2nd Continental Cup
Well, for 10 WXV teams, the competition has close :( So...
The WXV Continental Cup!
AMERICAS: Buenos Aires, Mexico City, New York, Sao Paulo, Toronto
EUROPE: Berlin, Dublin, London, Moscow, PNL
AFRICONIA: Cairo, Cape Town, Pacific, Wellington
ASIA: Beijing, New Delhi, Seoul, Tokyo
Is the competition fair and even? God no, but should provide a bit of fun as the Worlds best face off against each other.
.... of course if there is no interest, we will let the competition fold. Worth a try I think!
How does it work - the coaches of the Worlds team get together to decide how to select the best XV for the week. The highest ranked coach is captain, and gets the final say (if captain being unreasonable we'll look into that). This is an EIGHT week competition, everybody playing everybody home and away (with HGA in force).
Round 1 (AFL Round 20)
Americas v Europe
Africa/Oceania v Asia
(Choose your XV from the 10 WXV teams not playing in World finals, 18 AFL teams)
(I realise that the Americas could be severely disadvantaged here - Only New York available. Cross that bridge when we come to it. Coaches playing World Finals Do not get a say in how teams are selected officially).
Round 2 (AFL Round 21)
Americas v Asia
Africa/Oceania v Europe
(Choose your XV from the 14 WXV teams not playing in World finals, 18 AFL teams)
Round 3 (AFL Round 22)
Americas v Africa/Oceania
Asia v Europe
(Choose your XV from the 14 WXV teams not playing World finals, 18 AFL teams)
Round 4 (AFL Round 23)
Europe v Americas
Asia v Africa/Oceania
(Choose your XV from 16 WXV teams not playing finals, 18 AFL teams)
Round 5 (AFL Finals Week 1)
Asia v Americas
Europe v Africa/Oceania
(Choose your XV from 18 WXV teams, 8 AFL teams playing finals)
Round 6 (AFL Finals Week 2)
Africa/Oceania v Americas
Europe v Asia
(Choose your XII from 18 WXV teams, 4 AFL teams playing finals) <-- note 12 players not 15. 3D, 3M, 1R, 3F, 2I
Preliminary Final (AFL Finals Week 3)
2nd v 3rd
(Choose your XII from 18 WXV teams, 4 AFL teams playing finals) <-- note 12 players not 15. 3D, 3M, 1R, 3F, 2I
Grand Final (AFL Finals Week 4)
1st v winner of Prelim
(Choose your IX from 18 WXV teams, 2 AFL teams playing finals) <-- note 9 players not 15. 2D, 2M, 1R, 2F, 2I
Earlying again.

Think something may need to be worked out for Americas though Oss Not sure what. Is there scope for NY to pick from the reserves from the other teams.
How do we go about naming a ressies side for finals if our 1s aren't in the finals? are all players qualified?

Just New York players for them unfortunately, it'll even out as the competition progresses :(

Only thing I am against Coaches doing this is that they may name an "under-strength" XV, so their reserves will be stronger if coming against a team that's in the finals (e.g. PNL with Marseilles) so we're forced to play strongest team while other teams like Pacific/New Dehli have nothing to gain from naming a weak XV to improve Reserves.
And this time Cape Town have no HGA so prepare to lose again >:D.

Yeh maybe there should be something like a player must have played 4 ressies games to qualify for finals, like in most real life comps
Despite beating them in the GF last year the Suns hold the wood over me with a 4-2 record (I think). Not as bad as the Pumas 5 - Dillos 0 record though ;)
However will need everything to go right for me this week to pick up the upset victory. Oh how I wish GAJ wasn't injured :(

Probably the biggest rivalry in the Game, with the Leagues 2 Premiers facing off for 7th time! They are currently averaging over 2 meetings a year.
The Suns will again start favourites, but the Pumas will be heartened by its last round, scoring impressively without Ablett for the first time this season. You get the impression that someone at the Pumas will need to stand up to face off against the consistency of the Suns.

