Title: WXV Round 7 - Wolves to test top 4 claims against Revolution
Post by: ossie85 on April 13, 2013, 02:58:08 PM
Making some threads for the future :)  By the time they come round, you may have to go looking for them!

To avoid controversy, teams can be accepted for the round for membership points purposes ON the hour after the last game of the round finishes (i.e. if the last game finishes at 5:45pm, teams can be accepted from 6:00pm --> Will use fanfooty clock).

Round 7
(AFL Round 7)

Sao Paulo Pumas       v       Cape Town Cobras       Estádio do Pumas
Buenos Aires Armadillos       v       Pacific Islanders       Estadio de River
Wellington Warriors       v       Mexico City Suns       The Basin Reserve
Toronto Wolves       v       New York Revolution       Rogers Centre, Toronto
Moscow Spetsnaz       v       Paris Nice Lyon Reindeers       Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow
Berlin Brewers       v       Dublin Destroyers       Olympic Stadium, Berlin
London Royals       v       Tokyo Samurai       Lords
Seoul Magpies       v       Beijing Bears       Seoul World Cup Stadium
New Delhi Tigers       v       Cairo Sands       Wipro Stadium, Nagpur

Highlights:
The Minor Premiers (Sao Paulo) and the Runners-Up (Cape Town) are looking for better titles, and somehow managed to miss each other in finals. There only meeting a 1 point thriller to the Pumas as the best midfields in the comp go head-to-head. 1st v 4th. Kennedy, Watson and Cotchin v Ablett, Sloane and Zaha but Sao Paulo has outscored them every week this year, so I'll back the Pumas.

I'm sensing an absolute smashing here, as the Buenos Aires Armadillos take on the fledgling Islanders. 60 point margin on the cards here, as the Armadillos look to get into the 4 after 2 early season losses.

The Warriors have shown some spirit, but Mexico City will be looking to boost percentage and take top spot even if the Pumas defeat the Cobras.

New York were looking unstroppable after round 4, undefeated and sitting 2nd on the table! But a poor effort against Moscow and a heart breaking loss to Cape Town has left them out of the 4, and back in the pack. Speaking of Packs, the Wolves are hungry to climb up the ladder and build a strong base for the season. This is one of the matches of the round, and I'll back the Wolves (as New York don't like it when I pick them).

Moscow has managed to win 3 games with scores in the 130s against quality opposition! Can they turn this great start into a 2nd consecutive finals appearance? The return of Nic Nat certainly helps. Despite a depleted forward line, PNL will give themselves a strong chance after a spirited effort against Mexico City. But I'll back the Russians.

Berlin let a massive chance slip last week to consolidate against a disappointing London. They will be shattered. A loss to Dublin will bring there finals hopes into question. Dublin are still a sneaky chance, but have only defeated the cellar dwellers this year, they need a victory against a middle-tier team to start gaining some respect.

London sit 3rd on the ladder, but know they were lucky last week to come away with a win. Tokyo will provide a great challenge for the Royals, as the Samurai look to break a 2 game losing streak, 2-5 would be hard to come back from. I think a London will win, but it will be tough with potentially Brent Stanton missing.

Seoul need a strong victory against Beijing to stay in contention, as they have failed when it counts so far this year after clinching the preseason title. Beijing are improving, and could fancy themselves a sneaky chance, but I don't think so.

Cairo are out of the 8 on percentage alone, and will likely see themselves in the 8 with a strong victory against New Delhi this week.

Reckon Mexico City will pinch top spot no matter what the result of the Pumas-Cobras this week :)

Gotta agree with you there Ossie. Doesn't matter though at this point of the season.

Suns still have to play Pumas twice and Armadillos once

3 potential losses there. Although looking like 50/50 games at the moment so a reasonable chance to drop 2 and could get unlucky and drop all 3.

Any other team could also upset them along the way.

Why are they playing me twice nails? I thought we played each team once and then it was finals.

Ignore me. Moment of stupidity

My point still stands though have 2 games against us total.

Was Suns/Pumas not Pumas/Cobras

And you played them in round 17 so got confused.

Suns still a good chance for 2 losses and Pumas could easily sneak in for first there.

Here's hoping Garlett and Cooney also continue there form and I'm sure Watson + Cotch will bounce back this week. Was lucky to get the win against NYR and it's only getting harder against the Puma's this round... need to play to full strength if we're to get the W!

