DRAFT IS CLOSED
Each coach will get 4 picks, except for pothead and Boomz, who will get 5, and PowerBug, who will get 6 (as they passed in the National Draft).
Options for the Preseason/Rookie:
- Select just as a normal draft
- Opt to automatically select the highest drafted player available. You can choose this option anytime (i.e. select your first 2 manually, and than opt for automatic). PLEASE let us know if you plan to go automatic, it will make the draft go quicker. The automatic picks will select the Preseason selected players first, followed by the rookie draft. The National Draft leftovers will be the last too be auto-picked as everyone's already had a chance to pick those....
Rules
- You have 24 hours to pick, 2 hours if you have been online during the 24 hours. If you don't pick, you will automatically receive the highest pick player available and can not change.

FIRST PICK!!!!
F*** YEAH!!!!
Very very happy with pick 3 myself. ;D
Also ossie, unfortunately, from my calculations, there will only be a maximum of 110 picks taken in both drafts. 11 in the PSD, and 99 in the RD.
The 99 picks come from 108 picks available (6 x 18), but as Collingwood, Carlton, WCE, North, Richmond and Adelaide didn't clear out their rookie list, they each won't be taking all 6 picks.
As that means there would be 16 players leftovers (if indeed all 110 are taken), have you given thought of making them available after the regular draft has finished, as I imagine there would probably be some players leftover there too?
There will be 95 picks, but 8 of them have already been taken. There are 5 leftovers from our national draft so that comes to 88 picks.

That including or excluding the preseason draft?
Maybe able to fit in 5 rounds... Or would people prefer an even number of rounds to be fair? With the remainder being shipped off into the original draft?

95 picks in the rookie draft.
11 in the pre-season draft
5 leftovers from the national draft
=113 picks.
I think the 8 rookies already picked should be in the original draft, so that makes it 106 picks in this one. I'll forfeit/pass on my round 6 pick in this draft, and if one other person does too, then that would make it 6 picks for everyone else.
No passing in this one really... I think the GWS will pass all of there picks in preseason draft... hmm....

Yeah Sheedy said they are going to take 1 or 2 players on the PSD.
I can't see Syd and GC taking all of their 9 picks in the rookie draft either.

I'll be watching the draft ossie, so I'll write up the list for you.
Champion
The actual draft is underway!
Few interesting things already...
GWS PASS all pre-season picks and Port Adelaide pick up John McCarthy. Richmond won't be happy with that, they had him all wrapped up.
Alot of passes too in the rookie draft... :-\ Might not even get 5 picks each...
Few recycled players, but no Fev or Leon Davis.
So in total, there were 87 players taken in both the pre-season and rookie draft.
3 short of getting 5 picks each. :'(
well that was draft was crap. Shame on all the clubs!
Neon, Fev both without a home. Ben Ross misses out as well as Zyrus Manson.
No Myles Bolger or Matt Little. No Valenti.
No Julian Dobosz. No Stribling.
Its all bullshower ::)

I wanted Nelson and Valenti, but forget that now. >:(
Yeah Valenti probably not but Manson going before 9 would be surprising seeing as how long term he is...

Will consider the options...........
You've got plenty of time. Ossie already said the draft (in an earlier post) wont start until 9am tomorrow morning.
Still pick today though purple...
I mean you know who is where and all that. :)
We'll only have 4 rounds.... The remainder will get shoved in the first draft, cool?
Cheers c4!

You're welcome ossie.
I reckon the remainders should be kept separate for the time being and placed into a 'fourth mini draft'. I'm sure that there will also be leftovers from the regular draft, so why not pool them both together at the end of the regular draft and have a mini draft for something different?
^ also a good idea!
Sure, why not :) We'll keep it fluid
Yep I like that idea C4.
Leftovers from Normal Draft and this draft enter mini-draft.

ok, after a couple of hours deciding, (little sad), i have made my decision who to pick. So if everyone is ready, i will get things started. Its fine if we wanna wait until tomorrow, doesn't bother me, will be the same player!
May as well say it now. Nothing to wait for! :)

My shortlist is intact. >:D

well I certainly didn't want Frost... doubt he will get games at GWS although I could be wrong. And doesn't look very fantasy relevant. So yea I doubt the 3 guys I want will slip to pick 11 anyway ;)
Quote from: Purple 77 on December 13, 2011, 03:53:52 PM

I bloody hope not, i thought GWS would be in need of a tall backman............. now im doubting that selection......... :(
Can be changed at any time up until bb picks
Im taking Addam Maric.
fixed (both things!)
Why did you change your pick purple?
Just cas I said he is a crap selection doesn't mean he is :P
Quote from: Purple 77 on December 13, 2011, 05:07:40 PM
no it wasn't just that, i already had doubts over him that i was trying to ignore. Unlike with Sam frost, i feel good about my selection with couch, so in a way, thank you for making me realize he wasn't for me :)
Hoping for the next Barlow purple?

