Fixtures and Results
It has just been announced that the Manilla Folders will be rivals with the Mongolian Lambs in the new Asian 15s competition. Both clubs are looking forward to a strong rivalry in which the Folders will dominate.
Two Danes Taken With First Two Picks
The Asian 15s draft has kicked off and the Folders have gone out strong with their recruiting pick Dane Swan with pick 6 and Dayne Zorko as pick 27. This adds some high scoring power to the side in the midfield, with Swan averaging 170 (highest in the league this year) and Zorko over 130 and he will only get better with age. Head coach of the Folders, BB67th, said today that the Folders are looking to be very competitive in the first season of the Asian 15s and definitely have a premiership in their sights.
Ive seen C4 do this a bit on his thread so I thought I might try it on mine for a bit of fun. The Folders will be holding a press conference tonight at 7.15 AEST. If anyone has any questions they would like to ask about where the club plans on going, then post them here or pm me and the I will answer the best ones.
do the lambs intimidate you with all there top players :P
The Folders have called off their press conference that was earlier planned for tonight after only pickers bothered to ask any questions ::)
wheres the mannilla folders logo?

Yes we all know that the Folders have an amazing core group of players and will smash the Lambs whenever they play.
you do actually have a prietty good team so far, think were prietty even you maybe just infront except most of yours are dinosaurs compared to mine haha :P
First 20 picks summary for the Folders
Now that the first 20 rounds of the Asian XVs initial draft have been completed, Folders coach BB67th will take a look at how the club has recruited so far.
Pick 6 (1): Dane Swan - Still not sure how he lasted to pick 6 seeing as he averaged 175 ppg this year and has 2 or 3 good years left at AFL level. He will make a great captain for the Folders over the next few years.
Pick 27 (2): Dayne Zorko - In his first year of AFL level he has been amazing as a mature age recruit. He was a bit of risk to go with early and I hope he keeps his DPP. He will only improve as will his side next year, so he is a solid top 30 pick.
Pick 38 (3): Brendon Goddard - A fantasy god and will always be a def/mid player. What more is there to say, he still has a good 4 years left at AFL level and is a great option in every team.
Pick 59 (4): Travis Cloke - He has struggled with form this year, but he should only improve next year once he moves to Carlton. He has shown his true form this finals series, and with marks and goals worth heaps in this game, he will be a gun and a steal in the fourth round.
Pick 70 (5): Jordan Lewis - He has been a great scorer for years in a high fantasy scoring team. Should keep his DPP next year.
Pick 91 (6): Brock McLean - A bit of a risky pick, but I really wanted to have him. He has been great in the second half of this season and if he continues to score like that, he will be a worthy pick.
Pick 102 (7): Nick Dal Santo - A gun of the game, came second in last year's Brownlow and has the ability to absolutely smash the contest. Also one of my favourite players and an absolute legend.
Pick 123 (8): Daniel Nicholson - Very young, but very good with a 90 average in his first year. He will stay a defender next year and is the first real youth to be picked for the Folders with a lot of potential.
Pick 134 (9): Hayden Ballantyne - You either love him or hate him and he always kicks a lot of goals and picks up the possessions in the forward line. Caps off a monster forward line with Zorko, Cloke, Lewis and Balla.
Pick 155 (10): Will Minson - We really needed a ruck and he was the last one left that we really rated as a good fantasy option.
Pick 176 (11): Andrew Mackie - Experienced defender who knows how to take a mark and kick, which is worth gold in this game.
Pick 187 (12): Ryan Bastinac - Very young and has a hell of a lot of potential in one of the best young midfields at the Kangaroos.
Pick 198 (13): Sam Reid (Syd) - Going to be a gun in a year or two and will be able to kick a bag every week. Great option as a fifth forward.
Pick 219 (14): Craig Bird - Has a tagging role so doesn't score as much as some other players, but still knows how to find the ball and will make a solid bench player.
Pick 230 (15): Sam Gilbert - Another experienced defender that can have huge games and should be able to provide a solid scoring option each week.
Pick 251 (16): Bernie Vince - A steal this late in the draft, the former best and fairest averages over a hundred and has years left to play the game. Great backup player.
Pick 262 (17): Matthew Lobbe - Needed another ruck option in case and he is at a club that is light on in the ruck stocks so he should get a bit of game time.
Pick 283 (18): Ed Curnow - Emerging player in a good midfield and a solid scorer. Should explode next season.
Pick 294 (19): Tom Bell - Seems to have maybe secured his place in the backline now and should become a prolific scorer.
Pick 315 (20): Simon Black - An old option definitely who only has one or two years left, but he can score well and will help some of the young emerging midfields around him at the club.
So that is how the Folders have drafted so far and they are looking for a top 4 placing next year with an older squad.
In big news the Folders have made their first trade for the Asian XVs with National draft pick 11 going to the UAE Tigers in return for champion midfielder Nathan Foley. Coach BB67th said while it was disappointing to see a first round pick which could get some young talent go, he was pumped to have such an experienced player such as Foley to join the midfield group. "He is another high scorer that can stick around for the club for a few years and can hopefully join us in our tilt for a premiership."
The Folders are very pleased to announce that NigeyS will be joining them for the upcoming season as an assistant coach. Head coach BB67th said it was 'another important step into getting to next years premiership. Nigey's inputs and opinions will go a long way to making this a better club.'
Great to be on board with the Folders, I'm genuinely looking forward to the job and the season ahead.
The Folders also welcome nrich102 who will be joining the club also as an assistant coach. Everyone make him feel welcome to the AXV!

