Title: Jonathon Patton rumoured to the Dogs
Post by: _wato on October 03, 2013, 11:24:28 PM
AFL Latest Trade Rumours and Free Agency News on facebook:

"GWS's Patton has been linked to the Western Bulldogs for a couple of months, but discovered on SEN radio today that a deal could get done between the two clubs with GWS wanting Pick 4 from the Western Bulldogs."

This could be huge for the WB with the acquisition of Crameri. Patton and Crameri could see you in finals in the next 2-3 years.
Former number one but with plenty of injuries, what do you supporters think?

I think if this is real, WB should be all over it.

Wowee, with Stringer as a third tall becomes a very intimidating forward line. Although does this leave GWS a bit short for big forwards? I suppose it just opens the gate for a dual ruck system as I've seen mummy and Giles do some damage up forward at times. Also pick 4 should be a handy replacement for Adams if he does leave, I can see this deal happening,  :P

Not if the Giants keep pick 1 and pick up Boyd

Their tall forwards are then Cameron, Boyd, Tomlinson and the resting ruck. Patton becomes expendable with the injury clouds surrounding him, but if he stays injury free then both teams will likely win out of the deal. I think it's a good trade for both sides.

Ahh, cheers mat, I knew I'd forgot something, I can see both clubs fairly happy with this deal, gotta love this time of year,  ;D

I've been following these rumours over the last month and there were even talks about luring him to the kennel since last year. I lost all confidence in the trade when buddy decided to join the swans but this last information has got me excited again. It would be huge if we could get him with just pick 4 but I reakon we would have to give up a player aswell.

Surely Giants wouldn't let him go though... There very first #1 pick who will be a mega star one day. Doesn't seem likely to me

Rumoured to also be Dylan Addison the Dogs are giving upfront Patton now.

Yeah that's what I thought also! He wouldn't have enough value either I would've thought, very much a fringe player.

Wouldn't have thought it would be enough aswell. They can have Tutt or Wood :)

unless patton really wanted to go back to melbourne, I dont know why we would do this trade.

It wouldn't leave us too short- with mumford we can play giles up front, and with cameron/ boyd that's a decent forward line.

once again though, dont see why we would do it.

You can't play Mummy, Giles, Cameron, Boyd and Patton in the same team so one is surplus to your needs. One would be playing reserves, get frustrated and ask for a trade eventually anyway. Tomlinson and Jaksch are more than handy depth players so losing one of the big guys wouldn't hurt at all.

We went hard at Patton last year, and there have been constant rumours that he is wanting to return to Melbourne, despite him signing a contract extension.

So then it comes down to Patton vs Boyd.

Boyd has looked just as impressive as Patton in the under 18's. They're almost identical players.
Remember that Patton had to go overseas when he was first signed to get work done on his knee. 18 months later he does his ACL.

The Giants might be leaning towards keeping Boyd instead.

Word on the street is that they want pick #4 and Picken. I wouldn't be shattered if we did that but I'd prefer if we put reputations aside and persevered with Tom Campbell (who has shown as much as Patton at AFL level). It's not a coincidence that we improved as a team when Campbell came in. Michael Talia whooped Patton every time he played on him as a junior, so it's not like Patton is an unstoppable force. I see the potential in Jones, and with the addition of Crameri I think those 3 could be a formidable combo in 2-3 years time.

I hope we use pick 4 on Josh Kelly to replace Murphy as a running defender. Or Aish if he is available, play him on the wing and move Macrae to half back.

I thought that too just watching his short AFL career, but if you look back to his TAC Cup days, he played all over the place. He was given best or second best for his team on 4 occasions according to Sporting Pulse and only kicked more than 2 goals in one of those games. Apparently just a big bodied midfielder who can play forward.

Cheers for the insight meow.

Jason McCartney pretty much ruled out Patton and said theyd had no contact with his management despite a lot of large rumours.

Also spoke about Crameri and said a deal was still a long way off getting done. If bombers play to hard they'll lose Crameri for nothing, which is ridiculous hahaha. He's worth pick #22, nothing more IMO.
