2019 marks the 9th year of the elxam comp!
On Father's Day 2010, fanfooty user elxam (the username is his name Max Le in reverse) tragically passed away....he was a father. He was fantastic person and contributor to the site and is still missed. This competition is named in his honour and has seen many of FF's finest coaches vying for the various honours up for grabs over a number of years.

If you want to be involved in this comp, you must have coach status on FF by having posted a 1000 times or more in counted sections.
How's it work?
Each coach enters into the Elxam Group. The top 16 ranked coaches based on overall points with the last 4 rounds of the year to go will play off in elimination finals to determine who is the Elxam Winner for the year.
Additionally there is also a Knock-Out Cup Competition, a State-of-Origin competition, the m0nty medal and a Champions League.
What is the Champions League?
The Elxam Champions League is filled with the most successful coaches from last year, and they play for the Champions Trophy.

How do I make the Champions League?
To qualify for the 2020 champions League, you need to do one of these things:
- Finish in the top 8 of the 2019 Champions League.
- Finish 9th in the 2019 Champions League (post finals)
- Make the Final 4 in the Overall Competition (Elxam group)...qualify Top 16 in the group then win two Head to Head matches.
- Be the Knock-Out Cup Champion (Elxam group)... Sudden Death Head to Head fixture.
- Win the premiership in the other 2019 Elxam leagues. (Challengers and Fanatics)
- Remaining spots filled based on where you finished on the points ladder in the Elxam Group at the end of the 2019 season

I will need a coach in Champs to create the FF ELXAM CHAMPIONS league, another to create the FF ELXAM CHALLENGERS league and I will create the FF ELXAM FANATICS league if it appears we are a goer on that situation....should happen/fingers crossed.

Next year I'm not even going to bother with the expressions of interest. It's something I carried on from when Ossie ran the comp before me. It's not needed really unless people require a pm to remind them in the new year.

Just to explain the above... if the top seeds win through then this week their combined rankings equal 33... if one lost to a lower ranked team, they don't because the lower ranked team has taken their place which opens the draw up a bit for the top seeds, which are based on R1 rankings.

State of Origin Squads
Keep the SOO nominations coming in.
Cut off time for SC Elxam coaches to enter/nominate is the start of R15. If coaches aren't nominated by then too bad, they will be set and finalised for the duration of the SOO comp. No additional nominations/entries will be accepted for the later weeks.
Comp is going to happen over 3 rounds, namely R15, R16 and R17. (Post-bye rounds)
Rounds 15 and 16 will be qualifying rounds. Total points over the two rounds will determine the final.
Round 17 will be the final... contested between the top two states based on combined team points over R15&16.
Based on the current nominations I have decided to organise this year's State Of Origin Competition with 4 states as has been the case for the last couple of years.... VIC COUNTRY, VIC CITY, SA and ALL STARS (everyone else- QLD, NSW, WA & TAS)
Captains will be highest ranked coaches after R14 and they will choose their team of 5 each week and post their coach selections in this thread prior to the first game of the relevant rounds. Should the Captain be a slack arse (e.g. NMF) the VC of the state can select the state team in their place.
R15 Qualifying... 5 coaches combined pts.
R16 Qualifying... 5 coaches combined pts.
R17 Final... (Top 2 SOO teams on combined total points over R15 & 16 play off for the title)... 5 coaches combined pts.

sometimes we forget we associate with the elite of sc. just checked my r13 result and instead of dropping a couple of hundred spots ended up gaining 432 in overall. lost 4 and won 3 of my ff league games this week. against elxam coaches though it will be difficult to stay in top 16

I knew it wasn’t gonna happen but the running joke is me being part of the team without officially being part of the team in roles such as water boy or cutting the oranges. However, this year I’m actually doing the best I ever have and just got myself into the top 16 in Elxam so figured I was a cheeky chance.
Still a proud Vic City member though so I can live vicariously as I have the past however many years hahaha.
So yes RD, I’m extremely upset because my life literally has zero meaning now and I hate everyone and everything because I didn’t get picked to represent Vic City in Elxam.

Just a reminder to everyone Top 16 is sorted at the conclusion of R19... so two weeks to qualify for Top16finals... just like SC finals.
The final four will book their place for Elxam Champs 2020.

Bad luck Pete. Nige beat him in their Top 16 head to head so he’s beatable 1 to 1.
For the most part Holz’s team and mine are the same. Yet he smokes me by about 100 pts every week.
Holz’s POD - Sicily, Rich, BCrouch, Billings.
Mine - Duursma, Blakely, Cunnington and Daniel.
He’s definitely got me covered but if I do play him in the Fanatics final (we’re both through to the preliminary finals with this week off) I’m hopeful my PODs will choose the right time to fire.
Even our benches are similar with both having: J Cameron, D Clarke, Logue and Bines.
My team has been finished for weeks yet he’s ranked in the top 100 and I’m languishing at 3k.
Comes down to timing and the odd player you started with I suppose.

