No, I heard Clark and Hogan are both out.
Looking forward to see our new recruits, a few of them are a chance to line up in round one.

Yeah, think he's a chance to play the second game though iirc.
Oh thats good thought he was out for longer.
That Tigers squad has nearly all the players I wanted to see, the only exclusion being Arnot, but he's still recovering from injury.
These are some of the guys that will be missing for us: Arnot, Conca, Dea, Grimes, Jackson, King, Knights, Maric, O'Hanlon, Petterd, Jroo and Thomas.
While Dees are missing Hogan, Salem, Dawes, Viney, Clark, Kent, Garland, Riley, Tapscott, Gawn and Jamar.
No hogan?

Don't think he was ever going to play the first one still not 100%
For supercoach I'm looking forward to seeing how JKH, Georgiou, King and Barry go.
JKH is in almost all of our forward lines so hopefully he plays well enough to be in line for a round 1 debut.
Georgiou is rookie listed but might get upgraded following Aidan Riley's move to the LTI list. He is a bargain basement defender so would be a handy addition to our SC teams if he plays well enough to warrant round 1 selection.
King is a ruckman who is also rookie listed but I think it's very doubtful that he will play round 1 as the Dees are expecting many senior players who can ruck to be available for round 1. Jamar, Gawn and Fitzpatrick are expected to be fit for round 1 and Clark may even be back for round 1 as well. Spencer is the only 100% fit ruckman on the senior list at present.
Barry came to the Dees as part of the trade that landed Jesse Hogan. At this stage I don't think he's likely to play round 1 but a good showing in the NAB challenge could change that.

Roos has said that both Hogan and Dawes will be fit for the second NAB game.
Damn pity that Salem isn't named, any concerns on his fitness?
Will be keeping my eye on Brandon Ellis, Sir Viv and JKH. And will be interesting to see where Jack Grimes plays? Half Back or through the midfield.

No concerns on his fitness and played well in the low key intraclub match.
I expect that he will play in the 2nd NAB match.

Grimes has been training all pre-season with the defenders and Roos has said that he wants Grimes to be playing off a half back flank this year so I think it is highly likely that he will line up in defence on Friday night.

Ok cheers for that. I think will still be a good pick as long as he can keep himself fit. The ball will be down that half enough this year. :P

I agree. I have Grimes in my side at the moment and think he can go 95 or above this season.
He seems to be past his niggling injuries. Missed a chunk of games last year after getting slammed into the ground and breaking his collarbone. Would have happened to anybody who hit the turf as hard as he did. in 2012 he missed one game only.
Lots of rookies and cheapies named in both sides that is what we want to see surely at least one or two are going to play round 1 :)

Roos has said that Salem will be lucky top play a few games this year, as he doesn't want to rush his kids, like Toumpas last year.
So the Melbourne talls are Jake Spencer and Max King? Interesting
Max King is the early favourite to be used as a floating donut, so hope he doesn't do too well. ;D
Technically speaking, Spencer is the incumbent #1 Ruck as he got the lions share of hit-outs in rounds 19-23 last year.
Also I want to see if Dusty will line up in defence.
unearth us a backline and forward rookie please
Banfield, McDonough & Nathan Gordon are the three not playing tonight from the 29 man squad
Was really looking forward to seeing Gordon and McDonough but hopefully next game
Watts, Byrnes and Clisby out of @melbournefc's squad. Evans and Barry the subs.
Really wanted to see what Watts role is as well.

"Nobody cares about the NAB Challenge" :P
Melbourne do
Actually what is funny is that Paul Roos coached teams generally tank the pre-season comp and have never cared about winning these games.
flower yeah good finish by JKH(I think)

It was a good finish while getting tackled to the ground.
I know it is pre-season but Melbourne are looking good, they are certainly heading on the way up and more then anything they need to develop a winning culture, even if it does start with a couple of meaningless NAB challenge games.
Disposals Dees - 445 Tiges - 262 ouch did not see that coming lots of ups for the Dees maybe only Miles for the Tiges :-[
i think we all just locked in JKH as one of our forward rookies
Dom Tyson is going to be Melbourne's JPK. He just needs to add some polish, one of the clearances he had early in the game reminded me of Kennedy the way he swooped on the ball with the Richomond player hanging off him
If Michie and Tyson are fighting for a spot then it's first points to Viv. Tyson fell away completely in the second half. Ellis only 13DT after half time. Lennon 3 points after half time. McBean didn't score a point after the 6 minute mark of the first quarter. Cotchin with only 14 touches.
JKH didn't touch it for almost a half of footy but those three goals pushed him to a respectable score. Grimes wasn't too bad in the end. Terlich put his hand up as a legit POD and as mentioned before Michie was good with 19 touches, 8 marks and 4 tackles.
Paul Roos on JKH "he's one of those kids that forces you to play him because his training habits are really really good"
me likely
JKH was off though?

Good news, Roos normally doesn't play his kids early, but JKH could cement a spot in their 22. I like him as a fwd rookie.

Will need to see points per minute as players had their time managed throughout the game. I don't think JKH played at all in the third quarter. Tyson definitely disappeared for a while, but Mitchie may have too I think. Was good to see the talent of some of these kids but the scores aren't telling the whole story.

yeah, I mean he was probably just referring to playing him for tonight's game, but if he keeps it up there is every chance he'll be there round 1.
and if not round 1, definitely some time during the season
Get on Michie
Loved JKH but I still worry that playing as a forward pocket in a team that will be thumped most weeks isnt going to do him much good. Will show flashes of brilliance but maybe similair to Jake Neade last year where he can have games where he hardly goes near it
The neade comparison is valid but I thought he looked better than neade, really impressive. Melbourne need some speed and skill in the forward line. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it to round one. Another game or 2 like that and he's in.

I expect him to play round one as well but point scoring ability? Im thinking 50's. Just seems like that kind of player that wont get much of it but will do something brilliant every now and then
Pretty happy with what I saw tonight, especially from the young Melbourne players.
JKH = 99SC/69DT from 55% game time
Tyson = 38SC/56DT from 41% game time (16 possessions not bad in less than half a game, just needs to use it better)
Michie = 86SC/87DT from 58% game time
Interesting one is Jack Trengove, 121SC/130DT from just 64% game time, with paul roos as coach and the pressure off him as he is no longer captain he could be a breakout contender for those who like to take a risk.
I dont really like to look at supercoach scores in Nab because they arent accurate. You can just get a feel for which kids are going to make an impact by watching the games. JKH and Michie did enough to get my interest

+1 and I would add Tyson to that list... Kinda hoping Mitch Clark and Jesse Hogan stay down for a bit as I dunno what JKH's likelihood of keeping his position would be once they're fit but definitely showed promise. I haven't got JKH in my team simply because I didn't know if he would play but he would be in like flynn if he's named. Round 10 bye and looks pretty good,
if he cal play 8-9 games he'll be a winner of a cash cow. It's just that if is a very big one!
