Title: Best midfielder under 620k?
Post by: Joel20 on February 04, 2012, 10:20:25 PM
Not sure who to pick, for me it is probably out of Priddis, Thomas, A Swallow or maybe Cotchin. But leave your thoughts!

So you think Barlow will be a keeper? No point spending over 250k on a potential trade down the track. If you think he'll average 100+ and be a finals player for your sc team then go for it!

he could get 105+ its not to much of a stretch,  but i will say he wont be in the top 10 players.
if u use the money (that u save from taking him) wisely he could be a good way to go, and u can have 7 premiums in the mids, its not that crazy an idea, he could just end up being your 7th mid .to cover u for finals against  general soreness

I think Swallow and Priddis are both genuine high scoring players, but they will probably only average 10-15 more than Barlow so may as well save the cash.

he is a freak - still more of a DTer over a SCer IMO

i'll vote A.Swallow can't go wrong - i heard impromtu say he picked alot of captains/vice captains to start with or ppl within a leadership group as they obviously will play last year sometime. captaincy could be the extra motivation needed to reach elite, i reckon he has the tools.

Save yourself 100K and grab a bargain at 519K. No more tagging for Daniel Cross. He'll jump back to 2010 levels.

He averaged 95 while playing as a tagger half the time. Averaged 114 in 2011 and I expect him to be let loose and play his attacking style of play so he should be pushing 110 again.

I'll try not to butcher this quote.

Let's say that he returns to his 114 averaging form. McCartney has indicated that he wants us to return to our attacking style, and Cross is very capable of reaping the rewards. Averaged 110 when Eade got the flick. He's durable. He'd be in the top 10 mids with an average like that, and is less of a risk than Barlow. Is Barlow a bad choice?

theres nothing absurd about picking him,, its just personal choice...
if he scores 110 avg. thats great ,but that is him hitting his ceiling,  barlow would have a higher ceiling and is what 60-70k cheaper,,, in saying that i wouldnt take barlow either
u are a bulldogs fan, are u sure your not thinking with your heart and not your head?

I'd say Mitchell or Thompson but Cross could be a bargain at his price

Not denying Crossy is one of my favourites, but you can see that I applied logic to it. Cross isn't coming off a major injury. He'll benefit from a role change. Averaged 114 not too long ago, and it's definitely not beyond him to get back to that.

Could take Priddis for 100K more. He's only had one 110+ season and is no certainty to do it again.
Swallow is a safe choice. Boring.
Selwood seems the most logical, but I don't want any Cats due to their resting of every player.
Then all the way down to Cross there are players who have the same chance of reaching 110 as him, or players who aren't anywhere near as reliable as him to play 22 games.

interesting arguement you make some good points about cross but not for me he is too risky and is not young if he stays at his average you will have to sideways trade him or waste 2 trades putting him to super premium

to be fair cross only got 110+ once , before that he was getting between 100 and 105.

True. But I am saying he is just as likely as any of the others bar Selwood/Swallow to do it, while being cheaper than many. I'm not saying he's a certainty, but he is an option worth thinking about.
