Round 14
(AFL Round 16)
New Delhi Tigers v Cape Town Cobras Nepal
Cairo Sands v Seoul Magpies Borg El Arab Stadium, Alexandria, Egypt
Beijing Thunder v London Royals Beijing Olympic Park
Tokyo Samurai v Berlin Brewers National Olympic Stadium, Tokyo
Dublin Destroyers v Moscow Spetsnaz Crooke Park
Paris Nice Lyon Reindeers v Toronto Wolves State de France
New York Revolution v Wellington Warriors MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, USA
Mexico City Suns v Buenos Aires Armadillos Guadalajara
Pacific Islanders v Sao Paulo Pumas BSP Stadium
Highlights:
Star Cobra Jobe Watson is down and out for the count and will likely miss the rest of the regular season, as Cape Town lost in the biggest upset of the season to Beijing. Surely they can pull themselves together and defeat New Delhi? The Cobras have slipped to 7th, after one stage being locked in the top 4. Another loss will see them in danger of losing a finals spot. Amazing. Meanwhile the New Delhi Tigers are showing more and more promise each week, as new coach elephants looks to make his mark.
A match between between 6th and 8th at this stage of the year is always going to be huge! Can Cairo continue its 4 match winning streak and push for a home elimination finals? Or can the Dangerfield led Seoul consolidate its position in the top 8? A whole bunch of teams outside the 8 will be depending on this result.
Beijing won! Beijing won! With there smallest squad of the year, they scored there highest for the year! Suddenly, they can avoid the wooden spoon. Won't be easy though, they still need to win at least once! London returned to form last week, and still have ambitions of making the finals - currently sitting in 9th spot out by only percentage. London will be desperate to notch up this win to put the pressure on Seoul, Cape Town and Cairo.
Berlin can't afford to lose to Tokyo. A loss, and the season is basically ended. The Brewers have fantastic depth, but they lack the superstars to help them consolidate a spot. Meanwhile, Tokyo can only hope to cause havoc for the rest of the year. This is as good a chance as any!
Dublin score 160+ out of nowhere last week! And are still a slim hope of making finals, a very good hope if they continue to score like that. Moscow were disappointing last week, and almost fell to the lowly Islanders, but have shifted to 3rd on the ladder on the back of a 9 match winning streak. Very much a danger game.
PNL defeated Toronto in the last round of the 2012 season to signal they will be strong next year. Now on a match that honours Bastille Day, can they live up to that promise? So far PNL have been an 'almost' side, and a 1 point loss to Seoul has eliminated there hopes of making the finals. Toronto, meanwhile, still have ambitions to make the top 4 - and basically they need to win every single match to be able to do that!
New York fell in a heap last week after a massive round before. Which New York will show up this week? Wellington with Murphy and Hayes back have the capacity to score ok if things go there way, and are still in danger of the wooden spoon given Beijing's upset win. Danger game for the New Yorkers.
Despite both finishing top 4 last year, the Armadillos and Suns missed each other in the finals. The Suns have not been impressive the last two weeks, but have won both clashes, while the Armadillos have been a basket case - and also won both clashes! Never have 1st v 2nd been in worse form. I'll back in the Suns to basically secure the minor premiership.
The Islanders almost managed to upset Moscow last week, but will need to play much better against a Sao Paulo suddenly in danger of losing a top 4 spot. I can't see the Pumas - who have been unlucky the last two weeks - losing this clash though.
Mexico City Suns:
Def: B.Goddard (C), D.Merrett, J.Adcock, B.Lake.
Mids: S.Sidebottom, S.Thompson, B.Ebert, L.Hodge.

Frwds: J.Bartel (VC), N.Riewoldt, J.Lewis, M.Lecras.
Bench: M.Blicavs, A.Sandilands.
Emg: B.Vince, M.Baguley, D.Addison.
Missing some players, but shouldnt matter.
Brandon Jack dominant in the reserves, can't play him though. His rookie listed :(
Enright, Waite, Moloney and Crameri are out while Maric, Merrett, Blicavs and Riewoldt come into the side.

Sewlood playing the dees :)
I'm very interested in Destroyers v Spetsnaz! Can shape the ladder a bit :)

I have 1 position letting me down and that utility spot 2. Sandi has come back and massively hurt Clarke. I think the Naz will beat me but I will put up a good fight. If Jelly goes big I will be hard to beat.
Most pressure on the Royals this week. Thunder coming off a win + they are siting at 9th place ;)
Feeling it already Q - Awaiting the club medical reports to ascertain who we now have available. Injuries have crueled us after great start to season. Hopefully can get over the Thinder this week.

Mexico has the best rookie list.
Brandon Jack and Mark Blicavs :D
With our Best XV really starting to take shape with the emergence of Michael Talia in defense (#gun), along with some other players in Cale Hooker, Sammy Mayes, Krooz and more stepping up who knows what we might see from the Thunder for the remainder of the season!
A recall of a few players like Sam Kerridge, Gumby, Kane Mitchell etc would really help us out though!
Can't wait for this weekend's game!!

