Post by: Babylove on January 11, 2013, 12:36:40 AM

Fwd: L. Franklin, D. Cox, T. Rockliff, D. Martin, J. Stringer, B. Staker (T. Lee, T. Membrey)

I appreciate the feedback, but I haven't really reviewed my team in relation to the changes you suggested yet.  As the title suggests this is a diary for the year which will show my teams evolution throughout the year.

Feedback is very important as especially this time of year it can be hard to keep touch with what is happenings throughout the league.  It is also very important to trust your gut on selections as well.  I will probably look at doing another review of my team just before NAB Cup, so any changes that I may make as a result of any feedback I receive will happen then.

Backs and forwards need work in my opinion.

I had a similar loaded midfield last year ... it didn't work because i missed out on some good midfield rookies ... i think 4 is the max + Embley/Ball type personally.

7 round 13 bye premiums just between your mids and backs ... but this is a problem we are all trying to deal with  :)

Overall not bad for an early team ...

i started 5 premo mids last season and finished 1,769th overall so it can work well

Define premium ... the ones in this team are all pretty bloody expensive ...  :)

Hence why it only has 3 premium backs ... the other three back rookies will all probably average around 50 ... that makes them hard to upgrade and hurts if you can't do it till later in the year due to injuries or other problems with your team ...

If you had say a Shuey/Mundy/Barlow/Gaff for example then it isn't quite as bad.

Anything can work ... but in reality the best rookies are in the midfield and you need to make money to upgrade every line .. and these rookies are the best way to do that.

GAJ, Pendles, Watson, Murphy, S. Thompson - were my starting 5 :)

Total cost a still a lot less .... Watson was not $647,200 last year ... neither was Thompson compared to this team that has Dangerfield at $636,000 ...

We also had a rookie ruck option last year (and the year before) that many people used to get an extra premium into their side ...

Strong team baby love.

You will need to have a trading plan in place to ensure that you do not have too many prems out in bye rounds. Currently you have 8 prems with this bye including all Def Prems and 4/5 mid prems.

Just personal but not a fan of the Goldberger combo although that is probably the combination for a majority of teams.

Babylove you have set a nice team would only suggest 2 changes

Def: Sound 3 Premium, 3 Cash cows on the field.
Mids: Solid can't fault any of these
Rucks this is where you should make the first change from Goldy to Jacobs
Fwds: The Change you should make here  is Le Cras to Varcoe otherwise a solid forward line.

Well balanced team on each line give it an 8/10

johnnytheboy, is Jacobs definitely better than McEvoy?

If so, then agree with your suggestion.

If not much difference, I'd go McEvoy due to round 13 - lots already missing and Rowe will be out so be careful.

Nice team though apart from the obvious round 13 glut of selections which are hard to avoid given the teams clustered there.

So I'm trialling a riskier Ruck strategy to put some more strength into my forward line.

Def: B. Goddard, H. Shaw, B. Gibbs, L. Brown, B. Goodes, L. Stevenson (S. Colqhoun, D. Turlich)

Mid: G. Ablett, S. Pendlebury, D. Beams, P. Dangerfield, T. Cotchin, O. Wines, K. Mitchell, B. Crouch, (J. O'Meara J. Viney)

Ruc: Z. Smith, J. Jenkins (S. Rowe, D. Currie)

Fwd: L. Franklin, D. Cox, T. Rockliff, D. Martin, P. Karnezis B. Macaffer, (T. Lee, J. Neade)

Cash Left: $50,000

I'm also thinking of downgrading Franklin to Wright or Robinson and upgrading Smith.

 Solid team Babylove -

Risky ruck strategy that may come off. With the Cox DPP though risk is minimised but you need to ensure that you always have a playing emergency.

Just need to watch the Round 13 byes as well as you have 3 prem defenders and 4 prem mids with this bye.

Do not think you will gain much by downgrading Franklin and upgrading Smith. Franklin will be in your team at end so why not leave in him from start.

I'm getting close I think.

