Title: WXV Round 15 - Do or die for Magpies, Brewers, Revolution and Destroyers
Post by: ossie85 on April 13, 2013, 02:49:48 PM
Round 15
(AFL Round 17)

Cape Town Cobras       v       Moscow Spetsnaz       Newlands Cricket Ground
Berlin Brewers       v       Toronto Wolves       Olympic Stadium, Berlin
London Royals       v       Wellington Warriors       Wembley
Seoul Magpies       v       Buenos Aires Armadillos       Seoul World Cup Stadium
Sao Paulo Pumas       v       New Delhi Tigers       Estádio do Pumas
Cairo Sands       v       Pacific Islanders       Borg El Arab Stadium, Alexandria, Egypt
Beijing Thunder v       Mexico City Suns       Beijing Olympic Park
Tokyo Samurai       v       New York Revolution       National Olympic Stadium, Tokyo
Dublin Destroyers       v       Paris Nice Lyon Reindeers       Crooke Park

Cape Town v Moscow
The Cobras broke a 4-match losing streak, but it was only against New Delhi. While Moscow lost its winning streak to the fast improving Dublin. Cape Town outscored Moscow last week, and this game suddenly looks dangerous. No Watson for Cape Town helps Moscow's cause.

Cobra Run Home: Moscow (H), London (A), Pacific (H)
Chances are the Cobras are finals bound if they beat Pacific - but it isn't a certainty. 2 wins give a certain top 8 finish (something that was never in doubt 5 weeks ago) and maybe even a home elimination final.

Spetsnaz Run Home: Cape Town (A), New Delhi (A), Tokyo (A)
Top 4 beckons for Moscow if they are good enough! BUT Toronto are breathing down there neck. A loss to Cape Town could see Toronto steal a spot in the top 4 from them, depending on percentage.

Berlin v Toronto
Toronto are guaranteed finals, but are after greater glories and are on a 5 match winning streak. Berlin's form has been very patchy of late 2 wins and an average of 133 over the last 5 rounds.

Brewer Run Home: Toronto (H), Seoul (A), Beijing (A)
Although still a chance if they win only 2 of the next 3 to make the finals, in reality they really need to win all three. Toronto the major stumbling block, with the inconsident Seoul and cellar dweller Beijing to finish.

Wolf Run Home: Berlin (A), Cairo (A), Dublin (A)
Travelling a lot to finish the year, Toronto can make the top 4 if they win all there games and other results go there way. But all of Berlin, Cairo and Dublin are capable of matching it with Toronto on a good day, and it wouldn't surprise me if they slip up against one of them.

London v Wellington
London impressive last week and should have no trouble against Wellington - but stranger things have happened.

Royal Run Home: Wellington (H), Cape Town (H), Cairo (A)
Have put themselves in a wonderful position to make the finals. Assuming no choke against Wellington, a win against either Cape Town or Cairo should be enough for them to qualify. But both sides are above them on the ladder, and this could be easier said then done.

Warrior Run Home: London (A), Beijing (A), PNL (A)
A 9 match losing streak and Wellington are in danger of finishing last this year. Will basically all come down to the Round 16 away clash to Beijing, and as Beijing have the superior pecentage, this is the season defining clash.

Seoul v Buenos Aires

A catastrophic effort last week undid a lot of Seoul's efforts over the last month, while Buenos Aires are pulling together a strong team.

Magpie Run Home: Buenos Aires (H), Berlin (H), New Delhi (A)
Still possible to make the finals for winning 2 out of 3, but given the competition three is likely needed still. Surely Seoul won't miss the 8 on percentage again? Buenos Aires the tough match, Berlin a 50-50 at best before what should be an easy win against New Delhi to finish the year. Patrick Dangerfield injury concerns hold the key.

Armadillo Run Home: Seoul (A), Tokyo (A), New York (A)
2 losses could see the Armadillos miss the 4, and 2 wins could see them have a home qualifying final. Very tight, and thankfully they are fielding a full team again. An injury or suspension could make life difficult, with Seoul, Tokyo and New York all having the capacity to have good days, and all those matches on the road.

Sao Paulo v New Delhi

Pumas have remembered how to win, and will likely win again against the struggling but improving New Delhi in the battle of the cats.

Puma Run Home: New Delhi (H), Dublin (A), Mexico City (A)
Pumas still a small chance of taking out the Minor Premiership if they beat Mexico City and the Suns are upset somewhere else, but should be more concerned about there top 4 hopes. A loss to Mexico City and to an improving Dublin could see the recent Champions League trophy winners miss out.

