Title: Fantasy Premier League 2016/2017 season
Post by: Spite on August 07, 2016, 06:08:30 PM
Hi guys, welcome back to another big year of FPL. Maybe Rusty will beat me this season, but I doubt it  :P

The code is:

21621-114782

However a lot of you will have been automatically entered from last season, so bring it on!

Good luck for season 2016/17!

Haha I was probably going to give this season a miss as like you said it's a long season and takes up a fair bit of time to stick it out and was trying to spend less time on fantasy sports.

You may have just given me a reason to play again though to try and beat you ;)

I've played the last few seasons and have got progressively further into the season each time. The season goes for like 9 months, yeah?

Some good team name puns I have seen...

"Holding Matip"

"Ayew Holding Matip"

I'll be the first person to post their team.

So how far off track am I? From what I take from the scoring, wingers generally score better than those in the middle? I feel like I'm spending too much on the forwards at the cost of he mids, with the kids really falling away after Hazard/Payet.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Post by: PowerBug on August 08, 2016, 07:02:30 PM
I'm outta the loop with EPL knowledge but from looking at the prices there's not much worth spending on in the mids. I've gone with 3 huge strikers; Ibra, Sturridge and Aguero (May change Aguero though) and it kinda toils away from there. I'll look into the scouts articles during the week and see what I can find.

I think looking into projected finishes and early draws are important, there's no point in trying to find any more than 3 players that you can say you plan to hold for the entire season, the rest should be based on the draws in the first 5-10 MatchDays.

Not too far off mate, you have just spent too much down back which hurts the team as a whole. And you've broken the number one rule of "always start aguero" :P

Spending a lot on forwards is fine because they score. They can score multiple goals and so aren't really capped for how many points they can get. Defenders just get 4 points for clean sheet and rarely score so that is why heavy investment isn't encouraged as CS are generally more of a lottery

Reasons behind my team:
- United, Totteham have a good draw early, so Darmain, Walker, De Gea hopegully give me points. Eriksen, Kane and Ibra are guns anyway
- Costa is decent, may yet look at changing him to Aguero and Eriksen to someone priced $5.5 or less
- Hector is from Arsenal and I need to start on Gunner
- Amat, Lowton two cheap defenders not really planning on starting them ever
- Redmond apparently going to play Striker to start the season? I like that
- Townsend, Feghouli idk I just read stuff on the PL website that said they might be good
- Danny Drinkwater has an awesome name
- Jakupovic seems to be in lots of teams

Spite you're the legend here, thoughts? Anyone we just have to pick/not pick?

Yeah quite a few things need to change. You've gone expensive down back and also up front, this makes your team not very flexible which is super important.

Darmian isn't starting for united so he needs to go. Bellerin I do not like just because Arsenal do not have a great early draw and also they do not have any fit CBs and I'm not sure they will keep CS early. He certainly isn't cheap, hes the most expensive defender in the game.

Don't have 2 4.0 defenders that don't play or you get a zero if one of your defenders doesn't start. Make one a 4.5 (keep amat).

(Do bellerin to a 5.5 and darmian to a 4.5, as well as lowton to a 4.5 and then rotate the 4.5s based on fixtures).

Pick ferghouli or drinkwater, but not both. The midfield is super weak and it's not worth it, drop a striker. A 6.5 striker will score more goals and points than what a 6.5 mid will score. So downgrade a striker to a 6.5 and upgrade a 5.5 mid to a 8.5+ mid and then drop down the other 5.5 to a 4.5 bench mid, someone like capoue or holsberg or fletcher.

Your team will look ten times better and more capable of jumping on guns players who start hot

So the league is the same one from last season? Good as!

Haven't really done my research yet (though I probably should asap lel).

Team is currently:

Schmeichel
Fuchs, Alderweireld, Monreal
Eriksen, Redmond, Fabregas, Payet
Negredo, Zlatan, Vardy

Jakupovic, Amat, Capoue, Ogbonna

Cheers Spite :) I think Amat and Lowton will play from what I have looked up, but McAuley seems to have a decent run so rolled with him. Gone with Negredo at ST3 as well behind Zlatan and Kane to open up funds to turn Feghouli to any mid I want (Which is the tough bit :P)

this is my squad. took a few risks.
Foster @ GK1. injured most of last season. besides last year he's avg'd 117.6 the 5 years before that.
gone for a "safe" DEF (4x100)
a "safe" MID (4x150) with the hopes that Firmino can push 200  ;)  (YNWA  :P )
Aguero is a must for captain, and Ibra will get his 20 goal avg ever since he joined Juve.

my bench is so common LOL, i see most teams have it

I don't follow EPL or Soccer in general, so:
a) help me pick a club to follow
and
b) let me know which players are the cheap locks!

Quote from: fanTCfool on August 12, 2016, 08:38:04 PMb) let me know which players are the cheap locks!

basic structure is...

