The Kate Upton Cobras Best and Fairest for 2017 will be presented soon!
The Cobras Best and Fairest award runs with a 5-4-3-2-1 polling system, with the highest scoring player for each round polling 5 votes, 2nd highest polling 4 votes, etc etc. If players are tied equal 2nd (for example), then the votes will be split, and they would (in this example) receive 3.5 votes each.
Other awards to be presented will be the Best New Player, the Best Individual Performance, the Coaches Award, the Karen award, and the prestigious Kate Upton award.
The count will begin shortly. Who will win? Will anyone surprise high up the votes tally?
Round 1:
5 - Josh P Kennedy
4 - Touk Miller
3 - Dion Prestia
2 - Toby Nankervis
1 - Lachie Hunter
Round 2:
5 - Toby Nankervis
4 - Josh P Kennedy
3 - Touk Miller
2 - Dion Prestia
1 - Lachie Hunter
Round 3:
5 - Touk Miller
3.5 - Josh P Kennedy
3.5 - Toby Nankervis
1.5 - Blake Acres
1.5 - Dean Kent
JPK, Touk, and Nank all polling in each of the first 3 games, with Dion and Hunter polling in the first two as well. Blacres gets on the board, and some Dees Kent manages to poll as well.
Best New Player 2017
There were a couple of players new to the club who performed well this year, but there was one young small forward who delivered well beyond expectations, averaging a tick over 90 for the season a few games after returning from injury that delayed his Cobras debut.
Congratulations to Tommy Papley!
Papley was originally brought in as a depth forward in case of injury, but quickly became our #1 forward picked each week at the selection table. Get around the Papsmear!

Round 4:
5 - Josh P Kennedy
4 - Dion Prestia
3 - Jasper Pittard

2.5 - Callum Mills

Round 6:

4.5 - Josh P Kennedy
3 - Jasper Pittard
2 - Luke McDonald
1 - Touk Miller
JPK continues to poll in every single game, and Nank fails to poll for the first time in Round 6. Garner has a huge game in Round 6, showing some of the potential that the Cobras coaching staff sees in him.
Leaderboard after Round 6:
23 - Josh P Kennedy
17.5 - Toby Nankervis
13 - Touk Miller
9 - Dion Prestia
6 - Jasper Pittard
5 - Blake Acres
4.5 - Taylor Garner
4 - Mark Blicavs

2 - Lachie Hunter, Luke McDonald
1.5 - Dean Kent
Best Individual Performance 2017
This award goes to the player who posted the highest individual score in the WXVs Home and Away season for 2017. They must have been selected to play that week as well.
With a score of 137 in Round 14, congratulations Mark Blicavs!
A bit of a slow start to the season, but Blicavs really got going eventually, becoming one of the more reliable midfielders in our lineup. Unfortunately got injured towards the end of the year though.
Round 7:
5 - Lachie Hunter
4 - Blake Acres
3 - Luke McDonald
2 - Kayne Turner
1 - Touk Miller
Round 8:
5 - Josh P Kennedy
4 - Jasper Pittard
3 - Toby Nankervis
2 - Callum Mills
1 - Lachie Hunter
Round 9:
5 - Josh P Kennedy
4 - Toby Nankervis
3 - Blake Acres
2 - Tom Papley
1 - Callum Mills
Turner and the Papsmear get on the board, while JPK and Nank continue to dominate. Blacres also coming along nicely.
Coaches Award 2017
There were a number of players who put their hand up to receive this award. Luke McDonald stepped up in defence when Pittard and Mills didn't meet expectations early on. Papley, Garner, and Blacres all performed well up forward. Ainsworth was very impressive as one of our top draftees in the off-season, but missed a number of games due to injury. But there was one player who was kept on our list just because he made up our ruck set. He became the #1 ruck, and absolutely killed it throughout the majority of the year, exceeding expectations dramatically. He is the man, the myth, the legend. He is Toby Nankervis!

The power of Nank!

2 - Toby Nankervis
1 - Lachie Hunter
Round 12:
5 - Mark Blicavs
4 - Josh P Kennedy
3 - Lachie Hunter
2 - Callum Mills
1 - Touk Miller
Blicavs and Papley really started to hit some form here. But again, JPK just showing his dominance and is streets ahead of everyone else now.
Leaderboard after Round 12:
45 - Josh P Kennedy
26.5 - Toby Nankervis
15 - Touk Miller
13 - Dion Prestia
12 - Mark Blicavs, Lachie Hunter, Blake Acres
10 - Jasper Pittard
9 - Tom Papley, Luke McDonald
7.5 - Callum Mills
4.5 - Taylor Garner
2 - Kayne Turner
1.5 - Dean Kent
1 - Darcy Lang
Karen Award 2017
What is the Karen award, I hear some of you ask. Well, my dear friends, colleagues, associates, and Nige, the Karen award is presented to the most disappointing player for the year.
Unfortunately, there were a couple players who dropped off a bit this season. And it hurts me that the winner this year is someone who I think has so much potential to be an elite midfielder of the competition. That player, of course, is the human meatball himself, Dion Prestia!
Congratulations?
Round 13:
5 - Kieren Jack
4 - Toby Nankervis
3 - Josh P Kennedy
2 - Lachie Hunter
1 - Ben Ainsworth
Round 14:
5 - Mark Blicavs
4 - Kieren Jack
3 - Tom Papley
1.5 - Luke McDonald
1.5 - Jasper Pittard
Round 15:
5 - Kieren Jack
4 - Tom Papley
3 - Jake Carlisle
2 - Josh P Kennedy
1 - Toby Nankervis
Kieren Jack suddenly hits form shortly after returning from injury, polling 14/15 votes in these 3 games, clear evidence of his ability to be a top 2 forward next season alongside the Papsmear. Benny Ainsworth gets his first B&F vote in a Rising Star nomination performance. D/F utility Jakey Carlisle also gets his first votes for the club.