We were discussing in Discord recently possible changes to Elxam joining criteria moving forward - something that I think should be discussed here
Another change I'd be happy to see is that Admin (You) are automatically in each year. Admin is a selfless and time consuming task - the least we can do is ensure you are at least participating
Just like the keeper leagues (XV) we have on this site, the admin of each league also runs a team so I see this no different
Just in terms of joining criteria moving forward, as I said this was briefly discussed in Discord recently and a few of us seemed to agree that the qualifying criteria for Elxam needs to be changed
I believe that Overall ranking is what drives Elxam - the best of the best - not just who beats who on any given random week
Here is my proposal
- Admin
- Top 4 on the ladder from regular season maintain spot for following year
- Winner of Elxam Finals (Could be a 5th person if the winner comes from outside the Top 4)
- KO Cup Winner
- Elimination Winner
- The rest are the highest ranked overall not already in the above
The current system makes it very hard for new teams to get in, and keeps teams who had poor/average season in, so I think some tweaks need to be made and the above is just a suggestion

I know exactly where you're coming from, iv'e been there. When it starts to feel like a chore and it does, rather than something enjoyable it's time to walk away. I went on a year longer than I should of and half a dozen rounds into that season I was asking myself why did you go around again dopey. It was hard getting to it each week and just got harder and harder. There was twinges of guilt also because you know people are going to be disappointed and then there's Max the reason it exists in the 1st place.
You feel every bit of that and no doubt in my mind you'd be feeling some of that.
Don't do that to yourself, because you've done a fair effort and you should be content with that, You
did your bit and like you said hopefully someone else will pick it up and run with it, if not then so be it mate.
Thanks for ALL your efforts over the journey, you did a great job. ;)
Agree with all of that RD.
Everyone who wants to can have some input into how it's run and set up
and we move forward like that. Nothing is or should set in stone regarding it.
With enzedder retiring now's the perfect time to modernise it.
What RD has suggested is a great platform to start and build on
as ideas come in.
Yes I like an idea which rewards the previous season from an overall perspective more than just being lucky while in the Champs League. Maybe not cut to top 4 but maybe we can cut to top 6 first (After finals/Before finals, whichever), and see how that looks for a season, before going straight to 4.
I don't think I was part of said discord discussion but as someone that looks like finishing 8th overall in Elxam yet I think I'll miss out on a spot back in Champs League, I do feel a little hard done by.

8th overall should be in
If:
- Nige wins Fanatics Final
- D-Mac wins Challengers Final
- Then there's 4 spots to overall finishers which will be Holz, RD, Torp and Rusty.
Last season 11th spot was the last position to get in based on overall. In 2017 we got down to 15th place, and 2016 we went down to 12th place.
So it just seems like this year has the potential where we only drop to 7th, however if Holz and Rusty take out the finals they are in, then it will drop to 9th.

Congrats to those who have made it to Champs 2020.
I'll update/finalise the league status and honorboard as details come to hand. Without being in the Champs I can't access and do anything else atm. Nearly midnight here in NZ and work in the morning so off to bed in a minute.
Hopefully we can run 3 leagues again next year.
Champs then Challengers and Fanatics as we did this year based on rankings.
With that done in the next couple of days you can all fight over how the SC Elxam Comp will run moving forward and who will oversee it as this is it for me.
I'll be happy to set up the Challengers league as no doubt my 24th place in total points will see me sit smack in the middle of that... but that's about the extent of what I'm prepared to offer.

As was discussed here regarding changes to update the rules surrounding Elxam SC, myself and Mr C have suggested
the same in the other Elxam comps.
The coach that runs it get's a spot in Champions League automatically.
Need to open them up to new blood, hard to get a 1000 posts if you only
play AF the boards are dead. DT is quiet they need change more than SC
but all 3 need a freshen up. I'm happy to throw my 2 cents worth in
wherever it's discussed. i'll get on. Those ideas could be handy in the other
comps also.

I'll update/finalise the league status and honorboard as details come to hand. Without being in the Champs I can't access and do anything else atm. Nearly midnight here in NZ and work in the morning so off to bed in a minute.
Hopefully we can run 3 leagues again next year.
Champs then Challengers and Fanatics as we did this year based on rankings.
With that done in the next couple of days you can all fight over how the SC Elxam Comp will run moving forward and who will oversee it as this is it for me.
I'll be happy to set up the Challengers league as no doubt my 24th place in total points will see me sit smack in the middle of that... but that's about the extent of what I'm prepared to offer.
