It all comes down to this!
Who will win?
By how much?
Norm Smith winner?
Hopefully Freo win, Will be a close contest that's for sure.
Hawks by 8 points - Sam Mitchell norm smith
Would love Fremantle to win by 3 goals
Norm Smith: Nat Fyfe
Up the Dockers
Sandi to be the most influential but not get the medal, a midfielder to take it out.
I am going to say Freo by 4 points. :)
North Smith Medal: Nat Fyfe or David Mundy.
Hoping for an absolute ripper!
Hawks and Hodge or Roughy
Freo by 12 points Possibly more if they put in a 4 quarter performance like their second quarter last night.
Norm Smith Medalists Mundy will not happen as it usually goes to a midfielder but would love Pav to have a blinder and win the medal. Great servant with loyalty to the club and would be a great way to end career,
Hawks and Freo beat both Geelong and Sydney in the finals so anticipating a great game just hoping the nerves do not get to Freo in their first final and they lead to more inaccuracy in front of goal.
Hawthorn by 8, Sam Mitchell to get Norm Smith.
Should be a cracker!
Hawks to win by 16, although I would LOVE freo to win.
Birchall for Norm Smith!
Go Freo Freo!
Hawks by 12 points.
Gunston for Norm Smith! Bit of a smokie there ;)

Fyfe for Norm, Freo by 23, Hawks suck!
Norm Smith Crowley
Would love to see freo win by 2 goals
Have been waiting for this for too long!
Who will win? Freo
By how much? 27
Norm Smith winner? Mundy or Sandi (will destroy the Hawks ruck combo)
I want and think Freo will win, Ross the Boss has done a stellar job, deserves this one imo!
I reckon it'll be close, I'll say a 10 point margin.
As far as the Norm Smith goes, I think Super Pav will come out to play.

Freeo just for Pav and Sandi
Norm Smith roughie...D. Pearce
Currently have 58% of people thinking the Hawks will win, but a mammoth 74% are supporting the Purple Haze
Freo!! :D
My real smokey for Norm Smith is Clarke. :)
The Hawks only because i am a Hawthorn Supporter as long as the hawks can break even in the ruck they should win this but just .I think the Hawks would have leant from last years loss. Hawks by 11 points.
Heart says Freo (for Pav), but really dislike Crowley and Balla, so Hawks by a point
Freo to win by 11. Stephen Hill for Norm Smith :)
MUNDY!
I'm getting off Pav for the Norm Smith. It's going to Chris Mayne!
Hawks by 12-16 points.
Burgoyne
Some smokies for the Norm Smith
Clarke, Birchall, Lake, Gibson, Lewis

Will be a low scoring affair
Freo by 10 points, Barlow for norm smith.
P.s did I hear correctly that Freo will be wearing their white jumpers? :o what a joke if thats the case
Oh. They will get very dirty.
Go Freo!
Fyfe for Norm Smith I'd think.
Yeah, I read in the paper that they got the choice of wearing white shorts and their purple jumper or the alternate white outfit. They chose the white outfit.
Yeah completely beyond me as to why they wouldn't wear Purple on their first Grand Final
White A's
I don't understand why people think it's dumb to where the white clash jumper? It's a "clash" jumper. Its our first ever grand final and I'd be grabbing at any advantage I can. So if it means wearing our away jumper to stand our more, I'd do it. (Not sure if that is the real reason for going the white jumper but it seems reasonable)
It is because the bus crossing the desert is purple - not white.
It is the Purple Haze - not the White A's (now do you get my last post - see above)
Won't matter anywhichway!
Quote from: CrowsFan on September 23, 2013, 08:53:45 PM

Cold and rainy forecast. Hill won't win Norm Smith ;)
Agree. It will be a hard headed in and under guy.
They were given the option to wear clash shorts or jumpers wernt they?
I think revenue might be a big reason why they chose the jumpers
Yeah, that purple dye is quite expensive.

