Title: Masten vs Caddy
Post by: Affliction on March 19, 2012, 01:21:47 AM
With $280k left considering either Masten or Caddy.

Which player would you select out of the two or is there another option under $280k in the midfield?

I'd prefer Johnny McCarthy then both of them, although I reckon all three will average very similar and all provide great value. Not going Caddy as I have GAJ, and not going Masten because he plays for the eagles.

i would go caddy if i was going a mid priced mid, but i have done some calcs and i dont think its a good idea picking up one of them. Its very unlikely they will come anywhere close to a premium mids score and you will probably make much more money picking a rookie. Unless you think you can get a redden or rockliff i would avoid and spend the cahs in the other lines.

I originally went with a rookie however this leaves my midfield very weak, 3 premiums (swan, boyd, ablett) and the rest rookies

I have the option of getting $450k (downgrade lake to rookie) but not enough to get a premium as you suggested and find it tough to find a midfielder around that price.

After the other repsonses as well may look at the rookie option instead of either of these two guys.

its hard to see without your team whats the best option, i didnt know you only had 3 premium rucks, i wouldnt feel safe having 5 midfield rookies, i have 4 and i even considered getting in caddy because i wanted less rookiies in my team. If you go the rookie option does that mean you will upgrade lake?

Its a shame barlow hasnt played yet he could have been a great pick, still could be and a very unique option would take alot of guts to do that.  Im almost talking myself into getting barlow as my 5th mid.

Agreed Barlow would have been a good pick, i think it's too risky picking a player coming back from injury without seeing them play a pre season game. His leg must be still giving him pain which means i think he will be rested every few rounds.

The rookie option would allow me to upgrade lake to birchall. Below is my current team, rookies will change after gws team finalised on friday. The team has its guns, mid priced and rookies, would prefer to the guns & rookies strategy but finding harder to do this season so a few mid priced players in the team.

D: Goddard, Shaw, Deledio, Broughton, Lake, Hargrave, Ellis
(Darley, Bugg)

M: Swan, Boyd, Ablett, Masten, Clifton, Miles
(C.Smith, Magner)

R: Cox, McIntosh
(Giles, Redden)

F: Franklin, Goodes, Fyfe, Martin, Dangerfield, D,Smith, Smedts
(Hampton, Kerridge)

$17,000 left

based on the question posed I would go Caddy, Masten will play through HFF a fair bit in full strength WCE side. Caddy will be straight into the guts.

i like the lake to birchall however i would move ellis into the midfield as he should be rock solid and put in morris down back. Or devon smith in the middle and hall or couch up front. Im not a fan of DPP but mid rookies arent great this year and should help with 5 mid spots to fill.

Yeah, I think the NAB gf was probably a good example of what Masten will score with all the best Eagles mids playing.

masten only had 55% game time in the nab gf, i think he should get more than that throughout the season
