Title: World Idol 2018

Everybody's favourite knockout competition is back!

To quote the great former admin - ossie85, here's how it works:

Welcome back to World Idol! The 2018 season has started and we're back to dash the hopes of 17 teams yet again! Anyway, y'all know how this works, so let's get to the good stuff.

In a new initiative for 2018, to uphold the true spirit of the Idol name, each departing team will receive a song dedication on their way out.

Round 1

There are many great honours in life and some of us just aren't fortunate enough to experience them. One of the things on that list is winning World Idol and this may come as no surprise to literally anyone when I say Mexico City are the first team bowing out in 2018.

For Mexico City's sad farewell which is only the beginning of a year of pain, we've chosen Simple Minds' Don't You (Forget About Me) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdqoNKCCt7A).

Ha, wow haha.

And Beijing was so close to being eliminated, which would have had many Idol hopefuls happy.

Round 2

It was a pretty awful week for one particular team. And if memory serves correctly, a similar week last season produced the same result. If they ever want to be in the running for World Idol, something has to change at London or they're just making up the numbers.

As they exit the competition as a result of a series of paltry scores, given the players had only score double digits, we bid them farewell with a song with a double digit figure in the title, and that could be used as a metaphor for their now dashed Idol hopes. Here you go London, here's 50 Ways to Say Goodbye by Train (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSBFehvLJDc).

Round 3

Unfortunately for Buenos Aires the end of the line has come. The had two decent weeks by their standards, even reaping rising star nominations, nobody really elevated to the heights needed to help them stay in this competition.

It's an emotional goodbye to a team that most people probably have nothing against, so a heartfelt goodbye like Coldplay's The Scientist (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RB-RcX5DS5A) seems fitting for this tear-jerking occasion.

Round 4

They may or may not be rapt with lasting this long, but it's finally time to say au revoir to the lovely folk at PNL who were pretty comfortably the worst of the teams still battling it out for Idol glory.

As they fade out of this prestigious competition, we send them off with Sarah McLachlan's I Will Remember You (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSz16ngdsG0).

Round 5

A dramatic turn of events has seen a World Idol first! Two teams have shared the lowest score of the week of the remaining teams for the first time in this competition's history. The powers that be here at World Idol have made the executive decision to eliminate both Cape Town and New York which changes the game. As a result, World Idol will finish a week earlier than usual.

To bid these two teams farewell, we used the song titled with that exact word, here's some Farewell by Rihanna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MOiwCMn30k).

Round 6

Last round had an unseen twist, so it's hard to follow up something so unexpected, but one team has found a way. Once upon a time people feared when they said the Russians are coming, and now everyone waves goodbye as Moscow are going right out the World Idol door.

We'll give them something a little different, with Macy Gray's I Try (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEQ0l_m3Xm0) as they exit Idol for 2018.

Round 7

This week we say goodbye to the men from Brazil as Rio exit World Idol on the back of a fairly underwhelming effort. With this elimination, we now have our top 10 for 2018.

However, before we get to that, we dedicate a lovely tune to Rio and it's called One More Day by Diamond Rio (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xi8O7JdA4Sg).

Cairo

Dublin
Seoul
Beijing
Christchurch
Pacific
Berlin
Toronto

Round 8

We have a prophet amongst us!

Quote from: Ricochet on May 09, 2018, 01:40:56 PM
Dublin will get knocked out this weekend

It's true. It happened. They often say the bigger they are, the harder they fall. The coach will brush this off as nothing, but World Idol is serious business, and Dublin have just been terminated.

As per usual, a song to say goodbye to yet another team is absolutely necessary. So this week, we throwback to an absolute classic from way back in the form of Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye by Steam (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsaTElBljOE).

Round 9

This week we say sayonara to Tokyo who have been impressive in their efforts this year, especially hanging around in this competition so long, a very commendable effort by a team that often does things without much fanfare.

Being the Japanese team, we here at World Idol felt that it would be fitting to send off Tokyo with a song called SAYONARA by Aries (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqY8Nx8wTM4).

Whilst I'm aware I'm incurring the wrath of the fantasy gods when I say this, I usually last pretty well in this comp, even the years I don't make finals.

Honestly, I don't see how I get eliminated this year  ;)

A little reminder of the teams remaining:

Cairo
New Delhi
Seoul
Beijing
Christchurch
Pacific
Berlin
Toronto

With the exception of Cairo, you'd expect the rest of these teams to make the top 8 of the ladder at the end of the season.

Basically all the competition heavyweights are still in play, which means it's gonna be dog eat dog from here on out.

Round 10

Did the suspense kill anyone? Probably not. But you know what is dead? Any chance New Delhi have of World Idol glory as they are eliminated off an effort the coaches would not be happy with.

Their exit song is sad but also a banger and who doesn't love that? Here it is, Without You - David Guetta ft Usher (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUe8uoKdHao).

Round 11

Wasn't a great week for this team, losing one of their defenders to a season ending injury. Of course I'm talking about Jake Lever, which is kind of fitting because Berlin are leaving Idol for 2018.

This is more a dedication from the competition to the admin than it is a tune for the departing team, but nevertheless, our offering is P!nk's Please Don't Leave Me (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eocCPDxKq1o).

Round 12

We could mourn the loss of Cairo or celebrate that they made the final 6 which is as equally ridiculous as it is impressive.

The only way to commemorate this event is bye posting one of the Cairo co-coach's favourite songs as sending them out of Idol with Bye Bye Bye by N*SYNC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo-KmOd3i7s).

Round 13

World Idol can be a cruel mistress. Especially now that we're at the pointy end. Dumped from Idol this week is Seoul, who really haven't had the season they were hoping after their dominant 2017.

As always, we send our eliminated team off with a tune, a goodbye anthem of sorts. The people want variety, so we change tone a little with this classic - Leave (Get Out) by JoJo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggWyUEuGcWY).

4 teams left, who wins?

Here at World Idol, we're no strangers to rubbing salt in the wound, which is exactly we're about do in saying farewell to Christchurch who had an awful round.

It's probably on fair to send a team that went out with a whimper with a tune that they probably won't even like, so here is Goodbye to a World by Porter Robinson (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2TE0DjdNqI).

Did the admin curse the chances of Beijing You decide. Regardless, they picked a terrible week to put in a shocker as they sensationally bombed out of Idol in third place.

Beijing's departure means we only have two songs left to dedicate, and it wouldn't be fair to leave out a classic like Goodbye Cruel World by Pink Floyd (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxCUyy_aVzA).
