Title: What About David Myers?
Post by: Windigo on January 28, 2012, 04:46:07 PM
Been perusing through the Prospectus trying to find backman who could potentially smash it this year. What do you think?

The Prospectus seems to fancy him as a potential candidate.

I'm not buying into it. But 19 disposals last year & a number 6 draft pick and entering a 5th season and should benefit from a really hard pre-season. Has a shiner to show for it.  :P So he has been steadily improving.

Rated as "Elite" for contested possession in his position category. Get this 88% of his possessions across the year were completed under pressure. Solid 69 dream team point average. But he has had a few injuries. Namely the stress fracture in his foot.

I was gunna go with Hanley. But depending on Myer's NAB scores  I could change my mind. Not that confident. But I'll see how he goes in the NAB.  ;)

Did get A 100 last year... 8)....... ::)

I understand your reasoning here, but Myers seems to turn it over too often / "panic kick it" too often from what I have seen of him.

That may not be very DT relevant, but I'm not assured that he will continue to be best 22 for Essendon - with their young list developing quickly, and some very good rookie upgrade options on their list this year?

"Panic Kick?"

Maybe because 88% of his possession are under pressure. His kick efficiency rating is 64.5

That was better than Zaka last year....Also better than Watson.  :P

I'll look at his NAB scores. If he slays it,  I can boast about it....If he stinks it up....You'll never hear about him again.  ::)

nice find, any others??

I;ll be watching NAB Cup too, 13 games is always a concern but all missed for the one injury right? so not a big deal, good price too tho i am keen on heppell so makes it hard to start with both.

Could get more time in the middle too... One to keep an eye on.

Maybe... A lot of injuries from memory...? Hanley would be a lot more than Myers wouldn't he?

Haha. Classic.  ;)

Pretty sure this is his first real pre-season.  ???

P.S: In his small smattering games he has notched a 31 disposal game. Slaying a goal and 5 tackles. Only 3 games over 25 possessions.

Should play in the midfield. He was recruited as one 2007.

In 2010 he played 12 VFL games for Windy Hill. He was in the best 6/12 times. Only played the one game for the VFL affiliate in 2011.....BOG.

He says that it's self confidence that is letting him down. All hangs on NAB. But looking good IMO.

definately in the bombers best 22, definately be playing off half back and through the middle to a lesser extent but as an outside midfielder when he does. Taken at #6 as windy said his numbers in the nab cup havent been outstanding but they have been decent, one more to go and I'm seriously considering him, Freako gets most of his calls RIGHT.

Only got 51 in the full game last week but think he had very little of it in the first half so scored most of that on the ball in the 2nd half, again at least it was the "best" side the bombers could field and he was part of it.

His young, In Essendon's best 22 and should play off half back but his price is abit awkward especially if you already have Hargrave in your team and Hargrave is cheaper too. Not sure if I'd want 2 mid pricers in my defense.  :-\

I considered hiim right up to the point where I saw his price tag. At $340k he's a definite no.

He only played 58% of game time, so if he had played a normal game he would've scored 94

seriously tempting going to play a creative role whether from defence or in the middle he will score well this season and once again freako might be on the money with him high on the list of breakout candidates

Going to keep a keen eye on him during this week's NAB Cup.

If he looks like getting a midfield role he could be a good smokey.

Tall (he's 191cm) and strong midfielders are usually good ball-winners (think Pav or Goodes).

But if he's going to play a key defensive role or pick up the third tall then no thanks.

bombers need midfielders to help out watson and stanton, they need them desperately...... as desperately as the crows do to help thomo out