Dublin averages a healthy 10 more points than Buenos Aires... but that number increases to 19 if you look at the last 5 weeks. Buenos Aires' first 7 rounds averaged 155 to be premiership favourites, but since then have struggled quite a bit with Dublin taking that mantle.
Dublin's first final, while Buenos Aires with an ageing know its time is now. Dublin will be hard to beat.

Both teams have been inspirational this year at times, with the Reindeers finally living up to potential (before heartbreakingly missing out on top 4 by percentage) while Cape Town looked down and out before a late season surge saw them slip into the 8. Averaging nearly the same over the last 5 weeks, it would really be a lost season if the Reindeers fall at the first hurdle having won 8 of its last 9. Cape Town have fallen a long way since making the Grand Final in 2012, can they give it another shake?

Moscow are on a 3 finals losing streak, while Toronto's finals record isn't much better. Moscow have flirted with greatness all year, while Toronto recovered valiantly after a 0-4 start to the season. The first time these 2 teams meet in finals, with the greatest encounter being Moscow pipping Toronto by a point in 2013 Round 9.

Hmmm...Paddy Ryder want to take over the captaincy this week?
Hopefully Pendles improves on last weeks score by about 30 points, doesn't he realise that he is expected to completely carry this club?

Must be a lot of pressure must be getting tired, I think the younger Rocky could carry that burden .
Come to Dublin pendles we have a lot of guys to share the load.

Lets see if he can repeat his GF heroics ;).

Haha lol, think I saw ossie saying somewhere we might have a rules vote at some point to make the sub rule an opt-out thing next year, which I reckon is the way to go seeing as most people want it but simply forget.
last 5 or so weeks I've had a feeling Dildos would be useless, Dildos were useless.
This week I feel a huge score coming on. Dublin are done. Out in straight sets.
This isn't a promising start to our first Finals match ever :(. Tank got subbed, Myers doing OK and Zerrett has only played the 3rd quarter score wise...

Blow for Dublin, with Hansen a late withdrawal, now having to cop Grigg's 55. That'll help the Dillos.
Also bad for Toronto with Greenwood also a late withdrawal, will Young lift for the occasion? You'd think Moscow would be happy about that out.

grigg has killed me all year, was supposed to be a 85+ back up player. My gut said give E1 to Irish boy Sheehan, who is looking good. Would have been way too risky though.
NDS is letting me down big time when i need him but at least Goldy is himself.

Massive blow indeed, been one of my better and most consistent performers all season. Don't think Ward's 77 will really have too strong an impact on the result Jukes so I wouldn't stress. Barring a huge one from Pendles you're sitting pretty comfortable at the minute.
Funnily enough I actually had a strange hunch that Grima may play...strongly considered naming him at D2 but hopefully the guys I did name can outscore his 62 anyway.

#gocobrasgo
Lynch was on fire, then gets hurt :(. Scored 80 points in less than a half :o. But with the sub rule he goes out and we get Casboult.... Back to unlucky PNL :(.
Good game Cobras, too good when it mattered :(.

[Pumas have hit the lead, with Sloane and Jacobs having massive games.
Down to
Suns - Sidey (CC), Hurn, Nroo + HGA
Pumas - Armstrong, Stringer, Minson, Masten + 65.5
If my calculations are right, it's now
Suns - Sidey (CC) 130.5, Hurn 29, Nroo 88 + HGA 53 = 300.5
Pumas - Armstrong 40, Stringer 126, Minson 60, Masten 45 + 65.5 = 336.5
So Pumas, have a 36 point lead, with scaling in the Dogs/Saints game and a half left in the Pies/Eagles game.

Thriller.......
Sloane, Jacobs and Stringer I love you!!! :-* Minson not so happy with >:(
Holy flower Priddis is trying to undo all the bad work the rest of the PNL players have done this weekend.
Cooney's 139, Higgins 109 and a late revival from Gwilt (subbed on for Pittard) should be enough but still...
15 point lead to the Pumas now, c'mon Sidey bring us home.
Sidey CC + Hurn
V
Masten + Armstrong + 15 points
EDIT: This is with Goodes' 53 as HGA.