What is it that you actually fold, you Folders? ???
The Manila Folders are proud to announce that they will be holding their first press conference in two days time, on Thursday at 8pm AEDST. They will be announcing team logos, sponsors, the leadership group and will be answering any questions other coaches or members of the AXV community might have. Make sure you get them in before the conference starts either by pm to me or by posting them in the Folders team thread.
Also on Friday we will be conducting some interviews with some of the Folders players, so tell us who you want us to talk to and what you want us to ask them!
The press room is full of reporters, eagerly awaiting the beginning of the Manila Folders' press conference. The side door opens, and in walk head coach BB67th, assistants NigeyS and nrich102, and players Dane Swan, Brendon Goddard and Dayne Zorko onto the stage, where they take their seats.
BB67th: Thanks everyone for coming to tonight's first press conference. We are keen to get underway for a good 2013 season and are ready to push towards premiership glory in the inaugural AXV season.
On stage here with me, are of course, my able assistants in NigeyS and nrich102 who have been doing a great job in helping the Folders through the drafting and trade periods.
Also here are Dane Swan, Brendon Goddard and Dayne Zorko. We are proud to now announce Dane as the Folders' team captain for 2013, and Brendon and Dayne will be his vice captains. We feel we have a strong leadership group here, with a good mixture of youth and experience to take us forward.
We believe that the Folders have put together a very strong team list so far, with a lot of high scoring players with a very good starting 15 players. We have targeted experienced and proven scoring players through our drafting and we have a few trades going on at the moment which you will probably be hearing about soon.
Now I would like to announce our team logos and team jumpers that will be used for the 2013 season. Here we have the team logo.
Assistant Coach nrich102 stands up showing off the new Folders logo that is shown on his team shirt.

BB67th: And now we would also like to show the Home, Away and Clash jumpers that are being worn today by Swanny, BJ and Zorks respectively.

BB67th: Thanks to nrich and Nigey for designing the team jumpers and logos. Now I can also announce the team sponsors that will be supporting us over the next year.
Our Gold Sponsor is the Manila Broadcasting Company

Our Silver Sponsors are Philippines Airlines and Manila Ocean Park

And finally our Bronze Sponsor is Coles
(http://www.bridgerd.com.au/images/shops/large/Large_C/Coles%20Logo.jpg)
We are looking forward to strong relationships with all of our sponsors over the next year. Now I'd like to let the others say a few words.
Dane Swan: Thanks BB67th, it's a real honour to be picked to be the Folders first captain. I am looking forward to a good year of football ahead and I really think that we can go deep into finals and very close to premiership glory this year. It can't be too hard with my scoring ability, can it? ;)
Brendon Goddard: Obviously moving into the new XV's format will be a challenge for the players, but one we are looking forward to and I am happy to be at a club with such facilities and such a great group of players as the Folders.
Dayne Zorko: Great to be here. Can't wait to get out there and play some good footy.
NigeyS: I'd just quickly like to state what a pleasure it has been working for the Folders since my appointment a while ago. It's been quite the role and we at the Folders are genuinely excited about the season ahead, our chances are quite good. Obviously, I'm really just echoing the words of Swanny, BJ and Zorks.
nrich102 is unable to respond as he is deep in conversation on his mobile phone. Apparently Brock McLean is talking to him about an incident that happened at a Folders team meeting this morning. He quickly relays the news to BB67th.
BB67th: Thanks guys, now I would be happy to open up to any questions people have
Reporter #1: What is it that you actually fold, you Folders?
BB67th: Well I've just been told that Will Minson around the club has been folding a few pieces of paper and making them into paper planes recently, before flying them into Brock McLean's head. But we are called the Folders after the great invention of the Manila Folder, as you can see from our logo.
Reporter #2: Why are you holding a press conference?
BB67th: We've used this press conference to make a few new announcements for the Folders' team and to get a bit more interest around the AXV community before the pre season comp starts in a few weeks. Any other final thoughts before we wrap up guys?
NigeyS: Now, I'd just like to thank BB67th for allowing me on board and I really want to stress that my job at Folders so far has been more than enjoyable, 2013 is really shaping up to be a big year for Manila. Thank you all for coming!
nrich 102: Can't wait for the season to start. I think we're in for a ripper season.
BB67th: Well that is it from us then, thanks to everyone for coming and we are all looking forward to a great 2013. Go Folders!
All members on stage, get up and leave, to a standing ovation from the crowd. A few coaches from rival teams can be seen in the background shedding a tear as they realise they have no chance against the might of the Folders this year.
nrich is a man of few words but great design skills. :P

