Bombers have the better team on paper but which Roos team will run out on Saturday night?

Very nervous if we lose I just hope it's close

I'm hoping the players will be very motivated after being booted last year

How exactly do you figure this one out? I'd have to say they're quite equally matched sides...

North been the better team throughout the course of the season but it's finals football, who knows what can happen. One would imagine it would be a close contest.

Tried not to let my North 2nd Bias come out Rooboys and state what I thought. I hope North are on their game from the start and if they are I think they will win but we have seen over the season different North from week to week.

Kayne Turner keeps his spot in the side, good on the young fella!
Will be interesting to see who goes to let the 5 back in that were rested

Both sides can put in under par efforts at times but lean towards the Roo's. Not an easy one to pick tbh for me.

North Melbourne will win this, just think they're too classy for the Bombers, and have more depth across the ground.

The only way the Bombers have a chance is if Goddard/Watson really dominate.. Carlisle will be sorely missed too.

North by 9 points.

1st quarter: vs carlton (first one)
2nd quarter: vs carlton (second one)
3rd quarter: vs hawks or cats
4th quarter: vs eagles

if we could replicate those performances for each quarter we'd beat anybody in the comp, maybe even just 3 of the quarters :3

Fantastic quarter by the boys, hopefully we can run away with it in the second half.

Dys super as always, backline and midfield as strong as ever, and Daniher has been great up forward.

27 points is a very nice buffer, can't get too confident though.

Reported for what? If anything he deserves a free for the Essendon player sliding
exactly. what ever happened to that rule

I just said this on chat ^^
Should have been a free to Greenwood
Greenwood made contact with Baguely after he had reached the ball and finished sliding

What is Greenwood supposed to do jump over him so he doesn't get grass-cutted?

Mate, no team that hasn't choked gives up a 33 point lead a third of the way through the 3rd Quarter to lose at Full Time by 2 goals. The Roos didn't rip that out of the Bombers hands, the Bombers gave it to them and they accepted.

Ran out of legs. Just could not defend like we did in the first half.

Same problem he have had for 10 years, cannot run out of games.

Because of this the likes of Wells, Greenwood, Atley and Wright split us open and savaged us on the counter-attack.

Better team for the whole four quarters won, but this is nearly as bad a loss as the '99 Preliminary final.

Wow, what a clash. It had it all!

Just going off all the key statistics they were showing on the big screen at the ground, everything was ridiculously close except for one key statistic that at one stage North were dominating, being marks. Obviously that had a bit to do with the chipping around the defensive half early, however, I think Grima and Scotty Thompson were exceptional tonight, despite Daniher kicking a few goals those two were time and time again taking intercept marks, repelling Essendon attacks and taking the game on, which in turn opened up North's preferred style of play with quick overlap run.

Although I wasn't convinced by him and Jacobs going in, I think Sam Wright played a fantastic game, particularly in the second half he lifted with a great 3rd term. Certainly will hold his spot next week.

Brown great stuff, have North finally found the right 3 pronged tall attack? Although Black's form has been down, he's too dangerous a player to not pay attention to. Will cause some headaches for teams as to who takes Brown/Black, with Petrie taking the number one defender out of the game.

Great win, excited to welcome a refreshed Boomer back next week. Not many harder tasks than coming up against Geelong in a cutthroat final, but its a chance to get more finals experience into the team and hopefully really push them. Should be a fantastic game!

PS Nice to see Ryder play alright in his last game at the club..wonder how many will be joining him

PS Nice to see Ryder play alright in his last game at the club..wonder how many will be joining him
Summed it up well RooBoys.

Mate the 1st half Essendon smashed us, and we looked ordinary, but once we got that run back, things turned quickly.  Our second halves have been great this year, maybe the fitness has picked up, but when we take the game on we are at best.

Were on the right track.  Good times ahead.

Great game, loved it!

Norf clearly the better team. If they play like they did in the 2nd half, Geelong should be very worried.

I could rant forever but tl;dr flower you north melbourne you're a team of dickheads but you're a team of dickheads who deserve to be playing a semi-final, except for Lindsay Thomas the flopping cow.

Daniher and Heppell confirmed next GOATs.

When Hirdy comes back and with Hooker, Hibberd, Zacka, Myers, Baguley, Colyer, Ryder/Belly/whatever ruckman we have, Howlett etc developing we'll go further in September.

Hirdy coached a very young team to almost finals and then 7th last year - the same team Knights got sacked with - and has barely any coaching experience. I'd love bomber to stay on as an assistant, but I'm 100% confident that Hirdy is the man to lead us into the future with success.

Another thing I just remembered, leaving the ground I mentioned that I don't think I saw anyone besides Goldy compete in any ruck contests for North, he seemed to be everywhere...checking the stats this afternoon and this confirmed my belief, Petrie with 2 hit outs showing that he spent minimal time in the ruck, only the small portions of time that Goldy was off the ground, what a beast

Yeh agree JD was good, i think what we all like mate is that a first year player dragged them back into the game. Probably overshadows JD's efforts because the Roo's were able to get up and win but yeh JD deserves some accolades also.

Brown doesn't drop chest marks.

Seriously though, once Daniher learns to throw his big frame around a bit more and crash some packs he'll be hard to stop. Just seems to try and mark the ball by throwing his arms at the ball now, rather than throwing his whole body. A good instance in I think the 3rd or 4th qtr Greenwood was going back with the flight running into Daniher's path towards the ball, Joey really should have come right through, cleaned him up and taken the mark as he was in pole position. Instead, he shirked the contest, not commiting fully, the ball hit the ground and North cleared. I love Greenwood but all good key forwards would have (legally) polaxed him in that situation.

Look at the stats guys, they were almost identical.  ;) Brown obviously got hyped more because North won. Personally I only saw Joey attempt a few chest marks and the only key one was a drop in the final quarter but the match was fairly in Norths control by then. Not saying Brown getting all the hype is a bad thing, gives Joey a little breathing space.

Its not all about stats though mate! (cough, Stanton).

Brown's third quarter was game changing, inspired North to victory hence why he's rightly getting a huge pump. Plus like Grazza said he's a first year fella who just does good things :P

Brown set up a Petrie goal off his own chest and foot.

Brown took crucial chest marks in a crowded 50 while Daniher just out ran his 1 on 1 in an empty forward 100  :P

Not sure what all the fuss is about...for a North supporter who really doesn't like Daniher, at all, its hard to argue Brown's a better player than him already, he's only played 9 games after all.

Maybe we'll reassess this time next year

In terms of impact on the game, both played well however I felt Brown stood up more when his side needed it and dragged North back into the game.
