Yes hahahha my wishes also! And AB I absolutely love him, he's a star!

Will be intriguing to see who wins out of Clarke & Warner v Amla & AB and Johnson, Siddle, Harris v Steyn, Philander, Morkel

We win those we in 3-0 simple as that.

Usually bats at 3 or 4.... so right on the cusp of being a top order/middle order.

There's no Cowan in the Aus team though.  ;D

Opened for the Renegades a few times, but that won't happen with Warner and Rogers in the team.

Luke Ronchi moved from Australia to New Zealand and managed to play. Pietersen would have to wait 4 years before he'd be able to legally play

Fastest player to 11000 runs I believe it was (beating Lara by 5 innings). Also puts him at equal 2nd (with Lara) on most double hundreds, behind Bradman.

A triple century against Bangladesh :/

Stats should be based on matches against the big 8.

.... except for Dizzy's double century.
Title: Re: Australia's Tour of South Africa.
Post by: Ringo on February 06, 2014, 09:32:41 AM
With the ICC forcing matches against developing countries stats to compare against the greats of previous eras will be very insignificant.  Also with the number of tests being played these days Total runs scored, centuries etc will also increase.

The only true comparison is Batting average over all tests and no one comes close to Bradmans 99.94 and Bradman played in the era of uncovered pitches as well.

Imagine what Bradman would have scored if he had more than the 80 tests available to him,

Back on subject though I think the result will be decided by which batting lineup handles the relative pace attacks better and hate to say it on current form South Africas batsmen appear more capable than our fragile top order. It was still there exposed by England and where would we have been without Haddin.

Only 3 of the top 100 scores of all-time in test cricket have been against Bangladesh. Sanga certainly deserves it one of the best wicket-keeper batsman of all time

he opens in T20 but that form shouldn't count towards test selection

1-4 is the Top order, so he is more or less a top order batsman....

Bowling is more or less the only thing Watson has going for him, so Doolan taking his spot and Watto moving down would be ideal.

I don't think Hughes will be in the first XI either, considering he's more or less a replacement for Marsh's spot in the selector's eyes

1-3 is top order

5-7 middle order
8-11 tail. Because there bowlers.

With the way Warner and Watson play number 4 is basically top order anyway.

Batting against the SA attack will be tough, so it's not a hard guess to say Doolan will be thrown in early to the innings at least once or twice...

Can tell you from the many years of cricket that this is not right. Why would the middle order as you call it not be in the middle???

The median of 11 is 6. 6 is therefore the middle one either side of this is 5-7. Therefore 5-7 is the middle order. From here you have a top and a bottom( or tail).

That is like saying 1-2 is top, 3-4 is higher order and blah blah. Just stupid. Ever heard the commentators say the tail is wagging when number 8 and 9 batstmen are in before?? plenty of times. ..