Folders are pumped to have their first win on the board. Also a few changes to the team thread set up with the weekly wrap up starting. It was a close win, but a good one against the Ales this week.
Next week we have the easy beat Llamas, so we are certain to be 2 from 2 to start the season!
And the Folders have defeated their rivals - The Lambs!

After quite a successful season, Manila is happy to announce that this Thursday will be our first awards night. We will be having:
- Best clubman award - Given to an underrated player around the club who does not get the recognition he deserves
- Best young player award - Given to the best and most important player in the team under the age of 22
- Most consistent player - Given to the player who is most consistent with their scoring throughout the season
- Best & Fairest Count - 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1 votes are given out in each game to the most influential players from Manila. The winner will win the Club Champion award which will later be named
So come along this Thursday and join myself and nrich102 for the count.
Make sure everyone leaves their predictions for the top 10 and who they think will win the other awards in a post below. The person who gets the most correct guesses wins a secret prize! ;)
Three questions before I do my predictions.
1. Do players have to be named in your side that week to receive votes? or are the votes done on their pure score (regardless if they were in your emergencies or reserves)?
2. Does your voting system give other positions besides midfielders a better chance of polling ie. is there a weighting system used? or are the votes done on anyone's score, no matter what position?
3. Is the Best Young Player Award 22 years old and under? or do they have to be under 22?
1. Yes they must be playing in the first XV to receive votes. Votes are based off raw scores as well, so no captains, vice captains or OOP concessions
2. There is a weighting system used that gives extra points to defenders and ruckmen and a little extra to forwards
3. 22 years old and under at seasons end
Alright cheers. In that case, here are my predictions.

1. Dane Swan

Alright then, let's get this underway.
Welcome to the Manila Folders Best & Fairest count for 2013. Tonight we will be going through the count, and giving out the rest of our club awards, as well as presenting the team of the year.
The players are all set at their tables, starting to enjoy a nice meal. It seems that Hayden Ballantyne is doing all he can already to be a serial pest, stealing big man Will Minson's drink, with big Wilbur not quick enough to catch the small man. Craig Bird also seems to think it is game day and has the urge to put a hard tag on someone. Swanny might be in for a rough night.....
Head coach BB67th gets up to address the crowd. "Good evening everyone, thanks for coming along tonight. I'm sure that we are in for a good night of awards and celebration, so let's get things started with the votes from the first 7 rounds of the season.

So an interesting start to the count there. Swan was prominent, polling 23 votes and taking poll position after the first 7 rounds. Goddard is close behind him. Cloke had 3 BOG performances, but was unable to back those up, with only 2 more votes in the other 4 games. Chris Mayne and Brock McLean both accumulated nicely to start.

Not much change in the top 5, with McLean and Mayne swapping spaces, but Brendon Goddard is closing in on Dane Swan, now only 1 vote behind him. Cloke also has some big games to come in the last third of the season, so it will be interesting to see how close he can get. Zorko and Minson also had a few big games to get themselves up the leader board, as did Andrew Mackie.
Would love to hear everyone's predictions as to who wins from here! ;)
Thanks Again BB.
I am very happy to announce the inaugural winner of the Best Clubman award, which is given to the player, who's efforts often go unrecognised. The inaugural winner of the Best Clubman award is a man who plays the Saxophone, speaks fluent German and has a surprisingly high IQ. The winner is none other than...
Will Minson
(http://resources3.news.com.au/images/2012/08/20/1226454/499391-will-minson.jpg)
Big Will has been our main ruck man all year, and without his efforts in the middle, we could never have made it to the Grand Final. Will has been very underrated this season, although he has maintained an average of 110ppg!
Now For the Most Consistent Award. As the name says, this award is given to the most consistent player on the team. While there aren't quite as many interesting things to say about this guy than Will Minson, he did not drop below 100 once this season. With an Average of 140, the winner is...
Brendon Goddard
(http://l.yimg.com/ea/img/-/130916/goddard_193dc79-193dc7q.jpg?x=400&q=80&n=1&sig=Vq3TjtYT9HJEOsPTnXn_Gg--)
Brendon has been our Vice Captain all year, and has not disappointed. He has played an important role off half back and sometimes through the midfield.
Please join me in congratulating Brendon and Will!

