2013/14 Trade Period News

TRADE #1:
OUT: Jarryd Lyons + Jake Spencer + Pick #46 (ND) + Pick #14 (RD)

IN: Thomas J. Lynch + Pick #2 (RD)

Trade info: Trade completed with the Tibetan Llamas FC, two list movements used, with two extra spaces on our team list.

Comments: While we were sad to see Jarryd and Jake leave the club, we are very excited to have young talent Tom Lynch at the club. The former #11 national draft pick (in 2011) has developed into an exciting young key forward, while we also welcome the second overall pick at the 2013 AXV rookie draft. We have researched the draft pool thoroughly and have our eyes on some gems!

Welcome Tom!

TRADE #2:
OUT: Jack Riewoldt + Jack Newnes

IN: Hamish Hartlett + Chris Knights

Trade info: Trade completed with the UAE Tigers, two list movements (first trade period) used.

Comments: While we are sad to say goodbye to one of our star forwards, we are extremely happy to welcome a young superstar midfielder in Hamish Hartlett, and a seasoned yet injury prone replacement for Jack in Chris Knights. The two Jacks are a big loss for the club, however Hamish will fill a weakness in our midfield depth, while we believe that Chris, when fit, has the potential to become one of the competition's premier forwards.

Welcome Hamish and Chris!

(http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/staticfile/AFL%20Tenant/PortAdelaide/Player%20Profiles/2013%20Profiles/HARTLETT-Hamish.png) (http://www.richmondfc.com.au/staticfile/AFL%20Tenant/Richmond/Player%20Profiles/2013%20-%20Profiles/KNIGHTS%20Chris.png)

TRADE #3:
OUT: Trent West + Pick #62 RD

IN: Pick #26 ND + Pick #38 ND

Trade info: Trade completed with the Kuala Lumpur Crocodiles and the Laos Elephants, one list movement (first trade period) used.

Comments: Not much to this trade, we only participated simply to improve our draft position. Trent West wasn't needed at the club, and we gain Pick #26 in National Draft, and #38 which was to be on-traded to the Folders in another deal.

TRADE #3:
OUT: Nick Malceski + Josh Hill + Brian Lake + Pick #38 ND

IN: Alex Rance + Hayden Ballantyne + Pick #22 ND

Trade info: Trade completed with the Manila Folders, three list movements (two first trade period, one second trade period) used.

Comments: This trade was completed as we were after some more solid forward options, having traded Riewoldt to strengthen our midfield. We felt that our back line is pretty strong so decided to trade Malceski on for another solid backman in Rance, while improving our forward line with Ballantyne, but also improving our draft position.

Welcome Alex and Hayden!

In the upcoming National Draft we have picks: #14, #22, #26, #30, #62, #78, #94

In the upcoming Rookie Draft we have picks: #2, #30, #46, #62, #78, #94

Welcome to the 2013 Mongolian Lambs Football Club Great Khan Best & Fairest Award night!

The medal will be awarded on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis for each round, where the best performer of each round is awarded the maximum 5 votes. Where possible, differences in scoring potential between positions has been taken into account.

Let the count begin!

In 1st place, finishing on 33 votes, the winner of the 2013 Great Khan MLFC Best & Fairest Award is: Steve Johnson!

Despite missing the opening rounds of the season after knee surgery, and a few games here and there throughout the season as a result of suspension, Steve is the clear winner of the clubs inaugural best & fairest award. Recognised for his fantastic season as the captain of the 2013 All-Asian team (the AXVs highest-averaging player across the season), with a phenomenal average of 157 points per game, Steve did not dip below 100 points in any game this season, his lowest score being a handy 107. Steve will resume his role as the captain of the team in 2014 - congratulations on a fantastic year, Steve!

Congratulations to the evergreen Ryan O'Keefe on his second placing in the 2013 Best & Fairest, and to Kurt Tippett on being named as our Finals MVP.

For the moment, yes!

In my mids I've got Johnson (157), O'Keefe (131), Thompson (123), Priddis (123), Cooney (122), Murphy (113), Hartlett (111) and van Berlo (92).

