Title: Jack Watts
Post by: shorty3264 on December 11, 2013, 06:07:32 PM
This man always creates a fierce debate. But for some reason I believe Watts is one day going to show us all why he was taken at pick number one and show his true talent. I must admit, I think 2014 he will. Where do you guys see him averaging, new coach, a great one at that. Move into the midfield and an all round improvement from Melbourne. With the forward line seemingly the toughest to select at this stage, Watts is more tempting. Is Watts simply a tease, or will he produce?

I think he can go 90-95 but I am to scared to pick him. :-\ :P

Spudddd. Watch him start the season on fire and then be playing in the VFL again by half way through the season

Nearly picked him last year, he could come good under Roos, but I'm not counting on it. I reckon he'll average low eighties.

I agree Vinny, on both levels. He is arguably the toughest player to select, and he's not even an injury prone player :P

Really quinny? Simply spud hey haha. Any reason, or just don't rate him.

im thinking this too, however i would prefer to not start him. If he comes out of the gates and pumps out 2 big scores early watch me jump on round 2.

something like simpson to watts and than spend the cash upgrading a premo to super premo elsewhere.

30 trades, wasting 2 is no big deal.

As stupid as this sounds I wished I picked him. It was out of Robbo and Watts for F4 and I went with Robbo, who scored 20 and then 80 so, and I ended up trading him, but missed the boat on JJK as I was unsure whether to trade him. Watts scored more than Robbo, I think and I would've traded Watts out straight away and then would've got JJK. Maybe I should pick Watts  :o.

Haha yeah mate just from day one When he got crunched by 3 collingwood players with his first touch I labelled him a spud haha.
Nah but really though I just think he's a gutless footballer. No drive or Go in him. I've met him him personally and watched him train and stuff and he acts like a 15 year old that thinks everything is a joke. He's done ok when they have sat him in the back line on no one but teams just make him accountable and he gets towled up. Roos is gonna try him in the midfield, just about the only position he hasn't played and I don't think he will  last long in there. I'm expecting an early season spike from him, and probably the team but like i said, by mid year it will be gone. Just my opinion but hard work beats talent every day and I don't think he has it in him

Fair call, I agree on pretty much all of that. He is a nightmare to watch, and gives off that casual look, as if he doesn't get, much like Andrew Mackie. But I must rate Roos that highly haha, I think he can get the best out of him. He is such a wild card

Will improve under roos and jump to around 90.  Still a no though.

hmmm - his avg was 64 pre bye and 84 post bye - he did show some signs in 2nd half of year and with Roos I expect him to have a more solid year - predicting 85 to 95 but still wont be a premium.

If you think he will go 90+ than you should pick him.

Monitoring.

Waters to watts a possibility

Everyone has to remember also that Jacky boy is only young and Brendon Goddard in his early years faced just as much scrutiny as people back then were calling him a spud #1 pick and now look where he is and how much he has acheived. Similar players in build and Jack can only get better.

At $411k you'd have to strongly consider. Might cop some slack but he did average 85 in 2012 so his upside is 90+ and with midfield time awaiting I can see it happening. Might reconsider my defence.

The kid will be a gun.... albeit outside contested footy. His casual look is horrible to watch, but he has a brain, great disposal, and just watch him take a stride in 2014

86-90, but he'll be too inconsistent to pick. I can see him pumping out the odd 30 amongst some tonnes.

Big watch tonight.
If he's playing in the midfield he could be a forward steal at $411k.
Could be my F4 but so could Gunston, Pav or Titchell. Finding it an interesting position to fill.

Just interested on how much mid time people think he'll get?

Off the top of my head there's Viney,Toumpas,N.Jones,M.Jones,McKenzie(tagger),Vince,Cross,Michie,Tyson....

I think Swallow is a better pick down back and there's too many options up forward for around the same price.

based on the final SC scores by foxfooty match centre, watts scored 47 and grimes scored 56 so watts must have been pretty inefficient considering he had 22 possessions.

Why even make a thread on watts? i have never considered him even once in the last few years..#1 draft pick counts for nought at afl level..you have to apply yourself.

what i made of it was melbourne liked to get the ball in his hands particularly early ... certainly looks comfortable as a midfielder but its just a bunch of uncontested possessions

I just cant bring myself to trust him enough for a spot in my team. Will be serviceable for melb and should improve under roos but think there is better options out there.

He doesn't like contested footy or tackling. He'll get heaps of pill but 90 is the very highest he'll go more like 80-85. He just bugs me watching him play. Rather Swallow for not much more.

Very frustrating as a Melbourne supporter seeing him get 0 tackles every third game