Tiger Run Home: Sao Paulo (A), Moscow (H), Seoul (H)
Terrible run home, and hard to see where a win will come from - maybe Seoul on a bad day. Will avoid the spoon though.

Cairo v Pacific

Cairo stuttered a bit last week, but with Dayne Beams likely on the improve, they should have no problem accounting for the Pacific.

Sands Run Home: Pacific (H), Toronto (H), London (H)
Sands are finals bound baring a catastrophe against the Pacific, but finish the year with two tricky matches. Top 4 out of reach, but a home elimination final is there's for the taking.

Islander Run Home: Cairo (A), PNL (A), Cape Town (A)
PNL looks like there best hope for a win, and even that is slim. A victory to Beijing over Wellington could see the spoon decided on percentage, so margins are important!

Beijing v Mexico City

Last v 1st, and the Thunder have basically no chance of upsetting the Suns.

Thunder Run Home: Mexico City (H), Wellington (H), Berlin (H)
Finish the year at home, and a win against Wellington could see them avoid the spoon.

Suns Run Home: Beijing (A), New York (A), Sao Paulo (H)
Two wins guarantees the Suns first minor premiership, with New York a potentially tricky match. A loss to New York, and the Minor Premiership could be decided in the last round against the Pumas.

Tokyo v New York

The Samurai are injury ravaged and looking to finish off this disappointing year as soon as possible, while New York must win this match to stay in the finals hunt.

Samurai Run Home: New York (H), Buenos (H), Moscow (H)
The poor Samurai may finish on 4-13 by seasons end, and are still a mathematical chance of finishing bottom 4.

Revolution Run Home: Tokyo (A), Mexico City (H), Buenos (H)
2 wins maybe finals, 3 wins likely needed. Unfortunately they finish the year against two of the current top 4. The Revolution will truly have come if they manage to make the finals from here.

Dublin v PNL
Chances are PNL will lose this by a point or two! Dublin is in very solid form recently, and look to be peaking. Maybe a bit too late..

Destroyer Run Home: PNL (H), Sao Paulo (H), Toronto (H)
A tough last 3 weeks, and given percentage, will likely need to win all three. Are in strong form, but the Pumas and Wolves will go in as favourites. Even if they lose all three, going from 2 wins to finals contention in a year is a fantastic effort.

Reindeer Run Home: Dublin (A), Pacific (H), Wellington (H)
Can end Dublin's season this week, before hopefully a couple of consolation victories to end an unlucky year.

London, in 8th spot, play Wellington for a game they should win.

Meaning if either of Seoul, Berlin, New York or Dublin lose - and none of there matches I would consider guarantees - lose, they will be 2 games out of the 8, with 2 games left to play.

You could say Seoul, Berlin, New York and Dublin all have elimination finals this week!

LOL! Laughed for quite a while actually  :D

Huge match against Toronto, I like to consider myself a chance albeit underdogs. Pendles is surely due for a shocker, or at least a measly 110  :-\

Never....cast your mind back to Collingwood vs GC where the great man broke his leg early in the game, subbed off at half time and still tonned up.

With Swallow and Ziebell under minor clouds I may be relying on Pendles again.... :-/

3 of my best players in their positions all at the flowering tribunal and all likely to miss

After I have players like Cross (load of bullshower), Boyd, Gilbert, Chapman, Warnock and co. all missing already

QuotePaul Chapman will make a comeback in the VFL this Friday night

Not only do we have 3 players flowered over through suspension...

Chapman is returning to the wrong competition :'(

Though good to see he's getting fit again. It's going to be a huge struggle for Dillos to get top 2 after 3 suspensions this week and would be surprised if Dalziell does not get dropped.

That's the same as me saying why did I have to play Cobras round 7. I have scored more than them every single week except rounds 7 and 12, yet had to play them in round 7 :(

You all got nothing on PNL - have scored the 8th most points in the comp over 2 years, but have the equal least amount of wins :/

its a little different the dillos in the second half of the season are middle of the road, the dillos in the first half of the season are almost much an auto loss.

