Title: Copy and Pasting issues
Post by: Toga on June 03, 2013, 12:33:51 PM
So I've found lately that I (and others) are having trouble copy and pasting things into comments...

Whether it be articles from AFL.com or write-ups for XVs competitions etc. it seems like the item that has been copy and pasted will cut out after a symbol (so writing will be copy and pasted until a symbol, like an apsotrophe, occurs). It can be a bit frustrating because it might mean that we lose what we're trying to put into a comment. :(

I've only really noticed this problem since the new servers were used, not sure what can be done (if anything) to fix this?

Thanks. :)

I'm using Chrome but it's still an issue.

It's strange because if you preview the text it all comes up but then you go to post and most of it vanishes. :(

Have noticed this issue. Another issue is some special symbol letters don't work. For example in the WXV my team is the Sao Paulo Pumas. Sao is meant to have a special a, but when I type it in it doesn't post correctly, as I will demonstrate here...

Yeah when I copy my X team from a word doc... It never copys and pastes. There is a trick to it.

Preview then copy and paste from the preview which will for some reason work...

Yeah I think this is a problem for some reason... A 'special' letter or symbol, sometimes even a dash, causes the writing to cut out completely ???

But yeah, just a bit annoying :( Hopefully we can fix it..

I did notice that when the server change occurred it mucked around with quoted text in my rookie thread. The quotation marks were in some cases replaced with a different symbol. Example...

Quote from: Mr.Craig on September 16, 2012, 07:56:05 PM

Kevin Sheehan says: “Medium midfielder/defender who attacks the ball aggressively and rarely fumbles. Strong and courageous in the air, he also excels at the stoppages. Loves the physical pressure of the game, winning contested ball and tackles strongly. Captained Vic Metro in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and won All-Australian honours for his work as a medium defender averaging 16.6 disposals and 4.6 marks. AIS-AFL Academy member.”

Possibly related to this issue?

Would really appreciate some attention being put towards this.

It may seem like a small issue for some but I've got the 2014 rookie thread starting in September where I'll be quoting heaps and I sure as hell don't want to type out every quote I want to use.

I believe this started happening (for me at least) when the forum started being hosted on a separate server.

Around the same time people had issues with quick reply (which has since been resolved).

Still happening for me m0nty and really annoying.  have tried a number of cut and posts regarding the Voss sacking yesterday and today and if there is a - or an ' cut and post stops there so to get one post up required 2 edits to complete.

Probably a coding issue but needs to be addressed

A LATE trade that saw Bernie Vince join Melbourne in exchange for the Demons' free agency compensation pick capped off a busy day of trades to end the free agency period.

On a Friday that brought back memories of the old-fashioned trade week, four players changed clubs:

- Vince moved to the Demons for pick No.23 (compensation for losing free agent Colin Sylvia to Fremantle)
- St Kilda's Nick Dal Santo joined North Melbourne under free agency
- The Sydney Swans' Shane Mumford joined Greater Western Sydney in exchange for pick No.35
- Melbourne landed exciting Giants youngster Dom Tyson and picks No.9 and No.53 in exchange for pick No.2 and No.20.

The tortuous negotiations between St Kilda, North Melbourne and Dal Santo's manager Tom Petroro went close to the deadline with the deal only guaranteed last night when Saints list manager Ameet Bains rang his North Melbourne counterpart Cameron Joyce.

Finally, and just before the 2pm deadline to end the free agency period, Dal Santo became a Kangaroo, bringing an end to his 12-year, 260-game career with the Saints.

Latest indicative draft order: what picks does your club have?

St Kilda is expected to take a breath before beginning negotiations to secure Luke Delaney from North Melbourne

EDIT: IT WORKS I THINK MATE :)

Looks like the problem persists. The above is meant to read....

"I think he's a better user of the footy, he appears to have more time and space and he makes better decisions than Bryce did at the same age." - Mark Ross, former Adelaide recruiting manager.

Obviously the quote marks are still an issue.

That's what I think. When copying bodies of text from other websites, articles, etc myself, I have noticed that usually the ones that don't work are due to the font being one that has the apostrophes on an angle.

I have looked into this, and it appears to be fixable by changing the language in the database from ISO to UTF. However, I will have to wait a few days for when I regain cable internet to back up the database and perform the risky manoeuvre of switching over.

Hey m0nty, have you had any luck in fixing this?
I just posted my ridiculously long captains article only for it to cut off in the first sentence. Of course, I then had to go through and manually change every piece of punctuation...
In total, I had to change 88 punctuation marks manually so that it would post. I'm sure you can imagine how awful a task that was!

If it's not fixable, I'll keep working my way around it, but it'd be great if it could be fixed so that I don't have this issue every week.

Yeah I am having problems with this two

Last night I started a thread, didn't copy and paste anything, just typed it all myself, and when I posted it half of the text disappeared, and then I tried all sorts of stuff, eventually I copied my text into notepad, then copied it from there back into here and it worked.

Every time I post the word nyeev it never works, it shows na and then everything else is cut off and not posted

Only happens for "nyeev" which is incredibly bizarre!

(Had to spell it wrong here because it was happening again!)

Try it yourself. Type nyeev but spell it the right way, and then type text after it and when you post everything after na will disappear!