Imagine if Lynch didn't go down injured, scored 80 within a half of footy and was on fire :(. Kinda threw our chances but Priddis is keeping our score respectable!
Sidey 141 atm!
Full time! Pre scaling has me at 1650 to Suns 1638 (I think). Still 44 points to be allocated though so very concerned that Sidey will get plenty more...
No surprises Masten the squib starts getting the ball when the game is over.
Think he may have got the Pumas over the line :-\
I love this game sometimes - thrilling finals!
If my calculations are correct I've lost by about 20 points....Steven Morris' 28 in the place of a regular 90+ from Greenwood seriously hurt.

*Harry Potter joke...
Okay so looks like I need scaling to be nice to me to the tune of 25 points :-\
I don't know who to blame, Greenwood for missing the game, Young for being the sub, or Morris for scoring 28. Or, more likely, myself for having Morris an emergency.

Oh yeah, you're right I had Goodes as HGA still, not Hurn.
Sidey scaled up by 2, same with Hurn. Masten scaled up too, so Pumas win :'(
16 point loss, you are bloody kidding me....hopefully I've done some incorrect calculations because I'm fuming if not.
Losing in an elimination final on HGA/My second emergency being required after my starting midfielder and his replacement both were unavailable. Not to mention missing 5 of my best 15 right at the pointy end of the season. Very very frustrating
Guess this just proves Toronto need to make changes to get out of this horribly unsuccessful finals run.
I flowering hate Sloane and Jacobs.
Congrats HB, don't know how you pulled that off!
6 point win I think :D
Clearly I'm just the better side haha ;)
Pumas in Greatest WXV Match?
Now that was a classic.
2 great rivals, playing each other in yet another final!
4 players scoring 160 or more (Lewis, Waite, Sloane, Jacobs) and Sidebottom with a 145!
Throws the competition wide open! And the odds have drastically changed for the flag, as the Pumas now in the box seat for another Grand Final.
Rory Sloane's 172 wins the Medal, but Jacobs effort as captain makes you wonder if the Pumas even need Ablett!
Mexico City Suns (25.14.164*) lost to Sao Paulo Pumas (25.15.165)

Just a mere 1461 for Europe.
Cobra Dream, Reindeer Nightmare
Cape Town still keep defying the odds, and while Matt Priddis did his best for PNL, the Cobras proved too strong for PNL.
PNL's season can only be described as a waste (I knew that first round loss to Seoul would hurt them!).
Cape Town's reward? A replay of the 2012 Grand Final against Mexico City!

New York (I mean Americas) no match for Europe
The Americas didn't have a great talent pool to choose from, and only Adam Treloar was up the challenge. Good news is that they'll have the Toronto and Mexico City squads to choose from next week!
The Europeans where solid enough, with Captain Nat Fyfe the best on ground.

Figured we'd get beaten by a monster score. Cape Town won the double header when it mattered. Not playing Patton and Lynch getting subbed out hurt us and generally a few guys underperforming. Can't complain as we made finals for the first time ever. Wish it went on longer but at least I don't have to resign this off-season.
At least Europe will now have PNL added to their squad of players to choose from ;). And hoping Marseilles get that Premiership in the Reserves, deserve something this season!

Would also like to point out the brilliant work of Buntine who as mentioned earlier loves playing Mexico City in finals, as well as Tony Armstrong! Is it correct that he's played two games against us?
If so, he averages 98.5 against Mexico, compared to his average of 52.7 when not playing against MCS.
What the flower.

Sao Paulo, Mexico City, either way, America's could be a pretty strong side this weekend I'm feeling!
Good to see the reserves earn the week off, with the highest score of the round mind you. Praying they can bring some respect to the club for season 2014. If Grima, Greenwood, Pedersen, Henderson can return to the senior side over the next two weeks that would help strengthen the twos.

Some huge scores this weekend! Pretty sure that 158 is our highest of the season.
Rough luck PNL, have been the better team all year.

Happy we finally made the finals, took out the Dillos/Destroyers and pushed Pumas quite a bit for that top 4 spot. So bringing out a lot of positives from the season. Now to hope you guys can go far in the Finals, although rougher task against Mexico :-X.
