Title: Port Off-Season 2018 Thread
Post by: Koop on August 31, 2018, 12:31:21 AM
So, not the end to the year that any of us wanted.

Polec looks all but set to join North Melbourne, rumour being Joe Atley as well in the same deal.

What do we get in return? First rounder surely?

Preuss/Lycett? Will we land either?

Outside run/class now that Polec is all but gone? Wingard can't do all the lifting. Amon is showere & Johnson no better. Could we see Watts moved up to the wing for his elite disposal? Could we target an out-of-favour runner from elsewhere? Jayden Hunt perhaps?

Do you guys see Ryder, Lycett, Dixon and Hoff all playing together?

Surely Hinkley gave Lycett assurances he would be playing every week

I don't think they'd be giving Lycett a 5 year 3 million dollar deal to be sitting in the SANFL :P

Ryder when fit is only behind Gawn as the best tap ruckman in the comp. So he plays.

Dixon is still our best key forward, he plays.

What's Hoff got to do with it? He's a utility ;)

Todd Marshall and Jack Watts though...

I'd say this will be a transitional process, but this is definitely the end goal. Ryder is going to need extensive management from here on out for the rest of his career.

Agree with PB however, if Watts isn't moved to the wing I'd say only one of him/Marshall will play week in week out.

Can we all just marvel at Hoff for a moment though. What a season he had, caps it off with the Best and Fairest. Club legend 8)

Hoff is the man,  just keeps getting the job done.   I watch him play and seems more like a hawk than a port player.

Depth is lacking though

I don’t think Rankine will be available come pick 5. Word is that the suns will take 2 south Australians with picks 2 and 3, to reduce the chance of them getting homesick

With Rankine lighting up the combine you would assume he will be one of them

Don't think Port will be that unhappy with Smith if GC take the two besties (Lukosius & Rozee) at 2 & 3 and Adelaide trade for Rankine. Gives us burst out of the middle.

Aren’t Lukosius and Rankine the besties, with Rozee behind them just

At 185cm and 71kgs Rozee might be a bit on the scrawny side to play AFL next year where Rankine they say is ready to go and read somewhere him and Lukosius are mates as well but don't discount either SA clubs throwing the kitchen sink at GC for 2 or 3

Gold Coast can expect lots of contact from the SA sides about the 2 or 3 pick. It would wanna be good for them to accept though. Being a Qlder I would be disappointed if they parted ways with one easily

afl.com.au has this as our 22

B: Darcy Byrne-Jones, Tom Clurey, Ryan Burton
HB: Hamish Hartlett, Tom Jonas, Dan Houston
C: Steven Motlop, Ollie Wines, Justin Westhoff
HF: Travis Boak, Todd Marshall, Sam Gray
F: Scott Lycett, Charlie Dixon, Robbie Gray
FOLL: Paddy Ryder, Tom Rockliff, Brad Ebert
I/C: Joe Atley, Dougal Howard, Sam Powell-Pepper, Jack Watts

Not sure how Atley made the bench, would certainly slot in Farrell or Mayes over him. Watts may be pushed out for #5 selection, Lienert unlucky & would expect him to feature heavily over the year. Todd is a good call, he's the future & I would expect him to start in our 22, or at least fairly close to it. Very intelligent footballer.

B: Darcy Byrne-Jones, Tom Clurey, Dougal Howard
HB: Dan Houston, Tom Jonas, Ryan Burton
C: Brad Ebert, Sam Powell-Pepper, Hamish Hartlett
HF: Travis Boak, Scott Lycett, Justin Westhoff
F: Sam Gray, Charlie Dixon, Robbie Gray
R: Paddy Ryder, Ollie Wines, Tom Rockliff
I: Steven Motlop, Kane Farrell/Sam Mayes, Todd Marshall, #5

That'd be mine

Depth

KPD: N/A
Gen Def/HBF: Jarrod Lienert, Riley Bonner, Matthew Broadbent, Joel Garner
Inside Mid: Joe Atley
Balanced Mid: Willem Drew
Outside Mid: Karl Amon, Jake Patmore
Gen Fwd/HFF: Other of Farrell/Mayes, Aidyn Johnson,
KPF: Watts (or whatever the flower he is)
Ruck: Billy Frampton, Sam Hayes

Our depth is shot.

Unsigned: Dom Barry, Cameron Hewett, Peter Ladhams, Trent McKenzie, Jake Neade, Will Snelling, Jack Trengove

Draft Picks: #5, #10, #15, #85

From that list, I've got no idea who's getting another year.

Pretty please don't give Neade another contract!  :-X

The team that afl.com.au is too tall and just named the "names" in our 22. Bonner will play, surely.

PORT ADELAIDE has farewelled forward Jake Neade and midfielders Dom Barry and Will Snelling after informing them that their contracts would not be renewed for 2019.

The Power has also made another change to its list with rookie Dan Houston being upgraded to the senior list.