No Purps, we actually take these things seriously at the Cobras smh
2017 Results
Round 1 - Cobras Strike through Thunder Clouds
New coach GoLions has started his tenure with a bang; notching up a great win against peer Beijing. The Thunder could pin a lot of the blame on last men Taylor & Thurlow combining for just 86, but it was strength of the Nank that prevailed for the Cobras.
Cape Town Cobras (22.11.143) def Beijing Thunder (21.7.133)
Round 2 - Spetsnaz take Hiss out of Cobras
Ugh. Pretty ordinary game, and aside from the win, Moscow wouldn't be to thrilled about performing like this two weeks in a row. Cobras also disappointed after such promise last week.
Moscow Spetsnaz (18.11.119) def Cape Town Cobras (16.10.106)
Round 3 - Dublin Demolish Cape Town
Yeah, OK then Holz. You have the best midfield in the comp, even if Goldstein was your HGA. Meanwhile GL is a lucky Kent to have Dean.
Dublin Destroyers (27.6.168) def Cape Town Cobras (21.7.133)
Round 4 - PNL make it Rain...deers
PNL have been building up to this, and have to be commended for turning things around in the aisle of doubts. The Cobras continue their up and down season.
Cape Town Cobras (19.7.121) lost to PNL Reindeers (21.11.137)
Round 5 - Cairo break the Cobra-duck
It was heated, it was grind, it was a Cairo victory. The Sands' leaders stepped up, whilst JPK needed to do better for the Cobras. Cairo get their first ever win against Cape Town!
Cairo Sands (20.7.127) def Cape Town Cobras (19.8.122)
Round 6 - The Suns Great Escape
Gee, the Cobras had this game totally under control, but they just needed SOMEONE to stand up and score a century! Their midfielders should be ashamed. Meanwhile, the Suns continue to win and worry at the same time.
Cape Town Cobras (19.8.122) lost to Mexico City Suns (20.6.126)
Round 7 - Cobras strangle Royals
It was a low scoring affair that was in doubt for most of the match. But you can't afford to have a player score 17 if you wanna win too many games. That, and Hunter was the difference
Cape Town Cobras (20.7.127) def London Royals (18.7.115)
Round 8 - Brewers spike Cobra Venom
It was a lot closer in my head, but Berlin won reasonably comfortably with players standing up when they were called upon. Cape Town just needed more outside of Pittard & JPK
Berlin Brewers (21.10.136) def Cape Town Cobras (19.9.123)
Round 9 - Islanders leave Cape Town Stranded
This was an opportunity gone begging for Cape Town to claim a genuine scalp. If their bottom 3 players doubled their score to respectable ones, they would have won. Meanwhile, Tom Mitchell was incredible in the win for Pacific, but he's no Pendlebury.
Pacific Islanders (20.11.131) def Cape Town Cobras (18.9.117)
Round 10 - Cobras crack Dillos
Tex Walker did it again :-X

Round 11 - Ab-Seoul-ut-tion
BAM! I called them out, and they delivered. Seoul takes home the highest score of the year, whilst Cape Town certainly don't.
Seoul Magpies (27.9.171) def Cape Town Cobras (18.10.118)
Round 12 - Cobras Constrict Revolution
Big upset here! Jelwood getting subbed out of the game just rubbed salt into the fact the Revolution copped three 30 or less scores in their XV, whilst the Cobra midfield FINALLY looked like their 2015-2016 selves.
Cape Town Cobras (21.6.132) def New York Revolution (18.10.118)
Round 13 - Cape Town run over Rio
Well! This was an upset! Slowly but surely, the Cape Town mids are starting to fire and as such, the Cobras can once again start to compete and win again. The Jags were just too inconsistent across the board in the end, with only half of the team really doing anything.
Rio de Janeiro Jaguars (21.11.137) lost to Cape Town Cobras (22.9.141)
Round 14 - Tigers Turn Up Heat Against Cobras
A lot of quality on show by New Delhi in this one, reflected by a Mullett ton coming in for Howe. Not a lot Cape Town could do, especially when JPK was a late out.
Cape Town Cobras (18.10.118) lost to New Delhi Tigers (24.11.155)
Round 15 - Wolves withstand Cape Town Challenge
This Witherden ey? Kinda makes up for Pendles in a way. Cobras at least in a patch of respectable form, but needed more from it's midfield to topple Toronto
Toronto Wolves (22.9.141) def Cape Town Cobras (21.7.133)
Round 16 - Cape Town inflict Christchurch Crisis
Well! This was a thriller! Decided upon HGA in the end, but it didn't need to be if Blakely remained captain :-X a damaging game for Christchurch, but amazingly, it's still not impossible to make finals. Well done to the maligned Hunter & Blicavs
Cape Town Cobras (20.11.131) def Christchurch Saints (20.10.130)
Round 17 - Samurai make winning a priority
Good for you Tokyo! As a melbourne supporter, I can attest that playing for draft picks only fosters a poisonous culture and that winning is ALWAYS better. The Cobras would be disappointed at ending the season on the low. For now, we say goodbye to you both, and look forward to seeing you next year!

