Post by: Spinking on October 21, 2012, 06:18:10 PM
Rookie Draft

The Rookie Draft will commence on December 12th at 8am.

There will be 3 rounds of regular selections, followed by as many additional rounds as are necessary to replace players lost to retirement or delisting. These picks will continue to be taken in the same snaked order as the rookie draft until each team meets its required size of 46.

The 3 rounds of regular selections may be traded to other clubs, however the additional round selections may not.

Isn't the rookie draft the same order as the national?
Title: Re: British 15s - Rookie Draft
Post by: Spinking on October 21, 2012, 09:42:01 PM
There was nothing specified about the order in any of the rule threads. I wanted to get something up, because we all need clarity about the draft process, but wasn't sure which was the best option. I asked around a bit before making the call but I am happy to open it up to comment, and maybe a vote.

The main justification was that in a normal year the drafts won't snake, and will start with the team finishing lowest on the ladder. With an initial year though we need to snake to keep it even. As the initial draft started one way, the nat went the other way and my thought was that it should reverse again to remain even.

We've got time, and can change it if people feel strongly that it should. Just felt it important to give you clarity where there was none. :)

I was under the impression that the initial draft had he bigger advantage of having pick 1, Gary ablett captain vs lance Franklin captain?? So it would ve fairer for the both lesser drafts to be reversed like Asians.
Title: Re: British 15s - Rookie Draft
Post by: Spinking on October 21, 2012, 09:48:38 PM
That's a fair comment. Anyone else feel that it would be more appropriate to be the same order as the Nat?
Title: Re: British 15s - Rookie Draft

Yep it should be the same order as the NAT.

I don't care. Wouldn't mind pick 1 though.  :-X
Title: Re: British 15s - Rookie Draft
Post by: Spite on October 22, 2012, 12:02:06 PM
I feel it should be the opposite of the national draft. This is due to the fact that the original draft was snaked to make it 'fair'

Gary ablett + pick 36 vs franklin and pick 19...you can't just say ablett vs franklin. It was snaked to be fair and now you are just changing it again? Makes little sense, especially since this rookie draft will seriously lack fire power.
Title: Re: British 15s - Rookie Draft
Post by: JBs-Hawks on October 22, 2012, 12:05:02 PM
Yea but there is no vice captain in this so it's Gary x2 +36 v Franklin x2 +19

And the Nat is also snaked.

Im with same as nat which it already was...... due to no VC score ablett is a big advantage captain over buddy the nat and rookie are meant to make up for that 8)

I get it...but ablett (170) x 2 + (heppell 110) = 450
Sloane (135) x 2 + Buddy (130) = 400

Then rookie draft pick 1 vs pick 18 to make up the 50 lost points...

I really don't care but I just wanted everyone to realise the maths behind it and for you to not think im crazy :P

With captains yes. So it only affects the first 2 rounds. Also the scoring system is higher than in DT so that 50 points is not as much as a big deal since rookies like whitfield should average anywhere between 80-120(toby greene!)

You said that the advantage of getting whitfield over players picked at 18/19 was affected by captains?

I did not know about the signing of Lower :)

Happy with that.

I presume these compensation picks will disappear if the player gets picked up.

Correct Fletch - Thought I would do it up much easier to take out a few than do the list at conclusion of draft.  Thinking ahead as well with Spinking unavailable.

Will update this list after the drafts next week.

MTTY/Spinking do either of you have a list of players not yet picked as I think we may struggle to get 118 AFL listed players for this draft.

NOTE: Dylan Roberton has since been picked up by the Saint Kilda Football Club as a delisted free agent. As a result his compensation has been removed from the rookie draft list. It has been noted on the list as 'NO LONGER REQUIRED.'

Good afternoon all - I am in the process of trying to sort out how many players we have available to pick from following the drafts today.  We may not have enough players to do 3 rounds so will have to make a decision when sorted as there were not a lot of additional players listed. Hopefully will get sorted out quickly to enable draft to proceed,

For everyone’s information. We had 71 players left over from the National Draft and I am working out how many have been added to see with compensation picks we have enough for 3 rounds plus compo picks or if we have to revert to 2 rounds plus compo picks.  Will take a little time though as I am only currently up to GWS. 3 players have been redrafted so far in Collins, Hudson and Steinberg which will assist.
Please be patient and i will advise when complete and need verification from coaches prior to starting draft.  AFL site being down and HS site having errors is causing concern Cadeyn Williams listed at GWS and Tigers as an example.