I'll have my picks done automatically for this one thanks Oss :)
I've been trying to dodge this for as long as possible...as this was not an easy decision.
After careful consideration, the Pacific Islanders with their first pick in the 2012 Preseason/Rookie Draft choose...
...Lee Spurr. ;D

pothead's up...
Aaron Hall...ok :)
was undecided between two players but i will take andrew boseley
MOOOOOOOOOOOONEY
May aswell take Broc McCauley... Surely Max Bailey can't go a season without getting injured?
I'll chuck an autopicker on for Sid if that's ok, he can't complain, he isn't here to take the picks so that's what he gets :P
Don't know who that means he gets but I know it's not who I want... I'll take Tom Campbell :-X Want someone else but I'm just hoping he lasts to my 2nd pick :-\
That means Sid would get John McCarthy.

Michael Mascooulis
I'll get that guy. Not sure who he is, not sure where he plays, but i like the sound of him. :)
You serious PB? Gah he was going to be my pick. Should be a great player in my opinion. Was injured this year which is why he didn't get picked up.
Guess I will take my second option in Brett O'Hanlon.

I done some research on this kid coz melb drafted him, was tipped to be a top 30 national draft pick but somehow slipped, a key forward who will take a lot of time to develop a body, but very promising.
I know a bit about a few of them.
I know one guy who got on a rookie list. As in, I have had breakfast at his kitchen table.
I actually know his sister ;)

Good pick, was my next :)
I knew he wasn't gonna last long though
im lucky C4 or Rb didnt take them, if they had later picks there was no chance he would make it to me.
That Dell'Olio fellow.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll take Brendan Lee. Was best and fairest at his club in the wafl last year averaging 28.8 disposals per game. Should score alright if given the chance...

In my opinion yes. I needed a forward and he will score well. Plus he is a Bomber!
Wanted Lee as well. :(
Fletcher Roberts plz
Mark Baguley.
Dashing Half-Back that is mature age and should make an impact early.
Really wanted Dell'olio or Lee though :P
Sorry maca :P
Dammit he's a forward??????

Who was his brother?
I'll take Michael Coad...
I'll give you some info on the guy I am going to pick. Prepare to be impressed.
This guy was signed to a NSW scholarship program at the age of 15.
2011 Draft camp 3km time trials
1 Brad Hill 9.52
2 Will Hoskin-Elliott 9.53
3 Tom Sheridan 9.57
4 Nick O'Brien 10.01
5 Sam Kerridge 10.02
The player I am going to pick just recently beat all his AFL listed team mates in the preseason time trial, running it at a time of 9:21.
For 400m he has run 49.2secs - Cathy Freeman ran 49.1 to win gold at the 2000 Olympics.
He is 18 years old, 185cms tall and weighs 82kgs so it's not like he is a twig.
In 2011 he split his time between playing for his state under 18's and for the reserves of an AFL club where he was named in the best multiple times.
This man is...

Yeah, but he is a ready-made mature-age recruit designed to protect the younger bodies. He'll play a lot of games for GC next year and considering his stats for Subiaco last year...he'll do well. ;)

jack crisp
RB gets Justin Clarke
c4's up
Sorry for taking so long...again, no clue on who to take.
Decided on one that was leftover from the National Draft though...
...Cameron Ellis-Yeolmen.
Shane Biggs
Danny Butcher
Damn was wanting Magner :(
Hey os for my last 2 picks just chuck me down as auto pick :)
c4 got 1 more hour before he is skipped...

Shame
none of my assistant coaches are on to help me. Got no idea atm.
The Pacific Islanders with their 3rd round pick choose...
...Sam Gibson.
rb autopicks TOM BELL
Gibson Turner will be my next pick
Making a mockery of Holz's team and taking my 3rd Irishman. John Heslin.
I'll take Cambell Heath, and mark me down for Auto from now on thanks Ossie...
So sid takes Lachlan Smith. Boomz up
I'll pick Gibson Turner. Have no idea if he can play just know him from benfti on bomberblitz :-X

Which means his 2 hours is up... so HP is up. If HP picks before Boomz, Boomz will get an autopick....

