Title: Sportal Team Help Thread
Post by: stew42 on February 13, 2013, 08:54:31 PM
As there's one for Sportsbet, thought there should be one for Sportal.

Here's the scoring system:
Kick   3 Points
Handball   1 Point
Contested Possession    4 Points
Uncontested Possession    2 Points
Tackle   3 Points
Hitout   1 Point
Clanger    -5 Points
Goal            6 Points
Behind   1 Point

So it's a bit more like Supercoach, in that disposal efficiency, and contested possessions is important.

Here's my team:

DEFS: Goddard, Grimes, Gibbs, Heppell, Pittard, Brown (Docherty, Terlich)
MIDS: Pendles, Kennedy, Murphy, Jack, Embley, Wines, O'Meara, Viney (Crouch, Mitchell)
RUCKS: Kreuzer (yes, I've been roped in!), Leuy (Gorringe, Witts)
FWDS: Rockliff, Stevie J, Tex Walker, Siposs, Byrnes, Staker (Mayes, Macaffer)
$9,600 remaining

Good luck, everyone!

It's like impossible to have deent rookies + more than 12 premiums. Swan take up over 8% of the salary cap in this game, which is more than SB and SC. 6.8 and 7.5%

I've gone for seven midfield premos this year, because I found it was hard to trade them in last year. I'm not sure whether this is the way to go, but I'll take the risk.

Suffice to say, the rest of my team looks pretty dodgy.

l'm finding it harder to put together a decent team here than in DT, SC or Spoertsbet

Agree Nostra - Thought it was just me and being a newbie but I too am finding it a little difficult to come up with what I consider a decent team for this scoring system.

It does seem harder than last season last year I pretty much threw a team together last minute

I may have to drop a premo mid :( even tho I really don`t want to so I can have another premo in my forwards.

With Sportal i find i have picked players that i wouldn't in DT & SC.
The player with top efficiency that gets his own ball is gold.
But also doesn't give away alot of frees and fifties.
The -5 is a killer.

But just think how challenging it will be compared to DT this year.
We are really going to have to think about upgrades and downgrades
I reckon it will be great.

Got a side i'm pleased with. No Swan or Ablett, and I tried desperately not to have to start any Fwd rookies.

Defenders. Split: (3-5)
Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes
Pittard, B.Goodes, Terlich, Docherty, Colquhoun

Mids. Split (5-5)
Pendlebury, Cotchin, M.Murphy, Griffen, Stanton
Wines, O'Maera, Viney, K.Mitchell, Crouch

Rucks. Split (0-2-2)
Leuenberger, Jenkins
Witts, Daw

Fwds. Split (1-5-2)
Rockliff
Cloke, Walker, Schulz, Siposs, Blease
McCaffer, Neade

$40'700

The top half looks quite steady but the bottom 2 are very shaky and could burn my whole season ;D

Rucks are very weak,, also bergers may not even play first few game, so you better have a back up plan if he doesnt.

Zac Smith or Matthew Lobbe would be who i turn to.
Title: Re: Sportal Team Help Thread

Got a similar type structure

Def: Goddard. Gibbs, H Shaw,
Goodes, Docherty, Stevenson, Terlich, Van Nunen

Mids: Swan, Ablet, Cotchin, J Kennedy, J Selwood
         B Moloney, Wines, K Mitchell, O'Meara, Viney

Rucks: Berger, Hickey, Gorringe, Rowe

Fwds: Rockliff Cox
Varcoe, JJ Kennedy, McAffer, Kerridge, Lee. Staker

Gone strong in mids as that is where bulk of points are scored based on stats.

Will probably be tweaked by downgrading Moloney if Hickey does not play - Rucks weak I know but I suspect Gorringe to play most games for coast as well.

Gee it is hard with a $8m cap very testing

Perhaps with your ruck set up maybe Vardy or Pedo could be options mate.

Put a line through Lewis Stevenson, not sure why people think he'll get many games tbh. :-\ Not much else that is highly questionable, nice team. :)

Also, I'm surprised that noone mentioned the addition of Sam Blease in my side. Have you all given up on trying to make me pick someone else? :P

Good team overall, but why do you go without Swan or GAJ for captaincy? Those guys were way ahead of everyone else last year.

I'm thinking about whether or not to get Siposs myself. With Goddard and Gram gone, I've been considering Siposs and Geary, though I haven't settled on either yet.
Title: Re: Sportal Team Help Thread

the only reason i don`t have them is their price and limited salary cap
I actually had both of them last year by the end but am struggling to fit either in atm Shuey could get boot yet.
but I am considering Jenkins now but will hold on him until Walker and him play together in the same forward line

Me too, but now l've just gone with what l think are must haves in the mids. Then built around that with whats leftover

2 good backs, 2 good forwards, 1 good ruck and then alot of players who l think are under-priced, then the best rooks as well

I have managed to get both in atm but still can`t decide it I`ll keep both It all depends heavily on NAB cup performances on some of my cheapies.

I suppose for the captains score I'll just try to figure out which will fluctuate less at the start of the season and go with him. There's too many rooks on the field when they're both in and the mids look bare without them.

I`ve got mine setup like this atm

Backs: 3 premo 1 midpricer 2 rookies on field and 2 on bench
Mids:4 premos 1 mid pricer 3 rookies on field 2 on bench
Rucks:Cox Luey 2 rooks
Forwards:3 premos 1 mid pricer Byrnes,MacCaffer 2 bench rookies
But it may not stay this way

A note on Karnezis. He is priced a a very nice 170kish in this game, only 60k above the rookie. Where in DT (unsure on SC) he is 100k above the average rookie. Is it actually worth trading him out yet as his next 3 are GCS, NM, Melb? I'm thinking of keeping him through, as for the next couple of weeks he may not make alot of cash, but if he gets three 80-90s in a row after the GC game he'll have a big jump, and that might be the best time to move him on?

Just thinking as i have currently gone Watts --> Heath and Daw --> Dwyer (Rowe DPP). The other options being Karnezis --> (JJK or Dwyer) or Mitchell --> Viney (where i plan on going Mitchell --> Crouch next week anyway)

Just tossing a couple of things up in the air. :-\
