Title: NBL 2018/2019 season thread continuation
Post by: jvalles69 on October 03, 2016, 02:54:23 PM
Thought I'd start a new thread considering the season starts this week! Will be back on the Cats to go back to back, but it's going to be tough with some solid competition and an increase in 3 imports per team.  I have no doubt the entertainment at the Perth Arena is going to be at its highest this year with 3 high flying Americans in the team, and hopefully they can all gel quickly enough to vie for finals again.

If anyone is keen to join Real DT NBL here is the league code: 281712

Do either of you guys know where I can find a match centre for every game that was played last season? Like say I want to look at the specific match stats from a particular game, where can I find that? (I've been looking and been unable to find anything!!)

It's actually pretty ridiculous to find much stuff on NBL, I was researching my DT today and couldn't find a whole lot.  I know theres a stats section on the nbl.com.au website, but not sure if it covers last season...it also is the poorest design for a website and just seems to shower itself on different systems. Good luck!

It should be easier this year.  They are re-releasing NBL TV.  It supposed to be only $5 or $10 a month (I can't remember which amount).

It will give you access to all games this season and its supposed to give you access to history games as far back as 1979

I will try and find the article

Edit: It's only $5 per month and here is the article

Yeah it does have that player stats section, which gives a little bit I guess. The games have to accessible somewhere because last week from the app I was able to view them all, but once Saturday came around I couldn't go into last season >:(

A guy on DT Talk puts an article out once a week, can be fairly cookie cutter teams.  Base it on his articles and go through the stats for the 4 Blitz rounds is what I did to make my team.  First article here.

No probs, basically this is the only help that comes out during the year for NBL DT, so apart from watching games you're pretty in the dark, especially if someone gets injured, you don't normally know about it until its too late!

Beal and Jervis suiting up against their old club, could start of a modern day rivalry which has been missing from the NBL aexcept for maybe Perth and Adelaide and Perth and NZ. Everyone hates Perth, lol!

Is Fox still showing all games this season like last?

Perth (Grace, Vlahov, Crawford, Fisher) had a fairly solid rivalry with Melbourne Tiges (Gaze, Copeland, Bradtke, Simmons) too, but yeah that Adeladie one has carried on.

Good to see Brisbane back in, but Crocs gone now I see.  We need some of the old school teams back, Geelong Supercats, Canberra Cannons, North Melbourne Giants, West Sydney Razorbacks, Melbourne Dragons...Melbourne Tigers for god sake, none of this United crap!  Seems like the NBL will push to move into Asia again, think there was the Singapore Slingers not long ago, maybe one other?

Fox Sports 3 is showing tonights game live at 4.30pm WA time.

Thats true, it put bums in seats and along with James Ennis got people excited about the NBL again.  Problem for Sydney is they are trying to get big name players to to sell tickets before getting players that can help them win the title, Perth and NZ have done that very well over the years.

Well I'm a bit worried now after last nights game.  Beal killed us, and unless Prather picks his game up we don't really have a finisher any more since losing Beal.  :-\

Jameel McKay was an absolute beast, had some killer low post moves and was just super efficient.

Jaron Johnson was another story, has this guy seen a basketball before in his life?!?

Brisbane got it together in the 2nd half, and they did all this without Bairstow in the lineup!  Also, how Petrie can get a new contract each year is beyond me, the guy is terrible and has been for several years!

Typical Dollar Beal game.  Does nothing in the 1st half and then goes crazy in the 2nd half (in this game - just the 3rd quarter).

Title: Re: NBL 2016/2017 season thread
Post by: jvalles69 on October 09, 2016, 10:36:58 PM
Cats redeemed their season opening loss last night.  First 3 qtrs were arguably the mot boring basketball I have ever seen in my life, but the final 2mins made up for the rest of the game, boy oh boy!  If you didn't get to see the game make sure you watch it from the 4th qtr for an unbelievable finish.  Apart from a super exciting end, Cats aren't looking too great this season, if they want to continue their finals record streak to continue, they need to figure something out.  Wagstaff can't be shooting 1/10 from the 3pt range, thats just ridiculous giving him that sort of freedom.  The big talk was Prather being a big improver but has yet to show it, confidence is there, but he hasn't been able to take over games yet like he should.  Jameel McKay is super efficient and just a workhorse.  Jaron Johnson is an enigma, 1min he's breaking his own ankles trying to cross the opponent over and turning the ball over, next minute he's sinking several 3's in a row, back to spin moving himself out of control till he turns the ball over again?!!?  :o

Across the rest of the league, Brisbane after 8 years out of the comp, win their first 2, Illawara have completely overhauled their team and I'm picking them as the favourites for the flag after seeing 1 game, Marvelle Harris is going to be very good and Rotnei Clarke is a past NBL MVP, Cairns to most likely get the wooden spoon, their team has reduced in talent from last year and the imports aren't great.

