I got the news about a week ago that I can't play sport for 3 months (get to do fun rehab stuff instead... yay...) so does anyone have any advice on fun things I could do instead?
Especially for when exams finish and I'll be on holidays.
play video games?
Yeah i've been out for almost 6 weeks now with a knee :(
Just sulk on the computer lol.
I've had to have a couple weeks off from footy with a broken arm but getting back into running now which is good, just not marking and full tackling for at least another 2 weeks :(
Certainly is frustrating, I just kicked the footy by myself for a while until I was able to have a kick with friends again so slowly working my way back into it.
That's where an arm is alright though, you can still do a lot of things and still be moving...I've never had a serious knee injury so I can't talk from experience, but I can imagine how frustrating that would be. Can't really suggest anything off the top of my head, sorry :-\

been out for 5 years now with my knee :P
you're screwed.

Bask in your football team's consistent winning?
Oh wait...
Seriously though, do you watch a lot of tv? Thats what I would do.
Haha, thanks guys! I'm playing Pokemon and watching TV right now so that seems like a good move ;)
I noticed I didn't give much detail. It's a knee so running/kicking is a no-no :(
Just have a big wank and wait for all of this to blow over.
Not good LaHug :(
When I tore my PCL, I was out for the whole soccer season. Thank goodness not the cricket season! I just watched TV, went on the computer. Not much to do really.

Whole season must have sucked! I should be back for the end of my bball season (so I'm hoping we make finals) and, fortunately, I'll only miss aths preseason (although that's still annoying and will hinder my chances of nationals).

Suits (season 2 about to start)
Parks and Recreation
I downloaded (don't ask where I got it from or the coppers will be at my door) Iron Sky last week and it is flowering brilliant, best movie of the year. The action scenes are great, it's very funny, the actors are very good in their respective roles, and the protagonist is very hot.
Just found this again. I'm within a couple of weeks of returning to sport. Getting so excited!!! ;D

Nah but good luck on the game mate!
Played about 15-17ish minutes and got through entirely pain free! Biggest problems were fitness and my inability to shoot the ball. I was a bit conscious of not driving into the key because I was afraid of landing on someone and hurting myself so it was particularly annoying that the 3 ball wasn't falling (made 1 from way too many attempts :-\)
Still, good to be back!

Wear a proper knee brace when you play for the first few weeks. The ones with the titanium rods. Basketball is close to the worst sport to play just after hurting your knee, should have gone for a run :P

A good basketball shot is all about legs, sadly. My teammates all kept saying that my release was good and that I was taking the right shots, they just weren't falling. I probably wasn't elevating enough on my shot...

ahhh jumpers knee. That's what Patton had :P Yeah so you can't really wear a knee brace for that type of injury, but a band around the knee just below the lower part of the knee cap might help a little bit.

lol, that's pretty much how I did mine, except mine was a ligament, not a tendon, hope your recovery is faster than mine (my ankle locking up on top of the ligament damage associate with the break means that even though I broke it on the 6th of april, it's still not fully healed (the bone was fine in like 2-3 weeks though), and probably wont be for another 2 months or so).
basically, drink a flowerload of milk, and hope it heals up in like 2 weeks, then get rid of the cast/ moonboot asap... even though the doctor reckons mine healed in a little over 2, I had my boot on for 4 and lost so much flowering mobility lol.

I drink so, so much milk...
Also, I'm not going to need a boot or cast (yay) because of the type of fracture it is. Apparently I just need to wear a bandage and keep weight off it for now.

I'm trying to outdo my 2007. That year I strained my PCL, got patellar femoral syndrome, broke my thumb and broke my arm. Since then I've been basically injury free (minor things here and there but only one or two week injuries). This year has been a horror so far. Even though it's only two injuries, the first was a 3 monther and this one may end up being a while as well. Keeping fingers crossed!

how the flower did you break your foot???
Landed on someone's foot playing basketball and rolled my foot/ankle over his. Tendon pulled the bone a bit too hard... :(
thats just bad luck mate. Dont give up on basketball but take atleast a year off and get yourself 100%.
Trust me its for the best.
I thought that i was injury prone (touch wood) but i think you have me just this year.
I only had a dodgy hammy, bells palsy and wisdom teeth out this year
I'm trying to outdo my 2007.

That must suck! Hope you're better soon. All I can say is thank God for Endone or I wouldn't have slept a wink last night...