GK - 1 x (4.5 - 5.5) & 1 x (4.0 playing cheapie who'll gain money)
DEF - 2-3 x (5.0 - 6.0) 2-3 (4.0 - 4.5 playing cheapie who'll gain money)
MID - 3-4 x (7.5 - 11.0) & 1-2 x (4.5 - 5.5 playing cheapie who'll gain money)
FWD - 2 x (9.0 - 13.0) & 1 x (4.5 - 6.5 playing cheapie who'll gain money)

cheapies - Amat, Fletcher, Gray, Jakupovic, feghouli, friend, Mee, lowton, Kante

try and find FWDs who're listed as MIDs.

hope that helps.

In my first season I traded in Silva and put him on the field, didn't click save changes and watched him score 10+ as my third sub.

Off to a decent start this season but Ibra could change all that considering I went Kane over him

march on to next week. BTW great win by the reds. gave me a heart attack with the poor defending. #MORENOOUT

f you don't use free transfer it carries over to next week but maximum free transfers is 2. You can make as many tranfers as you like but the non-free ones will cost you 4 points.

The  All Out Attack, Bench Boost,Triple Captain were new last year and are bonus "chips" but you only get to use 1 per season.

All out attack: play 3 forwards, 5 midfielders and only 2 defenders

Triple captain: 3 times captain score

Bench boost: all 15 players in squad contribute to score

Patience running thin on Harry Kane and Gylfi Sigurdsson :-\

I think with Paredes not even being named on the bench this week means I'll trade him out with one of my FTs. Not sure what to do with the other yet.

52 points for me, with Payet and Negredo to come. 60 for the week would be nice :)

Two crappy weeks in a row for me... 30 last week yuk. Only De Gea and Baines got me more than 2.

Using the wildcard this week though, wanted to get rid of Stones, Kane and Eriksen and am using it to pocket some $$$ along the way too :)

I was in this this but somehow stuffed up using my wildcard, ended up getting 24 points taken off my first round score. I emailed them and they wouldn't fix it up for me, I said it doesn't matter there's always next year lol.

I've got a problem. Payet. I still have him and I'm thinking of getting rid of him, but he has some nice fixtures coming up and has played some minutes for France, so is it really worth getting rid of him?

Same issue. I held and was rewarded. That assist though, out of this world.

Title: Re: Fantasy Premier League 2016/2017 season
Post by: PowerBug on September 12, 2016, 02:38:54 PM
I got 38 with Baines and Barkley to go :-\ I told myself to never take the C off Ibra, and holding to that.

My Pre-Wildcard (GW3) team:
De Gea (Jakupovic)
Alderweireld, Baines, Stones (McAuley, Amat)
Sigurdsson, Barkley, Redmond, Eriksen (Drinkwater)
Kane, Negredo, Ibra [c]

My Post-Wildcard (GW4) team:
Foster (Jakupovic)
Valencia, Baines, McAuley, Alderweireld (Amat)
Hazard, Sterling, Barkley (Redmond, Capoue)
Costa, Negredo, Ibra [c]

My GW4 team has 38 with 2 to play, but GW3 team would have 47 points with the same 2 to play, but no doubt I would've played McAuley over Stones (+4) and traded in Capoue for Drinkwater and named him over Redmond (+12)

So I'm stupid! The good bit though is that I used the WildCard to up my team value to $100.8 with $0.9 leftover :)

GW6 has some fixture changes (arsenal, pool, whm, watford get nice runs) so would ideally use it then, as well as getting kun back in ofcourse

Pretty happy with my team.

Cech
Coleman/Walker/Koscielny
Sterling/Payet/Snodgrass/Capoue
Deeney/Aguero/Ibra

Jakupovic/Amat/Fletcher/Kone

Went from 280k to 145k this week after a 58 point haul. Still have all of my boosts & a Team value of 100.7mil.

Just gotta keep it up now

Not sure ATM. I have 2 free trades so I was looking at options the other day to move him allowing to upgrade a mid, but there isn't anything that looked enticing enough with a good/reasonable draw.

Depends on what happens with Sterling's injury aswell.

No games this week though, so gonna hold off on any decision until late next week.
Title: Re: Fantasy Premier League 2016/2017 season
Post by: PowerBug on October 05, 2016, 12:49:52 PM
Sanchez would have to be the one to jump on in the mids, we have a good draw I read.

My team has turned to dirt. Ibra has been playing well but just can't find a goal!! :(
Title: Re: Fantasy Premier League 2016/2017 season

I'm pretty sure Sterling is faking an injury so he doesn't have to play an international game. I think Sanchez might be a must-have and a couple of weeks ago I downgraded Ibra to Deeney to find the funds for Sanchez. I'm looking to bring in an Arsenal defender because they have looked solid at the back, keeping a clean sheet in their last 2 games.

Another interesting stat is that Southampton have kept a clean sheet in their last 6 games (all competitions). I think I might also invest in Burnley's defence because they have looked super solid at home. Keeping clean sheets against Liverpool and Watford and Arsenal only managed to score against them in the last minute.

Some other mid-priced mids to watch are Walcott, Son and Lallana. They have looked pretty good over the past few weeks.