Yeah, that purple dye is quite expensive.
Not sure if your joking or don't understand my point Doc
Not many Freo supporters would own the white jumper however they will prob buy one just for this game or especially if they win a lot more people will prob buy them
Haha doc is probably one of the smartest guys on FF kb, any funniest ;)
I expect to see purple everywhere.
Would you really go and blow
$100 on a white jumper?
I see what you are saying, but sauce on the white would be tragic
Quote from: tor01doc on September 25, 2013, 11:49:28 PM

Actually during Ancient Roman times, wearing purple was seen as a sign of opulence. I think the dye was sourced from a particular type of snail.
From the St Kilda midfield snail me thinks

Not really, all supporters will be repping trade mark purple so you want to show the freo players that there is as much purple in the crowd as possible. You dont need to match what the players are wearing. Youd only buy a white guernsey if they won and you wanted to get it signed.
yeah fair point i'll shutup now :-X

Thinking about getting it tatoo'd under my eye lids
lol i'm actually going for the Hawks mainly cause i hate Lyon and Crowley and think Hawks deserve another and for some reason want Lake to win a premiership
was actually told on chat a few people find me annoying but oh well
Have you heard the apochryphal tale about Roughy and his 2008 tattoo?
Apparently went in with a few of the boys and he went first, showed them the tatt, at which point Crawf said, "That's shower" and they all walked out leaving Roughy the only one with a crappy tattoo.
If you find someone annoying it is usually because they represent something they don't like about themselves.
So, like I told my first 736 girlfriends, it's more about me than you.

Two goals in and hawks already 100% replying on the umps.
Channel 7 has 1 commentator for every 4.5 players :o
Mayne to have a ridiculously amazing 3 quarters and take home the Norm Smith. ;D
Very disappointing game so far, both teams obviously have huge nerves and that 50m penalty on Mcpharlin horrendous!
So annoying having commercials after every goal again just reminds me how good Foxtel is
#GUNston goes bang!
Freo have lost where the goals are
Who do people think has had the best 1st half? Fufe has not done much with the ball
Put some $$$$ on Freo
@ $4.00 for the win that's huge.
They haven't shown up yet, but after a Lyon chat the Dockers could bring this home easy.
Got a spare $100 laying around? Turn it into $400

Freo clearly missing their former No.1 Pick - Clive Waterhouse. Somebody get him on the plane so he can start the second half. #CliveToTheRescue.
If Pavlich, Fyfe and Waters can't figure out how to kick goals again, this game is done
Fyfe and Gunston best so far.

Yeah Lake has been doing very nicely
I have $5 on Lake @81.00 and $10 on Lewis @23.00 Lake just took another intercept mark before
Lake!! :)
Seeing as Hawthorn guaranteed to win this basically
Gunston vs Lake for the Norm Smith, Lake a decent chance
Good move for Lake going to the Hawks
Lake deserves it more IMO Gunston has kicked a goal since quater time that's about it
Yeah it's done and dusted.
Lake just over Gunston because Lake has worked harder for his ball and been just as damaging and stopped a few attacks from the Dockers.
Go Lake!
Yep, I'll admit it. Lake's taking Norm home.
Geez Hawks bring it home
Come on Pav! 8) Feel sorry for him, deserves to hold up a cup but so do the Hawks, they have been brilliant.
Well Ballantyne had 2 huge chances to completely turn the game
Basically sums up the day
Worries me they will give it to Gunston to keep the bookies happy as not many would have backed him but same can be said for Lake I guess
Will Ballantyne get more money for throwing the game than the umps will get from the hawks?
Hawks were awesome, deserved it! :)
Hayden Ballantyne cost Fremantle a Grand Final.
So many lulz.
fremantle's worst performance for the year
If Lake doesn't win he got robbed
Congrats Hawks
Feel sorry for Ross Lyon. Fremantle played like shower and he couldn't do a thing :P

Haha O'Keefe robbed DanHan of the Norm Smith last year, so they say!
Oh well I got money on Lewis also just not Gunston :-X
I think O'Keefe deserved it last year.
Be interesting this years one though!
Haha that's why I said so they say ;)

Dave Mundy was huge for Freo, wouldn't be too surprised if he won the Norm Smith but will most likely go to a Hawk.