Excellent work there Ringo. If we have to have 45 players, then so be it. I don't think that extra player would really be an issue...

One player you have missed on the list there for picks no longer required is Michael Osborne. I believe he was re-drafted by the Hawks in the national draft :)

Can coaches please vote in the thread below about team sizes only 8 coaches voted to date Regardless Fletch will still have 1st pick so will accept the drafting. Round 1 of the draft is not effected so we will commence draft and hopefully when voting is complete we can then review next rounds,

http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,69954.0.html

Just keeping things transparent as we are changing original rules.  Need to have majority approve before going ahead even though Round 1 will not be effected,

No one told me... lol

I don't see why we needed to delay the draft, the issue at hand only affects picks after Round 2 of the Draft, and by then we'll have that issue sorted.

Anyhow, I see that decision being unanimous anyway. Can't see how anyone would be against it. So, I'll leave my pick as it is.

Sorry Fletch my mistake Michael Osbourne has been re drafted by Hawks so is not eligible for you.  Only recently discovered this in doing our double check.  Will be posting revised list now to allow draft to commence for Round 1 at least.

Apologies for error but it is hard trying to administer when you are trying to pull from a number of sources,

Think for the next 2 weeks we should be lenient about the 24 hour rule and allow people to enjoy the break and pick when able.  It is not as if we have a deadline to complete teams.  May delay the next trading period slightly but we still have plenty of time till season starts.

Just ensure that everyone PM;s the next person on the list after their pick.

nails can you let us know via PM or this thread if a [layer is still on a list.  We checked each other but is still possible to have missed one.

The rules are that you get compensation picks for any players delisted or retired not on an AFL List.  We went through the official delistings/retirements page on the AFL.

EDIT* Can we just pass our next selections? We are probably going to delist those who we pick up and our list is pretty much set where it is at.

I was waiting till end of this week to start re-inforcing the rules to give everyone a chance to enjoy the holiday period.  No real issues with the delay as it is just holding up next trading period and we have ages for that till start of NAB cup.  My thoughts are that at conclusion of Draft hopefully by 16th January then we have a 3 week trade period to finalise teams.
Open to suggestions but do not think we should be allowed to trade once NAB cup starts.

Good afternoon all - Trust all British coaches are fully rested and refreshed after the holiday period.

With the conclusion of the Holiday period it is time to enforce the 24 hr period to pick and the 2hr on line rule.  This step is necessary to ensure that we have a trade period prior to NAB Cup which starts on Feb 15th.  Aiming to have draft concluded by 18th January which will allow a three week trading period prior to start of the NAB Cup.

If you fail to pick in your allocated time you will be autopicked with the next highest player available.

I have listed all players that are still available in order of their drafting to an AFL Club for all existing players not picked.  Order for listing will be existing players, National Draft, Rookie Draft and Pre- signed rookies with the highest available taken as autopick. eg If Boomz does not take his pick his autopick would be Nathan Brown.

Think this is the fairest method to keep the draft moving and coming up with autopicks:

Current players available. I will keep this list updated with players in Red no Longer available.

2012 Listed Players not picked
Nathan J Brown   Collingwood
Ben Newton   Port Adelaide
Jacob Gilbee   Gold Coast
Thomas Curren   St Kilda
Jeremy McGovern   West Coast
Ryan Bathie   Geelong
Jackson  Ferguson   St Kilda
George Burbury   Geelong
Sam  Schultz   Greater Western Sydney

Josh Growden   Greater Western Sydney
Justin Clarke   Brisbane
Max Warren   North Melbourne
Shane Biggs   Sydney
Ben Darrou   Richmond
Andrew Boseley   Hawthorn
Haiden Sloithe   Freemantle
Cameron Shenton   St Kilda
Steven Verrier   Richmond
Alex Greenwood   Western Bulldogs
Simon Turnbridge   West Coast
Mark Blicavs   Geelong
Richard Newell   Brisbane
Hal Hunter   Essendon
Mark Austin   Western Bulldogs
Michael Hartley   Collingwood
Ben Dowdell   Adelaide

