Title: WXV Vacant Coaching Position - Beijing Bears (again)
Post by: ossie85 on May 14, 2013, 07:55:14 AM

After a winless start to the season, the coach of Beijing Bears has resigned, stating that he does not have the time to commit.

We would like to thank JROO8 for his efforts this year!

But, we have Round 8 just around the corner, so need a new coach quickly!

If you are interested, please apply with your best XV, your strengths, the team's strengths and weaknesses and anything else!

You'll have to be quick though, applications close Wednesday (tomorrow) night so we can have a result by Round 8 kick off!

I'd love to join, but I'm already at the mighty Armidilloes, who have the best team in all WXV. So I think I won't apply.

Strong application, will take a good one to beat it imo.

Good luck to Toga and all other (if any) applicants.  :)

We can't have Togsey having the team I rebuilt :o  That would make them our rivals! ;)

Fixed  ;)
Haha just kidding. Whoever gets the team should be able to transform it into a good team, there is a lot of good young players. I just didn't have the time to run 2 XV teams. As shown by this week forgetting to name my 2nd best midfielder in Griffen in AXVs and putting Kerr captain even though he wasn't playing. (Luckily I changed it). So good luck to the coach to takes over and thanks to ossie for running such a great competition  :)

Only have good things to say about Toga; great bloke, for the 7 rounds he was my assistant he was very good, especially with graphic design.

100% support him in his decision to leave Moscow and get a head job, totally deserving of it.

Hope a good applicant comes up for the job, sorry for any inconvenience.

Hey, I'd love to join the WX community but am definitely not ready to head coach a team. But I'd love to help out somehow. I will say one thing though, I have a lot of time so I'd definitely give a position my full dedication

Ossie has said before you can still apply despite being a coach, just means you are willing to leave that team to take control of this one. So to apply for the Bears, you'll have to leave Tokyo and Boomz!

Think whoever lands the Beijing job will need some help Specky, so certainly can hope for an assistant job there :). Otherwise can search around and see if anybody wants an assistant as I know some have a few, others have just 1.

Even though the list is not strong can I encourage you to apply if interested.

It is a long term approach needed.  I will use myself as an example I took over the London Royals mid way through the season last year and that team was near the bottom of the ladder. Due to trading and Drafting team has been strengthened and is one of the surprise packets in this years competition.

So what I am saying look long term not short term.

As I said I'm very inexperienced and I don't think I could handle a team, id like to join a team in the future though to find out what's required and how everything runs, but if no minor positions open up I might just follow the season to enhance my understanding of this brilliant competition.  :)

Just apply you don't need to make any tough decisions until the off season and by then you should have a good understanding ;)

I'm interested in the job. Team will come shortly, going out soon.

My clear strengths is my tactical, strategy and trading side of the game. In other words I am a Fantasy Mastermind. The team has a great mix of age and ability although I think it's lacking some firepower. This list looks like it'll have a lot of soon-to-be premiums and if a few more older guys are added at EOS, I think at the end of the 2014/15 season it has a chance to be above the 33,000 point cap.

Pretty much all that will be required is naming a team each week. Pretty sure the rest of stuff is optional like posting team reviews and whatnot.  :)

Haha not true. I don't mind the list, lots of young talent as I said in my application. Just not sure I need the extra commitment but at the same time wouldn't mind it... #InTwoMinds

Waiting for a reply to my PM from Q so don't go making decisions yet ladz :P
Title: Re: WXV Vacant Coaching Position - Beijing Bears (again)
Post by: BB67th on May 15, 2013, 05:40:45 PM
Well I have always felt that the WXV is one of the best competitions using my favourite scoring system in SC, and this is a nice young team which I feel I could develop nicely, so I would like to put my name forward to coach it.

First, here would be my best XV for the side:

DEF: Harry Taylor (C) / Rhyce Shaw / Brent Guerra / Luke Tapscott
MID: Matt Rosa / Daniel Kerr / Liam Shiels / Oliver Wines
RUC: Matthew Kreuzer (VC)
FWD: Travis Varcoe / Eddie Betts / Scott Gumbleton / Sam Mayes
UTI: Josh Caddy / Josh Hunt

Definitely it is a young team and needs a few changes made. Over the off season I would definitely look at getting a captain in, someone who can score me 110+ every single week. There is some good youth in there with the likes of Tapscott, Mayes and Caddy, and with a few high draft picks at the end of the season, should be in good stead for a build up over the next 4-5 years. I went with Harry Taylor as the captain for now, but that could change with Kreuzer, Rosa and Kerr if he can get back to his best also being strong choices.