I thought Zac Dawson was going to win the Norm Smith, he was best on for the Hawks today. Oh wait, he doesn't play for them anymore, never mind
Did anyone else think that today was a dud GF? (Hawthorn supporters aside)
To me it just never felt like the game got going. Sloppy skill errors, missed tackles, sprayed shots on goals, lack of atmosphere, even the commentators seemed a little flatter than usual. I just didnt get that GF buzz today that I do every other year. Only other time I can remember feeling like that was 2010 in the second week of the GF because it was anti climactic to such a big one the week before and 2007 because it was over at quater time. Few people ive spoke to feel the same. GF day is my favourite day of the year, I want it to be big and electric, today just wasnt.. :-\
Amazing pressure - both real and perceived. Tension that I could feel through the TV. Relentless attacks on the ball. Strong marks- Fyfe, Hale, Pav, Lake. Great kicks for goal - Mzungu, Smith. Spectacular misses. At least 3 posters. Crunching bumps - Dawson, Buddy. Don't argues. Typical umpiring. Ebb and flow with Freo nearly taking the lead. But as is often the case, pressure and tension dominating proceedings.
I think that for pure football watching, preliminary finals are the go. Less tension. Fewer corporate parasites. More authentic tribal atmosphere.
And death to the Kennett curse.
Sort of agree with you q88 but as you acknowledge, it is hard from where I sit not to love it.

Yep, we've been spoilt in recent years with 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 being fantastic grand finals. We were bound for a dud!
Yeah I think as Ossie said we've become used to fairly great Grand Finals.
I think what also was a problem was the lack of standout players and moments. Sure Lake was a deserved medal winner but because of the poor accuracy they were almost all uncontested marks/ basic spoils. Issac Smith's goal was huge, but otherwise no one really stood up
Lake, Gunstall, Mundy, Fyfe and Hodge would disagree.
And Jeff Kennett ;)
He disagrees with everyone - and everyone disagrees with him.
Hahaha that's true.
You're always bound for a good GF if the Swans are in there ;D

Whilst supporters want there to be the standout player(s) on the big stage, these two teams all year haven't had a standout player, which might explain why they were in a grand final. ;) Both styles based around team contributions, to which all players need to play correctly.
Freo had stagefright, why is everyone being so harsh on them? They are only human, and they were playing in front of 100'007 people. I don't have an exact number, but I'm pretty sure Freo haven't played in more than 70'000 before. And yes they lost, but to only lose by 15 points and play badly, gotta take some positives out of that for next year.
Ross is great, he can only do so much for the players before they need to take the responsibility themselves, I hope Freo get back there next year and take home the flag, would be happy for him. :)
Was still a good grand final, even when the Hawks were 30 points up I thought there was one last twist, everyone was calling it over with 13 minutes to go! Plenty of time! Ballantyne had a complete shocker though, wow he was one player that struggled yesterday.

Agree with some of this but disagree with some to.
I agree that these teams haven't relied on standout players but grand finals are set for standout players or moments, this really didn't have one. It was disappointing coz as a footy fan that's what you want to see.
I think people have a right to be harsh on freo though. I accepted it as stage fright in the first quater when fyfe sprayed his set shots on the full but you can't be suffering from stage fright from beginning to end. I agree that they had stage fright but that's not a good enough excuse from the opening bounce till the final siren.
The biggest crowed they played infront of before yesterday was actually only 47,000 but again, that's no excuse.
There is no garuntees they will get there again, that may be there only chance. Needed to be better than that. I thought they should have won the game. Like you said, to play that poorly and only lose by 15 points is a fair effort but really to play good football for a total of about 20 minutes of game time is very ordinary. They completely went away from how they had played all year to get themselves there. And as for hawthorn they just seemed to go about their business in 3rd gear. The game never reached any great heights
Quinny makes a lot of very good points.
Freo have a lot of very experienced players anyway, and the best young players should perform on the big stage anyway.
The stage fright excuse sounds like it can be applied to any interstate team - Sydney had a relatively different team from their 05/06 days last year...
Ross's game plan may be very affective but I don't think it's very entertaining for opposition supporters to watch just saying

Quite entertaining for opposition supporters yesterday ;) Its the neutrals that are complaining. #upthehawks
That's what I meant the neutral supporters not just the opposition teams supporters

