Hawks by 7. Really think Brissie will be similar to North of 2013. Super competitive but just falling short in beating the A Grade sides

Could be closer than some might think, Brisbane won't fall apart as bad as they did in NAB1.

Hawks by 130.

Hawks with half their backline out, thankfully coming up against a fairly weak attack. Brisbane do have a win against Hawthorn at Aurora but in the last three have conceded an average of 122 points while only scoring 63 themselves. I predict a similar outcome with a 9 goal win.

Langford has more of a chance playing IMO and if both get named is the more likely one to stay and cement his spot in our team. Outstanding preseason!

http://www.lions.com.au/news/2014-03-19/hawks-missing-stars

"THE HAWKS will be without seven premiership players for their season opener against Brisbane on Saturday but defender Grant Birchall says the side has the depth to cover the missing stars.

Ben Stratton and Brad Sewell won't play due to hamstring injuries sustained two weeks ago, Brian Lake and Cyril Rioli are suspended, Brent Guerra and Max Bailey have retired while Lance Franklin departed for Sydney under free agency rules."

Something for those who are considering huge margins to consider together with the fact there will be a minimal change to Brisbane's line up that finished the season strongly.

Yes Toga - our first aim this year I believe would be to avoid the blowouts we had last year and keep our % closer to 100 and that imo given our draw which is recognised as hardest in the comp would be a pass mark for Leppa in first year.

Collingwood had a good first quarter too.... ;D

Seriously though, Hawthorn not quite as crisp on attack as 2013 yet. A few new guys and changed roles. Might take a few weeks to get cranking to full speed

Playing half forward on the wing on the left side of the oval in the first quarter and taking whoever is hbf which has rotated through rich, golby etc. Not really on the ball which is worrying for the shiels owners like myself :/

Rockliff tagging Mitchell and as Rocky dominated in the first quarter, Hawks sent Mitchell deep back, so he kept Rocky out of the game, which is flowering terrible for my SC. I don't understand why you'd put your best player on Mitchell.

I would have gone Big Boy around that price, especially when I saw Trent West named. I tried to convince my mate to get Leuenberger out of his team for that reason, he thought he would back him in, even though it looks like he could spend more time up forward and sharing ruck duties.

You gotta back him in and just hope the coach doesn't get him to tag all season. If Raines comes in you would expect him to have a more offensive role in the side. He also showed you exactly what he is capable of in the first quarter. I would have started with Jobe ahead of him but I wouldn't be bringing in Cotchin or Libba on 1 game

Talking about Rocky right? Why would you trade out a premium after one game? Surely Leppitch wouldn't waste him tagging every week? Has the whole footy world gone crazy? Round one does this every year.

But I love it! Haha!

Interesting - Down on Rocky but very few down on Mitchell who scored less. How many noticed that Mitchell drew Rocky further back after the first quarter an obvious decision made at 1/4 time.

From a Brisbane perspective very encouraging signs for the year. Couple of observations though

1. We still can niot buy a free kick Favoured Hawthorn 18-12 and still yet to win a free kick count when McInerney is an umpire. I observed at lease 5 free kicks in the third and last quarters that should have been paid but were not.
2. Kicking has not improved - We are still very wayward with shots on goal. A couple missed in third quarter were crucial when we may have been in front.

There are 2 reasons for this is that

1. Rockliff is picked as a premium mid and you want him pushing a 110+ average at his price, Mitchell on the other hand would have been picked as a defender. Most premo defenders in years past averaged around the 100 mark, both were about 15 points off that marker but that leads to my next point
2. Rockliff spent tons of time up forward and was tagging. One of the major crosses against Rockliff as a mid only the last couple of seasons was the amount of time spent up forward effecting his scores. Most of that time spent down forward was in a defensive role which is not very SC friendly so I can see why people would be down on his performance compared to Mitchell.  I can't see him tagging Selwood next week and you would expect him to spend most of the game in the middle against the Cats, but if he does play that role again a lot of people would be spewing they picked him.