Bummer. :-X
Hmm changed my mind. My next pick I will choose myself instead of being an auto pick, but at the moment my last pick will be auto.
Sorry for the confusion ;)
In that case I'll take Hal Hunter.
Os, make all my picks from now Auto's thanks :)

I did that last time you asked me cm....
Sorry guys it's taken so long. Been out for the day as was with friends deciding Uni courses/preferences.
I may as well take Adam Pattison. Going to Hawks who have recently traded away Renouf so Bailey will be lead ruck. I can hope Pattison will be next in line (Roughy part time as he'll play forward).
If I may bid with my last pick, I'll go with Callum Papertalk please (if possible). Nothing special, but the name :P.
Malcolm Lynch please! Had a good year in the VFL. So hope he can get games at the Kangaroos.
Yup!
And Alex Brown for me :)
No we are waiting on PB for both drafts...
Sorry guys for holding things up, didn't realise my pick was so soon. :(
Will Young please. :)
CF your turn :)
I'll take a risk and pick Amos Frank. Only ever played 1 SANFL reserves game so a big unknown and could become the new Relton Roberts. Although not quite the same as Relton since he is extremely quick. Recently breaking the SANFL record for the 20 metre sprint!
There is always a small forward position in flux at the Hawks so I like that pick.
Thanks hawk.
Would be a great story if he becomes a great player at the hawks :)
Is Orvil or whatever his name is available still?
Dylan Orval from Adelaide?
Yes he is
Yep. Wasn't sure if the front page had been updated.
Also just chuck me on auto-draft cos I'm just picking names.
So you take Orval with this pick though yeah?
Well Holz says he wants Cam Eardley. So that means FS is up now
I'll take Nick Heyne
PB's up.
The highest taken port or crows player please, if there's none left, auto pick.
Quote from: PowerBug on December 20, 2011, 02:30:43 PM

Tim McIntyre from Adelaide it is then.
CM gets Steven Wrigley and Ben Darrou then,
And FS is up again.
Then CM takes Steven Wrigley from Brisbane and Ben Darrou from Richmond.
FS up again. In to the final round now :)
FS is online. Hopefully he picks soon...
Auto pick my second one, Managan or whatever his name is for my first
Brad Mangan from North Melbourne.
That was your last pick FS, so there is nothing left to auto pick ;)
Going by PB's specifications of taking a Port or Crow he gets James Craig.
That means Holz is up :)
Gavin Urquhart
ML takes Haiden Schlothe from Freo.
Pot up now
Sam Menegola
Looks like I get Cameron Shenton from St. Kilda...
PB then gets Ben Dowdell from Adelaide.
So ossie is up next
Cameron Sutcliffe for me
And Matthew Lodge for Maca
I'll go with Marley Williams please.
Callum Papertalk please
Corey Gault
i will take jordan staley
RB gets Frazer Dale from Carlton...
...and I'll take Henry Cunningham from Sydney.
Meaning BB is up with the third final pick of the draft!! :D
Clancee pearce

Yup! 13 players remain, 2 picks left....
The remaining 11 players... along with (from current projections) 2 players that are left over from the first draft, will miss out :(
BUT, if a player retires or is sacked by there AFL club during the year. The World XV club can choose from these players to pick a replacment <-- or do people reject that idea?

Well I guess there's two options if a player retires or is sacked during the season.
1. The coaches chooses from the 'leftover' pool of players to replace them as you've suggested ossie.
2. Or, wait until the end of the year, and that team gets an additional draft pick (whether its in the National or Rookie)
Which now just leaves Boomz....
Who will he take with the final rookie draft pick for 2012? :o
I'm gonna leave you hanging for a while :P Just coz I feel like it :P ... and coz I have no idea who to pick :-X
Wanted Long but don't see him making it sadly so I'll take Redpath...
and closed.
Thanks everyone

This guy is a top bloke, and certainly has talent. He has worked hard to come back from 2 knee reconstructions before he even turned 21. If he stays fit he could be a gun.
Which means the draft is now OVER!
Poor Lincoln McCarthy from Geelong misses out twice!
Collingwood's Trent Stubbs, Daniel Famer and Michael Hartley, Geelong's Mark Blicava, Fremantle's Jordan King, St. Kilda's Darren Michington, Western Bulldogs's Mark Austin, Essendon's Anthony Long, Gold Coast's Josh Hall and finally Sydney's Jack Lynch are the unfortunate players who have missed out this year too. :'(
Nice to see that you guys used your heads and went with my comment from before. You could've easily waited as i never specified that i wanted that for all remaining picks. ;)
But you did the right thing, as i would've done that anyway :)

Lucky.... :-X
To me it sounded like that is what you wanted since you said if there were none left go auto pick
Caolan booted Collingwood's first 5 goals in the VFL on the weekend. He has played less than 15 AFL games at ANY level. Will be a superstar.
LOVE my Magner selection at number 36 ;)
