He's alomst a Super Coach lock but...

Remember Marc Murphy and his giant fall last year?

Who can prove to me Trent won't do an Rocky, Murphy type year after breakout

Mainly looking from a Dream Team perspective, thinking of cheaper Murphy, Fyfe, Danger, Mundy, Redden

Why should I take the Cotch?

I think there's factors that we can say caused Rocky and Murph to drop after breaking out, that will not affect Cotch (barring injury).

Why did Murphy's output drop?Murphy in his breakout year did not recieve tags from the opposition, who focussed on containing Judd, but in 2012, turned their attention to Murphy, which really did restrict his influence on the game, given he struggled with tags.

Why won't it affect Cotchin? Cotch was given the #1 tag multiple times in 2012 and proved that he can cope with them, so, much like teams have begun to do with Judd, they started tagging his right-hand man in Deledio, letting Cotchin run amok. I can't see his ability to break tags becoming any less efficient in 2013, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Why did Rockliff's output drop? Rocky was plonked up forwards this season given Brisbane's need for another option up forward, resulting in a drop in fantasy output.

Why won't it affect Cotchin? Dimma would be crazy to put Cotchin up forwards for extended periods of time in 2013. A gun midfielder, who's absence in the middle was one of the reasons we probably lost to GC in the end, will be even more valuable in the middle now he is captain. While he will still rest forwards, he has goal kicking ability to still put fantasy points on the board while resting, along with other targets in Jroo and Vickery ensuring that Cotchin is not manned up by one of the opposition's defenders.

Basically, I see why you're asking Tbag, but personally I feel as though the circumstances around Rocky and Murphy's fall from grace was to do with circumstances that shouldn't affect Cotch! ;)

Murphys output dropped because of injury.... pre injury he was averaging 109.

... but averaged 72 (if you double his half-game injured score) in rounds 6, 7 and 8. Yes injury had an affect on his scoring, but the tags obviously did as well.

Every time he was tagged (according to monty (http://www.fanfooty.com.au/players/year.php?firstname=Marc&surname=Murphy&year=2012)), he scored sub-100.

Sorry Toga that's incorrect. The lock just shows he was tagged effectively. If you hover over the icons you will find he was tagged in these games...

Team - DT/SC
Brisbane - 115/147
Essendon - 114/120
GWS - 94/89
St Kilda - 68/73
Western Bulldogs - 85/108
Richmond - 113/160
Brisbane - 99/117
Gold Coast - 92/98
St Kilda - 76/78

Average - 95.1/110

So even in the games he was tagged he still average a very healthy 110 in SC!

Oops sorry my bad! Thanks for pointing that out!

Even so, 95 still shows that's he is held well by a tag ad I would want more from a premium mid!

Yeah the 95 is bad, but I don't really focus on DT at all. If I had a player who averaged 110 in SC whilst being tagged I would be very happy :)

Haha ok well I'm a DT'er and tbag's question was more concerned with DT (i think!) so that's why our opinions differ! :P
