Title: Round 14 - Giants v Blues - Sunday Jun 22nd - Spotless Stadium
Post by: Ringo on June 18, 2014, 05:39:21 PM
Giants coming off a strong win last week and will be anxious to show some strong form at home.  Will this be enough to get up over the inconsistent Blues?

Being a Giants home game makes this interesting. A strong victory last week could see the GWS boys up and about, Carlton could be in a bit of trouble here I reckon.

Jamo needs to comeback but even with Hendo & Jamo out last week, we were very good for three quarters and played great against Geelong a couple weeks ago but got robbed. Think Giants will come out hard but I'll tip the Blues.

But this is the time of game we would choke.

Carltons list is possibly in the worst shape of any team.

Scotland retired.. Judd, Wait, Simpson, Carrazzo all gun players on the wrong side of 30.
Losing betts last year, using a large chunk of cap space on daisy who is past it.
If Gibbs decides to go they are stuffed.

Yep ignore all our young good players. Anyway, why bring this up on a Giants vs Carlton thread randomly?

Not doubting you have some good young talent but my point was that your top end talent is old so it's going to create some lean years for Carlton while the younger crop come through

We're to slow through the middle. All our guys with pace are playing deep forward or deep back. Simmo, Yaz and Walker need a run through the guts.

So I'm just wondering the logic behind playing Jamison on Boyd, and Rowe on Patton. Surely being the more experienced defender Jamo should go to the more dominant (at least for the moment) forward in Patton? Patton has looked very good so far

Malthouse also played Rowe on Tom Hawkins instead of Jamison vs. Geelong. Pretty poor coaching

There'd be a fair few reason's but one could be to develop Rowe faster. Much like Mackenzie will be given the #1 fwd in the past and Glass would only be swapped onto that fwd if needed. Now Mackenzie is a very solid defender

Yeah me either, I realise he has a great record but he certainly hasn't in the top 4-5 coaches for the last decade or so.

Mumford is such a good tackler, he'd be be the best ruckman bar none if he didn't have weird back injuries all the time

For those not watching, Bugg is going with Simmo, but Simmo has spent most of the game deep forward or deep back. Giants are busting Carlton open with speed and quick ball movement through the middle but Carlton have guys like Yarran, Walker and Simmo playing deep forward or back.

Dennis is going to be subbed on, hopefully it is someone like Brock because we need the pace.

Richmond had Cotchspud pick 2, Martin pick 3, Vickery 8, Conca 6, Ellis 15, Vlastuin 9 and Lennon 12.

There were no real tags/run with roles by the Blues. They had Everrit running with Shaw early but other then that nothing.

While our recruiting has been poor in that time frame, you guys have had better draft positions over the same time frame and done zip. At least we have managed to win a couple of finals and lose to GWS

Yeah that's true but you forgot one bit :)

Haha I think this is the main point that we need to think about here. But Richmond beat Carlton, and you've now lost to GWS so idk if you can say you are less shower :P

well, giants now have 4 wins and are sitting above 4 teams on the ladder, so maybe we're not the best barometer for failure.

And if we were, carlton fans should be sweating since we've got the same points as you- you could very well join the trash with richmond- you don't have many easy wins left :P

But we beat you? Oh wait...you are still higher on the ladder, my apologies.

See how that works Richmond fans. The ladder is all that matters.

From what I see, you guys are equal last, we are not. :P
