Title: Mr.Craig's 2012 Draft Predictor
Post by: Mr.Craig on October 26, 2012, 08:50:01 PM
Okay, so here's my shot at predicting this year's draft order (at least the first three rounds). To be honest, aside from the father/sons I'd be happy to get a dozen of these picks spot on but hopefully I've ballparked most of them. There's a few controversial selections so this might generate a bit of debate. Some of the heights and weights might be a little out, after all they are growing boys. Enjoy. :)

I won't do a writeup on each player, most of them have already been covered in my rookie thread...

Oh yeah, the Spangher deal. I forgot to look into that.

What was pick 47 a part of?

Edit - Ah, TDL. Missed that one too.

Nice work!
Would love Wines to Richmond at 9 but I am not confident of it happening

Great thread mate, similar to mine... I guess good minds think alike  ;)

Wines will go at 4 IMO. Mark Neeld clearly wants tough midfielders - hence why Gysberts and Morton are gone - and even though Moloney is gone, Viney has come in and Rodan and Byrnes are hardened bodies that will help the midfielders and forwards

Ollie Wines is a ready-made AFL player who runs forward and kicks goals, loves to lay tackles, has a big rig but his endurance is elite. Best mates with Jack Viney so it will be hard to see Melbourne letting him slip.

will GWS really want so many more mids? i think they need some really good DPP players if it's B/F M/F or B/M ad some depth to the team

Kennedy at 20? I would think he wouldn't go outside 15.  :P

Love the work Mr Craig, good effort.

Really hoping Jake Stringer, Brodie Grundy or Oli Wines slip down to Richmond at pick 9, don't think its too likely though :P

Ollie Wines is a beast of a kid and will have to go top 5. He is ready for R1. Its whoever feels they need to add a developing ruck to their list that will determine how high Grundy goes. I aslo note that no recycled players get another chance in this predictor? And ill throw it up for debate, if Tippett evters the draft, what pick and what club?? ;)

Bulldogs, Carlton or Richmond would take him don't think GWS need him

With Adelaide no longer in the draft, that must change things up a little. They probably would have taken Kennedy, who takes him now?

Also, from what I've seen and heard, there's no way Ollie Wines will slip to the Tigers at 9. I still think we'll go for Stringer or Menzel if they're still available.

Pies have pick 39 and North have 42 and 48.

I reckon Tim Membrey would be a good fit at the pies, not sure who those other mids are.

...Yes. :)

And because we have 2 other big forwards and have too many small forwards (krak, elliot, blair even) but do not have that 3rd awkward height big man (goldsacks not really a forward :/) and at 188cm, Membrey calls out to us :) And his tattoos

As a WCE supporter I don't think we should bother turning up :P I hope players go to clubs where their fantasy potential will be maximised ;D

FFS! I was struggling to keep up with everything that happened yesterday. Fixed now. ;)

As for the folks who think Ollie should go higher, I'm with ya. But I have a nagging feeling he might slip a little. We'll see.

fair enough, every chance he might - just depends on whether teams draft on the basis of needs or talent. i remember a ghost draft that one of the journo's did ages ago that had oli around where you had him, so you might be right!

Yeah, I just had a look at some of the phantom drafts over at BigFooty and they had him going at 4,4,7,8,9 and 9 so opinion is fairly split.

Any chance of him not getting picked up so that the Crows can take him in four years when our soon-to-be-announced draft restrictions get lifted? hahaha

Doubt they're going to be that harsh Tom considering it was only one player. Carlton lost draft picks for just 2 years for breaching the salary cap and that was with 4 players involved!

not in my draft, I reckon Colquhoun is top 20

Graham won the medal for best player in the TAC Cup (Morrish Medal) and is a gun. He should go Top 25

Couldn't believe it when I opened up Inside Football this afternoon and saw that they'd predicted the exact same 24 players going in the first round as I did. The order was a little different but still, not a bad effort on my behalf (or maybe they copied me? :P).

Has anyone been watching the countdown videos they are showing on the afl website? I swear at least half the footage in every video is of the playing destroying the Tassie team!!
