Title: WXV Continental Cup
Post by: ossie85 on September 02, 2013, 01:39:25 PM
Round 5 Fixture

Asia v Americas
Europe v Africa/Oceania

(Choose your XV from 18 WXV teams, 8 AFL teams playing finals)

Ladder after Round 4

Team   W   L   For   Against   %
Europe   3   1   670   599   111.85
Americas   3   1   636   615   103.41
Asia   2   2   585   596   98.15
Africonia   0   4   567   648   87.50

Tough for Africonia to make the finals now! They need to win both remaining games, gain percentage, and hope Asia don't win another.

Europe and Americas are neck-and-neck for top spot, with top spot going straight through to the finals.

All your players play for crappy teams lol

Ok here is a provisional team for the Americas, just in case I don't name one later in the week since I'll be busy...

Def - Enright, Birchall, Houli, Hartlett
Mid - Pendlebury (C), Swan, Barlow, Cornes
Ruck - Roughead
Fwd - Johnson (VC), Walker, Bartel, Chapman
Int - Sidebottom, Ebert

Emg - Hodge, Christensen, Burgoyne

So there are 5 Armadillos, 4 Suns, 4 Pumas, 1 Revolution, and 1 Wolf in the starting XV. Everyone gets at least one player :)

Yep! This comp died, but because I don't like leaving something unfinished, I'll finish it! I think the mistake was rotating coaches, reckon would've been better to just have the one....

Anyways..... teams were selected purely on average (except Americas, cheers CF)! Scores for the finals were not included in decision making of XV

Asia (24.14.158) defeated Americas (23.14.152)

Best
Asia: K Jack, B Gibbs, B Deledio, C Judd
Americas: J Bartel, M Barlow, S Sidebottom, Brad Ebert, K Cornes, D Swan, S Pendlebury

Kieran Jack wins a Representative Medal

A massive win for Asia, as they keep hope of either hosting a prelim or going straight to a Grand Final alive! Body blow for Africonia, as this means they are out of the race. A lot of contributors for the Americas, but it was Asia captain Kieran Jack that was the match winner.

Europe (20.17.137) lost to Africonia (23.13.151)

Best
Europe: N Fyfe, C Wingard
Africonia: D Beams, JP Kennedy, M Murphy, T Cotchin, J Gibson, D Hale

Dayne Beams wins a Representative Medal

Africonia get their first victory after an impressive display! The stars of Europe had bad games, including star midfielders Travis Boak and captain Joel Selwood. Meanwhile Dayne Beams was superb and captain Trent Cotchin solid.

Which means with one Round to go, the ladder is:

Team   W   L   For   Against   %
Europe   3   2   807   750   107.60
Americas   3   2   788   773   101.94
Asia   3   2   743   748   99.33
Africonia   1   4   718   785   91.46

1st goes straight to the Grand Final
2nd hosts a preliminary final against 3rd

So big epic last round!

Round 6 (AFL Finals Week 2)

Africa/Oceania v Americas
Europe v Asia

(Choose your XII from 18 WXV teams, 4 AFL teams playing finals) <-- note 12 players not 15. 3D, 3M, 1R, 3F, 2I

If anyone wants to coach one of the teams, let me know, and I'll send you the list! First in, first serve.

I'll coach the team again this week if I have no complaints from the other Americas coaches :)

#Redemption.

Assuming it's one less for all positions outside Ruck and Utilities. Going to be able to finally name a team :o.

Europe
Def: A. Mackie, L. Henderson, Z. Tuohy.
Mid: J. Selwood (C), T. Boak, K. Simpson.
Ruc: M. Lobbe.
Fwd: M. Stokes (VC), R. Gray, A. Monfries.
Util: C. Wingard, J. McVeigh.

Emg: J. Westhoff, D. Hannebery, A. Carlile.

Lobbe only ruck available for Europe ;D. That last Defender spot was between Tuohy, Trengove, Carlile and Grundy...

Moscow - 1.
Dublin - 3.
London - 3.
Berlin - 2.
PNL - 3.

Tried to get an even spread among the teams :). If Hombsch was playing would have had at least 2 players from all teams!

Africonia (14.11.95) lost to Americas (19.10.124)

Early injury to Tom Mitchell blew any chance for Africonia, while the Americas were steady across the board.

Best

Americas: P Chapman, A Walker, J Bartel, S Johnson

PAUL CHAPMAN wins a REPRESENTATIVE MEDAL

Europe (20.21.141) defeated Asia (15.8.98)

Very impressive display by Europe! Well done HP, as McVeigh was the star.

Best
Europe: J McVeigh, J Selwood, L Henderson, M Stokes, M Lobbe, T Boak, K Simpson
Asia: S Motlop, J Kelly, K Jack, L Parker

Late Changes
Asia: O Wines replaced T West

JARRAD McVEIGH wins a REPRESENTATIVE MEDAL

Team Asia would be an unlikely finalist! With only 4 sides to choose from, with no top 8 sides, and two of the bottom 4...

I'm backing them in with my rag-tag bunch:

D: H Taylor, B Guerra, P Duffield
M: K Jack (c), S Mitchell (vc), J Kelly
R: M Bailey
F: S Motlop, J Podsiadly, H Ballantyne
I: L Parker, J Corey
E: L Neale, N Suban, B McGlynn

But an Asian coach can change it if they like!

Americas (19.11.125) defeated Asia (16.14.110)

Best
Americas: S Johnson, S Burgoyne, G Birchall
Asia: S Mitchell, B Guerra, P Duffield

STEVE JOHNSON wins a Representative Medal!

EUROPE v AMERICAS, Patersons Stadium

just a rough team here, happy to see what you guys think.

D.Pearce, L.MPharlin
N.Fyfe (C), D.Mundy (VC)
Z.Clarke
M.Pavlich, M.Walters
C.Mayne, C.Rioli

Emg: L.Franklin, B.Hill, J.Anderson.

not much choice really, the only moves to make are Rioil v Buddy and who to Captain. Pity we cant poach current dublin player birchall, that would really help.

I would be more worried about getting the ball and getting it inside 50, let alone thinking of winning the game if i were you ;)

Pretty much the same team I would have put out Holz from players available - Would be tempted to Go Munbdy over Fyfe as Captain but not a lot of difference between the 2.

hard to select Franklin over Pav, Mayne or Walters or Hill Anderson over Fyfe or Mundy on form.

No hawk otions available in Ruck or defence so they pick themselves.

With this team and freo winning should easily account for Americas,

PNL representing in the Grand Final 8).

Agree Walters + Mayne a certainty, expect a great game from Pav on the big stage! Franklin not to shabby to have on the emergency list.

Well since nails isn't posting a team I will post one. Obviously though if nails posts one later that's the one that counts.

Ok here we go :)

Def - Birchall, Johnson
Mid - Barlow (C), Hodge
Ruck - Roughead (VC)
Fwd - Lewis, Gunston
Int - Hill, Burgoyne

Emg - Sandilands, Lake, Silvagni

We are only 3 players short of a Freo v Hawks grand final!

Huge calls to have Sandi and Buddy as emergencies in both teams, mammoth chances of norm smith medals the both!