So yeah, as you can see he doesn't quite make the cut, and I'm expecting Murphy to be far better next year, probably my #2 or #3 mid. With O'Keefe being 32yo and Thompson being 30yo they are reaching the end of their careers (as we saw with Thompson being vested a fair bit last season), so I needed to add some better depth as NVB does not cut it that will be able to take over from ROK & Thommo in the next couple of years.

I expect Hartlett to become a super premium in this comp once he starts handling tags a bit better, as he's a damaging midfielder that on his day can rack up disposals and hit the scoreboard.

He's not in the team... For now! ;)

Thanks mate. I feel like we've been able to improve our list a bit, particularly in the depth department, without losing too much out of our Best XV. I think Knights could well out-average Jack Roo if he stays fit, and having Rance down back, while it might not get me as many points each week, I feel more confident I can rely on him week in-week out, as Malceski's past injuries are definitely a concern.

I'm also pretty happy with how the squad looks age-wise! Some old heads tied in amongst the fresher faces!

Oh, and we'll get you where it hurts this year! ;)

2013 Drafting News

2013 AXV National Draft:

Pick 1 (#14 Overall): Luke Dunstan

Position: Inside midfielder (185cm/83kg)

Toga says: "A physically imposing figure for his age, Luke Dunstan is ready made for AFL footy and should see games at the Saints this year. While he will be down the pecking order for a run in the Mongolian midfield in 2014, we have some older heads that will be moving on in the next few years by which time Lukey should be ready to step up for a regular senior role. Touted as having exceptional leadership capabilities, we expect Luke to develop into a fine young player for our footy club."

Pick 2 (#22 Overall): Rory Lobb

Position: Ruck (205cm/98kg)

Toga says: "Very much a project player, Lobb is quite new to the game being from a basketball background. Playing WAFL seniors in 2013, he averaged 12 disposals, 3 marks and 24 hit outs per game, which is pretty impressive for a guy relatively new to the game. While he won't be ready to play senior footy in 2014 for Mongolia, we hope he can emulate the careers of some other ex-basketballers in Scott Pendlebury & Brodie Grundy."

Pick 3 (#26 Overall): Toby Nankervis

Position: Ruck/Forward (199cm/100kg)

Toga says: "Toby Nankervis completes our ruck line, giving us great depth as we now possess five players in this position. Add to that the fact that he is a likely fill in for Swans and Lambs teammates Mike Pyke/Kurt Tippett if they get struck down by injury, we expect Nankervis to be the man that replaces them in the AFL, giving us another option in our AXV team. Nankervis was undoubtedly the premier junior ruck man this year, averaging 92.2 ppg across the national championships, being awarded the Div 2 Best Player.

Pick 4 (#30 Overall): Nathan Gordon

Position: Midfielder/Forward (186cm/86kg)

Toga says: "Nathan "Nippa" Gordon was recruited by us with our fourth selection overall as we were in need of immediate forward depth, which is something we feel Nippa will be able to provide for us. A mature-age recruit, now 23 years of age, Gordon is able to play both in the midfield and up forwards as either a dangerous small forward or a marking target. We feel as though at least one of Nippa and Chris Knights will play for the Tigers each week, if not both, improving our forward depth which is what we were hoping to improve with this selection, and we feel as though we got the best option available with this pick.

Pick 5 (#62 Overall): James Sicily

Position: Forward/Midfielder

Toga says: "James is a very versatile player in the mould of Bangladesh young gun Nat Fyfe, and displays many similar traits to Fyfe. Being quite slight of frame, it's unlikely we'll see James get senior action in 2014 until he puts on some weight in the gym, and when he does eventually break into the side it's possible he will start his career in the forward line, however we see him as moving into the midfield as he gains experience. Best used as a goal kicking midfielder, kicking 26 goals in his TAC cup season. We are stoked to have been able to pick up James this late in the draft."

2013 AXV Rookie/Preseason Draft:

Pick 1 (#2 Overall): Cameron O'Shea

Position: Defender

Toga says: "A skilful rebounding defender that we had our eye on from day dot when we realised he wasn't on an AXV list last season. Averaging a solid 92 points per game in 2013, ranking him inside the top 50 defenders in the competition, O'Shea was targeted to cover the loss of veteran defender Nick Malceski who was traded to Manila. Unfortunately we have no room on our senior list right now so Cameron will spend 2014 as a rookie-listed player, however we aim to upgrade him in the 2014 National Draft."