And that is why I'm probably going to get the sack if I can't improve! Didn't know we were equal least amount of wins...... Injuries, lacking position, then the close losses, we can't buy any luck :'(.

lol your not wrong there Ossie cant wait for the season to be over been hit very hard by injuries when all fit i don't think we re a bottom 4 side so the top 5 pick is a bonus really, though has been a painful year

just need to get a decent ruckmen and a defender in trade season

Thought it couldn't get much worse this week with my highest average player suspended, one of my best midfielders suspended and one of my best defenders suspended

Now I read this

QuoteAFL ‏@AFL 11m
Chappy's had a setback

Quotehamstring soreness to rule him out of his scheduled VFL return on Friday night.

The 31-year-old was supposed to play his first game since round four in Geelong's VFL team against Collingwood.

Missing since round 4? I've been missing some of my best players quite a bit through the season. Would be nice to get Chappy back.

OUT: L.Greenwood, M.Robinson

Robbo named as emergency for the Blues so assuming that his "injury" last week was more of a dropping situation. Ugh, what a pickup he was... McGrath can be a little hot and cold so gave him a run and hoping that he's hot this week!

Greenwood a puzzling omission on North's behalf, has been doing a great job recently and certainly shown a lot more ticker than some other North players...none the less, that means I have to drop him after a solid debut match. Young comes back in.

Same goes for the Nicholson omission down at Melbourne....what?? Perhaps these AFL coaches are trying to ensure I stay under the points cap. How very thoughtful of them

My Collingwood boys aren't tracking too well (besides you Pendles) with Young going down again (again, what a ripper pickup  ::)) and missing probably another month, while Jolly still not predicted to return until about Rd20 (AFL Rd20) which is unfortunate...would make a big difference to the lineup with those two, Robbo and Nicholson/Pedo in for Edwards, McGrath, Jones and Shaw.

Ah well, depleted lineup this week but no Buddy for the Brewers does help slightly, I'm not gonna lie :P

I reckon I smashed you in trades nails.

Trade 1:
Chapman and B.Harvey for Crameri + Picks 51 and 52.

Trade 2:
Gilbert and Cross for Hurn.

I reckon I won trade 1

You won trade 2

Chappy and Harvey have both been putting up decent numbers and hopefully they'll both be playing WXVs finals. Really depends if they're both there for finals.

I went to young and traded away all my good older backs. Could really use Thompson Grima Eski and Burgoyne right about now. Too much faith in young backs.

Docherty, Schoenmakers, Murphy, Plowman, Bootsma out is killing me and Hansen and Day are playing down back in real AFL but are stuck up front where I dont need them.

what really sucks is i had to delist ugle, so i could put 5 spuds on my rookie list who are useless.

Dublin will lose its last 3 games and get knocked out in the idol this week.

Hearing whispers Robbo may be in for Murphy, would be a big help. Not sure whether I'll be back by lockout or not so I think I may just take the risk and name Robbo now and if he's out I'll have the same player (Hall) replace him, all I'll lose is an emergency spot. Despite his ordinary form would hate to have him scoring well and I'd be unable to utilise his score.

Edwards dropped from the Richmond team, disgraceful! Forward line in absolute shambles, please play Robbo!

Robbo doesn't get the callup so Hall fills his spot. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel forwards wise! Real shame Hickey hasn't come on as I'd expected, would be a lot easier if I could play Ryder forward.

Hall comes in and White onto the emergency list.

Should also add that this week's captaincy choice was 50% to do with Steven's form and 50% to do with Ossie's influence i.e. constantly asking me why he wasn't captain haha.

So, quite clearly, if I lose this week, it's all ossie's fault :P

To my great surprise, if you go off this years World's statistics (i.e. not AFL half of Round 12 and all of Round 13), and you round up each of my and Toronto's players' averages, I actually win (with Home Ad of course  :P)

But players never go to averages, as testament to everything to quarter time in the North - Blues game going wrong for me  ::)

Grima, Swallow, Ziebell going pretty good, Lucas and Wells going terribly

Every single man and his dog traded Gibbs in for his 120... I traded him in the week after and he has been terrible each week for me. I should have Benched him for Hartlett...

Hope Gibbs stays down as Seoul's captain. A Gibbs 50*2 would have us right back in this!

Amazing how much North winning or losing can define my score!

Def: Grima (78), Johnson, Maguire, Shaw
Mid: Pendles (C), Swallow (72), Ziebell (99), McLean (61)
Ruc: Ryder
Fwd: JRoo, Zorko, McGrath, Hall
Int: Cunners (88), Jones

398/5

Swallow very quiet second half particularly the last term, Ziebell injured for a fair period of time and still a good score, McLean sub very frustrating, Cunners played well but his out on the full shots on goal would have taken him to 110+ if he slotted them, ah well. Grima I thought played pretty well, North's loss the main reason for his score being lower.

