Title: North Melbourne v Carlton, Round 17, 2013
Post by: ossie85 on July 18, 2013, 08:45:22 AM

Do or die! The 3 quarter Roos v the pretender Blues? Who will come out on top?

(Sorry North and Carlton fans!)

Love the tagline, Os! ;D

I reckon the Blue Boys will get up in this, they're closer to the 8 and probably haven't lost hope of sneaking in.

Carlton havent got a hope in hell. North Melbournes defence and attack is too good to swing Hendersen up forward. I personally think they cant kick enough goals.

I think North will win by 40+ and I don't think I'm even being bias. North are a different team at Etihad, and Carlton are an overrated underachieving bunch anyway.

yep thats it, was confident against richmond and im the same this week.

To be fair on last week , hansen went down almost instantly he has been very important in the last few weeks and it means we had to activate the sub early. Green was the lions sub and he came on late and killed it with fresh legs.

JZ was battling with his knee and Swallow was getting fixed up late in the game. Sure they should have held on but there were reasons this time.

the real reason they lost was Voss played rocky in the mids, they are almost a top 8 when they do that. It was at the gabba too.

Because they have good form against Carlton and the Blues still suck at Etihad. Also I expect Murphy to miss tonight and Robbo to come in. Murph, Judd and Gibbs have been Carlton's best performers against North in recent years. From memory, Murphy had 1 game where he had 25 odd touches and 4 goals, Gibbs did the same thing another time.

Surely North's more recent past history of fade outs is more relevant than the past history of Carlton clashes?

That's what I'm hoping for and believing.  :-X

As a Richmond supporter, I pretty much dislike both these sides equally, but I figure like most here people will tip Norf and so I'll tip Carlton and hope they can get over the line. :P

Don't ask me why I'm still trying to redeem myself in footy tipping at this stage of the season when I'm clearly too far behind to be in with any genuine chance of winning. ::)

Yeah just watched that game on Foxfooty, it was from 2008. North kicked 9 points and no goals in the last quarter and lost by 10 points, what a fail.

According to supertipping, 55% of people have picked Blues, so you might pick up a tip if North win.

Back to 51% North vs 49% Carlton, not sure what made people more sure of North, maybe Thomas coming in and Firrito being dropped finally.

Haha, Lindsay's one of my favourite players.  I'm assuming North fans love him too (apart from when he decides to headbutt people after the siren :P ::)). I went ahead and tipped Carlton... Fingers crossed.  :-X

Really not a fan of some of Thomas' actions and he certainly is a diver which I really don't like, but as long as he's kicking goals and laying tackles to go with his diving smothers, I'm more than happy to have him in the team!

Thank flower Firrito got dropped...Greenwood very hard done by though.

No, I don't love him at all. He's a good player, but I can never respect a player who sells contact as much as he does.

I was surprised and a little bewildered about it, Gibson's number 1 strength by a country mile is his gut running...has been the sub once earlier last year from memory and did sweet flower all after coming on as he isn't an impact player, he's a grinder.

North's kicking on goal has been woeful, I think possibly more out on the full than goals? Killing the Blues around the ground just can't translate it onto the scoreboard.

Should we expect Gibbs to tag? That will ruin his scoring  :'(

Oh, and people were saying Norf would win... It's not looking likely now, especially if they keep this up.

Come on North!

Gibbs  :(
Swallow really gives me the absolute fkn showers. Can go big in quarters but can be shocking - see quarter 3. Could end up on 100 but could end up on 60.

We got veryyyyy lucky. My heart almost stopped when Boomer was running onto the ball late in the game and it bounced the wrong way.

I tipped Carlton by 7, bugger lol.
I can't believe I traded in Scotland halfway through the season and have been stuck with him ever since.

Very Stevie Milne-esque.

Well played Blues but really North's kicking especially early cost the game. Was more an issue of North losing the game than the Blues winning it, at least I felt.

Different feeling being the come-from-behind-ers, not the ones that feel absolutely pissed off after a come from behind loss...I'm obviously disappointed but proud that North could come back and mount such a good challenge. Goldy was absolutely flowered late in the game hence Kruezers big, match defining marks.

I can breathe for now..well until next weeks game.

Very good contest RB ! Kreuzer did do very well but Goldy isn't getting enough resting time causing him to tire out. You could just see it. But you had no other option. Petrie is your tall forward so he has to stay. Unlucky game for North. Well done Blues :)

Yeah that's what I mean, he was flowered could hardly run but playing a second ruck in Currie isn't the solution. Petrie actually plays a fair bit of time in the ruck but you're right it's always good to have him up forward. Black and Tarrant struggle in the ruck, perhaps Majak coming back in the solution for his ruck work but would much rather both Black and Tarrant as forward options.

maybe give goldy the week off next week against melbourne and play someone like daw/ currie in the ruck for the game?

I think it's more an issue of every week struggling to play 120 minutes, a week off could help get the body in a bit better shape but he doesn't look too sore or anything, will probably still struggle to play the whole game in the ruck in 2 weeks time even with a rest.

Don't think it can be a blow to his fitness or anything, he is remarkably fit from what I've seen, no-one can play a dominant 4 quarters in the ruck week in week out.