HUGE DEVELOPMENT!
GoLions has been found to have zero relationship to Kate Upton at all! Not even friends! In fact Kate Upton has never once been affiliated with Cape Town ever!(https://i.imgur.com/a3xD2gS.png)
We have a leaked screenshot of GoLion's Twitter profile. He we can see that GL has been blocked by Kate! Clearly GL is just a fangirl who wanted to get Kate's attention too hard.(https://i.imgur.com/K4l2GQU.png)
We managed to get an EXCLUSIVE interview with Kate and here is what she said:(https://i.imgur.com/yTerYUj.png)
Well you can't argue with that!
Hey champs, what has 2 thumbs and is bored as flower?
GoLions, BnF coming up.

Best New Player 2018
Once again, there were a couple of players new to the club this year following the trade and draft periods, but one of our mids put in a career best season, averaging just short of 100 (and coincidentally looks just short of 100 as well).
Congratulations to Ben Cunnington!
Cunnington was originally brought in as a downgrade in the trade that saw JPK leave the Cobras, and performed much better than expected, which was made even better when JPK ended up scoring at basically the exact same average for the year!

Coaches Award 2018
One of the most coveted awards of WXVs is the Cobras Coaches Award, and this winner could not be more deserving. Some people award sheer scoring power, others award those guys trying their guts out just to be good enough to play. Some may even award a new recruit who they feel goes unnoticed, and deserves recognition for it. This year, our award will go to a man who was truthful to himself. He could have coasted along, playing in the reserves all year, forever knows as an average man. But he showed courage. He showed strength. He showed honesty. That man, my friends, is none other than Ben Griffiths!

Karen Award 2018
The Karen award is presented to the most disappointing player for the year.
This player had a really good 2017, finishing quite high in the best and fairest, but dropped off by a long way in 2018 when he was expected to take that final step towards premium status. Here's hoping that 2019 bears a lot more points than what this year did. The winner of the Karen Award is Luke McDonald!

Kate Upton Award 2018

The Kate Upton award is presented to the best looking player.
This one was really tight this year, with Griffin Logue trying to back up his performance from last year, but facing some stiff competition. In the end, it came down to him and two others, and the winner of this highly prestigious award is Neighbours star celebrity Jack Bowes!

Congratulations to Gryan Miers!

Coaches Award 2019
his was a tough one, with a number of players either showing significant improvement, or surprising a bit from nowhere this year. Ben Cunnington was fantastic across the first half of the season, but dropped off over the last month or two. Jaidyn Stephenson was averaging 80+, but I wouldn't bet on him to take the award after a certain incident not too long ago. Chris Mayne was taken at N75 in the draft, and was on fire early before dropping off. Josh Battle was fantastic with a move to defence, averaging 75 minus his injury game of 4 points. And The Schlong held down R1 admirably whilst Nank was injured.
But just pipping these guys, Gryan Miers takes out Kate's Coaches Award for 2019. Traded for with N74, I expected Gryan to get a couple games here and there, and probably average around the 50 mark early on in his career, but he has averaged almost 70, holding down a spot up forward for Kate most of the year, and his finishing around goal is incredible to watch!

Karen Award 2019
The Karen award is presented to the most disappointing player for the year.
This one wasn't too hard to pick this year. In the off-seaosn, we targeted some experienced players to help out the younger guys. One of them was a defender, and hadn't averaged under 80 since 2006. He managed to average under 50 during the H&A season this year, along with missing a fair few with injury, suspension, and just crap form.
The winner of the Karen Award for 2019 is Jordan Lewis!

Note to self: Don't play any Dees players, they're all spuds.

Disappointing is Cape Town's African Cup record since you took over.

Best and Fairest 2019
That went down to the very last round, with the difference as close as the Lions/Cats game yesterday! I would now like to officially announce the winner of the Cobras Best and Fairest award for 2019. Congratulations to Ben Cunnington, finishing with a total 48.5 votes, edging out Duncan by the smallest of margins on 47.5 votes, who was unable to go back to back BnF wins.

What a finish! Fun fact, Duncan won it last year with 48.5 votes as well :o
On an unrelated note, Stepho has just been seen storming out, not looking too happy. The words "rigged" and "flowering bullshower" were heard as he left the building...
