Title: Michael Barlow
Post by: dcmagadia21 on February 23, 2010, 07:50:42 AM
Barlow was pretty good at their NAB cup match with Melbourne. But is he worth it on the regular season and on the long run?
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: BGK on February 23, 2010, 08:28:16 AM
I think so. he is a good chance to be upgaded to the senior list. Freo could use a player like him through the season.

Barlow still needs to be elevated from the Rookie list and then make the 22.
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: snozza on February 23, 2010, 11:14:37 AM
With 2 or 3 spots available to upgrade rookies at Freo it is basically a race between Barlow, Clancee Pearce, Matt DeBoer, Alex Silvagni and Jay VanBerlo. Given Barlows experience playing in the VFL and his performance on Sunday, he would be a frontrunner for one spot. The dockers need an extra key defender so Silvagni would be pencilled in for another leaving the last spot for either Pearce or DeBoer.
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: valkorum on February 23, 2010, 11:25:16 AM
Currently only 2 spots available unless Dodd or Ruffles gets put on the LTI, then we can upgrade 1 more during that period.

McPharlin/Taz are the key backs at Freo with Grover taking 3rd tall, leaving Broughton/Duffman/Hayden to fill back pocket/half back roles.

I can see Dodd getting put on LTI and then Silvagni being promoted as the replacement, but I dont see how Silvagni will be elevated permanently this year.

I think the pecking order is:

DeBoer/Barlow, Pearce/Silvagni (depending on team needs), Van Berlo, the rest :P
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: snozza on February 23, 2010, 11:35:13 AM
ruffles did his knee in round 17 last year so he will almost definately be out till 17 this year. 3 spots available, Barlow will almost certainly get one spot and the other 2 are genuinely up for grabs amoungst the other 4.
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: valkorum on March 16, 2010, 12:52:31 PM
Just saw on the news hear in the west (channel 7) that Barlow has been elevated and that DeBoer is injured and could be unavailable for about 4 weeks I think this has a chance to ruin his chance at being elevated, and leaves the door open for Silvagni, Pearce or Van Berlo to elevated on to the list.

Although I cannot find any online source's to support what I just saw

Can any of my West Aussie compatriots confirm what I saw on the news.

Will sullivan (or something like that) Ruck elevated to the Eagles senior squad.  I think they are worried about Cox breaking down.

Who cares what the footy show team list says. No one would know except those who select the teams at each club at this point in time. Its all just educated guesses from the footy show. And we all know how educated those blokes are...

It is one thing to predict, but if you are going to call facts you need to get them right and source it. Do you realize how many footy fans come to this forum thinking it is Gospel. To people who have not had much experience in DT or SC look for ways to find out the ins and outs. If it is fact =  back it up ..its it is not call it a hunch, prediction or what ever you want. Do not piss in peoples pockets on heresay.

I saw it with my own 2 eyes on the footy show last night - Barlow was nowhere to be seen in the squad they showed.

I couldnt believe it and will only believe it when I see it on the team squad list this afternoon.

Edit: oh, and Bastinac wasnt on the North Melbourne squad list either.

Title: Re: Michael Barlow

To be eligible for the award, a player must be under 21 on January 1 of that year, have played 10 or fewer senior games before the beginning of the season, and not have been suspended during the season.

only from wiki though so cant be 100%
Title: Re: Michael Barlow

Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: Cicjose on March 29, 2010, 03:21:29 PM
Barlow cannot win because he is too old. the conditions are that you have to be no older than 21 at the start of the corresponding season and played less than 10 games. So Barlow CANNOT be nominated or win. Ziebell will win round 1 nomination.

Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: chosch on March 30, 2010, 12:40:33 AM
dustin martin played what i would consider an expected DT round, he will score mid 60's, the occasional 70... but barlow, what a start he saw... obviously he won't score that much week in, week out... but whats everyone planning on doing with him?

its very early to say, but what are your guys preliminary thoughts on him after round 1? Are u hoping to keep him throughout the whole year? Trade him as soon as his price stops increasing (or even trade him after round 1 like i know some people will...)

Vote now, im interested to see what people will make of his bargain price and awesome debut score.
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: Justin Bieber on March 30, 2010, 12:47:38 AM
looks set to be the rich of the year.

but if he keeps scoring like that, he'll be one and only barlow ;D.

likely to have him as a keeper if he can continue to score like that on a fortnightly basis. if he starts to fade mid season, i'll upgrade him.
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: Master Q on March 30, 2010, 12:49:13 AM
Can't say now, but i will probably trade him out.
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: valkorum on March 30, 2010, 03:33:27 AM
Gotta love how people predict the future after 1 round.  Yes I have a huge mancrush on him, but he is in the team as a cash cow.