Ugh, I knew I shouldn't have said anything about the good health of my list, as in the last three weeks, I have lost:

Jack Grimes, Jack Trengove, Reece Conca, Brad Crouch, Setanta O'hAilpin and Mark Jamar :(

Have swung the axe this week, got rid of the worst 4 scoring players, jeez boys, you gotta bounce back *looking at you Lance Franklin*

Not confident at all with this team, McDonald and Matera come back in without really earning it, not confident Lucas, King, Gawn and Jackson are consistent players, and Garland, Edwards and Otten can fail as well :/

Having said all this, I believe we can bounce back and bring home the win :)

Also, a special shout out to Michael Hibberd, Daniel Wells and Matthew Stokes who continue to lead the way

great 2 starting backs and 2 starting forward out this week. Good thing i have guys pushing up. Aaron black deserves a spot anyway he has been great. Thomas murphy has been great 76 average out of knowhere playing the dees this week could do well. Siera gets his first game in the green looking forward to a good score from him.

shows the depth of the sqaud with starters like Watts, M.Clark, Schoenemakers, Docehrty out and guys like Bootsma, Plowman, Harper, hansen also missing who were supposed to be cover for thsoe guys.

Whether Ryder will play or not is still questionable, have to go out just after 6 so hopefully we know for sure by then! Will post the team either way later on, waiting on Ryder and Sunday interchanges.

Grima "general soreness" this week really doesn't help with the big North American clash!

Big blow with Lenny Hayes getting inured in the warmup last week and not being quite ready to return, but Nathan Foley is back for his first game of the year and his first game for the warriors which will also be against his old club the Suns. He has immediately been elevated to vice captain now there is no Walker or Hayes in the team.

D - Brennan, Scotland, Burgoyne, SD Thompson
M - Swan (C), Kornes (VC), Barlow, Boyd
R - Warnock
F - Petrie, Cox, Johnson, Harvey
INT - Carrazzo, Schulz
EMG - Cross, Dalziell, J. McKenzie

Daniel Cross unlucky not to get a game but he's just not good enough to fit in the team. Looks like

Brent Harvey is back! But seriously? Still no Chapman? ::) As Warnock has been dynamite averaging 105.5 for us this year he gets another run in the ruck.

No forward emergency this week as Stewart, Bradley and Chapman all unavailable. Perhaps I'd be smarter to put Cross as INT and Schulz as emg but I guess we'll see.

3 mid emergencies this week as it'd turn out. Hopefully everyone destroys. Good luck Islanders, you'll need it. ;)

Stokes has been simply brilliant this year, Hibberd more so. Hibberd actually got his lowest score of the year - 86 - so he is having a ripper year.

Selwood could have been a lot better, so a low century from him isn't too bad for the Brewers cause.

Unless I've forgotten who the other Tuck is.

Maybe he should be a UTI :o 28 DT with 11:32 to go in 1st quarter!

Will probably end with 40 SC after 4 quarters though lol.

546/6 according to my calculations, not entirely sure how correct that is, may have forgotten a game in there haha.

Hopefully Spitta's OK :-/ Was sitting right above the benches and he was able to put weight on it and walk (to an extent) so hopefully not too bad. Only iced once the game was over. Not as bad as first thought hopefully. Apparently just bruising.

Pendles starting quietly Sid.

Cape Town Cobras   894   9 (Broughton, Sylvia, Smith, Garlett, Dunn, Curnow)

Buenos Aires Armadillos   1191   11 (Scotland, Carrazzo, Warnock, Brennan)
Pacific Islanders   694   7 (Dawes, Howe, Ellard, Jaensch, Stanley, Mohr, Brown, Terlich)
Prediction: Islanders going well! But Buenos Aires with the points on the board

Prediction: Mexico City

Toronto Wolves   918   9 (Robinson, McLean, Nicholson, Jones, Jamison, Shaw)
New York Revolution   508   8 (Bennell C, Greene, Giles, Prestia, McKenzie, Smith, Siposs)

I accidentally named Tuck twice (mid 1 and interchange 1) so I'll have to bring in emg 1 for  the interchange Tuck, who is Seedsman.

