A guy coming off a bad achillies injury....priced at 300K and is still not gaurenteed to be up and running at round 1....and even if he is has had no preseason and will more than likely be eased in with Longer doing a lot of the work
Seriously tempted to downgrade one of my 5, 600K mids and upgrade him to a set and forget ruck combo and bring Maloney into the mids at M5
Yeah makes sense.
Berger would need to play 2 encouraging trials for me to be confident going into rd1,
Will be watching NAB cup - Berger is aiming at playing Rounds 3 & 4 of the NAB cup so watch. If Longer is named for the first round thinking of selecting him as he will make cash and be a handy upgrade to finalise set and forget rucks.
Other alternative I am considering is looking at Zac Smith for 70k more who may be over 2nd year syndrome and will play all games.

Thankx Ringo, i wasn't sure he would get to much of a run before round 1 so will be keeping an eye out thats for sure, he would want to be performing fairly well though for me i think, if he was $200K i'd be happier for him to warm into the season but if he's going to start with 50's and 60's with Longer doing a lot of work to ease him in then i dunno if im to keen on that for his price when Maloney for 50K more looks more likely to push 90's and 100's straight out of the gate
Haven't really thought about it too much. Put him in from the start and left him there. There is no garauntee however that he will return to his form from the 2nd half of 2011 so there is reason to have doubt over him
@ $300K Berger is well worth the risk if he is playing.
Defintley worth selecting Berger, if fit.
Showed in 2011 he can be a premium scorer and I'd expect him to score well this year even though he's coming of a achillies injury.
Anyone think he can become a keeper or is he simply a stepping stone to a premium ruckman?

I was thinking of using him as a stepping stone to Nic Nat but if he averages ok then I may just keep him.

Exactly what I had planned but at what point does he become worth just keeping?
I'm not sold on berger just yet. I have him in as my R2 at the moment, but I will need to see him play before I name him. Got $230k in the bank currently and may use it to upgrade if berger doesnt look the goods.
I am sold on Moloney though. He looked very fit and ready to go, and got a lot of the ball, so he is locked in my mids.

That is something we really won't know until the season has started you'll have all the usual factors like injuries to consider.

Yeah of course, I think its just gonna be a hard call to make if he is averaging say 105 do you bother sideways trading to another prem ruckman. I guess its one you can hold off on until later in the year if he is playing well

If he's averaging 105 i'd say the only reason to side trade him is in the finals as a luxury

Yeah this ^^^^^
realistically though if he could average 90 coming off this long lay-off with injury and made ~150K then you'd be pretty happy
Yeah i tend to agree Col, although when someone like Nicnat is averaging 10 ppg more it is going to hurt not doing the swap earlier

90 would frustrate me I think. Would never make big money off him and would have to make an awkward trade to get someone else in
yeah for sure i wouldn't consider a 90Avg a keeper, you would definately swap him out when he peaks, i just don't think he will deliver much more than that, and that's if he can stay on the park long enough
The money saved will be really helpful elsewhere if he gets games and scores 90's.
That is all I want from him. He will peak just at the right time and Bang - upgrade.
If he is rested, Cox DPP for R1 that round.
Should work.

Yep, that's the plan :)
Agree with the above can be a keeper but if he's struggling will be easy to jump to Nik Nat, problem is West Coast play 7 days before Brisbane, so with that DPP strategy your gunna have to play a forward rookie insted of burger regardless if he plays Round1 or not.
Forgive me if im wrong, but my undersatinding of sc rules this year is that you'll be able to tinker with this up until the brisbane game starts. So would you still select him if he'd not named for the game? If you decied on set and forget at the last minute you'll have cox stuck as a ruck R1.
Personally will prob go something like leave cox forward, Jacobs R1, Luey R2 if named (hopefully), else Goldy R2 with downgrade somewhere else. Anyway if he turns it on in the NAB it all academic
Decided to cut away the berger. Last year I went from mumford to leuy to sandi to maric. All i want is the least amount of risk in my rucks.
Taking Maric and McEvoy. set and forget. If they rest one due to soreness I will have cox and nait in future to swap with rowe.
I think he will end up with an average close to 90 with a lower average maybe around 70-80 for the first half when he's easing back into it but really hitting his straps towards the end of the season if he stays injury free which might turn an average of 90 into a keeper.
im not spending that extra money when there is the chance big leuy could outscore other ruckman. excluding big cox
For the price although a little high, what are the other options really? Spend 200k on an underperforming premo or save 150-200k and take a promising rook
Really we just need to lock the Berger it seems the easiest and more riskyless option
Can you afford to take Leuey without the DPP backup ? I think not. Can't think of any feasible sideway trade options that can produce a reasonable score or manufacture any currency. For me at the moment it's Ryder and Mumford with Cox up forward.
Well if Paddy Ryder is fit he is worth a forward spot imo, Cox either, JJ :o Jenkins wil surprise many!
I don't personally think the R/F conection is overly worth it but if Ryder is fit then he's a huge get, but I believe he's currently not fit? ???

Yeah its doing my head in since 211 went down. I moved cox into the rucks but with no dpp cover for the burger its risky!

Agree with Jenkins being a possible solution too along with the other cheaper rucks in martin or smith
Damn you Sandi for scewing up my team >:(
At least we have a few more weeks to sort it out :)
The FF at Adelaide plus ruck reliever, can score very well, set to boom :o only played 11 games :o
Almost a bit unfair he's copping the price tage as he has played 11 games, but when have VS been fair ???
Keep an eye on JJ for the next two games! If he has goo numbers in both then GET ON!!!

I don't think there is a more blindly, one sided opinion in footy than yours tbag, ;) JJ is in my opinion a great selection, last year... About 15 rucks would need to go down injured before he is considered for 2013.
