Thoughts
Taken by Port Adelaide with the seventh selection in this year’s draft, Wines is a strong bodied midfielder, he racks up plenty of the ball, averaging 24.2 touches for Vic Country, he also has a hard edge to his game, and he thrives on winning contested ball and stoppages. Already standing at a mature-age stature of 187cm, a modern day midfield height which also allows him to be strong overhead, and 89kg he is ready to step into AFL action. His stats in the U18 Championship were very impressive. He played four matches and averaged 24.2 disposals, 53% contested, 5.25 tackles, with a great performance against Queensland where he gathered 31 touches, 17 contested, five clearances and seven inside 50’s. That’s SC gold in any language. He will step into Port Adelaide’s midfield immediately, adding some much needed class and grunt to their engine room. Wines has all the attributes that will allow him to play AFL from round one, with his great build and endurance combining with his natural football talent, making him very appealing.
Verdict
Just about lock this boy in, it’s now hugely important to find players like Wines with the new midfield structure for 2013. He is ready for AFL, will play the majority of games and will have an impact once he gets used to AFL tempo. He is a bit more expensive being a first round pick, but its money well spent, with many sides having 2-3 cheap youngsters filling up the extra midfield positions. Wines is one to lock in.
Prediction
75
Absolute lock
Most AFL ready player coming out of the draft lands at Port.
Just might be perfect.

I have him atm but port done have a good run of giving first year players round one start or more then 12games. plus none have devolved in the last two years

Very different looking coaching staff now though.
:)
My favourite player from the draft. An absolute lock!
Locking him in
Locked in.
Close to locked in for me. Should have great JS and scoring potential
Lets hope he doesnt become the Wingard of last year. That could become frustrating. Although he is bigger bodied which could help his case.
