Title: Player profiles : Danny Stanley <3
Post by: DT-SC on September 11, 2012, 07:40:05 PM
2011 average :  80.3 ppg
2011 games   :  21

2012 average :   92.5
2012 games   :  13
2012 tons      :   5 (101 -108)

He was locked into my side all preseason before succumbing to injury after averaging 88 in the second halve of 2011.

When he returned in r.8 he returned in style with 105 dt points. After that he scored:
87 - 92 - 101 - 103 - 101 - 82 - 85 - 66 - 108 - 82 - 82 - 108

As the Suns improve, so will he, one of my favourite players (obviously a GC fan)
He is very consistent and i predict that he will be a DEFENDER next year
Even if he is a forward he'll be a lock

My Prediction :  97 ppg

WIll look at him if he is a defender. :)

Would be a nice pickup, but he has done well this season, not sure if he'll be worth it with a price tag of around 400k? (idk, just a rough guess?).

Don't think he's eligible for a discount, and that average of 90 is very good. Still worth a look though. Great player and usually quite consistent.

Played a lot in defence the last 6 or so games...reckon he's a decent chance of being a DEF.

Any chance of DEF/FWD DPP? Maybe you could have two of these each in the forwards and backs. Could have DPP EVERYWHERE! But definitely on the shortlist.

He played a lot across half back...would lock him in with DPP.

One of not too many Suns that improved from last year.

Hopefully he will be a defender and fingers crossed DPP

A lot of GC players look good.

Bennell, Harbrow, Bock, Ablett, plus more.

Is it too many for a shower side? haha.

Very consistent, will give you 80-110 pretty much every week. Likely starter for me next year.

Danny Stanley set for more midfield time in 2013.

Seriously considering him as a POD down back. You know what you get with him, will pretty much give you 80-100 every week.

May have already been discussed but Broughton in affects Stanley how?

Stanley played fwd in 2011 back in 2012, now broughton is in where does stanley play, Bock will also be back early - mid season....

Liking the look of this player for my backline, but not sure how the Suns will use him, and how he will score with broughton and Bock in.

Thoughts?

DEF #3 and DEF #4 if I have one are doing my head in.

Stanley locked at D3 for me & won't move at all. I read somewhere hell be used through the mids which would do wonders for his scoring 8)

can't fit him in at the moment and it's frustrating me a lot! Currently got Goddard, Gibbs, Heppell and Hartlett as D1-4.

Can't find a spare 50k anywhere, unless I go Fyfe --> Ball, Hartlett --> Stanley & Wright --> Robinson/Zorko?

In that exact situation as well. Hartlett's early fixtures are too tempting so he's locked, as is Heppell at his price. Everyone has Gibbs so he's such a safe pick, leaves me considering going in with Stanley instead of Goddard. But that doesn't seem the risk, and Gold Coast have two tough fixtures first up: St. Kilda and Sydney. Makes Stanley an early upgrade target for me, but that will be tough to engineer also...

Bluey said Stanley will increase his midfield time this year, where as he said Broughts will play off half back with stints in the middle. Broughts highest averaged of 89ish was when he played showerloads of midfield at Freo. I can't see him pushing 90+ but happy to be proven wrong. Stanley should be a 5-10 points better DT player

Stanley has had a couple of years to establish himself at the Suns.Even though he has transgressed a bit, imo, with that extra mid time, will increase his ave this year.Worth the extra cash imo & if things don't start well there is always Scotland or Grimes to trade to.

Can someone fill me in on this....Stanley only played 13 games last year due to injury. Did he get injured in the NAB??? or was a pre season injury. cos if he can come out with barely a pre season and average 92, this year he could very well be worth the outlay if he could average almost 93 last year. with some midfield time and full pre season who knows what he could average this year.
Title: Re: Player profiles : Danny Stanley <3
Post by: Colliwobblers on February 28, 2013, 01:24:01 AM
not sure azza i think Whatlex is the guy to ask about GCS, but he played 2011 as a fwd went into defence in 2012 and smashed it.

My question is what does he do in 2013?  Bock will return to where? defence or fwd? that was in dispute last season also before he was injured.

Harbrow returns to defence and Broughton comes into defence. so yeah does stanley rotate between half back and midifeld , or fwd nad midfield.

which would be better in fantasy?

In the prospectus Freako says; "given he is defender this season, you should SERIOUSLY consider him"

Finished 3rd in the best and fairest last season playing only 13 games.

He and Garry are the only 2 players to featue in the top 5 of the B&F in both seasons.

He played all but one match last season after round 8,

ranked at the club;

#1 marks
#2 intercept possessions
#3 disposals
#3 effective kicks
#3 contested possessions
#3 hardball gets
#3 loose ball gets
#3 uncontested possessions
#3 handball recieves

one of only 5 general defenders in the AFL to rank both ELITE for contested possessions and uncontested possessions pre game.

He was the numbr 1 goal kicker for the Suns in 2011.

I personally want to see something to confirm his fitness in the NAB CUP and I also want to know where he is going to play and how this will effect his scoring 79 as a fwd in 2011 ( less ball for the suns playing fwd in 2011) 92 as a defender in 2012 (plenty of the ball playing in defence for GCS in 2012)

this said the suns will go forward and be better this season so who knows ?

Hey azza, Stanley's absence from the team at the start of last year was from SUSPENSION not injury iirc... Club imposed I think!

So think he still had a preseason, just wasn't able to play or something...

Imo this year he will go 95+ as elephants said, playing in the midfield and off of half back. Bock will come into the team and go back to that role in the fwd line (as I think the suns really need a prominent target up there), while Harbrow, Tom Murphy & Broughts all come to the back line. That being said I see Stanley playing throug the centre this year, possibly with a few stints off of half back, with broughts/brow also rotating through the mids and Murphy playing lockdown.

Get aboard the Stanley train! I'm on already!

This is from a while ago so could have changed but...

http://www.goldcoastfc.com.au/news/2013-01-10/mr-consistent-eyes-midfield-role

“I spoke to Bluey [McKenna] and the coaches at the end of last season and they said they’ll be looking at playing me more in the midfield and up forward.”

“Now that we’ve got a few more mature bodies down back, I’m looking forward to developing my game more around stoppages, and resting up forward where I’ll hopefully be able to kick a few goals as well.”

Title: Re: Player profiles : Danny Stanley <3
Post by: azza707 on February 28, 2013, 12:27:02 PM
I did a bit of reading and apparently Stanley had a back issue going into 2012. Read an article from september 2012 saying that he was pretty frustrated to be out, but had a few good games in the twos and got back into the side pretty quick. If this is indeed true, which is most likely so, then that is a massive effort by him to come out and average almost 93 when he was very much underdone. who knows what he is capable of with a full pre season.

Also, tbh i dont really think it matters what position he plays. There has been plenty of talk and the articles to back it up that he will be moving into the midfield, especially with Broughton and Murphy now at GC. Danny Stanley is pretty much the definition of a 'utility.' the guy can play anywhere, fwd, back mids whatever. While he may not get as many cheap marks floating around the backline, im sure he will rack up more touches and tackles playing midfield. Surely having a full pre season and moving into the midfield cant make your scores go backwards :P so yeah he seems like a pretty solid pick to me, almost a lock, which is kinda weird as i had automatically written him off as way too expensive up until now. Will most likey start with round 1 at this point in time.