If he manages to average the same as a midfield gun after 8 - 10 round then I will re-assess the situation but he was picked to be upgraded when he has made a lot of cash.
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: valkorum on March 30, 2010, 03:34:12 AM
Odds $1.01/$1.00 :)
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: chosch on March 30, 2010, 04:25:33 AM
u HAVE to predict the future... what's the point of playing the game if you're not predicting the future... i think he'll score consistent 80's with some decent larger scores as seen this round... depending on how much he goes up, i'll consider trading him... but i wouldn't be surprised if i kept him throughout the entire season. however, if someone drops in price while he's plateued... i'll definately consider trading up.

i said this once already Barlow CANNOT WIN the rising star you have to had played less than 10 games and be under the age of 21 on the 1st January 2010.

Barlow is NOT eligible to win the rising star because he is 22. Ziebell will be nominated for round 1.

Less than a quarter of fantasy players go to websites like this (ie, 75% of punters have no idea!)

The bottom line challenge for all members here should be to get into the top 25% and stay there.

A lot of the 'hype' is in fantasy football, won't get as much attention on just regular AFL forums even though he HAS come in to the league very well.

my league has a kind of relegation system going and we booted 3 bunnies at the end of last system with the aim to get our leaugue as high as possible in the ratings. one of my good friends was included in the 3 new coaches after assuring me he got into the swing of things at the end of last season (his first). i made him promise he would be dedicated and do the research.
he scored 1500 (brought our league down to #850) and has 6 rookies not playing and NO BARLOW. when i asked him why no barlow he said he's never heard of him.
in saying that you shouldn't had to have looked at FF or DTT to know who he is. anybody who followed the NAB cup at all should have seen the signs.
Title: Re: Michael Barlow

how do you guys reckon barlow will fair against the catters... do you reckon ling will nab him purely coz of his disposal count... i havent watched him play thus far, so i cant comment on his efficiency and accuracy and whether or not he adds that much to the team to the point in which geelongs famed tagger puts the rookie out of the game...

expectations??? vote, and leave a comment on what you're expecting/realistically hoping barlow will score this week.

personally i think we can expect the 80's, but its hard to say since we havent really seen him be tagged nor play a huge opposition (mind you, i've forgotten who played who in the nab cup)
Title: Re: Michael Barlow

wouldn't expect him to pull out another 120+ game. he is a rookie and compared to other rookies, 70+ should be a good target for him. never expect a rookie to carry your team :o

Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: MissPiesFF on April 17, 2010, 03:11:30 AM
He is named in Saints vs Freo game on Sunday. However he did come up a little sore after last weeks game vs Geelong ..hence his low scoring game. He was good at training, not great but decent and is ok to go.

As for his score for DT I am not including him this week but instead choosing Jetta over him. This is not because he did not get a great score last week but because I feel Jetta is getting into the rhythm of playing with the big boys ie: Adam Goodes.

But yes he is not 100% going into the game. You can go to the Freo site from the AFL site and get glimpses on vid of training sessions and also written assessments.

As for his injury this is true. But he will be heavily taped and I do believe he will be fine as he is a senior rookie. He has played under this kind of stress on the body before and came up trumps.

Hope this helps

Scaddict i have been hearing rumors all day about barlow in doubt, the whole point of fanfooty is to dicsuss everything that is important to our fantasy teams and he is a popular player. If someone got some sort of information that turned out to be true, but didnt post it because you lot rip the crap out of them, I would be pissed.
Exactly right Kai thats why you are in the FF Dream Factory, good luck this week  :)

i used my mpp to put pav in the middle for rohan :(

don't know what i was thinking

if i kept rohan in the middle as bench cover for barlow then i would have won a close game against team on top of my league.

(If scores are right i would have lost 2074 - 2097)
Title: Re: Michael Barlow
Post by: glam77 on May 31, 2010, 02:09:48 PM
even though i had barlow, the fact that he was missing won me my match.

i had barlow, but howlett as emergency
my opponent had barlow, but mcveigh as emergency

so, by end of normal time I was behind by 2 point, but bring in the emergency scores and i scraped home by about 10 points.

nail biting end to the weekend considering i had to catch up 250 points in the final game (i had 3 players to go, opponent had 1)

He should be kept. HE is gods gift to DT'ers. He is a solid player. Getting him next year will be out of the question. Look at Rich. He will be more expensive than guys like Corey, Boyd and possibly others. Won't be worth the risk.