I thought about it, but I like to live life dangerously. See: The Petrenko Saga. ::)
I have until tomorrow night to switch it to Eski vs the Giants, so we'll see. I bet if we don't make him captain he'll score like 120 and if we do he'll be sub. :-X
You'll get to see if he's sub tomorrow night though before lockout ;)

He would be more likely to get subbed off than to start sub I would think.
Defense in shatters this week with my 3 mainstays last season all missing this week, i.e Waters, Houli and McMahon! Gonna have to delve deep in defense this week...
Maybe, but Daisy came back in a green vest for a few weeks iirc...
I'll pray to the Lord above, me and him are total bros, he wouldn't do this to me.
Ablett back in to the side, but Houli still missing. Due to some worrying injuries in defense Seb Tape comes in for his first game of the season after overcoming a knee injury and Brendan Whitecross also gets his first game of the season. Expecting a much better performance this week from the Pumas against the Islanders.
P.S. That's a very Hawthornesque forward line!
Think you put your vice captain's name in the wrong box.
Dillos have Suns this week (tough) and Pumas in champions league #toughlife
Haha whoops ::) Vice Captain is big Will Minson, can't be bothered fixing up the pic though.
In regards to the champions league at least you have most of your team back now to play. My defense is in shatters and I can't seem to ever pick the right player, whichever one I don't choose always seems to go better than the one I do, so I would ay that you are favourites for the clash...
Did someone say Hawthorn-esque forward line?
Hale, Breust, Puopolo... Is that the whole Hawks forward six between Pumas and Cairo? :o
EDIT: Wait... Buddy, God damn Berlin.
Haha what can I say nigey, they've got a very nice forward line! :D

Some big outs for us. Westhoff (suspended) and McPharlin (injured) are replaced by TDL and McInnes. McInnes showed last year he could score decently, while TDL has found a great place up forward. It's a big call to put in Shiel over Ball, but Jones/Rich/Simpson are put on high alert with Smith and Ball both in solid form as well! With our hope for a finals birth now officially over, doesn't hurt to take a few risks with the youngsters! Some have earned a shot at first team action after several weeks for Marseilles.

Wolves swing the axe this week after a dominant reserves performance. That last forward spot a little hard to fill with Jolly down. Lots of depth in the midfield with 4 of my 6 best in the reserves last week midfielders. Due to this I've decided to drop Young until I see a bit more of his role with Beams back in the side. Still have faith he'll be back in the best XV in no time.
Clint Jones and Ash McGrath leave the emergency list for the first time in a while, with the 3 omitted players filling those spots.
Levi Greenwood, the little fiery tagger that I was close to delisting over the off season has really impressed me this year and earnt his spot, not entirely sure I'll have to check with Oss but I have a feeling it's his first WXV game. After his heroics to win the game a couple of years back against the Lions it was hard not to give him a go at repeating that effort. Go get em son!
Shaw has actually been relatively consistent in defence this season and hoping he can go alright against the Tiges up in Cairns, while Nicholson was ordinary last week and could struggle in a slaughter at the Cattery.
Edwards despite being ordinary last week gets an inclusion, have faith he'll bounce back against the Suns.
I predicted a big reserves score last week and I was right, got a feeling I could be pushing 170 again with this depth. Which is good and bad I guess, hopefully I still manage to fall under the points cap!

Levi Greenwood! This will be his first game Toronto colours for sure, but last year he played for the mighty Pacific Islanders and played 2 matches at 44.50. You must have traded him first, and than thought about delisting him anyway :)
Haha whoops, I swore I had Greenwood last year.
Now I remember getting him as a bit of a sweetener in the trade, certainly wasn't the main target of the trade. Maybe not delisting but I wasn't that keen on him, my North bias the only reason I didn't say hell no!
Has certainly stepped up since last year, hoping he can get about twice that average for me this weekend!

^^ On that, bloody oath, I cannot lose this, otherwise the year is kaput. Very important match for my Brewers.
There is not one player that I can trust with the (C) week in, week out. Hopefully Hibberd is due for a ton. Also, putting Hendo in the forward line for the first time, think my defenders are beginning to improve.

I've did that a couple of times last season with Jacobs, Minson and Griffin (4 if you count Roughy). Just checked and it was 3 times to be exact. Had combined scores from the 3 weeks of 284, 298, and 321, so can be used very effectively :)
Meanwhile Cape Town have played 0 ruckman more times than I'm willing to admit :P

In the round where we really needed 160 from him. He also let my DT down. 73 at HT 106 FT. If you're on 73 at HT you should at least score 120 DT.

Really weird decision by Dimma IMO.... :o
I simply cannot choose which week to play Nicholson! Passed last week's score already early in the 3rd.

