Title: WXV International Draft 2014
Post by: ossie85 on November 30, 2014, 10:33:39 AM
DRAFT NOT STARTED YET! We need to wait until final list lodgements. Likely start on December 9th

NOTES:
- You can not go over 30,000 points BE CAREFUL WHEN PICKING PLAYERS WITH POINTS ATTACHED
- You only get a pick in the preseason (and a first crack at the rookies) if you pass a pick in the International Draft
- Each team has 24 hours to pick, but if you are online during the time of your pick, you only have 2 hours to make that selection (co-coaches need to be wary of this). After this time you'll be auto picked the next available player from the AFL draft, or alphabetically if no AFL draft players remain

Just a note Oss draft tracker is incorrect in that it does not record Jeremy Finlayson GWS and Josh Clayton  Brisbane who were taken with clubs last picks under F/s so you need to add these 2 players.

understand the keenness :)

But some player will inevitably be a late delisting or not get picked up and this way will work out much neater

kinda glad this has been delayed now. Builds the suspense and most other drafts will nearly be done and dusted so we can roll straight into this one

Bidding for Ahmed Saad Begins Now

More information here (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/topic,88790.msg1506158.html#msg1506158)...

Not much time, you have 2 days from this post to bid.

Pacific Islanders (Jayman) doesn't need to bid. Once all bids are in, Jayman can decide whether he wants to match it.

1 day passes and no bids for Saad!

Have updated the draft order based on current list lodgements. If your pick has a cross through it, it means you currently don't have enough space on your list to take that pick.

In our case, 65 goes to upgrading Jordon Bourke yes?

Basically yes, I'm not bothering putting the upgraded rookies on the list (the AFL didn't this time so I'm not gonna also :P )

Anyone who has promoted a rookie can be assured they have been promoted :) will give final lists in a couple of days so you guys can confirm

International Draft = All AFL National Draft players + WXV Delisted Players

Preseason Draft = All remaining players from International Draft + AFL Rookies, only get a pick here if you pass a pick in the International Draft, this draft completes your senior list

Rookie Draft = All remaining players, they go on your rookie list.

So the point of the Preseason Draft  is to be able to put AFL Rookie listed players on your senior list then?

Otherwise what's the point?

Why you would you pass in the Nat Draft if all the other players are available in the Preseason draft aside. Aren't you just putting yourself back in the order then?

And, why isn't the Rookie draft the one where you have first crack at the rookies?

The pre-season draft gives you first crack at putting those drafted in the AFL rookie draft, straight on your senior list.

Rookie Pick 1 in the AFL may be of more worth than who you could draft with WXV pick 90-odd. It's just there for the option I guess.

Yes, the point of the preseason draft is to add players to your senior list, not available in the International draft (exactly like the AFL, except ours is far more relevant than the AFL one now lol)

You don't put yourself back in the order, you are actually pushing in front. Rookie players aren't available in the International draft

The Rookie draft really should be the only for the players left over, if you think a player is worth it to be on your senior list, why should you wait until the rookie to pick them up?

The Rookie draft really should be the only for the players left over, if you think a player is worth it to be on your senior list, why should you wait until the rookie to pick them up?

because like the AFL you might want a player but not to waste a senior spot on them, that's why north dropped Delaney hoping to pick him up in the rookie than got sniped by Geelong.

Im getting confused here between draft, international draft etc  :-[

^ yes, but that exact same thing can happen now. The difference here is that we have no individual choice (Cam Delaney doesn't personally say he is nominating for the WXV International Draft or the WXV Rookie Draft). At least this way you have tactics and risk.

AND WE ARE RIGHT TO GO!

We have a very nice round number of 100 picks!

BE CAREFUL WITH PICKING PLAYERS WITH POINTS. Some teams are very close to the cap, any pick that sends you over the cap will make that pick void.

If you want to pass on a pick, feel free to let us know in advance, to keep the draft moving.

Each team has 24 hours to pick, but if you are online during the time of your pick, you only have 2 hours to make that selection (co-coaches need to be wary of this).

I'm not as I think Wright could easily be the best of the lot from this draft...albeit in 4-5 seasons time.

He's by far the most unique pick in the draft as the only good ruck/forward and that same aspect makes him more valuable than the first 4 who went.

Looks like we would only have had a choice between him and McCartin at 4 anyway if we had it and I'd still have preferred Wright.

There was plenty of contenders, and it was a last minute decision between JS and Doug's boy, but numbers don't lie. Dominated at the nat champs, and when he returned to the NEAFL after the carnival he averaged 31 disposals, five marks and nine tackles a game. His contested possessions are through the roof too.

So, we're pretty stoked to welcome this attractive young lad to the club with #10.

We'll take Paul "Acorn" Ahern!

Nige says: Kid's a gun, stoked to get him at 10. Should be fantastic in a M/F DPP capacity and could well and truly turn out the best player from this draft.

ML says: Paula 'Acorn' Ahern. He's a bloke that knows how to do things. Expect him to not only kick and handball, but also run and do the catching thing. He's also pretty good at checkers and even better at peeling carrots, which is ultimately why we picked the Acorn.

