Title: Finals Week One Thread
Post by: Jukes on July 24, 2016, 09:07:46 PM
Fixtures
1st Elimination Final: Carolina Panthers vs Santiago Cockerels
Very opposite results in the final round of the season - Carolina lost their big clash with Chicago, dropping from 2nd to 4th, while Santiago easily accounted for Houston to maintain a finals spot. Both teams have a wealth of star power - Ward, Bontempelli, Shiel, Dusty, and JPK vs Gawn, Zorko, Shuey, Macrae, and Ablett Duncan. Santiago have been extremely up and down all season, and will almost certainly need to be in the upswing to beat Carolina away - while Carolina, who have consistency issues of their own (140 and 111 the last fortnight), should get the job done - should.
Earlier this season: Round 9: Santiago Cockerels 17.10.112 lost to Carolina Panthers 19.9.123

2nd Elimination Final: San Francisco Grizzlies vs Anaheim Mighty Ducks
Anaheim have been respectable all year, continuing to get points and wins on the board all season despite the loss of several players due to injury or suspension. Reigning premiers San Francisco would obviously prefer not to be in the elimination final, but will have to win and get to the Grand Final the hard way. Another clash of the stars - Dangerfield obviously headlining for Anaheim, and his performance may very well decide the outcome of the match, in addition to Hannebery and Merrett, up against Stevo, Stef, Conigs and Heater. SF will be full of confidence after another nailbiting victory over Boston to equal five wins on the trot (since that last Anaheim clash), so I'll back my boys in - but will be very wary of a repeat of last time.
Earlier this season: Round 11: Anaheim Mighty Ducks 17.13.115 defeated San Francisco Grizzlies 3.94.112

Qualifying Final: Boston Terriers vs Chicago Sharks
The good news? Both of these teams will be safe no matter what happens this week. The bad news? Assuming they both get through their elimination finals, Carolina and San Francisco await these two teams next week - meaning failing to secure a win this week and the future double chance (complicated finals system I know) will hurt. Boston obviously have a team of champions (Pendles, Priddis, Neale, Cotchin, Gray, and Dal Santo in the midfield alone), but are they a champion team? The performance of the fringe players such as Kelly, Ross, Biggs, Martin, Robinson, and Wright may dictate this game. As for Chicago? They didn't name a team last week but still got over the line against the highly-fancied Carolina. Selwood and Parker form a lethal co-captaincy duo, but is that enough to get up in Boston? Their last clash, a pretty comfortable Chicago victory, will spur the Sharks on, while Boston have their own encouragement - playing for Mitch Wallis, who brutally broke his leg last round. I'll back the Terriers to get the win, with not much certainty.
Earlier this season: Round 6: Chicago Sharks 16.15.111 lost to Boston Terriers 16.16.112
Round 12: Chicago Sharks 20.9.129 defeated Boston Terriers 16.19.115

Carolina Panthers 18.11.119 defeated Santiago Cockerels 15.11.101
(Real: 1779 vs 1519)

The Santiago Cockerels season, yinging and yanging until the very end. After scoring the equal-highest score of the round last week, they've crumbled to only just scrape over the 100-point barrier. Carolina didn't have to do much, but they were still impressive - especially given Jon Patton could only manage 23. Santiago finish sixth and will pick seventh in the draft, while Carolina will fight another week.

Best
Carolina: Johnson, Kennedy, Grundy, Ward, Mumford, Docherty, Shiel
Santiago: Gawn, Duncan

San Francisco Grizzlies 17.20.122 lost to Anaheim Mighty Ducks 22.7.127
(Real: 1823 vs 1904)

Pretty bullshower if I can say so myself - SF just cannot get a stroke of luck at all this season. Anaheim managed to reap the benefits of twin 144s from Dangerfield and Hannebery, C and VC, with contributions from many others - roughly 13 of the 18 outscored their average. Meanwhile, that number would be about 8 for the SFG - costing them the game. I assume if you count up our scores next week, we'll score 130+.

Best
San Francisco: Betts, Shaw, Coniglio, Wines, Montagna
Anaheim: Dangerfield, Hannebery, Smith, Birchall, Boak, Greene, Vandenberg

Boston Terriers 20.11.131 defeated Chicago Sharks 15.19.109
(Real: 1969 vs 1636)

Chicago definitely didn't stand up under pressure, a very large amount of poor performances compounding a large amount of great performances by the Terriers. At least they get a second chance next week...

Best
Boston: Pendlebury, Gray, Laird, Ross, Goldstein, Dal Santo, Rich, Neale, Priddis
Chicago: Parker, Gaff, Gibson, Burgoyne

Meaning the Semi-Finals will consist of:
1st Semi Final: Chicago Sharks vs Anaheim Mighty Ducks (Losing team Eliminated)
2nd Semi Final: Boston Terriers vs Carolina Panthers (Losing team gets another chance)

If you want Nic Nat, you have to give me Goldy. There's no way I'm going into 2017 with Ben McEvoy as my only ruck hahahaha.