Fair to say if North won that Grima and Swallow would most likely be 85+, Ziebell and Cunners 100+ and McLean in the 40s or 50s.

Please start winning North :P

Cape Town Cobras   672   7 (Cotchin C, Kennedy, Hawkins, O'Keefe, Bird, Chaplin, Spurr)
Moscow Spetsnaz   1006   10 (Naitanui, Fyfe, Martin, Darling, Walters)
Prediction: I think the Spetsnaz are in trouble if Cotchin goes well, will back the Cobras

Berlin Brewers   996   10 (Edwards, Jackson, Stokes, Crouch, Everitt)
Toronto Wolves   1060   13 (Riewoldt, M Johnson)
Prediction: If the Brewers don't win from here, they don't deserve the finals, as Toronto's top 4 hopes slip away

London Royals   670   8 (McVeigh, Pearce, Hannebery, Mayne, Mackie, Hill, Laird)
Wellington Warriors   951   12 (Foley, Hannath, Mzungu)
Prediction: Wellington a sneaky chance! But McVeigh and Hannebery should see London home

Seoul Magpies   538   7 (Deledio, Kennedy, Kelly, Duffield, Corey, Bolton, Hunt, Ellis)
Buenos Aires Armadillos   880   9 (Cox, Barlow, Dea, Lyons, Dalziell)
Prediction: Really 11 plaers, not 9, for Buenos Aires but they are still a chance of winning. Can Seoul recover? I'll back Buenos Aires

Sao Paulo Pumas   894   8 (Sloane, Jacobs, Masten, Houli, Porplyzia, Hill, Duncan)
New Delhi Tigers   842   8 (Ibbotson, Wellingham, Rutten, White, Podsiadly, Murdoch, Vlastuin)
Prediction: Will back the Pumas, but the Tigers still a chance! Would've been a lot more interesting if Ablett hadn't gone nuts.

Cairo Sands   1060   10 (Mumford, Pearce, Malceski, Douglas, Hutchings)
Pacific Islanders   1128   12 (de Boer, Mitchell, Brown)
Prediction: Pacific could pull off a miracle, but Cairo have the slight edge

Beijing Thunder   617   9 (Caddy, Rosa, Taylor C, Varcoe, Neale, Hunt)
Mexico City Suns   905   9 (Maric, Sandilands, Bartel, Thompson, Enright, Vince)
Prediction: Suns have too much quality

Tokyo Samurai   285   4 (Shuey, Jack C, McGlynn, West, Richards, Suban, Parker, Motlop, Henderson, Smith, Tippett)
New York Revolution   951   10 (Pyke, Gaff, Smith, Jenkins, Morton)
Prediction: New York with the points on the board.... but if Jack goes nuts..

Dublin Destroyers   953   11 (Selwood C, Rance, Mundy, Clarke)
PNL Reindeers   1268   13 (Priddis, Lynch)
Prediction: Surely PNL won't lose another close one? Dublin's season could finish today...

London Royals update.

The one week when I really can not pay full attention due to travelling a little carnage occurs but hopefully we may get home.

Defenders: REID, Ben (73) ; MACKIE, Andrew,  LAIRD, Rory;  GILHAM, Stephen/TUOHY, Zac (70)
Mids:  PEARCE, Danyle;  HANNEBERY, Daniel ; STANTON, Brent (186); McVEIGH, Jarrad
Ruck: HUDSON, Ben (66)
Forwards: STAKER, Brent (114); BROWN, Johnathan;  MAYNE, Chris; HILL, Josh
Utilities: BELLCHAMBERS, Tom (64);   BROADBENT, Matthew (77)
Emergencies: MOORE, Andrew (40); TUOHY, Zach (70) ; RAMPE, Dane
650/7

Just a clarification am I correct with Tuohy replacing Gillham and then do I get half points with Moore replacing Brown as neither Bellchambers or Broadbent are  defenders or forwards, Based on your score I think you have already allocatted 20 for Brown.

Wow, absolutely shocking round for the Wolves, whatever slim hopes we had of top 4 are gone now...McGrath and Hall were great selections :P

Only 1 ton and that's 103 from the captain...could be on track for the lowest ever Toronto score if JRoo and Johnson have quiet ones.