Dave says: Well, I just mowed the lawn, so Acorn seemed like an obvious choice.

Pk says: Should be called Paul "The Fringe" Ahern, solid pick up for us.

Looks like we would only have had a choice between him and McCartin at 4 anyway if we had it and I'd still have preferred Wright.

Haha, either you're delusional or desperate to not be seen as miscalculating a trade :p

Let's come back to this one in another 3 seasons or so. McCartin will play early but I can't see him ever averaging much more than 90 whereas Wright as a ruc/fwd could go 100+ one day.

Emma Quayle agrees with me: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/2014-afl-draft-a-level-playing-field-for-recruiters-20141115-11nfn5.html

And she's the best in the business when it comes to the kids and the phantom drafts: http://hurlingpeoplenow.tumblr.com/post/104125620572/phantom-drafts-and-the-real-afl-draft-the-washup

But, given Wright will take a lot of time and is a long term project I'm expecting we might cop a bit of heat for this pick in the next few seasons.

Just waiting for ML to reply me on Facebook, we're just trying to split two blokes.

I believe our two hours started from 9:30am. Don't wanna wait it out, but I'll give 'em a chance as it's still pretty early on a Sunday morning.  :P

This bloke won't get to our next pick and we're big fans.

The newest Cairene is Connor "Blake Lively" "Blokely" Blakely.

Nige says: Blakely's definitely got what it takes to be a star, could break into the Freo team next year and we've got no qualms with using #13 to make sure he's wearing orange and yellow for years to come.

ML says: Blokely is a great guy that does the AFL thingo really well. Whether it be pointing in directions or putting his mouth guard in his sock, he will usually be one of the best. Also was pretty good in Gossip Girl and that's as good a reason as any.

Dave says: I buy most of my clothes from Connor. They're pretty nice.

Pk says: I still wish he somehow made it to the Saints.

Agree early for Blakely but if he can get games (probably Mundy's long term replacement), then could be a nice pick here!

Talking Buenos Aires? They traded out all their stars, and still were 1800+ points over the cap, despite being basically guaranteed bottom 4. This was after feedback, where we reduced the min by 2000 points and reduced the max which conceptually helps them also. If anything the cap was too lenient.

Plus they were top 4 for 3 years in a row, so it's not like they have been in a world of pain

I have a whole thing about how the max cap hurts them the most of any team. I could go into it but it might not be a good idea..

Is there anything wrong with my helping them out as an assistant?

Would make it very hard for you to get trades approved with them, a big conflict of interest. But no real issue other than that

Great pick we considered him at 7 but luckily De goey slipped. Would have loved him at 15 but more than happy to pick up Corey Ellis.

Huge mid boost with brayshaw, De goey and Ellis.

Jarrod Pickett

Hard edged Midfielder/Forward who loves making use of the ball effectively, should have a shot at being a starter in GWS' 22 in 2015.

McKenzie will be the most valuable of the lot of them if the Saints play him off half back as a rebounder. Similar player to Hibberd, but with the leaping ability of Fyfe so he can pull in some intercept marks too.

Langford was one of only 6 players to average 100 or more DT in the TAC. SC average of 122. One point less than Petracca.

I rated him very highly before the draft. I rated him even more highly after the draft, so I would have definitely picked him up. His ball use is superb. The Dogs have said they are going to play him as a high half forward where he can roam all over the ground and accumulate possessions rather than being stuck as a roving forward.

We've grabbed some blokes that we think can have an immediate impact in Petracca and Miller, we're going to go with a more long-term prospect with this one. Looks like a defender with an elite kick that could play through the midfield in the future.

So I accidentally came online and even though HP said we could have more time, we decided to pick without Nigeria being online. Apparently he's sleeping or something like that.

We are picking Hugh 'Potentially Footlong' Goddard.

So this bloke was picked as a result of a coin flip, but I think he's pretty cool. Seems like a good bloke and I've heard he likes making ramps for toboggans and he also is a big fan of Easter. He once won an easter egg hunt when he was 5 in just under 3 hours. He also plays Korfball for Swaziland and is a great person in general.

So here's some quotes from the old Cairo blokes.

Nige: I like this pick because I was asleep at the time and any pick that ML makes is bound to be good. He's the best guy ever and can never do anything wrong at all. I can't wait to wake up and find out that our pick has already been taken and that I wasn't consulted at all and that a coin flip was used to decide which player to draft. YAY!

Dav: "Well his name is Hugh, which gives you the impression that he has a big head, and you can never get too much head"

PKBalding: Hugh "J" Goddard, a man who swings both ways is good to me!

Question: If a team fails to pick and gets autopicked (as per the rules in the OP), do they again get immediately autopicked come their next selection or do they get 24 (or 2 hours if online) again?
Title: Re: WXV International Draft 2014
Post by: Hellopplz on December 08, 2014, 12:23:24 PM
Think it's normal for their next pick, but after two picks usually goes auto if they haven't come online since.

Given, harsh since it is still early December :-X.