Wow, Wildcats cut Jaron Johnson!  Definitely thought he didn't fit our structure and he was a bit loose with the ball in his hands, but no denying the effort and hustle.  Was a bit bemused that he was benched the final 3 mins of the game against NZ.  Hopefully they have a replacement lined up.

Wildcats new import touches down today.  Andre Ingrams, 30 year old who has played for the Lakers D league team over the past few seasons.  Speciality is outside the ark.  Was around 49% last year from range and over all his seasons around the 46% mark.  See him coming off the bench, but is exactly what we're lacking after Beal was dumped.  Hopefully we don't see Wagstaff jacking up 10 treys a game and they can forget about Kernich-Drew as a 3pt pinch hitter now, he's still too young for that responsibility.

QuotePerth Wildcats import shooting guard Andre Ingram has requested to return home to the United States immediately.

The 30-year-old has cited mental health reasons for the sudden decision.

“In a time like this we have to focus on the individual, and right now Andre’s welfare is our number one priority,” said managing director Nick Marvin.

Ingram’s departure comes a day after point guards Damian Martin and Jarrod Kenny were both ruled out with injury, further depleting the club’s backcourt options.

Hahaha so awkward, this is gonna be interesting viewing

The guy was like a freight train off it's tracks, but he won the Cairns game for us, hit 3 treys in that final term and played solid defense.  He was totally out of control and turns the ball over when he has it in his hands for too long, but at least we get to see his and Prathers handshake again?  :o

Damo injured...again.  Really saw how he is our most important player, up by 17pts, Marto gets injured and Randle catches fire, definitely understand why he's favourite for MVP.  Lucky to pull it out in the end.  Crazy steal and half court shot from Jaron too.  He gets sacked for a 3pt specialist who leaves after a few games, bring him back and he hits 6 treys in his 1st home game back, go figure!  Hopefully Marto's knee injury isn't bad, he's the difference between another title or nothing.

Pretty sure he hit all his 3's in the first half!  Prather was just waltzing into the lane as easy as you like and scoring, prob should have gone to him more.  Kernich-Drew is coming along nicely as a 3pt specialist too.  Fingers crossed for Damo, we are just starting to look like we're gelling.

Yep Kenrich-Drew was looking real good, lots of promise.

Martin won’t undergo surgery, with club medical staff opting to rehabilitate the joint.

Wildcats staff will begin looking at injury replacement options.

I traded Lisch last week thinking he might be restricted due to injury and jumped on Penney. Huge win, but will go AJ since he did nothing to Pledger and Harris to Lisch. I will still have 95k to use since I have just been making money

Whitt and Newley (Andersen and Loe)
Pledger (Bairstow)
Lisch and Penney (Sobey and McCarron)

I was close to getting Randle last week and went Penney pretty happy with the decision since Penney got another double coming  even though he was a freak. Since I got money in the bank I will bring him in when Adelaide's doubles start (Hopefully for McCarron) if I can keep making cash

Yeah I got rid of Lisch too, but for Blake thinking Lisch would be out, that backfired big time!  125K in the bank

Whitt, Loe (Anderson, DJ)
Bairstow (Marics)
Newley, Blake (Harris, Bruce)

Thinking I've got too much cash on the bench...Penney might be my best option, maybe another Sydney player to maximise the run of 2 games...

Stockton had played a little with the Sacramento Kings and their D-League affiliate Reno Bighorns.  Looks quite good, but just a slight step off NBA level.  Should be a great pickup for the NBL.

Saw he holds the assist record in D-League with 22 assists in one game. Definitely must have some class, will be a good for the NBL to see how they compare to a D-League or Summer League type comp.