Def: B. Goddard, H. Shaw, B. Gibbs, N. Vlastuin, B. Goodes, J. Pittard (L. Stevenson, D. Turlich)

Mid: G. Ablett, S. Pendlebury, D. Beams, P. Dangerfield, T. Cotchin, O. Wines, K. Mitchell, B. Crouch, (J. O'Meara J. Viney)

Ruc: T. Bellchambers, J. Jenkins (S. Rowe, D. Currie)

Fwd: D. Cox, T. Rockliff, D. Zorko D. Martin, P. Karnezis B. Macaffer, (T. Lee, S. Kerridge)

Cash Left: $6,300

Some notes:
* I'm quite happy with my back and mid lines with Gun and Rookie approach.  I know that 7 out of 8 starting premiums have the Round 13 bye, but my instincts are telling me that these are going to be among the elite in their respective lines and that the risk to Round 13 is worth it.
*I've found the ruck and forward line combo much harder as they both seem shallow in both premiums and rookies.  I'm still taking a risky approach to the rucks though Bellchambers is much less risk than Smith in terms of form and job security I think and downgrading Franklin to Zorko shouldn't loose much.  I also think that there shouldn't be much problem with playing the three lions as I'd expect to be upgrading Karnezis before the bye rounds anyway.

All feedback would be much appreciated.

Returning the favour.
Im a crows fan and you were questioning L.Brown,  he seems to be a very good chance of playing 22 games or close to it.  He should be replacing Doughty.  Wont score that great but will be a solid backup.
Kerridge little chance of playing rd 1 might play 5 games throughout the year if youre very lucky maybe 10.  Would ditch him for Neade who seems more likely for round 1.
Jenkins is replacing Tippett playing mainly fwd with 5 min a quater as a ruckman.  Id expect him to average in the 70s, if thats good enough for you to make money keep him, if not ditch.

Cant fault your def prems.  Although i really like Hartlett this year.
I really like your mids.  Beams a good unique, can see going as well as last year if not better.
Bellchambers good option
I really think you need Buddy.  Dont know where you can get the cash though

Consider Shaw-Hartlett and maybe downgrade Vlastuin to Brown to get Jenkins to somebody like Kreuzer

Defence: Solid, I like Heath Shaw this year as a POD, not too sure why there are not to may teams with him
Mids: Solid again, I am not sold on Beams because how will he perform with a full team back, I would look to him as a upgrade target and look at a Marc Murphy or Matty Priddis type player
Rucks: I do not like Big Bellchambers. I have no idea why people are picking him up. Look at another option in the rucks.
Forwards: Very sound

Rate: 8.5/10 I would definitely look at refining your rucks but apart from that its a very nice team :)

Nice solid team all round mate. Really like the pod you have in place with Heath shaw. Only concern I've got is Jenkins as a ruck position it sounds a little iffy. But overall team rating is 9/10 mate. Can you re-rate my team mate as I in process of making changes to side.

Def: Need another mid-priced there, risky having 5 out of 8 rookies. Also, haven't seen many teams with Shaw, better options than him IMO (hartlett, duffield), 7/10
Mid: Pretty good, nice mix of premiums and rookies, 9/10
Ruck: Jenkins isn't good enough for his price IMO, 8/10
For: Love it, really nice pick with martin, set to have a big year this year, just Macaffer at R6 might be risky,  9/10

Overall: Pretty good team, just strengthen up the defence, 33/40

Good Luck :)

Def: B. Goddard, H. Shaw, B. Gibbs, N. Vlastuin, B. Goodes, J. Pittard (L. Stevenson, D. Turlich)

Mid: G. Ablett, S. Pendlebury, D. Beams, P. Dangerfield, T. Cotchin, O. Wines, K. Mitchell, B. Crouch, (J. O'Meara J. Viney)

Ruc: I. Maric, M. Leuenberger (S. Rowe, M. Blivacs)

Fwd: D. Cox, T. Rockliff, D. Zorko, JJ. Kennedy, P. Karnezis B. Macaffer, (J. Neade, S. Kerridge)

I'm a little nervous about the Leuenberger & Kennedy selections, but I think my side is a little better balanced. Any suggestions?