Now a bit about me:

I've been of FF for a couple of years now, and it really is the best Fantasy Footy site out there. I have been assistant to Ringo in the WXV at the London Royals since late last season and it has been a good experience to be a part of this comp, even though I'm not really active on the WXV board.
I am currently coach of the Leeds Leaches in the BXV and the Manila Folders in the AXV. If I got the position here it is possible I would look at giving away one of the other roles if there was someone else who wanted to take over. I would be happy to work as a senior assistant in that case and ease the transition through to another head coach.
I'm also a big SuperCoach player, preferring it over Dream Team. I've finished around the 10,000 mark the last few years, but this year I am going strong and am currently ranked around 900 after being as low as 90 a few rounds ago!
I really feel I am an active forum member that can contribute well to the WXV community and can do something good with this club.

So thanks for taking the time to read my application, and good luck to all the other applicants! :)

Our official application!

Hi all, Master Q and I would like to apply for the position at the Beijing Bears as Co-Coaches.

Toga:
I've been around FanFooty for almost a year now, and think I have proven my worth to the forums, being very dedicated in giving advice around the P&T boards, while also taking on a position as coach at the Mongolian Lambs (http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,70127.0.html) in the AXV competition. I've loved my time in that competition, as it has a great community, and I'd love to become a part of the WXV community as well. I've been an assistant coach with Jukes (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php?action=profile;u=3826) since he was appointed Head Coach at Moscow, and have enjoyed being a part of the competition as an assistant, but would love to take the next step and get a Head Coach role.

As for my strengths, I'd say my friendly attitude towards being involved in these fantasy competitions would be my main characteristic, along with my dedication to not only the team but the rest of the competition in making the community as friendly as possible. Another main strength of mine would be my design skills - thanks to Sid (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php?action=profile;u=5563) I've become pretty handy with PhotoShop in designing guernseys etc. I actually designed the guernseys for the previous coach of the Bears, this was my work:

(http://imageshack.us/a/img5/1083/beijingbearshome.png) (http://imageshack.us/a/img855/9611/beijingbearsaway.png)

I've also helped out a number of other coaches with their guernseys, membership campaigns, team graphics and score cards recently.

Master Q:
My clear strengths is my tactical, strategy and trading side of the game. In other words I am a Fantasy Mastermind. The team has a great mix of age and ability although I think it's lacking some firepower. This list looks like it'll have a lot of soon-to-be premiums and if a few more older guys are added at EOS, I think at the end of the 2014/15 season it has a chance to be above the 33,000 point cap.

Our thoughts on the team:

BEST XV
D: Harry Taylor (VC), Brent Guerra, Rhyce Shaw, Josh Hunt
M: Matt Rosa, Josh Caddy, Liam Shiels, Oliver Wines,
R: Matthew Kreuzer (C)
F: Scott Gumbleton, Travis Varcoe, Eddie Betts, Sam Mayes
U: Daniel Kerr, Sam Kerridge

While we don't see this lineup being particularly strong at the moment, there is some great youth in this side. Brodie Grundy, Ben Kennedy and Jackson Thurlow are some names that didn't quite make the cut for the current Best XV, but I'm sure will be pushing for senior selection as soon as next year. Oliver Wines and Sam Mayes are already establishing themselves at a senior level, and we expect them to be leadership material for the team in the future.

Matthew Kreuzer and Harry Taylor are probably the only captain material at the moment that really stand out compared to the rest of the team, so that would be a focus of ours coming into the EOS trading period: finding a solid captain for the side. ANother focus would be recruiting some more players in their early twenties in exchange for some of our older heads that don't quite fit the team structure... With all the youth named above coming through, we think it would be best to try and build the team around its already existing youth base. I'd say we'll also be getting an early draft pick the way the season has started as well, which could either be used to lure an already established player to the Bears, or if that fails, could be used to pick up some of the country's best young talent.

Hopefully you guys see us as a good candidate for this position, but good luck to all other applicants!

Thanks,

Master Q and Toga

Thanks Oz - I was a bit uncertain whether I would be able to handle the team on my own, given the obvious work that will need to be done at EOS, but I think as Co-Coaches, Q and I would be able to pull this team out of the ashes and transform it into a competitive outfit next year. :)
