Looking forward to seeing how Tom Langdon goes.

Have heard that he is in the mix to play round 1 and being a cheap backline rookie means that he could be a very handy addition to our teams.

No Kersten for Geelong is slightly ominous, I thought he was one of the best chances for a forward rookie to start...

He's been injured, so don't want to risk him early. He will play in either their second NAB Challenge match or their practice match.

Had it last year for games not on free tv. It was pretty good, probably not what you'd class HD. Had the occasional connection drop out but hey it happens.

On fox footy Chris Scott mentioned Burbury and McCarthy as sml fwds that could possibly push up in to midfield a bit. McCarthy in 3rd year but been unlucky with injury he said. Also said has been training well on track this preseason. For $123 and motlop out just another couple of players to put on the watchlist.

Jesus Guthrie and Caddy are relishing there chance in the midfield. So far they have been at some if not most of the centre bounces. Especially with Guthrie, does seem to be in a new midfield role, pretty sure I read an article that they want to use him there because of his clean and composed kicking.

Just some one liners of what i thought of watching tonights game. i know its the first match of NAB cup and shouldn't take to much off it but here's my two cents. plus i should note i am a Geelong supporter so maybe a little one sided.

CADDY IS GOLD!!!! he was a machine barg'in in and out of packs, around stoppages he got the ball out clean and made good decisions, and showed he was okay getting bloody for it. (hopefully no concussion ploys)

Varco looks in good shape better value of a player then what he was at last year. seemed motivated and desperate for the ball.

Such a Shame that Burbury got his jaw broken, by the way of DT points were going 40DT by the time he got injured before half time. was looking promising hopefuly can make some last minute cash from him before round 15.

Jack Frost is hope for collingwood's defense, give him another year he will be a great solid defender however not sure Supercoach wise though.

Beams looking solid however will be interesting to see once you add Swan in there.

Cloke looks fit i think he achieved what collingwood asked of him today. with the new marking rules i think this will work in his favour more then other players (pav excluded)

Good performance by Jesse White. will be good to see some attention taken away from cloke which will alow cloke to push outside the fwd 50.

Hawkins Kicking was 10/10 very happy cats fan to see that tonight.

Stevie J needs to go back to the basics, as a cats supporter its starting to annoy me just a little. <3

Enright playing on the back flank, with Bartel down forward more this year i think he will be the running back something along the lines of Andrew walker of last year. 30+ disposals  around 3/4 time, and is looking like he had a very intensive running preseason. i am watching closely.

Jamie Elliot is a good decision maker good overhead mark, for $390k i see an avg of +75 and good return.

Anyone else like to add anything? :)

Thanks.

collingwood does look like it has the best midfield in the game Beams swan ball pendles sidebottom and i recon by years end you will be able to add in adams and elliot.  you would be crazy not to have  beams in your starting team, however trying to fit in pendles and swan around bye structures is going to be a hard one ;)

Not sure about Caddy.  Only finished up with 61SC points (you can find this on fox sports match centre).  Hawkins similarly only go 71 SC points, despite kicking 4 goals.

Frost will need to be elevated off the rookie list to be SC relevant, and the Pies only had one spot which they gave to Hudson.  So Frost will need a long term injury to see any games this season.

One to consider though is Grundy.  63SC points after copping a heavy hit from Bartel early and missing about 20 minutes.  Apparently, according to the radio commentators, he looked a bit out of sorts when he cambs back on in the second game, but he did run out the game strongly.

Adams and Stokes could be good PODs in the midfield.  Only thing is the round 8 bye, and in the case of Adams, most people will already have Pendles and Beams who are musts IMO.  Can you fit 3 Pies in excess of $400k into the 1 midfield which is also likely to have Ablett and Martin from GC?

Ben Kennedy was also solid and should play a lot of games this year barring injury.  Could be an option for F5/F6?

For those stressing out about the low supercoach scores, im pretty sure its still going on a total supercoach score of 3,300 for the match and considering there are 8 extra players playing (52 instead of 44) then clearly the scores are going to be lower because when I added up everyones supercoach scores off fox sports match centre it added up to 2,550, therefore the players supercoach scores would actually be higher in the normal season if they played this way. Cheers.

Where did you get NAB Supercoach scores from? I have SC Gold but not on there?

In fact it only adds up to 2,853.

So if you add 14% to the scores (2853/3300) and then another 16% (8/52), the scores look much more realistic. E.g Beams would've got 134 for his 35 possessions, which seems better.

Good write up Ozd.

Only watched first half, recorded the second.
Caddy looked mint. Paused the play at every centre bounce and he seemed to start them all. Interesting to see if he starts in the guts when Jelwood and co come back but it was a very strong cats line up. Caddy back on my radar, everything he does is contested.
Guthrie and GHS looked very sharp. Think GHS could b a good pick up in our Draft games.

Can see cloke improving his average a little this year. Beams looked in cruise mode and I reckon should average 115+.

How did people think Hawkins back looked? He always looks a little lumbering

Good stuff from pendlebury considering he was subbed on mid/late 2nd quarter, thought grundy and caddy were better than scores suggest. Beams almost impossible to leave out. No one will start with Enright due to his age but could easy be top 10 defenders again.

Cats

Caddy was a contested possesion machine, looked very good.
Enright was the general up back, 30+ possessions
Hawkins was good, not great, good kicking for goal to take the most of his chances.
Stokes picked up nearly 40 touches but couldve been more damaging, maybe less mid time with others back
Stevie J was good in parts but threw in a few shocking disposals, youd be mad to pick him at his price
Bartel may play fwd, warning signs for his scoring if he does.
Rivers, 15 touches, 9 marks, keep half an eye on.
Simpson broke even in the hitouts, did little else.
Burbury, very good early before a horrible injury breaking his jaw, out for significant time, poor kid.

Pies

As a pies fan was very happy, a close loss but had more players out than cats and 5 first gamers compared to 0.
Sidebottom was good all night, but will again play second fiddle when swan, pendles and beams are all in the middle
Pendles, showed all the poise and class we know he has, second top SC after only being subbed on mid 2nd qtr.
Beams, 33 touches, top SC scorer on the ground, if you needed even more reason to pick him.
Elliot rotated through the mids and looked very good, 9 tackles, unlikely to get the same rotation with a full team tjough.
Adams, 30 touches, will be a great pick up, but 400k for a guy who wont be in the top 4 mids at the club is too much
Harry L, played on the wing, took the game with varied success, worth half f a look as a POD
Grundy, left the ground for a while with a slight concussion, but when he got going looked very good both in hitouts and round the ground, looking at closely.
Armatrong, got 20 touches but wasnt great, often looked rushed.
Langdon, solid but not in the play a lot, looks unlikely for rnd 1
Cloke, looked very dangerous early but 0 minutes in second half. New marking rule will help him more than anyone.
Young, very little gametime and looked rusty, but still keep an eye on.
Broomhead, appeared to have a broken hand, watch for news in coming day.

I took bugger all out of it. Only watch the nab cup for the kids and while burbury stood out to me that's now gone down the toilet.
Caddy on my radar but I couldn't really understand why the commentators felt the need to talk him up so much. He crashes and bashes but he also gets wrapped up and dumped every time he goes near it and and has poor awareness in heavy traffic. Currently have him at F4 but if I don't see some cleaner footy from him in the next 2 games then he's off my list.

Was good to have footy back but keep it in perspective guys. Half those blokes won't be out there in round 1

Hard to gauge the scores the way they are, looking forward to points per minute stats. Guess its good to just compare scores with other players in the game rather than look for 100's.