Have had to take the amazing (169, 132 and 129) with the bad (56, 50, 15) and for once my captain broke 80 :o

Would like 300 from my remaining three players to take me well into the 140s, hopefully that's enough. Just wish my players could all play good in the same week instead of this stuff :X our best and fairest is going to look a bit odd at the end of the season.

Extremely disappointing effort from the Royals this week with not 1 player scoring more than 100 so far. Midfield a total disaster this week missing the influence of regular Captain Stanton.

Defenders:  REILLY, Brent ; MACKIE, Andrew (62) ; O'BRIEN, Harry (70);  GILHAM, Stephen
Mids:  MACKAY, David;  BROADBENT, Matthew  (57); HANNEBERY, Daniel (c) (86); McVEIGH, Jarrad  (Vc) (88)

Am so pissed off right now! Had 6 forwards named this week, so had to choose which 2 not to play. Obviously Roughy and Walker get a gig and so it's then between Porps, Smith, Gunston and Wright for who to play. Of course I choose Porps and Smith who combine for just 76 points, instead of Gunston and Wright who score 221 between them ::)

Needing Ablett to have a monster game otherwise I am screwed :(

Prestia and Bennell both had very good games to make sure we cracked the 1k mark...Was looking like we weren't going to after last night. :o

1,191/11 captain played.

Impressive 116 from Brennan. Thought he might score well playing against the Demons. Imagine if he didn't get stretchered off in the 3rd quarter! It's kind of annoying though. Probably going to be a defender short next week with Brennan and Gilbert both potentially missing.

1,307/12 + 53 HGA (currently)

Still on track for a good score. Could have been huge if Swan fired, oh well.

Hartlett 29, Roberton, Houli 104, McMahon 71
Ablett (C) 304, Sloane 105, Zaharakis 115, Duncan 57
Minson 120

Total - 1,261/13

As usual Ablett pulls out a big game when needed most. His 304 points has put me right back in it!

From my calcs the Cobras are 1,256/13, so currently I have a 5 point lead with 2 players left each, plus HGA for me (currently 29). Players left are Walker and Roberton for me vs Garlett and Curnow for the Cobras. Going to be a tight finish!

Little shout out to Robert Warnock. We decided to give him a run in the ruck so we could play Cox down forward due to lack of forward depth a few weeks ago. Warnock has now played 3 games for us this season at a 114 average!

Disappointing late withdrawal by Carrazzo. Not only is it the regular issue of playing a lesser player than selected in the XV. Carrazzo being a late out cost us 7 points on the HGA!!!!!!

It is Cross that replaces Carrotz yes?

Armadillos score - 1,620.

Well unfortunately didn't even get a draw. Curnow gets his score scaled from 58 to 76! :o So lose the game 1,430 to 1,445. So much for Cobras always scoring 140 or 141 :(

Well done MC, very close encounter! My poor selection choices are what lost it for me though (plus Curnow's crazy +18 after scaling)!

So annoying since I would have beaten 13 of the 17 teams this week, just had to play one of the 4 that I would lose to :(

Mexico are brilliant  :D
Fit team, minimal injuries. Everyone scoring consistently well.
Adam Goodes, Brian Lake, Stew Crameri and Jarrad Waite all knocking on the door.

Londons depth starting to be tested now with injuries.  This was always going to be a concern as we continue building.
Will be happy if we still manage to remain competitive and in the Top 8.

Cheers CF!
Thought I'd lost it with Walker and Roberton around 50 at half time and my boys nowhere to be seen, but a good last quarter from Curnow and my new favourite Garlett just did enough!

And look at the reserves! What a score. Proud of the whole team.

Dublin would be extremely happy with that effort, the biggest score in there WXV career!

Berlin, meanwhile, are injury ravaged and have passengers in there team. They have fallen out of the 8.

Berlin Brewers (19.17.131) lost to Dublin Destroyers (21.20.146)

Best
Berlin: J Steven, M Stokes, D Swallow
Dublin: T Goldstein, S Day, D Mundy, J Selwood

Late Changes
Berlin: TJ Lynch replaced T McDonald

WXV Debut
Dublin: W Sierakowski

Club Debut
Berlin: J King

Reserves
Rhineland Rum-Runners (9.8.62) defeated Belfast Braves (5.3.33)

Best
Rhineland: L Henderson, J Sellar
Belfast: Nil

Yeah, Tom Lynch isn't a defender, and neither Jackson or Matera is a defender, so I moved Henderson into McDonalds place?
