Title: Round 6 - Saints v Lions - Friday 25th April
Post by: Ringo on April 23, 2014, 02:56:50 PM
Conditions may dictate the style of game to be played.  Will the Saints continue on their winning way or will Lions get their first win? Lions will be bolstered by the return of Merrett, Hanley and green but who will curb Riewoldt in career best form?

Cant see Brisbane winning this. Saints playing good footy under Richo and Nroo is the #1 forward in the game at the moment.

Who normally goes to NRoo from Brissie? Does Merrett have the legs? Think NRoo could have another day out

Merret will have to be the man but I don't think it would matter who played on Roo atm. He is in some serious form

Merret does not have the legs to run with Roo. Do not be surprised if we give Cutler the role has the ticker to run with him and only giving away 3cm in height.

If Cutler does go to Nroo I'll be bringing them both into my fantasy team haha

Will be interesting to see if Raines comes in to the side as well, perhaps to replace one of our young rookies. We've been quite competitive in most of our games, just fall away late in the 3rd, and then get blown out in the last quarter (down by 1 against Hawks midway through 3rd, competitive all game against Cats, down by 8 midway through 3rd against Suns, up by a goal midway through 3rd against Tigers). That tends to happen with such a young and inexperienced team, and injuries have definitely hurt us so far this year. Merrett, Hanley, and Green will make a pretty big difference here. Hoping Rocky has a field day, picked up something like 38 possessions against the Saints last year IIRC.

I can see the game being really close for the first 3 quarters, whether or not we can hang on for the remainder of the game is a different story. Lions by 8 points :)

All our games this year but the Q Clash were against top 8 sides last year, where as you've only played 3 games against top 8 sides last year and lost to Melbourne.

Win for the Lions coming up.

St Kilda will win by plenty. Brisbane need to find something.

We will Aaron and do not be surprised if we cause the upset.  Hopefully the area of concentration for a full quarter is getting through and we concentrate for the full 4 quarters In all but one of our games we have been competitive but getting blown away by points in time on so if that is addressed we can win. (162 points so far for season in time on over 5 matches is disgraceful)

@stkildathunda: News from Saints training: Tom Hickey didn't train with main group, looked to be bit ginger when walking. Sam Fisher didn't train at all.

Hoping Hickey gets up, was hoping to keep him until his bye.

Wow that's crazy Ringo, 162 points in time on his just huge. Do you think that's a fitness thing (not being able to run out quarters) or just inexperience and lack of focus?

Title: Re: Round 6 - Saints v Lions - Friday 25th April
Post by: Ringo on April 24, 2014, 09:17:54 PM
Money I would say 3:34pm.

Lucky in Qld as all three games tomorrow are Free to air.

@toga just concentration lapses I think with the inexperience.  Senior players have highlighted it is costing us 30 points at least a agme.  Look at our match against you we were in front at the 20 minute of 3rd quarter but you got the  next 5 goals before three quarter time.  Just using this as an example of where we are really falling down.
Title: Re: Round 6 - Saints v Lions - Friday 25th April
Post by: Toga on April 24, 2014, 10:53:50 PM
Yeah understand mate it would be very frustrating for coaches & supporters. I guess with a lot of new guys in your team though the younger heads would have more concentration lapses than more experienced teams, and probably don't have the legs to run out quarters as hard as the more experienced teams.

Hopefully you can get it sorted out!

Rumours starting to surface that Merrett may be used forward to start game. Makes sense if you look at keeping Gardiner in the side so may be a surprise switch.

Yeah been some discussion in the Lions team board, Taylor is probably most likely IMO. Green also a candidate, along with some of the other rookies in Cutler, Aish, Robbo

Curren tagging Rocky

Riewoldt fell heavily in the first quarter and injured knee so do not know whether that is slowing him down but Patful is also running with him and matching him in the air.

Thanks Brad - pleased to see we finally did not buckle in red zone time which has been one of our problems.  Still have issues but I think in the end we more perhaps more desperate for the win as evidenced by some efforts in the last 5 minutes.
One thing for certain with the Saints though they are leaving egg on most peoples face as they were one of the picks to finish last.

yep been impressed with our start mate. our draw gets pretty tricky in the second half of the season fron memory so I've gotta enjoy it while I can.

both clubs rebuilding, already have some good youngsters on their lists so I'm looking forward to the battles we have in the future!

The efforts of out dues best and Fairest in quelling the influence of Nroo should not be underestimated. Patfull I believe is very under rated outside Brisbane.  Nroo has been outstanding for Saints this sason and this effort imo also contributed strongly to the win.

Both clubs have an exciting future as they are rebuilding but we seen glimpses of the future on display Dunstan, Billings, Aish and Taylor will be stars in the future.