Pick 2 (#30 Overall): Charlie Cameron

Position: Forward

Toga says: "An exciting prospect with pace to burn, Cameron is a small forward from Swan Districts in WA. Having played plenty of senior footy in WA we expect Charlie to be able to have an impact in his first season at the club, however he will have to spend this season on the rookie list, and depending on how he goes in 2014 we may look to grant him a senior position next year. A tackling machine with silky skills and a strong mark for his size, we are rapt to have recruited Charlie in the rookie draft this week.

Thanks Coll, very happy with our drafting. People might not agree with having 5 rucks on our list, but Pyke probably only has a year or two left in the system and now my rucks are set for the future. Lobb is going to be a gun, mark my words!

I'll update the team list/player photos once all drafting is finished & positions are announced :)

Now that we've finished our part in the drafts, with our 2013draftees (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/topic,86815.msg1236270.html#msg1236270) filling up both our lists, I'll try to start updating our team lists in the OP!

Pretty happy with Dunstan, Lobb, Nankervis, Gordon, Sicily, O'Shea and Cameron I must say 8)

ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with a heavy heart, tinged with joy that I need to announce my resignation as an Assistant Coach for the Mighty Mongolians Lambs to take on the head coaching role for the Vietnam Vipers.

Thanks to Toga for all the help and support along the way, and I hope we can develop a good rivalry between the teams

New Assistant Coach Unveiled

The Lambs are very excited to today announce that we have recruited a new assistant coach to cover the loss of new Vipers Head Coach SydneyRox. After much speculation over the last few days, we can confirm that former Manila and Tibet assistant NigeyS will be taking on an assistant role at our club after turning down offers from rival clubs. This will take some pressure off of the club's current coach, also presenting another avenue for trading and drafting advice.

We're looking forwards to the coming season as we feel we can again be a serious premiership contender as we were last year, after finishing as the minor premiers after the home and away season. Bring on 2014!

Late inclusion PEARCE HANLEY receives best-on-ground honours for his 196-point midfield demolition on the day, closely followed by BRENT STANTON who was also prominent in the middle with 191 points as skipper.

Mongolian Lambs 2016 B&F Winner

1st: Tom Lynch (42.5 votes)
2nd: Matt Priddis (33 votes)
3rd: Leigh Montagna (25.5 votes)
4th: Scott Thompson (24.5 votes)
=4th: Shaun Grigg (24.5 votes)

7th: Pearce Hanley (20.5 votes)
8th: Adam Cooney (18.5 votes)
9th: Jimmy Bartel (17 votes)
10th: Jarrad McVeigh (16 votes)

Also polled: Marc Murphy, Hamish Hartlett, Bob Murphy, Kurt Tippett, Bachar Houli, Alex Rance, Matthew Stokes, Tomas Bugg, Lin Jong, James Sicily, Charlie Cameron, Jordan Roughead, Taylor Hunt

Lambs co-coaches Toga and fanTCfool had nothing but praise for 2016 Club Champion Tom Lynch, who had yet another breakout season. All involved with the Lambs are very excited for Tom, who has cited his intent to stay with the Lambs for his entire career. Tommy averaged 124.5 points per game in 2016, 9 ppg less than runner up Matt Priddis, but it was his many big 4 or 5 vote matches that got him over Priddis' consistency.
"Tommy boy can only get better from here, it's going to be a great 10 years to come"

Stay Cool Mr. Lynch!

Marc didn't miss a game for the Lambs this season, able to get his body right for a full season. Murph exploded with 180 against the Tigers to start the season and didn't look back, highlighted by a whopping 202 against the Bombers in Round 3. Marc didn't drop below the 100 at all for the entire season, making him a reliable captaincy choice for the Lambs week in, week out. His 144 average was a career best, and was a shining light for the Lambs in an otherwise disappointing season.

Winning on and off the field! Onya Murph.