National Draft
Lewis Pierce   St Kilda
Sean Gregory   Essendon

Rookie Draft
Alex Howson   Freemantle
Adam Oxley   Collingwood
Dane Rampe   Sydney
Jack Frost    Collingwood
Tim Klaosen   Adelaide
Daniel Robinson   Sydney
Zac Williams   Greater Western Sydney

Presigned Rookies
Eric Wallace   North Melbourne

Boomz has until 7:00pm Monday 7th January to pick.

KB There is a G Simon listed as available for Richmond but have been unable to find him on any lists can you enlighten me so I can slot him in if necessary.

As per Nails post above thoughts on whether we should autopick or one of those listed coaches pick for him.

Draft Picks still to be taken
69. Huddersfield Hawks  -   JBS-Hawks
70. Swansea Breakers - Ringo
71. Grope Lane Giants Nails
72. Leeds Leeches  -  BB67th
73. Birmingham Bombers  - kilbluff1985
74. Liverpool Lobsters  - Monstrum
75. Nottingham Hoods   -  Fletch74
76. Leeds Leeches  -  BB67th
77. Grope Lane Giants - Nails
78. Huddersfield Hawks -  JBS-Hawks
79. Birmingham Bombers - kilbluff198
80. Hebden Bridge Hedgehogs - Elephants/Spite
81. Winchester Werewolves - Colliwobblers
82. Bilston Bunnies - Boomz
83. Hastings Hurricanes - MTTY
84. Nottingham Hoods -  Fletch74
85. Hastings Hurricanes  - MTTY
86. Winchester Werewolves - Colliwobblers
87. Newcastle Falcons - Sid
88. Leeds Leeches -  BB67th
89. Swindon Swaggers  - Hawka
80. Hebden Bridge Hedgehogs - Elephants/Spite

85. Hastings Hurricanes  - MTTY
86. Winchester Werewolves - Colliwobblers
87. Newcastle Falcons - Sid
88. Leeds Leeches -  BB67th
89. Swindon Swaggers  - Hawka

So we have 20 picks to complete in 11 days if possible.

Trust all is clear.

I had asked Zip to pick for Nails to maintain some form of independence and transperancy due to the fact I still have a team in British.  Could have autopicked but thought this was the appropriate course of action.  He gave the option of Zip, Phasir, Pb or myself to pick anyway. Eric Wallace will stand.

BB67th pick.

Elephants/Spite have till 3:48 (EST) to pick 24 hr rule.  If someone has Facebook or other for them perhaps now is the time to remind them.  If they do not pick by then their pick will be Thomas Curren (St Kilda)

Only problem i see with this Auto pick rule thingy is someone like ele has been away for quite a while (why you'd go to tassie for so long i wouldnt know haha) and would have no clue its in force, when he or Spite get a chance to come online and realise they've been forced to take Curren but other players are still available they'd want, what would happen then are they still stuck with Curren or can change it??

Basicaly I dont agree with adding this rule during the draft, can completely understand why it has happened but just a bit to unfair imo

the relaxation period was only going to happen for about 2 weeks or so if coaches know they are going to be away the should have an assistant that will be on to keep track of things or just assign someone they trust to take picks for them it's really not hard
Title: Re: British 15s - Rookie Draft

If majority of coaches agree I will scrap the autopick and just skip them.  They will then pick when next on line from all remaining available players.
Rules did not dictate what happened if not picked as we did not get this scenario so I used rules from other comps to keep draft moving.

Yeah I get that KB but I thought the rule was if your not online in 24hrs then your skipped and can take your pick when you return which is the rule we all know, but now you come online to see its changed and you've been given a player you may not want instead, doesnt seem right to me

talking from what ive seen in AXV and EXV unless you nominate to go on autopick its just you pick when you return, I guess it makes no difference to me so i'll shut up now haha but im not a fan of changing rules half way through things

yeah i guess but don't think it really matters at this stage of the drafting and the rule generally favors the coach if it happens early in a draft so i like the rule say they don't get back until after the draft wont be much to choose from

there are over 100 players left in the AXVs after the draft is basically finished.

