2:15pm EST announcement
It's just bullshower really. NSW already has 3 teams in the league and they decide to give them another one instead of rewarding Tasmania with a team ::)
Yes, but Sydney has only 1, where as Melbourne has 2. A population of 4 million outrates a population of 600,000 odd.
Yeah state-by-state the a-league team arrangement in very bias. NSW already has 3 teams to choose from, while Melbourne has 2. We all know Queensland can't handle new teams, so I think the new team should have been given to Tassie, country Victoria or South Australia. By the looks of things over here in WA, we don't need another team as our whole public is 100% glory.
In other a-league related stuff, GO THE GLORY this weekend :D
I don't think we need a side in Adelaide. No-one follows Soccer here.

youd be amazed at how much discussion goes on about sa soccer, its an sa forum btw :)
But i do agree in the fact that Adelaide arent quite ready for a SA side yet gives us 5 years :P
I'm just glad there will be 10 teams!
And i will find it interesting how the recruiting goes for them..
Hopefully they are run good like Heart, unlike those two pathetic Queensland teams.
Will the A-League ever go back to QLD with a new team?
The problem with the GC they alienated the public so they had no fan base but they had Clive Palmer's money
North Queensland Fury had the community support but not enough cash
Are you sure the Fury had support Cic? They never had anyone turning up to their games. That doesn't sound like support to me...

All my soccer loving mates here in Adelaide are more focussed on Premier League than that A-League
That's only because of the players playing there JB. The A League is a long term investment...
The AFL has people following because we have the best players, same with Rugby, etc.

Great. There goes Newcastle Jets.
According the facebook of Goal.com.au
"
Hunter Sports Group hand back Newcastle Jets A-League licence, will not field team in 2012-3 season.
"
i didn't expect that to happen

i think we need to look at a community model for all clubs
I reckon the A-league should try hard to get Newcastle back.
Then spend a year or two ensuring the future of every club, money and management wise. Help them out.
Then go around Australia, and start planning the future of a lot of other possible clubs.
i.e. Start planning a Hobart/Darwin/Cairns/Christchurch team, even if they dont come for another 6 years, if at all. almost as backups.
we need to see if the community is willing to support a team
Sydney barely supports one team im sure that Western Sydney is going to struggle without community support
Melbourne can support 2 teams because Victory has a large fan base of which few defected to the Heart
Perth Adelaide and Brisbane can support their own team
_____________________________________________________________
Gold Coast struggles to gain any momentum from the community regardless of sport
(GCU struggle, Titans struggle, Reds work because they are based in Brisbane)
The only team that has had sustained success in GC is the Blaze, in a competition that has next to no coverage in mainstream news media (One HD shows NBL games from time to time)
I think another New Zealand team should be top priority. The Pheonix have had great results in both success and fan support, so I reckon a team in either Auckland or Christchurch should be also quite successful if they can draw enough fans, which can easily be done if the FFA give every club some more dough to bring in more star players.