41 at qtr time he is really set for a big one now. Also planty others on track for tons, Sandi, Roberton, Morabito, Grover, Palmer, Duffield, Broadbent, P.Stewart, Logan, Rodan, Carlile, Westhoff.

Im hoping Pav can pick it up and whip out a big score also.

Pav picked up Duffman doing ok, Palmer doing great, Mundy on track for a ton along with Sandi, Broadbent and P.Stewart keeping it up and Banner just came from nowhere

The only way he can win the brownlow now is if he was BOG in ALL of Fremantle's matches

u gotta feel for him. what a story, this only adds a harmful twist to it!
broken legs are absolutely horrible
still remember nathan browns one, was in career best form that year and just never came back, hope barlow can overcome that
palmer=sh!t bloke, will now hate him forever!!

the decision of barlow to who? is now gonna be the turning point for all coaches, especially as many of them sitting on 4-6 trades (ie. myself)
boyd, GAJ, swan, joey, judd, hayes, NDS

Very sad to hear for the guy. Nobody wants to see a young player go down. Especially being ruled out for finals. He was a pretty big factor getting them into the finals so very sad :'(.

My trade is tough. Could go Barlow to Ablett or Look elsewhere.....

very unfortunate to see him go down like that. legs shouldn't supposed to bend like that. it looked very, very serious. he is a young emerging player who really made an impact for his club and the whole AFL. i wish him a speedy recovery.  :)

on a lighter and more happy note, who should i trade him to?

ablett, boyd, pendlebury, priddis??

So many posts about how sad it is, and I agree. It is absolutely shattering for him and the whole club, and I feel for poor Palmer now, it was just an instinct reaction and now he is getting all sorts of abuse and hate from everyone now. I suppose I can say that I know how he feels although I really can't, I did break my arm just before finals in the team that I pretty much carried to the finals but that can not compare to this horror. I don't even have him (don't ask) but I was just shattered when I heard the news. But in saying this, some people are now saying that Fremantles season is over and they can't win from here but I see it as a time to step up and really show that they don't need Barlow to win, and it is time for someone else to assert their dominance.

Gablett, Montagna or Hayes for the Barlow? Take into consideration who will be rested, how injury prone the player is, current form, run home, who they play in finals etc.

If you were wondering already have Stanton, Ball, Bartel, Selwood, Swanny and Chappy (forward).

He's been that good this year we should get 2 trades for him, as if he'd been drafted to GWS and Freo were to get 2 picks for him ;)

I have Joey, Hayes, Swan, Bartel and Vince. The way Vince is playing I almost want to do a double. Barlow - Ablett then Vince - Boyd. I think I've probably got the cash for it too.  :D

ok i know this subject has been covered many times, but they all dont really have a solid answer, so seeing as most people already have Goddard, Chapman and Hodge, whats everyones opinion on these 5 players -- Montagna, Boyd, Ablett, Corey and Dal Santo. Who is the best value for money and who can you rely on to give Barlow-like numbers that everyone craves! Cheers

I've got Goddard and Hodge, but not Chapman...I am dead set on getting Boyd, Chapman can be traded into the forward line.

All 5 of those players are great to get.  My order of preference is:

GAJ
Joey
Boyd
Corey
NDS

the only worry about the top 2, joey and ablett is if they miss games.. my thoughts are that if you have boyd who wont miss games in your team and these ppl that all have ablett and joey who are most in most leagues will suffer when they miss that round in finals that will kil you??

alright .. my question is .. who to trade for barlow .. if u already have
Goddard, Hodge,
Gaj, Bartel, Joey, Swan, Boyd ..
Chapman .. ROK ....

I dont have corey -- if i get him .. too many cats players which i wouldnt like ..
Hayes -- would be rested sometime soon ..
NDS .. hmmmm .. proably rested .. wuld have 4 saints as well not a big fan either ..

i already have the top 6 midfielders.. i can only do worse than barlow now .. which i dont like :-(

where does judd sit on this radar. need to look at teams who are still fighting for there spots. dogs, blues, hawks(mitchell), crows, swans, maybe north. collingwood will fight for top spot till the end(pend). they are less likely to rest than saint and geelong. imo

agreed with superstar.. im avoiding the likes of montagna and GAJ.. looking at boyd as the dogs will be fighting for top 4 position

as an interesting side note I've been wondering who will make up the possesions in the midfield for the dockers. I noticed that when Barlow missed Ballantyne got 90+ (a rare feat!) he's got a great tank and may see more midfield rotation. I was about to upgrade to Buddy but will instead be watching the dockers to see if he gets a go.
