 and Lochie O'Brien for Setterfield, Cumming and RD 4. Losing N1 is big, but N31 and LOB were surplus to our needs, and I think we were healthily compensated with Setterfield, already a gun, Cumming, who can establish himself in the GWS defence, and RD4, getting access to another great talent in the strong rookie pool.
The Redraft:
Bolivia and Roswell had been dissolved with the resignations of their coaches, Pk and LF. As such, the remaining teams voted on a dissolved teams redraft, with an initial reverse ladder order for the first rounds, and then finish with a snake order. As such, Dallas entered with picks 1, 11, 21, 40, 41, 60 and 61. Both Bolivia and Roswell possessed strong lists, and this served as a great opportunity to add some great young talent to Dallas.
Pick 1: Clayton Oliver (Mid) Melbourne Demons 23yo
Pick 11: Tim English (Ruck) Western Bulldogs 23yo
Pick 21: Wayne Milera (Def) Adelaide Crows 23yo
Pick 40: Tom Doedee (Def) Adelaide Crows 24yo
Pick 41: Patrick Lipinski (Mid) Western Bulldogs 22yo
Pick 60: Cam Zurhaar (Fwd) North Melbourne 22yo
Pick 61: Jake Waterman (Fwd) West Coast Eagles 22yo
At pick 1 we took Clayton Oliver. A certified fantasy gun, consistently up at the top of the rankings, and he's just 23 which is right in our age demographic. Lloyd, Gawn and Neale are all the best in their positions, but Oliver was the best fit for us.
We took Tim English at pick 11, since there are not many good young rucks around in the AFL, and English is already establishing himself as a gun ruck at just 23. We already have several rucks, like Nank and Pitto, but English will be our long term #1 option.
At pick 21, we addressed the need for a good defender to support Mills down back, and selected Wayne Milera. He's posied to breakout on that HBF he's been accustomed too for the last couple seasons. Missed most of the year with a foot injury, so hoping he's good to go in 2021.
After a long wait, we selected a pretty big slider in Tom Doedee at pick 40. I love Doods, and was ecstatic to see he was still available. He provides more support down back, and finishes our defence, aside from our planned pick at RD 1. Hoping he gets his body right next season.
Another slider was snapped up at pick 41 in Pat Lipinski. A victim of Bevo's magnets, Lippa is in an interesting position. Regardless, a great young talent, and hard to pass up. Just have to hope Bevo is nice to him.
To finish off the draft, we went with two young forwards who should prove handy in the future, in Cam Zurhaar and Jake Waterman, at picks 60 and 61. Not setting the world on fire, but can score well on their day.
I'm very pleased with our haul in the redraft. We assessed the needs of our list, aside from perhaps the forward line, and brought in 7 great players, 5 of which are guns. Hopefully our National Draft performance is as good.
National Draft:
After trading away the coveted #1 pick as well as #31 to secure several good pieces, Dallas walked into the draft with only picks 11 and 21. A very different story to this time last year. The goal was to secure some good midfield talent, as the redraft had shored up our defence, and drafting forwards is a minefield.
Pick 11: Erroll Gulden (Mid) Sydney Swans
Pick 21: Alex Davies (Mid) Gold Coast Suns
We selected Erroll Gulden at pick 11, a highly touted Sydney Swans Academy prospect drawing comparisons to Andrew Gaff. Gulden is a ball magnet, and should establish himself on a wing in a few seasons for the Swans.
Our second and final pick was Alex Davies at 21. A very highly rated player, though could get stuck in the Suns' midfield logjam. Hopefully he doesn't and shows the form that got him rated so highly.
Rookie Draft:
The rookie draft pool this year was arguably stronger than last years. There were at least 10 players I rated highly, though there were a clear top 5. Walking in with RD 1, RD 4 and RD 11, I was set to gain several talented players.
Pick 1: Damon Greaves (Def) Hawthorn Hawks
Pick 4: Jake Riccardi (Fwd) GWS Giants
Pick 11: Malachy Carruthers (Def) Sydney Swans
Damon Greaves was the clear standout for us, with a stunning 70 average in his games this year. A bit of a bolter, who I didn't notice until a couple of weeks before the draft. He finishes off our defence, and has it looking in great shape for 2021.
I was pleased to see that Jake Riccardi had made it to pick 4, and he was an easy selection, bolstering our forward line. A key forward, but still a good scorer, and showed plenty of talent this year.
Lastly, with no real needs at our final pick, we selected Malachy Carruthers. A promising attacking half back at the Swans, who collects plenty of the pill, and has a great name to boot. He will bolster our defensive depth and hopefully break into the Swans line-up.
Free Agency:
Free Agency was introduced this season, giving coaches the opportunity to clean up their lists after the drafts, as well as avoid being stuck with players that have retired and been delisted on their lists after the initial deadline.
Free Agency move 1:
Tyson Stengle ---> Dylan Moore (Fwd) Hawthorn Hawks
Stengle was again caught up in off field drama, and with the arrival of Rowe, his spot in the Crows line-up is suspect, so getting to move him on for Moore, who is a promising forward was a no-brainer.
Trade Period 2:
Malachy Carruthers :-*
But the real question is, where are the photos of all these new recruits?