I have 4 picks left in this draft and the list of players to pick from is surely incomplete.

I am hoping we can get a list of all the players available before my next 3 picks as this list is light on for talent and i need to pick 3 more

Getting a list of AFL listed players is not easy.  The AFL site lists for 2013 is incomplete as it does not contain most clubs rookie lists.

Will look at doing a complete cross check when able but at the moment we have to go with what I have been left with.  I have suspected that we are probably missing some 20/30 players when I was unable to come up with enough players for 3 rounds of Rookie draft plus compensation.

As I said above finding a have been unable to find a definitive list so have made the decision to run with what we have,

Colli - Due to a clerical error When i pasted there was a double up of picks from 60 - 89 giving the appearance of more picks.  You have not been skipped as you had picks 14, 22, 29, 53, and 81 in the draft which you have taken. You still have pick 86 to take. Full details of picks are maintained early in this thread on around page 2 or 3 depending on how your setup is.

I have bumped this master to enable people to verify picks for the draft as a result of a couple of queries.

Apologise for apparent tardiness but it is a little difficult coming in mid stream and continuing a thread.  I have made errors as well due to this so apologies

Colli btw BXV has 18 teams and AXV has 16 teams so that might explain why there are players left over in AXV but not BXV

ALL GOOD RINGO THIS IS WHAT CONFUSED ME - THINKING I HAD 4 PICKS AT THE END.

SEE BELOW IN BOLD - The list is doubled up of picks remaining I only just realised it as it went from being 4 like this to your new one of only one left (which is correct).

Only 4 left,  has been fun drafting!

Also want to say thanks to Ringo, BB and KB (If i missed anyone sorry) for putting in so much effort to keep this comp moving, is obviously tough for Ringo to come in as a new administrator and get an understanding of everything so quickly, think you've done an excellent job :)

First Rhys Cooyou was delisted now Ciaran Kilkenny doesnt want to play for the Hawks. Either way not good for the Steins

With the second last pick of the draft I will take Ben Dowdell.

Hawka pm'd

I will also get to work on those team lists now.

Also just checking - we are now going with 45 on the team lists instead of 46 correct?

As specified in this thread you can lodge any trades but I will not rule on trades until conclusion of rookie draft.  I will probably rule very quickly unless some require a bit more investigation.  Only opened yesterday for your information.

In looking through team lists I have found that whatlez already picked 'Tom Curren' with draft pick 65 and Colliwobblers has picked him again down at pick 86. Coli will need to pick again.

It is confusing there is a Tom Curran from North Melbourne who whatlez picked and Thomas Curren from St Kilda who Collie picked.  This why I will be double checking the spellings for tradings as per previous advice.

Also team lists will comprise 45 players (41 players and 4 rookies which coaches will need to notify)

Another problem I have just enoucountered. It appears Torpedo10 did not have a pick in the last round of the Rookie Draft and as a result he has 46 players on his team list instead of 45.

Can you PM me Torps list - Will double check against trades etc and if necessary request him to de-list a player,  Need to verify all movements first.  It is possible in the initial stages he may have received 3 players for 2 say causing the extra one, No one to blame just a monitoring issue.

PMs have been sent to both Torp and Ringo now with Torp's team list, so we should be able to work it all out from here.

Have just discovered what caused the extra players.  Basically when we reduced the Rookie Draft from 3 rounds to 2 rounds was unaware that Torp had traded his 3rd Round Rookie Draft pick as part of trade in trade period 1.  Effectively trading a pick he no longer has.  To rectify Torp will de-list a player from his list.

So many scenarios to consider as an Administrator.

Torp has removed Daniel Orvall from his list.  Daniel Orvall will be added to the list of players not picked for next years drafts.
Hawka still to pick to finalise draft and then i can post verdicts on trades.

Hawka has till 11:00am (EST) this morning to pick.  Giving him the courtesy till then.

If not picked by then he will select Jackson  Ferguson   St Kilda being the highest ranked player left in the draft.

So 11am has passed, so Hawka is given Jackson Ferguson by autopick. I will update his team list now and post all of them in the opening post in the team lists thread.