So congratulations to this year's winner Dane Swan. He raced home in the final 7 games of the season, polling 25 of a possible 35 votes, and polling in 6 of the 7 matches. Brendon Goddard did just enough to finish runner up ahead of Travis Cloke, who was 2 votes behind him. Chris Mayne and Brock McLean both kept up their fine form to round out the top 5. Bastinac, Dal Santo, Minson, Mackie and Zorko made up the top 10.
Here comes Swanny now to accept his award.

'It's an honour to win the inaugural Club Champion award here at the Folders. Also great to be named in the All-Asian team as Vice Captain. It's definitely been a big year for me, and I do like the new AXV competition. It's a shame that we lost the Grand Final, but we will be back next year, ready to take out the Champions League, World Cup and Premiership!"

Well done boys!
Good on Minno, great acceptance speech for the best clubman award, disguising it as an All-Australian acceptance speech ;)
Thanks for those words as well Swanny. I'd just like to thank everyone who participated in guessing our award winners tonight and those who read along here, results for the predictions will be up soon! Have a good one everyone!
Great work guys and well done to Swanny on a great season.
Didn't do too badly with the Top 10 predictions. Surprised about Minson finishing so low, but then again he didn't really have many monster games, just very consistent.

Yeah Minson was often the 6th or 7th best player most weeks. He was super consistent, but didn't have the big games.
nice work, worthy winner the pig
bastinac came up as predicted :) good player for AXVS that one...

Lobbe only played two games for the Folders? Surely that was an oversight? Yes you had Minson doing well in the Ruck spot but surely Lobbe would have outscored some of the utilities? He didn't score under 70 in DT in the back half of the season.

Yeah, he definitely should have got some more games in the second half of the year. He will be making the starting XV next season.
Going to update the opening page with the fixture for the new season, so I will post the last one here as an archive.

The Folders had a bit of a slow start to the season with quite a few key players under performing including Brendon Goddard and Dayne Zorko. Nathan Foley was the only member missing from the best XV, with Rohan Bewick taking his place in the side. With the Ales having the home ground advantage for the match, it turned out to be a close one, but big games from Mackie, Dal Santo, Cloke and captain Swan in the last few games of the round ensured the Folders started off their season and club history, with a win.
Coach BB67th said that he thought the side was quite disappointing overall, and it is shown by them only being 8th after winning their first round match. But, he added, it was great to get the first win on the board. Still, the club managed to finish with the 4th best score for the whole competition, so there are encouraging signs ahead for Manila.

An interesting game for the Folders here. Never seen as a chance to lose their game against the lowly Llamas, it seemed that the players took the game for granted and just assumed they would win. Quiet games from first-gamer Craig Bird, Bernie Vince and Brock McLean were disappointing. However, Ryan Bastianc was superb in the midfield, showing the young Llamas how to win the contested ball. The defence was solid, but the club will be looking for them to lift their output over the next couple of weeks.
Daniel Merrett was again solid in the reserves and may be pushing for a senior selection spot next week. Craig Bird will most likely make way for the returning Hayden Ballantyne. Sam Dwyer has also been carving it up in the reserves and probably would be finding himself with a senior call up this week if he were not stranded on the rookie list. As the Folders senior list is full, and with no long term injuries there is no room for Dwyer at the current stage. A spokesman for the club said the coaching staff felt for the situation Dwyer was in, but everyone was looking for to the travel to KL for the match against the Crocodiles.

This match was an interesting affair that went right down to the wire. In the end, Travis Cloke was the difference between the two teams and the match winner with 178 points and 5 goals. Big scores from Brock McLean and skipper Dane Swan also made sure that the game was won. There weren't too many big scores, but consistent scores across the board, with everyone chipping in. Dropping Bernie Vince for the returning Hayden Ballantyne proved to be a very good move as Vince was named the sub in his match. The win puts Manila into second place on the premiership ladder, the only club undefeated along with the Bears. The club feels it is in a good position, with most of the best XV currently fit, with midfield stars Simon Black and Nathan Foley still a while away with injury.

The top of the table clash was always going to be an interesting affair, and it certainly didn't disappoint. After several coaches thought that the Folders were lucky to be where they were on the ladder, they came out and scored and emphatic victory over the Bangladesh Bears. Travis Cloke scored a whopping 224 points to be currently tied with Justin Westhoff for the coveted Jade Ring award. Skipper Dane Swan also silenced the critics with a strong game. Able support was had from most of the players, but they were still a few disappointing performances and several players could find themselves on the block this week.