With how good McKay as been and tbh nothing against him but he wasn't huge in college. If NBL can keep getting the seniors from college who don't make the NBA. Their standard will lift pretty quickly I think

He played for some Czech team recently, came off the bench and put up pedestrian numbers, like 5pts 4ass.  Should do better in the NBL...unless he's not a starter.

dropped from 7th to 11th, actually had a poor week, if I went Lisch over Whitt as capt I can't believe I would have stayed where I was practically. Jumping on Knight for a cash grab and can start him over Penney as both have doubles this week. I bought him in for Andersen and still got $63k to use but will hold that to get Randle next week despite going to drop in price for a couple of games

Will be very tough against Sydney on their home court, Thurs was prob our best start of the season, but still had the 3qtr crumble.  Prather should be MVP favourite but he won't get it, NBL give it to guys who score, Prather is the only top tier player in the comp who hasn't put up a dud game.  Kings need to cut Blake and Powell, they are super useless.

Bryce Cotton to debut for the Wildcats today.  The type player we need and I personally think the highest credentialed player in their prime since James Ennis was in the NBL.  This is going to be good, I predict he will bring us back from the dead to make playoffs.  Also Damo Martin back this week too!  #letsgocat

Bloody absolute guns!  I called a 3-0 sweep and put $$$ on it.  Game 3 could be a bit dangerous if we let our guard down and the NBL decide to let Hawks play 3 extra players up in the refs, the umps have been woeful this season to the point where games have felt like they've been rigged.  I'll be there on Sunday cheering them on, lets bring home back to back!

Hopefully Matty Knight gets up, has had a horrid season, but has been playing very nicely in the playoffs.  Guy must have the softest chin, took a mild slap to the face from Prather and needed 3 guys to hold him up!!  :o  Then Wagstaff gets a brutal elbow to the face, pissing blood into his hands so it doesn't go on the court...nek minute back on bombing treys.

Nice man!  Is that signed stuff or tickets to a game?

The whole of Australia always sleep on the Cats, when will they learn.  Bullets however will be a bottom 2 side.  Was great to be back at the Arena with a full house.  Waxy stepped up big time and it baffles me how he couldn't get a game last year.  JP looked pretty nervous to start, but then got it going.  Cooke is solid, but needs to get more game time into him.  If Brandt hadn't missed so many buckets early he would've put up a massive line.  And Knight...concussed again in by a slight swipe to the cheek??  You need to call it a day man, you've got kids.

Every game has been great and the quality is at an all time high so far!

Tickets to a game

Think Cairns and NZ off the pace. I can see the Bullets being okay but nothing special. Brandt was a spastic at the start of the game didn't let anyone else shoot. JPT a decent pickup hasn't changed much from his college game. Struggles to shoot well consistently is one of his only weaknesses

But it's great to have some form of basketball back

7. NZ
8. Cairns

:o You're joking right?  Gaze is the equivalent of Voss as a coach.  Legendary player, but he'll never as good as his dad.  The tallest player in their starting 5 is 6'6" and they refuse to sign a 3rd import.  Guarantee they don't finish top let alone top 4.
Yesterday proved they are good. I agree Gaze is a shocking coach. Lisch injury probably means I would have to trade this but Perry Ellis is the second best player in the league even before yesterday. Someone who can shoot the percentages he does is gold in NBL.

Awful week for AJ Ogilvy if you play fantasy or DT. Lucky not to have bought him in. But if he doesn't sure I think Hawks are so overrated now we have seen a couple games. Conger is great but seems to go missing a lot

My predicted ladder.

1. Melbourne
2. Perth
3. Illawarra
4. Adelaide
5. Sydney
6. New Zealand
7. Cairns
8. Brisbane

Lack of DPP in the official fantasy game is super frustrating!

1. Sydney
2. Illawarra
3. Melbourne
4. Perth
5. Adelaide
6. Brisbane
7. NZ
8. Cairns

Some teams blow my mind the way the use their imports.  Rotnei coming off the bench is idiotic.  Carins used Craig and Trice terribly, both thrived in the Bullets system.

1 win does not a good team make I'm afraid.  Sydney will still finish in the bottom group, unless Illawarra don't get back on track quick smart then they might make 4th at the most.  United vs my Cats this week will be a huge game in Perth, in my opinion it will be the best defensive team vs the best offensive team.  Will see which style prevails.