I don't like seeing anybody autopicked as much as the next guy, but presuming JB PM'd Jay (and/or tbag/UTM) then it's a bit odd to not see your PMs and pick when you've been on twice in one morning.

Title: Re: WXV International Draft 2014
Post by: Nige on December 08, 2014, 01:29:47 PM
Well, we were hoping for double the McGovern, but that got foiled.

Jack "Looney Tunes" Lonie is the next player to join the Sands.

Nige says: Stoked to get Lonie, he's a really good small forward and we reckon he'll be even more successful than Stephen Milne... in an on-field capacity of course. He should push for a spot in the side sooner rather than later, which is always a good thing.

ML says: Jack used to be the quiet kid that sits in the corner and builds stuff with his lego, while all the other kids were outside running and frolicking around. Now look at him, he gets to play for Cairo and not any of those other crappy teams. Looks like those 6 years in kindergarten really paid off. He can probably kick as well, not sure though.

Dave says: Seems like a bit of a loony to me. Looney Tunes was pretty great though. That silly Coyote could never quite catch the Road Runner. Gotta feel for the guy sometimes, ya know? Oh but yeah, this Jack kid seems alright.

Pk says: Jack "NuTiprat" Lonie is a super handy goal sneak who I can see playing most of this year. To fill the void of a goal sneak which we havent had since saads ban and milne retiring. Should be a well needed player at Cairo.

Dillos in serious need of some defenders. He may not be a huge SC scorer but I think he could definitely be solid and that's what the dillos need.  Probably about the right time to pick him up as he could be a really good AFL player and exactly what north need so he could easily win a spot in the 22 in the coming years.

Sam Durdin

yeah its interesting how that happens. I stole Miller with a high 30s pick in the euro but he went about right here. Guess he is alisghtly more a SC player but interesting to see who slips and who goes early. I think moore went pick 5 in ten10 and that's SC

Alright, it's show time. Been waiting for these picks the whole draft and we've got our boys!

We'll start with Josh "Joshington DC" Deluca-Cardillo

Next up is Josh "Tipsy" McGuinness

And last but not least, Ed "Volks" Vickers-Willis

PNL will select a delisted player with #58! Was a tough call whether it be an old guy for depth but decided to take a risk on Jordan Kelly. Found a new home and did pretty well in the vfl this year so could potentially slip into the doggies side during next season. Means our list is now at 40.

Can somebody please message the next coach as on phone :). Thanks!

We'll be passing the rest of the draft

So that's 3 passes?

Yep

Also, points on your rookie list count towards the points cap right? Just checking.

Just got a question, we were looking at upgrading Sam Gray from the rookie list (with a later pick, not this one), but thinking we might just leave him there actually... Is that still possible or is his upgrade already locked in?

locked in sorry guys

With that then Beijing won't be taking a live selection with either of our last two picks - might as well submit these now then ;)

Pick 91 - Beijing: SAM GRAY (ROOKIE UPGRADE)

Pick 95 - Beijing: PASS

Oh shower have I confused myself here??

Sam Gray is on our senior list, and after his promotion we still have two free spots on the list? Awesome if so :)

Sweet! No no all good Oz, just didn't realise that you had already factored in that rookie promotion, in that case we'll probably be taking Pick 91 and passing on 95 so that we have a PSD pick :)

Not far away from finishing :) Just the 3 clubs left with live picks.

We will start the preseason after this draft, just give me a bit of time to make sure I've got the picks in order

With our last live pick we're gonna take someone that should just be a depth defender for us should we need him.

Pick 91 - Beijing: TED RICHARDS

And passing on Pick 95 so thats the draft done for us!
Title: Re: WXV International Draft 2014

Alrighty, feel some forward depth is an order. So will kick off with

James Podsiadly

Then, reckon I might take a risk on the injury-cursed

Josh Cowan

Also think a change of clubs means this guy won't be used as an under-sized key defender, and might get his hands on the ball

Kyle Cheney

And, seeing as it is only measly Pick 100, will get a guy just as old.

Dustin Fletcher

Lol our list is terrible and yet the NDT rejects...

Ross
Hartigan
Kelly
Edwards
Ellis-Yolmen
Cheney
JPod

All picked up

Plan was to re-rookie some of them though :-X

Well, I'm only 100% sure 2 of my better forwards will have forward status lol, so a little reassurance makes me feel better.

We considered him but our defenders are more thin than our fwds hence we took Ted Richards instead (who averages the same as JPod).

I saw that, was a very good pick that one.

wish dillos had a few more late ones as he would have been a guy I would have targeted. Just couldn't pass on number 16 in the draft.

Not sure if he can fit back but has been trialled up forward. Hopefully gets some games here and there but hard to displace the Bomber defence, unless Fletch is rested!

Very nice picks Purp, especially late. Pods/Fletch are great depth for the short term, I was actually considering Pods because could use the forward depth boost, and think you guys could use them well with your midfield strength ;).

Cheers HP, I hope I don't have to play Pods though :P

If Fletch keeps up his 80 average, which i was surprised he had, he'll play some handy games for me. They are also just mere picks in the 90s, I doubt there would have been future young guns to pick anyway, so thought I may as well  :)