Yeah Sanchez is the one I want. Originally I was going to go De Bruyne/Antonio, but felt better with Sterling/Payet. Had a feeling Antonio was going to drop off when he moved back from the strikers role.
Arsenals draw was the reason I bought in Cech & Kochielny 2 weeks ago, which turned out to be a masterstroke. Is having Sanchez as a third Arsenal player a bad idea. The next 3 weeks are soft and then it gets a bit tougher.

The problem with downgrading Ibra is I cannot see anyone who im confident enough in.. Lukaku is the one as Man Citys defence is poor, then they have a few good fixtures at home.
Issue is that id be .6 off going Sterling to Sanchez, could get Walcott and leave 3 mil in the bank.

Interesting about Southampton, but im not taking that risk as they have some tough matches coming up, same with Burnley
Title: Re: Fantasy Premier League 2016/2017 season
Post by: GoTheEagles on October 06, 2016, 10:57:12 AM
I don't think having Sanchez is a bad idea and imo, I think he is going to explode against Sunderland and Middlesborough over the next few weeks. I also think Walcott is a good pick and will only be behind Sanchez in Arsenal's total points over the next few games.

Costa may be a one to watch as he has only blanked once this year (score of 2 or less). I've gone for Lukaku because he has easier fixtures compared to Costa.

Son is also one to watch, he's only behind Aguero in minutes per goal.

Haha I couldn't afford it by like 0.6m because I have low team value.

I ended up going with;

Pick/Grant
Mustafi, Clyne, Holebas, Francis, Amat
Sanchez, Payet, Firmino, Walcott, Leko
Kun, Deeney, Cal Wilson

Captained Wilson this week so have jumped form 12th in our FF league to 4th! Right back in it  8)

Where my squad sits right now:

Foster (Jakupovic)
Valencia, Morgan, Holebas (McAuley, Amat)
Hazard, Sterling, Walcott, Shaqiri (Capoue)
Costa, Ibrahimovic, Benteke

Used my FT for the week already (Snodgras -> Shaqiri), but moving forward from here I was thinking of turning Jakupovic into a playing keeper (Heaton?) and then some more shuffling in defence. Got $1.6mil left over

Benteke to Austin would open up a fair few doors for you. Especially if sterling starts getting rotated.

Don't both with a keeper transfer as WBA fixture are about to get good and you won't be playing Heaton

I did it two weeks ago not very happy either :-\

Scored 56 which is nice slowly moving up the rankings :D 3rd in the FF group for the month of November so I'm getting better ;)

Now to make 2 useful transfers... ;)

Only made Countinho to Sigurdsson. I was tempted by Benteke to Anichebe to be able to go Shaqiri to Mane (most likely, in without a Liverpool player) but held off and Benteke gets 12 :D

Got 51 with Ibra C to go :) As long as Ibra gets positive points it'll be another rankings climb

Turning Shaqiri to Fer and can then looking at Jakupovic/Foster to any keeper except Courtois or Fabianski, which one should I get?

Heaton if he's fit
Forster for smoky
Butland when he's back
De Gea if you want to splash the cash

I usually go cheap in GK.

If you have foster then just save the transfer man

I'll keep listening to you but Foster is really bugging me :(

Shaqiri -> Fer did nothing in the end as Shaqiri got 2 but Fer didn't play (Anyone know why?) so I get Capoue's 2 off the bench.

On 34 mainly thanks to Gylfi getting 13, with Foster, Alonso, Hazard, Costa and Ibra (c) to come. Hopefully can make it my 5th 50+ week in a row.

Ended up on 59 so pretty happy :)

Now it's operation get Sanchez for the Boxing Day matches (So in 3 GWs time)... I want to do it whilst keeping Costa, Hazard, Ibra, Benteke, Sigurdsson and Walcott so it's going to be pretty much impossible haha

Or maybe I should just spend the $3.1 mil I have in the bank and back the guns I have got.

Edit: Oooo Benteke has United, Chelsea and Arsenal in 3 of their next 4, is there a cheap striker I could jump on??

Extended my run of 50+ scores into 8 GameWeeks 8) This Ibra perma-C is starting to work out alright ;)

Sitting top of the FF league for December at this point as well :o (Others would have more players remaining so I will probably lose that spot tonight)

Need 3 from Holebas to make it 9 in a row with 50+ :-\ Hoping for an assist against an under strength Spurs.

Not overly happy with the trades I just made but we will see. Turned Alonso and Hazard to Daniels and Sanchez and took a -4 at the same time. I wanted to get Sanchez in two weeks ago, but now I think I have to. His numbers have been better with Giroud in the team, his scoring hasn't come yet though.

Foster (Jakupovic)
Daniels, Holebas, Walker (McAuley, Amat)
Sanchez, Pogba, Antonio, Phillips (Capoue)
Ibra, Costa, Negredo

Where I sit at the moment. Want to move on both Watford players soon, especially Holebas to another defender (Will need to see who's fixtures look good)

Looks like WINNING! will take out the FF League. Has a 22 point lead on Bulgarian Beats heading into the final round.

Looks like I will finish 8th at worst, 6th at best, about 100 points off the leader (Which was all lost early in the season). Pretty happy that I have played the entire season though, been fun doing this :D