Ellis 2nd best player in the league is a bit premature, let's see what he can do with another double, definitely a solid consistent player though.  Ware prob #1 after Cotton getting shut down, however Cats still win, it looked like the Hawks 1 goal was to stop Cotton.  Tokoto is looking to be a defensive beast, there was a passage of play at the start of the 2nd half where he had 2 stls and a block all in the 1st minute!

Ogilvy was horrendous and he does have a bad record against Perth, but not that bad.  Brought him in in RDT but not fantasy which I'm ok with.  Bullets are my trade targets for the week.

I'm pretty sure we'll cheer him when he comes on court, he was with us for back to back titles and he's hasn't "wronged" us in any way.  I'm not even sure if he suits up as I think he may have gotten a minor injury.

Kings are horrendous!

Don't think Cats have gone into the season as fave's for the past few years, so in my opinion that's sleeping on us.  Cooke was finally unleashed and has far better moves than a lot of the bigs we see come over from the states.

JChill is a big coup for 36ers, I had them finishing top four with or without him, I think they have the most talented Aussie stocks in their lineup.  I didn't realise Jchill had been released from Denver as I he had signed with them though?

Joey has ruined our chances by continuing to be the worst coach of all time

Melbourne and Sydney are perennial jokes

Sitting in top 30 odd for RDT, the new fantasy with extra trades im struggling at 250 odd

Yep, suck shower United and Kings always trying to buy a title.  NZ the surprise packet for me, but they obviously have a very well run organisation.  Joey is an absolute flog, not sure what your management is doing signing him for 5 years last season, guy is a chump.  Everyone's gunning for my Cats so a 3-peat is going to be tough.

I'm currently 158 in RDT and 120 in Fantasy.

Reckon we need to finish on top or it's going to be tough to 3peat.  The competition is miles ahead of last season, and NZ just brought in a beastman centre.  Would much rather play 36ers than either of NZ and United in the first round of finals.

Corey "Homicide" Williams, lol.

The import talent is currently off the chart right now.  SF has never been so dynamic with Tokoto, Prather, Conger and now Felix.  Big time double double centres, Boone, Cooke Jnr, Tyler now gone, but Xmas in town. PG has Cotton, Trice, Ware, Randle, Sosa, Rotnei, Lisch and Newbill.  Then there's Perry Ellis quietly doing his thing.  And then there's the aussies coming up, McCarron is a beast and he'd be my #1 target to get to replace Martin at the Cats, Creek is continually improving, Walker has gone from nothing to a starter on a championship team.  C is the only aussie position that has regressed, Ogilvy now sucks, Hodgson and Jervis are terrible. Brandt hasn't improved on last year, Humphries is a guy who get real good, however prob won't stay in the NBL due to his age and talent profile.  Good times in the NBL.

Brutal, just got home from the game, basically threw that game away with some stupid end game plays which have been a problem all year and not tough enough in the clutch to get those rebounds.  Otherwise pretty happy we threw everything we had at the 36ers tonight and everyone chipped in after Cotton leading the way, crowd was the loudest I've experienced in the jungle.  Well done to the 36ers for finally making it, not sure who I'll root for, will come down to which team I hate less lol!

Signings are ramping up for season 2018-2019 with rosters almost complete barring imports.

Can Bogut propel the Kings to a title?

Can Cotton be the next long term import Wildcat living legend after signing a 3 year contract behind names like Ricky Grace, James Crawford and Shawn Redhage?  Is Prather coming home?

Can United retain their imports and go B2B?

Can Adelaide continue to compete with the loss of Creek?

Can Bullets stay off the bottom of the ladder with their Boomers inspired squad?

Can NZ fly under the radar yet again and come up the goods with the signing of Wesley and Webster?

Can Cairns and Illawarra register a win this season?

It's gonna be a good season!

I do believe Mitch Creek leaves to pursue an NBA career, I believe he can!

Creek has the attributes to succeed in Europe but .....  I do think he will make it to an NBA list, same way as my boy from South East Adelaide Joe Ingles did! Creek is still learning but has a big 3, great defense and breaks the lines hard for the rim

I also want Childress babies, but the 36rs might be in trouble

Creeks not close to Jingles level, he's also shorter than Prather who can't get a gig in the NBA and is much better.  He'll be back with his tail between his legs soon enough, no more bicep flexing.

