Title: Jack Ziebell
Post by: zeus123456 on December 15, 2011, 05:31:52 PM
I know his missing the first two rounds, but does anyone think he could have a great year, cause I was thinking having him my 5th mid and have one of my rookies take his place, or is it better to just have a rookie instead of him?

i think everyone knows he will improve this year, with the roos improving and all reports saying his fitness is improving which is a postive as previously he was playing less game time than the other elite roo mids. The issue is will he improve enough, you would want him to lift 20 points to be worth a spot in your mids, i think he is capable of that and im considering him so monitor over the preseason. IM thinking of him for the 5th mid spot.

Wouldn't even consider starting him but could be a decent pickup further into the season.

i would never consider him an upgrade target but would start him . You normally upgrade to players you think will be top 6 mids, JZ will not be a top 6 mid. You pick JZ as he is alot cheaper than a premium and could go up 50-100k and be that bridge to a guy like pendles. If your worried about his suspension and picking him up you shouldn't as  you should have rookies playing still.

Are you saying pick him up after round 4 seeing how he plays and with 2 price rises from a rookie?

I honestly hadn't even considered this guy until tonight, checked out his scores, went over all the data, crunched numbers, and finally came to this..
If Jack Ziebell stays consistent with his points per TOG percentage & gets roughly 80% TOG this year -which he might be able to muster with a decent preseason- then he should average roughly 95 PPG without increasing his Point Per Time On Ground average at all.
For his last 6 matches his PPTOG percentage was +1.5 which would have been over 120 ppg if he'd been on the park for 80% of the match.  With A.Swallow heading up as the main man in the middle followed by Wells, Boomer, Bastinac & a few other choice mids for the roos, Ziebell could even avoid the tag..
I'm not suggesting he's going to start pumping out +115 scores week in week out, but he could well push a +100 PPG average if his fitness levels get up to AFL standard.

this is the reason why im going to pick him not his scores. Reports from the roos make it sound like his fitness has increased alot, remeber he hasnt had a full preseason untill this year.

Love the young fella but every year I have had him he's snapped his leg in two. I'll pass for the wellbeing of Jay-Z I think.

he absolutely ripped it up late last season, but..... i agree if your going to pick him you have to start with him, not a viable upgrade target . UNLESS he is averaging 110+ then he is , but hten he'll cost you too..

I don't think too many people will have the nads to start with him but you wouldnt call anyone silly for taking the punt he did look great last season and holzman is spot on

I'd like to have him in my team but i'm not sure if my mid is too stacked with him in there as 5th mid, currently have Pendles, Gablett, Rocky, Barlow, Jay-Z, rookie, (rookie, rookie)

if it wasn't for the 2 week ban, he'd be locked in my team - but unless he rips the nab up i won't be getting him now =[

Yeah me too. If not for his 2 games missing i would have him in my side.
I remember watching a few of his late games last year and saying he is going to be my 2012 unique.
If something terrible should happen in the first few rounds and i lose someone from my midfield or Barlow looks like a failed pick, then i will not hesitate to get Zeiball into my side before he has too much of a price increase.
Title: Risky having Ziebell on bench for first two round?
Post by: matt1985 on February 02, 2012, 08:08:18 PM
I really rate the guy, and think he will break out this year. I've got him sitting on the bench at the moment, due to his 2 week suspension. Is it wise having him? Or should I downgrade him to a rook, and use the cash for upgrades else were?

Current Mids: Ablett, Thompson, Jelwood, Barlow, Miles, D, Shiel (Ziebell, T.Mitchell)

Thanks for your opinions everyone.

I would personally downgrade, but I know a lot of people are considering him.

Looking over my team I can make some slight improvements. Will kick myself if he fires tho lol. Good chance of him earning the C for North tomorrow. Could be the spark he needs to get him fired up for a big year!

im considering starting with about 150k, and then after round 4 depending on how hes going (ie if his averaging over 100) then i will trade out one of my rookies (hopefully they will have gone up at least 100k by this stage), and then ill get him in. sound like a good plan?

i'd leave him out coz of the suspension.

maybe go with another mid pricer, then trade in after round 4 if the one you have is misfiring

Sounds like reasonable ideas! I have traded him down for now and upgraded in other areas. Will have to keep an eye on him and trade in if he is firing.

Like a number of other players, picking him has its risks. I think taking the punt and going with him frees up the cash for use elsewhere. depending on what rookies you have ( u have gws rookies) they should play the first few weeks covering whilst his out. then at least i dont need to burn trades early like i did last season