If you're implying that I'm going to be constipated, please confirm this. I am officially worried... :/
Just a little catch up for anyone interested. My foot healed in about 6 weeks so, with the assistance of an ankle brace, I've been fine to play basketball. I made it back just in time for finals (and we won our Grand Final by 25 points - win!)
Five weeks ago, I broke my pinky. Fortunately, this is a tiny injury compared to the other two so, after a week on the sidelines, I was straight back in with a splint. It's on my shooting hand which is a bit annoying but I've adjusted successfully.
And that's a year of showerty injuries!
Just thought I'd share my own little injury yarn..
Busted my ankle for the third time in about 18 months all doing different things!
1) Playing sumo-wrestlers at recess in 2011
2) Playing tennis in 2012
3) Playing footy today
Icing, Compressing and Elevating hard atm :P
What a great bunch of athletes we are.
I went to training for the first time last night after doing ankle ligament damage the week before easter.
Stil cant push of on my left foot.

Not good hey tabsy, I'll post a pic up later too if I can get around to it. Wasn't pretty.
Is there anything you can do to stop rolling your ankle so badly or is it just one of those unlucky things? Happens to me wayyy too much.
Can't play sport? No worries. More time to FIFA. ;)

do you have it taped up when you play sport?
if you dont I woudl seriously start thinking about learning how to do it.
stretch before and after sports and something that is very important but people never think about it is learn how to take a hit/ fall down. When people get tackled and they know they are going down they still try and fight it. I dont If i know im gone I make sure I go to the ground the safetest way possible.
sneaky benefit is i get free kicks too, taking a dive definately can stop injuries though.
Played sport my whole life never got an injury and only a few bruises and swolen ankles.

Yeah I don't tape them but probably should for soccer.
These ankles are really the worst I've had bar stress fractures from cricket aaaaages ago :P

definately start doing it, there is a reason why alf players tape themselves up, it really can add alot of support. Unfortunately i think you have to do it everytime you play for at least a while possibly whenever you play.
you probably already have this sorted but make sure your shoes arent too lose around the ankle, they should be tight to stop slipping around the heal. Also make sure when you go for a tackle to plant your foot into the ground for support. I told my sister that she told me i was stupid, played her first real game and broker her ankle.

Yeah cheers man, I'll definitely look into it now :)
This ankle injury was a bit freakish running backwards and stepped into a little hole and rolled it that way. My ankles are pretty loose and are prone to rolling because of how badly I've done them in the past. So yeah, will look to invest in some tape and tighten the old laces. Cheers for that mate!
Here are the exercises that my physio gave to me to do, each for a minute
1-Balance on my left foot
2-Balance on your left foot with your right foot out front (parallel to the ground, or as high as you can go)
3-Balance on your left foot with your right foot behind you (parallel to the ground, or as high as you can go)
4-Balance on your left foot with your right foot (parallel to the ground, or as high as you can go) on your right
5-Balance on your left foot with your right foot as far across you body on the left side as you can go
6-Repeat 1-5 on your right foot
7-Foot stretches using a theraband
www.orthonc.com/forms/hep/Ankle_Theraband.pdf
8-Calf raises
9-Calf stretches
10-The hardest one, balance on each foot for a minute with your eyes closed (Its actually harder than you think)
Also if you do these stretches in door ways you you wont fall as far
Thanks tabsy. I'll give them a try :)
You know, show me someone who just sits around on FF or watching youtube videos all day and I'll show someone who doesn't have these injury problems :P

have you been to a podiatrist?
when I broke my ankle, turned out it was largely because me feet biomechanics were just flowered. Also why I did my knee and have back pain :(

Wow! I didn't notice that I hadn't updated you guys about the eye injury I got this year.
Basically, I was poked in the eye and bled from the eye itself. The was also a lot of internal bleeding in the eye.
I was seeing double for about a month or so and then it began to die down. I still see double when I look right up (and particularly right up and to the left) so I should probably go back to the eye doctor. Was meant to be better by now...

Haha, nice. That picture was right after I broke my foot. It was plenty colourful by the end of the day (bruising takes a while!).
Is that broken bone or just ligament?
just ligament, but still causing me issues
My second one (the tennis one) was that bad tabs. Looks festy though hahaha.
This one was just a tickle compared to the last!