United signed McCarron today to a 3 year deal, devastated, he's easily my favourite non Wildcat player playing for probably my most hated team.  :'(

Looking forward to the new season and to see how Kay and Norton gel with the old crew at the Wildcats, great move signing these two, very similar situation to when Knight and Damo came over together, could form the foundation for the club for another decade.  Cat's seem to be taking the cheaper approach this year going into the season with only 2 imports, I'm hoping this is just to gauge the competition and see what we are lacking in before we add a 3rd import.  Terrico White is our 2nd import, 28 years old and has great experience across multiple professional leagues and can shoot the 3 which is what we were lacking from our 3 spot last year in Tokoto.  Should take a a load off Cotton's shoulders too.  Someone on Twitter's already nicknamed him "The Chemist".  ;D

- They should release Terrico White

EAD, a big fat one for all the haters.  Gleeson not even top 3 for CoTY, Bogut better than Cotton?!?  NBL might have been able to control those results, but a team of players and 2 imports with no ego get it done again.

RJ Hampton to New Zealand. Excluding Bogut this is probably the biggest signing ever

But that’s why players go to college also why guys like Morant don’t have to be one and done freshman because they can use college to make themselves stars RJ can’t do that here. One because no one cares about the NBL they still rate it outside the top 5. Randle dominated TBT and people still don’t know what league he played in

I like that RJ decision anyway, left as an underclassman with less credits meaning some chance of eligibility issues and he wanted to be a pro anyway. Just hoping the NBL can get the guy on marquee time slots both for promotion and to also get him on FTA because NBL on Fox has awful rating (despite breaking attendance records). I’m worried we are gonna have a future star playing in our backyard and even this Aussie public won’t care enough to watch

Agree they et much less exposure leaving US to play elsewhere, but if they're going to be a star that won't change.  Look at Doncic who played outside USA, less exposure, slipped in the draft and ended up the best player in the crop at this stage.  RJ is going to get solid experience from playing against guys like Ware, Damien Martin, Cotton, Trimble.  Overall this will better his game I believe.

We really need Melo Ball here. He’s ineligible for college anyway but hopefully if he can get here they actually build something for these 2 guys

Yeah saw that, not sure who the third and 4th HS players were going to be. Obviously haven't got them. But good start unfortunately this had to happen 5 years ago. Elimination of one and done only a couple years away

As we all expected Melo Ball coming her to play as he can’t pkay in the US at all this season. Think the bigger name is Aaron Brooks, Hawks we’re smashed last year without an import PG

Yep massive upgrade overall at the Hawks, rumours swirling around that Swaggy P might be on his way downunder too!  :o

Lol, 36ers have arranged to go to Manilla to play the Philippines national team in "friendlies".  WTF were they thinking when they organised this after the Boomers games?!?  :o

Massive news NBL moving to ESPN. Great for the bigger games and the ability to create content around the games themselves. However only seem to be mentioning the prime time games. Some seem to think that the others will be shared upon watch espn, FTA and other platforms like NBL TV. If that is really the case I’m not happy that every game won’t be in one place like the last few seasons

ESPN get prime time games, but I think SBS get all games including the prime time ones, plus SBS On Demand.  All finals will also be free to air, has to be a good thing for the growth of the sport, us usual fans will just have to get used to it changing I guess.  Wonder what time those prime time games will be on in the USA?  Assume only the hardcore fans of Hampton and Ball will be watching?

In for an incredible season, every team looks stacked.  Getting pretty inpatient with my Wildcats C signing though!

Holy shower. Not even the AFL pay for its own production. NBL are paying for everything as the rights were free as well. The only thing the NBL get back is the ad revenue. That’s crazy

I can't see NBL ever running at a profit to be honest.  Channel 9 weren't doing the brand any justice, instead causing alienation from the fans, glad they had the decency to let LK take it elsewhere and give the fans better time slots.  Wonder how the commentary team will work on SBS?  I'd rather not listen to Homicide or Shane Heal again.

Hope they use those international games to pump up the coming season. Any idea of the broadcasting crews for SBS, ESPN or the international games?

Yeah was wondering about that too, but if you say that they aren't getting any money except from ads then I'd assume it's whoever the NBL employ at least on SBS.

Wowsers, Gliddon, Sobey and Kay make the Boomers cut over Creek, Adel and Motum?!?  I can understand Kay as he's been the standout in training so far, but Gliddon and Sobey over Creak and Adel?!?  Reeks of Lemanis and his Brisbane bias, thank flower Cadee isn't there.