But congrats on the win Purps, you really deserve it. A case of one team wanting it more than the other! Your boys a lot harder at the ball, and perhaps the most underrated captain in the league in Steven smashing his opponent one of the top players in the league in Pendles just sums it up.

Pumas Progress

Hartlett 88, Roberton 26, Harwood 81, Houli
Ablett (C) 356, Sloane, Masten, Duncan
Minson 83
Walker 109, Roughead 69, Gunston 82, Porplyzia
Jacobs, Hill

Total - 894/8

Apart from Ablett yesterday was a very disappointing day for the Pumas with pretty much everyone underperforming, also didn't help that Roberton got concussed... Can't believe the Tigers are still in this! :o

I only play XVs these days, instead of SC/DT.

Prediction: Really 11 plaers, not 9, for Buenos Aires but they are still a chance of winning. Can Seoul recover? I'll back Buenos Aires

Deledio - 63, Duffield - 52, Ellis - 77
Seoul - 730 - 5 to come

Barlow - 108
Armadillos - 988 - 3 to come

Up the Dillos

To be fair you could say we're "lucky" to score 116 and win Holz

But I'd say we're unlucky to have 3 of our best players suspended. We scored that 116 with only 13 players. If Kornes and Stevie J weren't suspended it'd be more like a 140.

You've had half a team for 4 weeks and won 3 times, and lost to the Suns (who were every chance of beating you anyway). I'm calling it really good luck Nails :P

So..... Dublin are suddenly amazing.

And PNL! 142 and still lose. Again.

Dublin Destroyers (24.16.160) defeated PNL Reindeers (21.16.142)

Best
Dublin: A Rance, J Selwood, J O'Meara, Jack Redden, R Gray, M Hurley
PNL: J Westhoff, C Wingard, M Lobbe, D Myers

Reserves
Belfast Braves (15.13.103) lost to Marseille Kings (19.9.123)

Best
Belfast: N van Berlo, J Lamb, J Green
Marseille: K Simpson, J Grant

You'd imagine we'd be quite pissed.... Another great score but come up against a Roaring Dublin :o :o.

The Cobras notch up there best score of the season! While Moscow's run of form is well and truly over.

Cape Town Cobras (23.15.153) defeated Moscow Spetsnaz (21.15.141)

Best
Cape Town: A Cooney, T Cotchin, JP Kennedy, C Sylvia, J Cameron
Moscow: R Griffen, D Martin

WXV Debut
Cape Town: J Hall

Reserves
Cape Town Cobras (19.10.124) defeated Siberian Wolverines (12.11.83)

Best
Cape Town: S Dwyer, E Curnow, N Haynes, L Dunn, J Gwilt
Siberia: J Thomas, S May, R Tambling, T Vickery
Dayum! Who saw that coming? Perhaps the Cobras perform better without a coach? :P

Absolutely chuffed after a terrible run of form. No doubting our top 8 position now.

Nails injury isn't an excuse when you have poor depth.
That is why your team is weak.
Sao Paulo have scored more than you and still have fantastic depth.

Suns not looking as unbeatable as they were at the start of the season. Sao Paulo (of course), Dillos, Moscow, Dublin and even the Wolves on occasion all putting up some excellent scores

Well gotta thank Ablett for getting me to 150. Only 3 players cracking the tonne is very disappointing and will be expecting better next week against what has turned out to be a massive danger game against Dublin! Loser could be eliminated from World Idol too!

Imagine this for a scenario... I beat Dublin next week (Dublin eliminated from Idol) and Mexico loses to New York. Then the final round would have so much at stake between maca and I. The winner would get the minor premiership and claim the World Idol! :o

Unless I smash out my next two wins and finish on top with a better percentage.

With our players to return from suspension and injury this week we should have a full team + emergencies. Dillos should be back from here on out.

Not a bad effort, ofc every flowering player for CT guns it. Can't we dock him 13 points for not submitting?

Play Darling and he scores 23, drop him and he scores 109, bring him back and he scores 41..if I ever try and play him again shoot me in the head.

We probably don't deserve to be in the top 4 right now, boys better win the next two weeks, and find some form while we're at it.

Anyway obviously you are the massive favourite for the match maca, but you haven't been in the best form the last month, with a top score of 147 in the last 4 rounds, whereas New York have pulled out a score of 166 during the same time. So anything can could happen...

Dillos are looking good for 2nd...

Just need 2 decent wins in our matches and Pumas to have 2 really tight wins

Or just win our 2 and Puma lose one of their two matches which has a decent chance of happening.
