Title: Three premiums out, three rookies to cover, two trades.
Post by: LaHug on August 10, 2012, 02:33:00 PM
I have Chapman out in the forwards, Stanton and Swan out in the mids.
I have Devon Smith as cover in the forwards, Gibson and Clay Smith in the mids.
I have 2 trades and $152,100 in the bank.

Trade options:
1. Don't trade and use Gibson, C.Smith and D.Smith
2. Stanton to Boyd (play Gibson and D.Smith)
3. Stanton to Beams (play Gibson and either Smith)
4. Chapman to Beams (play Gibson and C. Smith)
5. Stanton and Chapman to Boyd and someone under $489,900 (e.g Pav - play Gibson)

Not sure if there are any other options but please let me know what you think. Pretty stuck here!

I like option 2 the best, get rid of stanton & keep one emergency trade

Beams has been such a beast this year. Give Stants the heave ho for him I say.

I reckon option 2 unless you want Beams to create a DPP link. Boyd is just a gun and wont get rested.

Hmm... Beams or Boyd and cash seems to be the biggest decision right now.
Also, which Smith to play this week?!

This is a really tough call mate. Trading in Boyd will leave you with $74,700 and Beams with only $17,400.

What do you think Swan being out will do to his score and do you think Beams will be rested? 17k gives you no flexibility if another player falls, however 74,700 gives you a lot.

Have a look at your team, if you think there is a high chance of one of your key players getting rested/injured and look at your options if this happens. For example if Ablett is rested (not going to happen but this is an example) then you dont need that flexibility because youll have enough cash to get whoever you want, but if you have someone who is priced low for example, youll need the flexibility to trade to a good player.

It depends on your cover and how much of a risk you want to take. Having said all that, im changing my mind and saying go Beams. He smashed all the teams he is playing during the finals and Boyd vs. Brisbane is a worry for the DT GF...

I'd put Dev on the field too for what it's worth.

Some key players in good teams are scattered throughout my team so holding cash is likely to be important.
Suckling, Shaw, Mitchell, Selwood, Cox, Sidebottom, Dangerfield, ROK, Goodes.
I feel at least one of them will be rested.....

Unless someone can convince me otherwise, Stanton to Boyd looks the most likely choice. The only worry is that my own captains article has Boyd at only 95 this week but has Beams at 110. Of course, I'm often wrong...

well as  good as Beams looks.... Matty Boyd knows he's only got a few games left this year, I think Boyd is the right trade for the massive spud, stants!

l'd go stants to beams, play gibson and devon......and hold your other trade, then if you do end up having to use it on Chappy next week or the week after well so be it, but if you dont then its a handy bonus.

As good as Beams has been, I reckon Boyd has to take it in this one. $70k gives you much more flexibility and he is the 'proven' gun. Can't beat Boydy when he goes on a massive run. Beams has also been tagged recently, and even though he's done ok, he's had some under par too. Boyd is just a machine.

Can't go wrong with either though, I would just prefer Boyd

I wouldn't be surprised if Beams averages somewhere around 5 points per game more than Boyd for the rest of the season but I can't warrant having no flexibility for those 20 points over 4 rounds.

Go Boyd mate, and worse case scenario is that you can use the last trade for the grandfinal  ;) (That would be best case scenario wouldnt it! haha  :o Get on board the Boydos train.

Stanton to Beams looks to be the best option out of those for me. Gibson and Smith should provide decent coverage :P

Still can't decide...
If I go Stanton to Beams, I have D. Smith, C. Smith and Gibson to cover forwards and mids together which should be plenty. The problem is that, if a back gets injured/dropped or I get an LTI anywhere, I'll have no cash to trade.
If I go Stanton to Boyd, I still have no DPP (but I don't really need it) but can feel safe knowing that if any premiums go down, I can still trade them comfortably.

Hardest decision of my year, I reckon

What about Stanton -> Fyfe or Danger? (If you don't already have them).

Should leave you with some cash to use your last trade in the back line if needed be, plus gives you that DPP link your after.

I just feel the points is more important than the DPP. I have Danger but Fyfe could be interesting.
Think I'll just keep Boyd.

It's funny, I've been trying to find a way to get Boyd all season and the moment I do, I'm not so sure :P

Interested in what option you went mate. Hope it works either way.

Went Boyd because, even if Beams gets an extra 10 points a game, that's 40 points for $60k which I may need if a premium goes down.

Wished I captained him  :(

Was thinking about it, but then let it go after seeing him up against Sydney without Swan there to take some attention and Beams going so well that he'd been tagged a couple of times recently.
Ended up chucking the vice on him and Captaining Ablet  :-\