Brennan looking like a horrible score could hurt us.
In the champs league: Ablett will destroy us provided he doesn't do what White Goodman Swan did and dies in the 4th quarter.
Ablett 3QT - 89 SC
Swan 3QT - 101 SC
Bet Ablett destroys us in Champions.
So glad I didn't drop Broughton!
Hawkins on the other hand... :(
26 minutes into Q1...
Carrazzo on 2 DT. flower you're useless this year Carrazzo.
Brennan scores 100+ every time we don't name him. Pretty much every time we have named him he scores in the 30s.
Just realised that I could of named Josh Hall in the ruck... Scored 47 which wouldn't have been a great help, but probably better than half of Curnows score!
Just saw that Guthrie was also the sub while O'Shea scored 85... not my best selection this week!
Robbo pulling out late and getting Aaron Hall's 30 to replace doesn't help... probably should have named McGrath as emergency instead, 42 at the half. First week in a while that I've dropped McGrath off the emergency list.
Aaron Edwards subbed off when he was on track for 90+ doesn't help...
Shaw 87 DT 66 SC doesn't help...why couldn't you bloody win Suns
Still, Cunners, Swallow, Greenwood, McLean, kinda Ziebell playing well, Grima, Zorko, Maguire struggling a little but hopefully Pendles can still get me over the line
Carrotz subbed off has flowered us ::)
Karma for bagging your players all the time lol
Merrett was on 23 at 3QT...
Now in our Forward line is going to destroy it and wreck WXVs and boost the Suns' HGA.

Would have said before the Suns' game we were easily in the driving seat. Brennan, Carrazzo and to a lesser extent Scotland all ruining the day.
End of the day difference between Suns and Dillos at the moment: When the Sun's player is playing shower they have a huge last quarter to boost their score. e.g. Merrett.
When a Dillos' player is playing shower they stay shower or when they're playing gun (except for Stevie J) they go mediocre. Harvey 80 at HT - 115 FT. Swan 89 at HT only 126 at FT. Brennan and Carrazzo staying shower too. Kick in the teeth.

A few interesting things of note today. Extremely impressed with Seb Tape scoring 70 in his first game back, I was just hoping for something above 50, but expecting a score in the 40's so very happy. Whitecross was a little disappointing, but still finding form after injury. Roughy brilliant as usual! But my biggest praise goes to Gunston because he is becoming a jet! Scored his 7th hundred in his last 8 games with his only non hundred a score of 94. Averaging 106 over this time which is just awesome. Along with my Walker trade possibly my best trade! And Boomz said earlier this year that he won the trade, oh how wrong he was (short term anyway)! :D

Consistency beats the occasional outright star. It's what we needed from Brennan and Carrazzo along with our other spuds.

Was incredibly lucky in that win, Franklin and Stokes both late withdrawals hurt, but that was counter-acted by Trent West, Seb Ross and Nick Suban (even E3 Jacob Townsend) having no-shows.
The win was brought to you by Daniel Jackson (137), Jack Steven (127), Lachlan Henderson (125) and Daniel Wells (101). This was your win fellas.

Meanwhile, 153 point thrashing in the reserves was painful to watch!
Get used to it! :P
Not gonna lie, I'm actually pretty happy with this week's effort! Team is finally starting to show something! :)

no problem nails, you say that now but not sure you want Dublin sneaking into the finals.
140 with hansen getting a zero and watts getting under 30.
I could have easily have gone 150+
anyone worried about dublin yet?
Sorry! My bad, Dublin got 137 not 140 - doesn't make a real difference. (Doubled Watts not Hansen)
140 is a minnow score.
Dillos average 150 and come finals time we should have most our stars back. Our missing stars brought down our average a fair bit.
Dillos have played the Pumas way too many times this season. Once in WXV, twice in champs league and looks like there could be a Puma vs. Dillos final (or two)
Hope we finish in 2nd and after we beat Puma with HGA we won't even come up against Dublin as they'll already be eliminated ;)
If you finish 2nd then I will most likely finish 4th because I will most likely have lost a game, which would mean Moscow would go past me too...
There's like only 0.3% between us on the ladder and with some subpar teams for us to play against us I reckon we can sneak in.
A few guns to return eventually I hope. Stevie J will probably wreck us and get suspended.
Ah didn't realise percentage was so close! Well I play the Tigers this week so will boost my percentage up more, then Dublin and Mexico, amazingly Dublin is now a danger game too! :o
I hope I don't have to play Pumas in week 1 finals, that seems more like a punishment for finishing first!
Haha that does sound like a punishment! Maybe you should throw your game against me in round 17 to ensure I finish second? ;)

Shiel been in hot form, and if he wasn't tagging could have won it :'(. Or if we played say Jones over TDL... We're like the Kangas this year, winning a few, losing alot of close matches and won't make the finals.