Yes and No. I watched them against Sydney the week before and that was exciting. Crunching tackles, fast break goals. There was none of that yesterday though

the 3rd quarter was good :P
ross's gameplan doesn't allow for wasted opportunities... hence the final outcome yesterday.
Not sure if I've already said this but Ross couldn't do anymore. A coach can't do anything about poor set shock kicking on the day.
Still the No.1 coach in the league.
Watching the GF replay today and Freo did butchered their chances with 18 marks inside 50, over 30 shots for only 8 goals.
They struggled to get a 'bounce' all day and turned the ball over a number of times. I think I counted Hill 3 times in the first half. I do think they were overwhelmed by the occasion.
There were a couple of dubious umpiring decisions that resulted in goals (Franklin's 50 and Cyril Rioli's HTB) especially in the context of a GF.
Personally I dont think Hawthorn played well, I think they made less mistakes and made the most of their opportunities. Freo had their moments but when you play the best team over the last two years you need to be on your game.
Not the biggest fan of Lyon, but have the utmost respect for him (if that makes sense). I definitely don't think it was his fault. Not sure Freo choked (remember we were meant to be the biggest chockers in the early 2000's), but certainly believe they got stage fright. In saying that, not the entire team, but certain individuals seemed to let it get to them. I still say they put up a brave fight, and lost no respect in the end. I reckon we'll be seeing a fair bit of Freo come future Septembers
A few queries ...
q88 - agree Freo vs Swans was exciting but that's because Swans were undermanned and knackered. A team gagging for a beating.
MasterQ - 7 seasons and ZERO flags does not equate to the best coach in the league - no way.
Mr Mullet - plenty of bounces against the Premiers too if you look again and a few frees missed the other way too - none more 'interesting' than Fyfe's rugby throw resulting in a goal and on it goes. Pretty even umpiring and bounces really - have watched it a couple of times now - ;D
Dudge - too true

No flags does not mean the coach isn't great. A coach can only take his players so far.
The "undermanned and knackered" Swans were still in the top 4 teams when they lost to Freo.
The umpiring was dodgy against Fremantle for most of the first half, not that it really mattered as they basically dug their own hole
You claimed he was the best in the league not just great lol
Not saying Lyon is not a decent coach - just saying that he would be pretty embarrassed to be called the number one coach in the league.
Of the top 4 teams - by year's end, Sydney had more injuries and were more done in than the other 3.
Malthouse, Roos, Clarkson, Longmire - all lesser coaches than Ross Lyon - not on your nelly!
Seriously it was only 15 points. Freo just didn't put the score on the board when they should have, that's all it came down to. They probably should have won.
I never said he was the best coach, but he'd be in the top 4.
I'd say the best 4 coaches are, ironically, the best 4 teams in the comp.
Longmire, Lyon, Clarkson and Scott.
You can't really compare any of them, as their achievements are relatively unique
Oh right Q said he was the vest coach in the league
Sorry
BB - should have ? Agree could have - but with all KPI's even and Hawthorn's tackle count so dominant, one might be lead to believe the Hawks were harder at it.
Even game with Freo missing more chances - a la Geelong in '08 and this year's premiers in last year's big one.
Can't wait for next year.
They managed to get the shots on goal, just missed badly on a large number of occasions. FARK will be busy this off season!
Hawthorn won in 08 by rushing behinds to gain possession, very clever but changed the rules of the game. Probably should have been fined for bringing the game in to disrepute lol.
Now all we want to know is what compensation we get for Spuddy!
I said it grand final day and i will say it again on here.
Hawthorn did not beat Fremantle.
Fremantle beat themselves.
Then 3 cheers for Fremantle! ;D ;D ;D

Agreed
But Hawthorn took their chances so well done to them. Forever premiers 2013.
Hey BB,
Thanks. That means a lot coming from an Essendon supporter.
You'll be hoping Buddy leaves Hawthorn I guess? ;)

To be honest Doc, I think it would be ridiculous for a player to want to leave the reigning premiers (unless they aren't getting regular games). BUT strange things are happening these days.
If he does leave I think he should go to a W.A. team since he is from there and his boyfriend went back there last year. The Eagles have a stacked forward line and I think he would make a huge difference to Freo. Win another flag with them. So thats where he should go.
Despite my opinion on where he should go, I think he will be at G.W.S. next year. Don't believe Demetrio when he says they haven't discussed the ambassadorial payments with Buddy's people. Demetrio gets what he wants. G.W.S. don't even really need a forward but Buddy is a big name player to promote the new team.
Ridiculous times with a star player leaving the reigning premiers by choice!
Since he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, he should make hay while the sun shines.
Go the mega dollars while you can boy.
